Chapter 6: A Wolf in Danger
Sitting on the floor in his cell, with his hands in front of him handcuffed, Zeke complains to himself angrily, "I can just hear him now. Warning me about the damn forest with his whiny, nerdy, and irritating nagging voice."
He mocks, sounding like Zander's high pitched voice, "What did I tell you not to do?"
"Not to fly over the forest," he answers.
"What did you do?"
"I flew over the forest."
"And what happened?"
"I got shot down."
"You sir are grounded for-e-ver."
He slumps his shoulders letting out a sigh, "He's going to be saying all of this, while standing on his stupid stool, just to ring my neck." He rubs the side of his head muttering silently in disappointment, "Fuck…another damn plane."
He looks up at the bars. Getting up to his feet, he walks up to them while rubbing the back of his head still feeling the pain. Looking past the bars and up at the corner, he sees a camera. Eyes trained directly on it, he rests one arm on the bars and sticks the other past them, giving it the finger. "That should get their attention." Hearing footsteps on the other side of the door, someone fights with the lock trying to unlock it. The door opens.
One of the guards steps into the room and closes the door as it locks by itself. He turns and just stands there with his arm behind his back looking at Zeke. He quickly strikes at Zeke, hitting the bars almost getting his arms with a metal rod.
Zeke hops back to the center of his cell.
"Tell us about the kid," the guard orders.
In anger, Zeke says back without thinking, "I'm not telling you shit. He's long gone already so good luck finding him."
Eyes widened in disbelief, the guard slowly pulls out his radio as he informs, "Can anyone hear me? The kid was with the pilot. I repeat, the kid was with him at the crash site."
They both look over at the window hearing doors slam as soldiers enter vehicles leaving the base.
The guard turns back to Zeke, "You're a fucking idiot. You just admitted that he was with you."
Zeke couldn't believe it either. "I, uhhh… That's right and all of you went through the trouble of getting me here, wasting time for him to get away," he says back.
"We know this forest from the inside out. We'll find him." The guard smirks getting closer to the bars. "And once we do find him, I can just put a bullet in your head."
Zeke looks at his equipment not seeing a gun on him and laughs getting closer to the bars. "You don't even have a gun so already I'm calling your bluff. Someone else is going to do it for you 'cause you're too chicken shit to do it yourself," he mocks stopping just close enough to be swung at.
The guard snarls at him and takes a swing through the bars.
Zeke dodges out of the way grabbing onto the guards wrist and pulls, making him smack into the bars.
The guard pulls back, pulling Zeke toward himself, giving Zeke a chance to thrust forward with a kick, kicking him in the gut making the guard hunch forward.
With a firm grip around his wrist still, Zeke pulls again, slamming the guard again into the bars. He then releases and puts his handcuffs past the bars and around the back of the guard's neck. Zeke then puts a foot onto one of the bars and pulls back with all his might.
The guard struggles and gasps for air until the sound of bone cracking is heard around his neck. The guard struggles and goes limp and motionless.
After a couple of seconds of pulling, Zeke stops and lays his body on the floor and quickly goes through his pockets looking for the keys. While searching he finds the keys, but then looks up and remembers about the camera. He hears footsteps running to the door as again someone began fighting with the lock to open it.
"Shit." Zeke quickly fights with his own lock hoping to find the right key and to open it before they do. Key, after key… after key… after key… after 'click!'… He manages to open the cell door at the same time as one of the guards runs into the room.
Zeke runs, tackling the first guard and slamming him into the door, pushing the other guard back out and making the door lock again.
Zeke then pulls the guard away from the door and swings him towards the cell bars, causing him to trip over the dead body.
The guard looks at the body and then back all the way up, seeing a tall angry wolf looming right over him.
Muffled arguing is heard from the other side of the door. "I don't have the key to the door. He's locked in there with you," the other BOA soldier says from the other side pounding on it.
Zeke looks at the door being pounded on and then turns right back to the guard. "Do you really think I'm locked in here with you? Well…" His voice deepens as he narrows his eyes at him with clenched fist. Every word of his was a deep growl, "I see it the other way around."
In fear the guard whips out a knife, but instead going towards Zeke he backs up into the cell instead, closing the door.
"Good call. NOW GIVE ME THE KEY TO THESE CUFFS!" he demands.
