Maxiley's Rival
The group are currently on a bus bound for the Hokulani Observatory on top of Mount Hokulani where their next trial is. Eddy was giving a magazine he signed to a boy.
"Thanks, Eddy; you're the coolest!" said the boy. He walks back to his seat.
"How close do you think we are to this observatory?" asked Eddy.
"I'm excited to see it, so I hope we get there soon." said Edd.
"What do you think the Totem Pokemon is like, you guys?" asked Ed.
"You think we're ready for it?" asked Jimmy.
"You guys have been training really hard; I'm sure it nothing you can't handle." said Maxiley.
"We want to be ready for the Alola League." said Ed.
"And the Junior's Division." said Sarah. She turned towards Maxiley. "And you've been training really hard, too."
"Yeah. Mask Royal's a strong trainer; I need to train really hard if I want to end his undefeated streak." said Maxiley. In the seat in front of the one Maxiley, Sarah, and Jimmy were sitting on, a caucasian boy who appeared to be slightly older than Maxiley, with braided, sandy blonde hair, wearing a black shirt, navy blue long shorts, and black and navy-blue sandals with a blue backpack on his lap stands up and looks down at Maxiley.
"Excuse me, but did you say you're going to try to beat Mask Royal and try to end his winning streak?" asked the boy.
"Yeah, why?" asked Maxiley.
"If anyone's going to end Mask Royal's undefeated streak, it's going to be me." said the boy.
"Hey, it's my goal to be the first to beat Mask Royal!" replied Maxiley, standing up.
"Go find yourself another goal." said the boy.
"You can't tell him what to do!" said Sarah.
"Mind your own business, little girl." the boy said to Sarah. Maxiley glared at the boy.
"Don't talk to her like that!" exclaimed Maxiley.
"Yeah, she's my baby sister!" said Ed, getting the boy's attention. He sees the Eds, and a shocked look appeared on his face.
"Oh man, you're the Ed trio from the Lily of the Valley Conference months ago." said the boy.
"And who might you be?" asked Edd.
"My name's Makoa." replied the boy, now identified as Makoa. He turned towards Maxiley. "I suppose you're entering Mask Royal's tournament then."
"Tournament?" asked Maxiley.
"Didn't you hear? Besides the Alola League and the Junior's Division, Mask Royal is holding a tournament at the Battle Royal Dome a week before the Alola League and the Juniors Division." said Makoa. "It's a bracket tournament; the winning trainer gets to face Mask Royal for his title in a full six on six Pokemon battle."
"Wow, cool!" replied Maxiley.
"It is, and I'm the one who's going to win it and then I'm going to beat Mask Royal." said Makoa.
"No, I'm going to be the first to beat him." said Maxiley.
"What make you think you can?" asked Makoa.
"What make you think I can't?" asked Maxiley.
"Tell you what; how about you show me how strong a trainer you are by having a Pokemon battle with me once we reach our stop?" said Makoa.
"Fine by me." replied Makoa. He and Maxiley sit back down. Minutes later, the bus finally reaches its stop. After the group and Makoa got off the bus, Maxiley and Makoa walk to a clearing with the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy following them. Maxiley and Makoa stand several feet from each other while the others watched.
"So how many Pokemon are we using?" asked Maxiley.
"How does two sound?" asked Makoa.
"Sounds good." said Maxiley. He pulls out a pokeball while Makoa pulls out a Net Ball.
"Frillish, go!" said Makoa, throwing the Net Ball and releasing a light blue Frillish. Edd points the pokedex at the Frillish.
"Frillish, the Floating Pokemon. Using the invisible poison spikes on its veillike arms and legs, it paralyzes its enemies and causes them to drown." said the Rotom Dex.
"Phantump, go!" said Maxiley, throwing Phantump's pokeball and releasing her. Phantump and Frillish face each other.
"Frillish, Ominous Wind!" said Makoa. Frillish aims the top of its head towards Phantump and spins, releasing a purple, cyclone of wind at Phantump, and it hits her, being dealt super effective damage.
"Oh dear, Ominous Wind is a ghost type move; ghost type Pokemon are weak against them." said Edd.
"Phantump, Astonish!" said Maxiley. Phantump floats to Frillish and makes a scary face at it, dealing super effective damage to it, and due to Spell Tag, Astonish was much stronger than it originally was. A dark purple aura suddenly surrounds Frillish's body and then another one forms around Phantump's body. "What wrong, Phantump?"
"What's wrong is that Frillish's Cursed Body ability activated." said Makoa.
"Oh dear, I remember that ability." said Edd. "There's a chance that a Pokemon that hits a Pokemon with that ability won't be able to use the move it used. That means Phantump cannot use Astonish for a while." said Edd.
"Phantump still has plenty of moves in her disposal." said Maxiley. Fortunately, Astonish still causes Frillish to flinch. "Now use Feint Attack!" Phantump disappears. As Frillish is looking around, Phantump appears next to it and punches it, dealing super effective damage.
"You're doing great, Maxie." said Sarah.
