Memorial Hill and Plumeria
After travelling through Route 9 from Konikoni City, the group find themselves in an area called Memorial Hill. Edd looks at the map on the Rotom Pokedex, then at a graveyard.
"Fellows; it seems to get to the Ruins of Life, we...have to get through this cemetery." said Edd. Sarah and Jimmy looked nervous. "I don't like the idea of going through it either; but there's no other way."
"Let's just get this over with; I want to get to my grand trial." said Eddy.
"Very well." said Edd. The group walked across the graveyard, which was like a small maze, with Edd and Eddy up front and Ed in the rear with Sarah, Jimmy, and Maxiley between them so they'll feel safe.
"Why did there have to be a graveyard here?" asked Jimmy, nervously.
"It's believed people wished to be laid to rest here to be close to Tapu Lele." replied Maxiley.
"Tapu Lele?" asked Sarah.
"Yeah; the guardian deity of Akala Island." said Maxiley. "It's said that Tapu Lele roams around this part of the island."
"Wow." said Sarah. They walked through the graveyard until they reached a dead end; as they turned to leave, Maxiley sees what appeared to be a dark gray piece of paper that had a red circle inside a white circle inscribed on it; he picks it up.
"What's this?" asked Maxiley, getting Edd's attention.
"Why that's a Spell Tag." replied Edd. "That increases the power of ghost type attacks of the Pokemon holding it."
"Wow." said Maxiley. He puts the Spell Tag in his backpack. After that, they turned around and continued walking through the graveyard until they found their way out.
"About time we got out of there." said Sarah. They suddenly hear rustling coming from tall grass nearby. They see a black, ghostly Pokemon that looked like it had a tree stump with eyeholes around its head pop out of the grass.
"What's that?!" asked Jimmy. Edd takes the Rotom Pokedex out of his backpack and points it at the Pokemon.
"Phantump, the Stump Pokemon. An unknown spirit came to lodge in a tree stump, creating this Pokémon. A cure-all can be made from an infusion of its green leaves." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"I got this one." said Maxiley as he takes a pokeball out of his pocket. "Crabrawler, go!" He tosses Crabrawler's pokeball and releases him. "Crabrawler, Leer!" Crabrawler stares at Phantump and his eyes glow red, weakening Phantump's defense. Phantump becomes surrounded by a green glow.
"I think that's Growth." said Edd.
"Crabrawler, Pursuit!" said Maxiley. Crabrawler jumps at Phantump and hits it with his pincer, dealing super effective damage. Phantump floats to Crabrawler and makes a scary face at him, damaging him, and making him flinch.
"That's Astonish!" said Edd. Phantump then rams into Crabrawler. "That was a Tackle!"
"Then let's show Phantump what Payback looks like, Crabrawler!" said Maxiley. Crabrawler leaps at Phantump and strikes it with his pincer with incredible force, dealing super effective damage to it, and knocking it to the ground. Maxiley takes an empty pokeball out of his pocket and throws it at Phantump, hitting it and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggled around a few times until it clicks. Maxiley picks the pokeball up. "Yes! Phantump's mine!"
"Good work, Maxiley." said Sarah. Edd uses the Rotom Pokedex and uses it to look up Phantump's information.
"This says Phantump is part grass and part ghost, it's a female, she knows Tackle, Confuse Ray, Astonish, Growth, Ingrain, and Feint Attack." said Edd. "She has the Frisk ability which allows her to reveal what an opposing Pokemon is holding if it is."
"Give it that Spell Tag you found." said Sarah.
"Good idea." said Maxiley. He lets Phantump out of her pokeball and gives her the Spell Tag; after that, he uses a Super Potion to heal her wounds. He returns Phantump to her pokeball and they continue walking. They suddenly see a man wearing a lab coat, white pants and shoes, light green gloves and shades, and a woman dressed similar to the Aether Foundation people they met at Diglett's Tunnel; but what got their attention were two Team Skull goons standing in front of them.
"Don't give us trouble or we'll reduce you to rubble!" said one of the Team Skull members.
"That's right! We're gonna sell this Pokemon to get rich, and we make no bones about it!" said the other Team Skull member as he points at a pink Pokemon that's behind him.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Sarah. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Slowpoke, the Dopey Pokemon. Although their tails, which fall off naturally, can easily be found lying around, they're a precious ingredient for cooking." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"If you want it back, you're gonna have to take it!" said the Team Skull member.
"Stand firm!" said the man in the lab coat. "Think of what the president would say!"
"That's what you say, Chief!" said the Aether Paradise woman. "But you don't lift a finger!"
"Why, I am the Aether Foundation's last line of defense!" said the man in the lab coat. "What would become of the foundation if something were to happen to me now?!" Sensing trouble, the group run over to them.