The guard yells back, "WHEN THEY GET IN HERE, YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD!"
Zeke thinks to himself looking at the door being pounded on. 'He's right. Once they break that door down then I'm a dead wolf. I have to get the fuck out of here quick.' He looks at the window and nods. Checking the dead body he grabs the metal rod. Rising back up to his feet, he looks at the window… and throws the metal rod at it.
The rod hits the window, bounces off and comes back hitting him in the face.
"Son of a… Shit!" Zeke grabs onto his face.
"HAH! Idiot, that window's double layered. You're not breaking that," the soldier mocks.
Zeke snarls back, then picks the metal rod right back up and runs to the window. Grasping the rod with both hands, he starts pounding the window over and over. 'I'll huff, I'll puff AND I'LL…' finally putting a crack in it.
"Oh shit." The guard was surprised by his strength. "GET IN HERE QUICK! HE'S ABOUT-"
The window explodes into pieces of glass shards as Zeke quickly climbs out being careful with the sharp glass.
"HE'S GOING THROUGH THE WINDOW!" the guard warns.
It was the last words Zeke heard, as he ran straight to the forest.
Running into the dense forest, Zeke had to stop remembering what the guard said. 'Shit, they know this forest better than I do. They'll fucking find me before I can make any progress. I need to know which way is west.'
Stopping at a small open clearing, he looks up at the sky not blocked by trees. 'Oh shit… trees are fucking huge.' He had to calm down and gather his thoughts. He remembered what Zander once told him. 'Sun rises from the east and sets on the west.' "Its way past noon so… sun is… west is that way."
He was about to run, but he knew he had to at least get them off his trail. He looks down and sees piles of leaves on the ground. He drops to the ground and begins to cover himself as much as he can. Once done he just lays there and hopes that no one kicks him or walks on him. Hearing footsteps, he lies still hearing them stop and talk.
Unable to see through the leaves, but he could hear a couple of soldiers running close to him and stopping. "Are you sure you saw him come this way?"
"Yeah, I saw him heading this way."
He hears more soldiers arrive, but not as close to where he is. One of them asks, "Anything?"
"No, nothing but I know he came this way."
Even more soldiers arrive. Looking around as they get closer to where he's hiding, a couple of Jeeps drive up to them as everyone starts arguing with each other. "We need to find him quickly before… Shit, here he comes."
Another Jeep comes driving in at high speed, as everyone gets out of the way, but unfortunately…
It almost runs Zeke over as it stops on his left foot, parking on it.
Zeke wanted so badly to yell out in pain, but with his right arm is next to his mouth, he shoves it into his mouth and bites down.
Only able to hear the commotion, the driver gets out of the Jeep revealing that it's the Leader of the BOA. He demands, "WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED? HOW'D HE ESCAPE?"
"One of the guards was interrogating him and got too close. He managed to grab him and kill him," one of the soldiers answered.
Leader's anger calms down as he gets back onto the Jeep as it applies pressure onto Zeke's foot. He then says, "We need to find him NOW before we lose him."
"But why Sir? Why don't we just kill him and get it over with?" a soldier asks.
Zeke, barely able to see through the leaves, hears Leader ask with restraint, "Why?" A gun shot echoes out, as the soldier's body lands right in front of him.
The soldier stares right back to Zeke with a bullet hole right between his eyes. His expression slowly turns to nothing, knowing that he was able to see Zeke hiding within the leaves.
Zeke never felt so afraid in his entire life. 'Shit… oh shit. He fucking killed his own men.'
Leader demands, infuriated, "I'LL TELL YOU WHY! HE'S ONE OF SONIC'S FRIENDS! THAT'S WHY! Any more questions? No? GO FUCKING FIND HIM!" he demands.
Everyone scatters in different directions to where he might have gone.
Zeke lays there dealing with the pain thinking to himself. 'I'm one of Sonic's friends? Is that really why you fucking shot me down? We were both going to be taken away no matter what. …Dammit… get off my foot.'
Through the leaves, he hears Leader asks in anger, "What? What do you mean that you're going back to base?" It remained silent, but someone was there answering back. "…Okay. That's a good idea. If you see anything, let me know."
He hears someone's heavy footsteps walk away.
"Stop!" the Leader orders. "Take 'that' with you."
