Lincoln's First Pokemon
As Lincoln and Hau head down Route 1, towards Iki Town, they hear some rustling coming from some nearby grass.
"What's that?" asked Lincoln. He got his answer when a brown, mongoose-like Pokemon with a yellow stripe comes running out of it, and stands in front of them with its teeth bared.
"Watch it, Lincoln." said Hau. "That Yungoos does not look friendly."
"Is that what that Pokemon is called?" asked Lincoln. As the Yungoos slowly apporaches the two, the sounds of small footsteps, flapping, and bouncing were heard. All of a sudden, a small, white, catlike Pokemon with red orange stripes on it, jumps at the Yungoos, and swipes at its face with its claws. Soon, a beige, owl-like Pokemon with green leaves on its chest, resembling a bow tie, along with a blue, seal-like Pokemon come out, and stand between Lincoln and Hau, and the Yungoos. The catlike Pokemon hisses at the Yungoos, making it run back into the grass.
"Hey! Wait up, you three." said a man's voice. Lincoln and Hau look to see a tan man with a brown goatee, wearing sunglasses, white lab coat, white cap with a rainbow design on it, gray shorts with a green waistband, and green shoes.
"Professor Kukui?" said Hau.
"Who's he?" asked Lincoln.
"He's a researcher on Pokemon here in Alola." explained Hau. The man, now known as Professor Kukui looks over at the boys.
"Oh, Alola, Hau." said Professor Kukui.
"Alola, Professor." said Hau.
"Are you two, okay?" asked Professor Kukui.
"Yeah, thanks to these Pokemon." said Hau.
"I was actually looking after these Pokemon when they dashed off to save you and your friend." said Professor Kukui.
"It was a good thing they did." said Hau. Professor Kukui looks at Lincoln.
"So, what's your name?" asked Professor Kukui.
"This is Lincoln Loud." said Hau. "He's new here in Alola."
"So, what brings you to our tropical paradise, Lincoln?" asked Professor Kukui. Lincoln explains how he ended up in Alola due to Luan's prank. Professor Kukui couldn't believe what he just heard. "What kind of sibling does something like that?"
"One who intends to go a little too far on April Fools' Day." replied Lincoln. "Although, I don't get how mailing me to a tropical paradise is considered a prank." Lincoln then rubs his head. "Unless the bumpy ride was the prank."
"Well, at least you made it here in one piece, Lincoln." said Professor Kukui. "I hope you enjoy your time here in Alola until we help you get home." Lincoln felt somethng nuzzling his leg; and looks down to see the catlike Pokemon nuzzling him. "I think Litten likes you, Lincoln."
"Litten? Is that what this Pokemon is called?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes." said Professor Kukui. He points at the owl-like Pokemon. "This is Rowlet." He then points at the seal-like Pokemon. "And this is Popplio."
"Wow." said Lincoln. All of a sudden, a small, orange Pokemon with a spherical body, a hornlike protrusion coming out the top of its head, and a whitish blue aura that gives him lightning bolt-shaped appendages appears. "What's this Pokemon?"
"Hey, Rotom." said Professor Kukui. "What are you doing?" The Pokemon, now known as Rotom flies around Lincoln and looks him over. It then flies towards Lincoln's back pocket and hovers around it. Lincoln reaches into it and pulls out his broken phone.
"Is this what you're interested in?" asked Lincoln. Suddenly, a surge of energy comes out of Rotom and envelopes Lincoln's broken device. The cracks on the screen started to disappear, the casing started to turn orange, and a lightning bolt-shaped protusion comes out the top of it. Once the device was restored/modified, Rotom gets absorbed into it.
"What's Rotom up to?" asked Hau.
"You see, Rotom has the ability to inhabit any device that needs electricity and alters it to suit itself." explained Professor Kukui. All of a sudden, Lincoln's restored device flies out of his hand.
"What's going on?" asked Lincoln. A face appears on the screen, and smiles at Lincoln.
"Hello, Lincoln." said Lincoln's device, startling him.
"Did my device just talk?" asked Lincoln.
"Actually, that was Rotom talking." explained Professor Kukui.
"Yes, Lincoln." said Rotom. "I analyzed the data on your device and modified it so you can understand what I'm saying."
"That is so cool." said Lincoln.
"In addition, I also added a pokedex feature to your device as well." said Rotom.
"What's a pokedex?" asked Lincoln.
"A pokedex is an electronic encyclopedia of all the Pokemon in a given area." explained Professor Kukui.
"Just hold me towards any Pokemon, and I can give you information on it." said Rotom. "Feel free to try it out on the three Pokemon that are with you."
"Okay." said Lincoln. He grabs his Rotom-inhabited device and holds it towards Litten. An image of Litten appears on it.
"Litten, the Fire Cat Pokemon. If you try too hard to get close to it, it won't open up to you. Even if you do grow close, giving it too much affection is still a no-no." said Lincoln's device.
"How come the Litten on this picture have black fur instead of white like this one?" asked Lincoln.
"Some Pokemon has different coloration then they normally do." replied Professor Kukui. "They're called Shiny Pokemon, very rare."
"Oh, okay." said Lincoln. He then points the device at Rowlet.