"Frillish, Night Shade!" said Makoa. Frillish's eyes begin glowing purple and its body glows pale blue; it holds out its tentacles and waves them around. It releases glowing pink rings from its body, and they hit Phantump, dealing super effective damage to her.
"Use Leech Seed!" said Maxiley. Phantump spits out a seed and it lands on Frillish. It opens up and small vines come out of it and they wrap around Frillish.
"Ominous Wind!" said Makoa. Frillish releases another purple cyclone of wind that hit Phantump, dealing super effective damage, knocking her to the ground. As she struggles to get up, the vines from Leech Seed drain some of Frillish's energy and it transfers to Phantump, healing some of her wounds. Frillish begins to slowly float to the ground. "Stay up, Frillish!"
"Feint Attack one more time!" said Maxiley. Phantump disappears, then reappears in front of Frillish, and she punches it across the face, dealing super effective damage. Frillish falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Frillish is unable to battle. Phantump wins." said Edd.
"Great job, Phantump." said Maxiley.
"Go, Maxiley!" said Sarah.
"You can do it!" said Jimmy. Makoa returns Frillish to its Net Ball.
"I'll admit, you got skill." said Makoa. He puts Frillish's Net Ball away and pulls out a pokeball. "But let's see if your skill can help you beat my ace Pokmeon. Metang, go!" He throws the pokeball and releases a robotic, teal Pokemon with thick arms with claws on the end of them, and red eyes with a metal spike coming out from between them, hovering above the ground. Edd takes out the Rotom Dex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Metang, the Iron Claw Pokemon and the evolved form of Beldum. It flies at high speeds around the skies. When it finds its prey, Metang takes a firm grip with its sharp claws and never lets go." said the Rotom Phone.
"Metang, Metal Claw!" said Makoa. Metang hovers quickly towards Phantump and slashes her with its claws, knocking her to the ground, unconscious.
"Phantump is unable to battle. Metang wins." said Edd.
"Don't give up, Maxiley; I believe in you." said Sarah.
"We all do." said Eddy. Maxiley nods at the group and returns Phantump to her pokeball.
"You were great, Phantump." said Maxiley. He puts Phantump's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "You're bringing out your ace, so I'm bringing out mine. Pupitar, go!" He throws Pupitar's pokeball and releases him. "Pupitar, Leer!" Pupitar's eyes glowed red and he looks at Metang, but nothing appeared to happen to it.
"Why doesn't it look like Leer's working?" asked Eddy.
"My Metang has the Clear Body ability; stat lowering moves have no effect on it." said Makoa. "Okay, Metang, Metal Claw!" Metang flies at Pupitar and slashes him, dealing super effective damage.
"Pupitar, Bite!" said Maxiley. Pupitar jumps towards Metang while a white aura resembling a pair of teeth form around Pupitar and it bites onto Metang, dealing super effective damage and making it flinch.
"Good thing Metang's part psychic; they're weak against dark type moves." said Edd.
"You're doing great, Maxiley." said Ed.
"Use Bite again!" said Maxiley. Pupitar bites Metang with another white aura teeth, dealing super effective damage to it. Unfortunately, Metang doesn't flinch.
"Metang, Bullet Punch!" said Makoa. Metang hovers to Pupitar and repeatedly punches him with both of his arms, dealing super effective damage to it. Pupitar struggles to stay up.
"Pupitar, Dark Pulse!" said Maxiley. Pupitar releases black and purple rings of energy from his body, and they hit Metang, dealing super effective damage to it, and making it flinch. It begins to float to the ground. Maxiley holds up his Z-Ring.
"You have a Z-Ring?!" exclaimed Makoa.
"Yep." replied Maxiley. He does the pose he learned from Kahuna Olivia and channels energy onto Pupitar, and the Z-Power symbol appears. "Pupitar, Continental Crush!" Pupitar floats up into the air and summons large rocks from the ground, which form a large boulder. Pupitar launches it at Metang and it crashes into it. Despite Metang being resistant to rock type moves, Continental Crush still did enough damage to knock Metang out.
"Metang is unable to battle. Pupitar wins. That means Maxiley wins the battle." said Edd.
"Maxiley did it!" said Ed.
"Showed that kid." said Eddy.
"Served him right for messing with Maxiley." said Sarah. Pupitar falls to Maxiley, who catches him in his arms and hug him.
"You were incredible, Pupitar." said Maxiley. Pupitar nods in response. Makoa returns Metang to its pokeball.
"I'll have to train you and Frillish extra hard." said Makoa. He puts Metang's pokeball away and walks to Maxiley. "You beat me this time, but when we meet at the tournament, you won't be so lucky."
"Where do I sign up?" asked Maxiley.
"Signups are at Pokemon Centers." replied Makoa. "I hope we battle again at the tournament; I'm not going to take this loss lightly, so now you and me, we're rivals." He gives Maxiley pokedollars and walks away. Now that Maxiley knows about the Mask Royal's tournament, along with having a new rival, Maxiley plans to train hard to win the tournament, earn the chance to battle Mask Royal, and defeat him.