As Zeke peers out of the leaves, he sees the soldier's lifeless body get easily picked up with one hand and taken away.
Leader then turns on the Jeep as it vibrates on his ankle.
Zeke braces himself and gets ready for the Jeep to move. The tire spins on his ankle. Pain unlike nothing he ever felt rushes through his entire body. The Jeep moves forward, setting him free.
He stays in the leaves making sure everyone was gone. Then he drags himself to the closest tree, not looking at his foot.
Reaching the tree and placing his hand on it, he rolls onto his back and takes a look. The entirety of his white sock on his left foot was coated in red blood. Slowly rising up, he takes off his shoe expecting it to look bad but his foot was alright. It was his ankle that suffered the worst fate. He was about to remove his sock but he quickly pulls away, shaking his head. He was dreading how it was going to look like.
Resting his back against the tree, he looks towards the west, deeper into the forest where his exit lies, but then he looks back to his ankle. He shakes his head. 'Nope, that idea has been officially shattered… literally.'
He turns his attention back to the BOA's base. 'I have to go back and hide somewhere in there. I know Sonic will come sooner or later.' He pulls out the set of keys and goes through them all to unlock his handcuffs then tosses them away.
He uses the tree to help him stand up. Barely putting pressure on his foot was enough to even hear his bones on his ankle grind on each other. "Crap!" 'I can't even stand on it, let alone even try to walk.' He breaks a branch to lean on it for support. "Ok… ok. All the BOA soldiers are out looking for me and the kid. I can sneak back into the base and into one of the buildings and hope to find the infirmary."
He turned back to the base, but was then greatly confused. He wasn't even that far from the base and he had a hard time seeing the buildings. The reflective surfaces blended them into the forest perfectly. Even the tallest one out of all of them looked like it was made out of trees. He points at one of them. "That one. I have to get to that one."
He sneaks back to the base and hopes for the best. He staggers his way towards the building seeing that it's three stories tall. Making sure not to enter the front entrance, he limps around the back of the building to find an entrance. With a door in sight, he checks it, but it's locked. "Damn." He looks around and sees a window that is slightly open. "One way or another... I'm coming in." He opens it a little more and squirms his way through.
Within the building, he scans the dark bleak room. 'I can't see shit.' Taking one step forward he bumps into something. "Hmm?" Feeling all around it, it felt like a container. 'Did I really find the storage room?' Opening the container hoping to find anything for his foot, he instead finds nothing. 'Damn.' As it is a bit dark, he looks at the light switch thinking about turning it on. He takes one step forward to it, but the door opens.
Zeke quickly hides behind containers.
The guard steps in with a shotgun in hand. He turns on the lights and scans the room with the gun. Walking in, he checks behind containers and storage boxes as Zeke quietly sneaks around them. He walks back to the middle of the room, giving up. "Fucking sensors are screwing up," he mutters in annoyance. Just as he heads to the exit, he stops and turns his head to the wide open window. "SHIT-!"
Zeke grabs him from behind making sure to keep his arm around his neck squeezing tight. Dropping the shotgun, they struggle back and forth as they slam into crates and walls until the struggle lessens. Bit by bit the guard falls asleep. With his body motionless, holding on still, he staggers back pulling the body away and hides him in the corner. Zeke then goes back and picks up the shotgun. Making his way to the exit, he turns off the lights, leaving the room.
Looking out into the hallway he stops and thinks. 'Alright… motion sensors and cameras. I really have to be careful. Where is the infirmary? Need to find a map or directions.' Slowly making his way down the corner of the hallway, it leads to yet another hallway, but looking up he notices a camera turning from left to right.
'Okay… alright. Just like that one sneaking video game.' Waiting for it to turn away, he proceeds to quickly stagger his way under it. The camera slowly turns back away from where he came. Zeke looks back down the hallway again… seeing his blood on the floor he left behind. "Shit." He quickly looks down at his foot seeing it worse than before. His sock was completely drenched in blood. 'I fucked it up even worse in the storage room.'
Looking back up at the camera, it turns back the other way… but then stops midway and goes back… and stops again. 'Shit, they see it.' He staggers down the hallway and around the corner.
A door is heard opening as a soldier exits out with gun in hand making his way to the blood stain.