"Rowlet, the Grass Quill Pokemon. It sends its feathers, which are as sharp as blades, flying in attack. Its legs are strong, so its kicks are also formidable." said the device. Lincoln then points the device at Popplio.
"Popplio, the Sea Lion Pokemon. The balloons it inflates with its nose grow larger and larger as it practices day by day." said the device.
"This is so cool!" said Lincoln.
"So, what brings you this way, Professor?" asked Hau.
"I'm bringing these three to your grandfather to give to future trainers." explained Professor Kukui. "I'll come along with you back to Iki Town, just in case other wild Pokemon try to attack you.
"Thank you." said Hau. Just then, Litten jumps up, and plops down on Lincoln's shoulder, then nuzzles his cheek.
"You wanna ride on my shoulder, Litten?" asked Lincoln. Litten smiles and nods in response. "Okay, then." Everyone continues down Route 1, and soon reach Iki Town. They all then head to Kahuna Hala's house and walk inside.
"Grandfather, we're back." said Hau.
"Welcome back." said Kahuna Hala, who then notices Professor Kukui with them. "Alola, Professor Kukui."
"Alola, Kahuna Hala." replied Professor Kukui. Kahuna Hala looks over at Lincoln and notices the Shiny Litten on his shoulder.
"Is that one of the Pokemon you told me about?" asked Kahuna Hala.
"Yes." said Professor Kukui. "As you can see, it seems to like Lincoln."
"I can see that." said Kahuna Hala. Hau decides to bring up something he discussed with Lincoln.
"Grandfather; can Lincoln enroll in the Pokemon School?" asked Hau, surprising Kahuna Hala and Professor Kukui.
"How come?" asked Kahuna Hala.
"I think that Pokemon are so awesome, and I wouldn't mind learning more about them." said Lincoln.
"Are you sure?" asked Kahuna Hala. "Don't you want to go back home?"
"I wouldn't mind some time away." said Lincoln. "Besides, I can use a break from all the chaos that goes on there."
"How bad can it possilbly be?" asked Kahuna Hala. Lincoln goes on to tell them about all the craziness that goes on at his home back in Royal Woods; such as Lisa's lab experiments gone wrong, Luna's excessively loud music, Luan's pranks (especially his April Fools' Day ones), Lynn's roughhousing, the twins fighting, Lucy's...unusual hobbies, etc. Kahuna Hala, Hau, and Professor Kukui could only stare with disbelief; Lincoln had some pictures of moments he's talked about, on his device, that were still on it after Rotom's modifications, and shows them to everyone.
"How is your home still standing?" asked Kahuna Hala.
"Maybe it's tougher than anyone can imagine?" suggested Lincoln.
"A little vacation from all that wouldn't seem like such a bad idea." said Kahuna Hala.
"And as for attending the Pokemon School, I'm certain we can work something out." said Professor Kukui. "I'll talk to Samson about getting you enrolled."
"Who's that?" asked Lincoln.
"He's the principal at the Pokemon School." said Hau.
"Oh, okay." said Lincoln. "Do I need an enrollment fee?"
"It's five thousand pokedollars." said Professor Kukui. Lincoln reaches into his pocket and pulls out the money he had left after buying new clothes.
"I think I have more than enough." said Lincoln. He hands the amount needed to Professor Kukui.
"Thank you." said Professor Kukui. Kahuna Hala looks at the Pokemon that Professor Kukui brought with him.
"Let's get these little ones back into their pokeballs." said Kahuna Hala. Professor Kukui then returns Rowlet and Popplio back to their pokeballs. He then points Litten's pokeball towards it, but it jumps off Lincoln's shoulder and hides behind him.
"What's wrong, Litten?" asked Professor Kukui. Litten nuzzles Lincoln's leg.
"I think it wants to stay with Lincoln." said Kahuna Hala. Professor Kukui thinks for a minute.
"Lincoln? Would you like Litten as your first Pokemon?" asked Professor Kukui, surprising Lincoln.
"Really?" replied Lincoln.
"Litten does seem quite fond of you, and it would be wise for you to have a Pokemon to help protect you against wild ones." said Professor Kukui. Thinking back to the Yungoos encounter back on Route 1, Lincoln had to agree.
"That really would be a good idea." said Lincoln. Professor Kukui hands Litten's pokeball to Lincoln.
"To put Litten in its pokeball, just point the button at it." said Professor Kukui. Lincoln does what he's told, and a red beam comes out of light comes out of the pokeball, hits Litten, converting into red energy, and sucks it inside.
"Wow." said Lincoln. Just then, Lincoln's modified device, which we'll now refer to as a Rotom Phone (a/n: We know that Rotom Phones don't show up until Shield and Sword, at least as far as we can recall, but just work with it.) flies out of Lincoln's pocket and out in front of him.
"I can give you some information concering your new Litten, Lincoln." said the Rotom Phone. "Your new Litten is a male, he knows Scratch, Ember, and Growl; and he has the Blaze ability, which increases the power of his fire type moves when his stamina is low."
"I honestly don't know what a lot of that means." said Lincoln. "Now I really want to attend the Pokemon School.
"How about after lunch, we go to the Pokemon School and give you a tour." said Professor Kukui.
"That would be awesome!" said Lincoln. What will happen to Lincoln in Alola, what adventures await him? What sort of people and Pokemon will he meet along the way? Wait and find out.