"Perhaps we can be of assistance?" suggested Edd, getting the two men's attention.
"Wait! Aren't you the Eds from the Lily of the Valley Conference?" asked the man in the lab coat.
"That's us all right!" said Eddy.
"Then perhaps you can deal with these hooligans for us?" asked the man in the lab coat. The group talk amongst themselves about who'll take on the Team Skull members and they decided it was Maxiley's turn.
"I'm on it." said Maxiley. "It'll be good training for my Pokemon." He steps forward while pulling out a pokeball while a Team Skull member does the same. "Pupitar, go!" He tosses Pupitar's pokeball and releases him.
"Raticate, come out!" said the Team Skull member, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Raticate.
"Pupitar, Screech!" said Maxiley. Pupitar lets out a loud shriek, weakening Raticate's defense.
"Raticate, Crunch!" said the Team Skull member. Raticate lunges at Pupitar while its teeth glows white and bites him, damaging him and weakening his special defense.
"Rock Slide!" said Maxiley. Glowing gray rocks form above Pupitar and he launches them at Raticate, hitting it and doing major damage to it due to Pupitar's Rock Incense powering up his rock type attacks and Raticate's defense being weakened by Screech. Raticate laid under a pile of rocks with swirly eyes.
"You go, Maxiley!" said Ed. The Team Skull member drops to his knees and returns Raticate to its pokeball.
"That loss was pathetic." said the Team Skull member. "Let's get out of here; we don't need this Pokemon anyway." He tosses pokedollars at Maxiley and the Team Skull members run away, leaving the Slowpoke behind. The woman walks over to the Slowpoke, then turned towards the group.
"Thanks, young man." said the woman.
"You're indeed a strong trainer; I'm impressed." said the man in the lab coat. "I'd like to reward all of you by showing you something truly outstanding."
"Can it wait until after our Grand Trials?" asked Eddy.
"Of course; come to the Hano Grand Resort after your Grand Trials and I will take you to see a wonderous place." said the man in the lab coat. The woman walks to Maxiley.
"Thank you for helping us out." said the woman. "I'm glad there are nice trainers like you around."
"No problem." said Maxiley. The man and woman walk away. Maxiley then returns Pupitar to his pokeball.
"Come on, let's get going." said Eddy. They continued walking until they exited Memorial Hill. Edd looks at the map.
"Right now, we're in a place called the Akala Outskirt." said Edd. "Once we get through here, we should arrive at the Ruins of Life." They begin walking through tall grass when they see a blue, stony, Pokemon with a red nose in the grass. "What is this?" He points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Nosepass, the Compass Pokemon. It hunts without twitching a muscle by pulling in its prey with powerful magnetism. But sometimes it pulls natural enemies in close." said the Rotom Pokedex. Eddy steps forward while pulling a Dive Ball out of his pocket.
"I got this one." said Eddy. He pulls out his Poliwrath's pokeball and releases him from it. "Okay, Poliwrath, use Submission!" Poliwrath tucks himself into a ball and rolls at the Nosepass, slamming into him, doing super effective damage, and hurting himself a little in the process. The Nosepass' body becomes covered in electricity and floats quickly towards Poliwrath, slamming into him, and doing super effective damage.
"That must've been Spark, Eddy!" said Edd.
"I better hurry and finish this." said Eddy. "Poliwrath, use Brick Break!" Poliwrath raises his arm and brings it down with a chop onto the Nosepass, doing super effective damage, and knocking it to the ground. Eddy then takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Nosepass, hitting it, and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Congratulations, Eddy." said Edd. He looks up Nosepass' information on the Rotom Pokedex. "This says your new Nosepass is female, she knows Tackle, Harden, Block, Rock Throw, Thunder Wave, Rest, Spark, and Rock Slide; and she has the Sturdy ability." Nosepass' pokeball then disappears to storage.
They then suddenly hear some rustling from the nearby grass. They look to see a tiny, green, birdlike Pokemon hops out of it. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Natu, the Little Bird Pokemon. The look in its eyes gives the impression that it's carefully observing you. If you approach it, Natu will hop away." said the Rotom Pokedex. Maxiley steps forward while pulling out a pokeball.
"I got this one; Pupitar, go!" said Maxiley, throwing Pupitar's pokeball and releasing him. "Use Leer!" Pupitar looks at Natu while his eyes glow blue, weakening Natu's defense. Natu flaps its wings and releases a purple gust of wind from them, and it hits Pupitar. "Now use Chip Away!" Pupitar leaps at Natu and rams into it several times, doing more damage due to its defense being weakened; Natu falls to the ground. Maxiley pulls out an empty pokeball and throws it at Natu, hitting it and sucking it in. It wiggled around a few times before it stops and clicks. He picks up Natu's pokeball. "Yeah! Natu's mine!"