'He's going to call for help… I have to stop him.' Zeke quietly staggers back to the soldier in hopes he can reach him in time. Reaching him and pointing the shotgun, the soldier stops and turns back around seeing Zeke.
The soldier just stands there looking, not saying anything.
Zeke also just stands there not saying anything, thinking about what to do, hesitating whether to shoot him or not.
The soldier, sensing hesitation, he quickly aims, but Zeke closes his eyes and pulls the trigger, firing at the soldier and sending him flying a couple of feet back.
After hearing the shotgun blast go off, he slowly opens his eyes, seeing the BOA soldier's body on the floor in the center of the hallway. "Oh shit." Looking further down sees his handgun on the floor. He picks it up and shoves it into his pocket.
As he's about to limp back down the hallway, he stops and looks at the room he came out of. Looking inside it was the security room.
Stepping into the security room, he looks to the right, seeing a map of the building. He staggers to it. "Infirmary… where is it? It's… here. Third floor? The third floor? Who the fuck puts an infirmary on the third floor?" In agonizing pain, he knew he had no choice but to go up to it. He takes a step back. "Dammit," he complains but then notices the security monitors and limps to them. "Eyes all over the place."
One of the cameras gets his attention when he sees movement on it. "Woah! Who are you?" he questions out loud, seeing a Huge Rottweiler soldier walking around on-camera. "It's going to take more than a shotgun to take your ass down."
He looks at the monitors for a moment longer, then right as he was going to leave, he notices that one of them is turned off. The bottom of the screen has no name on it. 'Why are you off?' He turns it on. His heart skips a beat and he couldn't believe what he was looking at. "No… can't be…" He steps away in disbelief, numb to the pain on his foot. He looks back at the monitor. "He's here… Infinite… is here," he mumbles, seeing Infinite restrained to a machine. "Does Sonic even know?" He heads to the exit.
Exiting out of the security room, he heads to the flight of stairs and painfully climbs up them heading to the third floor. 'No wonder they're pissed and angry all the time.' "Gah!" 'Third floor… what the fuck?' He gets to the third floor, and heads straight to the infirmary.
Entering, he sees a mid-size room with a couple tables and beds. He goes through the cabinets looking around for alcohol, swabs, medical straps and pain killers. He puts his foot on a table removing his sock and gets to work.
Once done, he lies down to relax, hoping the painkillers will kick in quickly… but he then hears heavy footsteps at the door. He quickly rises up and sees the Huge Rottweiler soldier that was on the camera standing at the doorway. 'Shit.' Zeke looks up and notices the motion detector above the door. "Dammit."
The soldier's radio goes off. "Levi, have you seen anything yet?"
Zeke simply sits there, and realizes that the shotgun and handgun was at the other side of the room.
Levi goes for his radio.
Before Levi can answer, Zeke taunts, "Go ahead! Be a bitch and ask for help, since you can't take me on by yourself!"
Levi holds the radio in his hands and clips it back to his side and smirks. He takes a step into the room and closes the door.
Zeke takes a deep breath and gets ready for the worst fight in his entire life.
He stands up and balances on one foot. Once balanced… he looks back at Levi and notices just how massive he was. Zeke was considered tall, and he never felt intimidated by anyone before. As he looked up at Levi he knew that he was in trouble. Those arms were packed with muscle on top of muscle. Levi was a grappler. Getting grabbed by him was going to be the worst possible thing that could happen. The problem was… 'I… can't… move. Not on one foot. I'm fucked.'
Levi walks towards him, but as he's about to be in arm's reach, Zeke lunges at him, throwing a quick right. He dodges backwards then knees him back in the gut. He then delivers a hard left punch to his face turning Zeke around, almost losing his balance. Levi then grabs him from behind in a bear hug and starts to squeeze, lifting him up.
"GAAHHH!" Zeke shouts out. He puts his foot on cabinets and pushes off of it causing Levi to stumble backwards colliding with the nearest wall. Feeling his head close to his, he swings his head back colliding with Levi's face over and over.
Levi shakes his head from the impact and then swings Zeke around, tossing him towards tables, making him bounce off of them, landing on the floor.
Staggering up to his single good foot with the aid of the table, he sees Levi walking towards him growling. Looking at his forehead, he notices he was injured from a previous fight. Just as Levi was about to get close to throw a punch, Zeke puts both hands on the table and pushes it into his gut making him lean forward. With his head low enough, he lets go of the table then grabs his head and bashes it into the table.
Levi then grabs the table and flips it up and over before Zeke could get another hit on him.
After Zeke ducks under the table that flies over him, he springs upward, punching Levi in the face and causing him to stagger back, giving him a chance to punch again and again.
Levi puts an arm up blocking one of the punches and throws an uppercut.
Zeke staggers backwards trying to avoid it, but loses his balance in the process.
Levi then lunges forward tackling Zeke, slamming him to a wall. While holding him in place, he steps on his foot.
"GRRAAAHhhhh! YOU FUCKING BITCH!" Zeke yells out and bites down on Levi's arm making him growl back in pain.
Infuriated, Levi slams Zeke to the wall again with devastating force that sends everything off the wall. The impact was vicious enough to cave in Zeke's chest, releasing Levi from his bite. Levi then delivers a vicious left hook to the side of Zeke's face, followed up by a right body blow, and then a straight hard right punch to the face. He then grabs Zeke by the collar and by the midsection and then throws him clear across the room making him smash into cabinets.
Zeke slams back onto the floor as glass sprinkles all around him.
Having a hard time trying to stand, he gets back up and just stands there. He sees Levi slowly makes his way to him. 'Everything… everything hurts. Can hardly stand anymore that-'
His hand bumps into something… it's the alcohol container that he was using. He grabs it and throws it at Levi splashing him in the eyes.
Aggravated, Levi tries to wipe it out of his eyes.
Zeke, with all his might, pulls his arm back and comes in with a punch to the face that sends Levi's head whipping back with a devastating crunch.
Unable to see, Levi's retaliates and throws a blinding right punch back to Zeke…
But Zeke not only ducks the punch that flies over his head - he also manages to hoist Levi over onto his back and with all the weight onto just his right leg, he picks up Levi and throws him out of a window.
Collapsing onto the floor in pain, Zeke shakes his hand as he complains, "What the fuck is your head made out of, a solid brick?"
He looks up at the broken window and picks himself up to look out of it. "I didn't hear a splat. Why wasn't there a-" Looking out the window, "Lucky bitch, he landed in the bushes." He lies back on the floor and puts another pain killer into his mouth. "I have to hide somewhere. Wait for Sonic to show up."
He gets back up and heads to the exit.
Back to the first floor, passing by the security room again, he stops and looks at the security monitors again. He looks down to his shotgun and then right back to them.
Without a second thought, he limps into the room going straight to the monitors. With shotgun in hand, just when he's about to aim…-
"Release… me…"
He hears a voice in pain knowing who said it. He looks at Infinite on the monitor with every emotion rushing into him. Hate, anger, disgust, rage… but then all of them go away, as sympathy takes over them all. He sighs, "Dammit… Sonic. You're going to have a lot to explain from this." Aiming the shotgun, he pulls the trigger destroying the security system. Once he's done, he leaves and exits out of the building.
"I'm better off hiding outside than in a building." Looking around he sees a spot. "Perfect. Hide behind those containers and just wait." He sighs, limping to it. "I hope that kid is doing okay out there, and having a better time than I am."
Rewind…
Ready… Aim… Fire. The missile fires up into the sky and once reaching the appropriate height, it locks onto Zeke's aircraft and heads right towards him.
"Target has been hit. Target crashed into the western side of the base. Curtis and Craig are on their way to capture them. Yes, Curtis has been reminded countless times to capture them alive."
Craig arrives late to the crash site. He exits out of the car and sees Curtis punching the pilot over and over again. He then grabs his throat, "WHERE'S THE FUCKING KID!" Curtis orders.
The pilot spits blood right back and shouts, "I WAS ALONE!"
Craig just smirks. 'Pilot has balls.'
Curtis, doesn't even react to the spit. He wipes it off and licks it. "Thank you." He looks at one of the soldiers, giving him a nod.
A BOA soldier standing next to the pilot raises the back end of his rifle and hits him in the back of the head.
Craig watches the pilot fall over from the blow to the back of the head and once he hits the ground, he notices a bush move. Keeping a close eye on it, he sees it slightly move again confirming that he's right. He smirks, thinking to himself, 'The kid is in there.'
End of the chapter. Thanks for Reading. Let me know how it is. I would really appreciate it.