"Congratulations, Maxiley." said Edd while looking up Natu's information. "This says your Natu's part flying and part psychic, it's a male, he knows Peck, Leer, Night Shade, Teleport, Lucky Chant, Store Power, and Ominous Wind; he has the Early Bird ability, which I recall, allows the Pokemon to wake up earlier than it normally would from the sleep status condition." The group continued walking until they reached the entrance to the Ruins of Life.
"Well, fellows; it may have taken a while, but we've finally made it." said Edd.
"I can't wait!" said Ed.
"Me, neither!" said Jimmy.
"Well let's get going!" said Eddy.
"So you're the ones interfering with Team Skull." said a voice. The group turned to see a young woman with pink hair with yellow highlights, wearing a black sleeveless tank top, black baggy pants with a white zigzag pattern, and gray sneakers.
"Who the heck are you?" asked Sarah.
"I'm Plumeria; I help keep Team Skull together." said the woman, now identified as Plumeria.
"You work for Team Skull?!" asked Sarah.
"Yes, I'm like a big sister to these numbskulls." said Plumeria. "You know what idiots they are, right?"
"Don't get us started." said Edd.
"Your interference is really annoying." said Plumeria.
"They're the ones always starting it!" said Eddy. Plumeria pulls out a pokeball.
"I'm putting an end to your interference." said Plumeria. Ed steps forward while pulling out a pokeball.
"I'll battle you." said Ed.
"As you wish." said Plumeria. "Golbat, go!" She tosses her pokeball, releasing a Golbat.
"Ampharos, come out!" said Ed, tossing Ampharos' pokeball and releasing her. "Ampharos, Charge!" Ampharos becomes covered in sparks and her special defense increases.
"Golbat, Poison Fang!" said Plumeria. Golbat flies at Ampharos while its fangs glowed purple and bites onto Ampharos, hurting her. It turned purple under Ampharos' eyes. "Looks like your Pokemon's poisoned." Golbat begins twitching and its body becomes surrounded by static.
"And your Pokemon's paralyzed!" said Eddy.
"Gotta love that Static ability." said Sarah.
"You can do it, Ampharos!" said Ed. Ampharos nods and lets out a yell; the poison gets expelled from her body.
"What?! How?!" asked Plumeria.
"It's called a bond between trainers." said Edd. "Something I doubt Team Skull knows anything about." Plumeria growls in response.
"Electro Ball!" said Ed. Ampharos holds out her arms and forms a ball made of electricty; she launches it at Golbat and hits it, dealing massive super effective damage due to Charge powering up Ampharos' electric type move and Golbat being weak against electric type moves. Golbat falls to the ground with swirly eyes. "Great job, Ampharos!" Ampharos nods and smiles in response.
"Go get her, Ed!" said Maxiley.
"Yeah; the sooner you take her down, the sooner we can get to our Grand Trials!" said Eddy.
"You got it, Eddy!" said Ed. Plumeria returns Golbat to its pokeball and puts it away while pulling out another one.
"Go, Salandit!" said Plumeria, throwing her pokeball and releasing a Salandit. "Salandit, Dragon Rage!" Salandit fires a blast of purple energy from its mouth and it hits Ampharos, damaging her.
"Ampharos, Thunder Punch!" said Ed. Ampharos raises her arm and electricity forms at the end of it; she charges at Salandit and punches it, knocking her to the ground. As it gets up, it begins twitching.
"There's a chance Thunder Punch will cause paralyis." said Edd.
"Cool." said Ed.
"You won't think this is cool; Salandit, Flame Burst!" said Plumeria. Unfortunately, paralysis stops Salandit from attacking.
"Ampharos, Tackle!" said Ed. Ampharos charges at Salandit and rams it, knocking it out.
"You did it, big brother!" said Sarah.
"You showed her!" said Jimmy. Plumeria returns Salandit to its pokeball and walks to Ed.
"You're strong, I'll give you that." said Plumeria as she gives Ed pokedollars.
"Thanks." said Ed.
"But mess with Team Skull again, and I'll show you how serious I can get." said Plumeria.
"Then don't provoke us." said Edd. Plumeria scoffs and walks away. "Now with that taken care of, let's proceed to the Ruins of Life."
"Yeah, I've waited long enough." said Eddy. After Ed uses a Super Potion on Ampharos on returns her to her pokeball, the group walk towards the Ruins of Life where they plan on facing Kahuna Olivia in their Grand Trials.
Meanwhile, several miles away from Alola, Eddy's brother was leaning forward on the railing of the fishing boat he was on, looking at the ocean; a fisherman on the boat was casting back his fishing pole and unknowingly hooking Eddy's brother's rear. The fisherman casts his fishing pole forward.
"AAAAAAAUGH!" Eddy's brother yells out in pain.
