First Pokemon
(Three Weeks Later)
It was morning in the cabin that Lincoln and Sam were staying in, Lincoln was just coming out of his bedroom after taking a shower and getting dressed. He walks into the kitchen area and walks over to the fridge and pulls out a carton of eggs.
"Morning, little bro." said Sam as she walks into the kitchen.
"Morning, sis." said Lincoln as he cracks a couple eggs open and dumps their contents onto a skillet that was on the stove.
"Are you excited about today?" asked Sam.
"You bet!" said Lincoln. "Today's the day we get our first Pokemon!"
"You've been looking forward to this day." said Sam. Lincoln then looks towards you.
"I have learned so much at the Trainer School since I started attending it." said Lincoln. "I have learned so much about Pokemon; such as the many types of them, abilities, how to catch/raise/train them, status conditions, items used to cure said conditions, etc. It has been so awesome."
"We should hurry and eat so we can get to Professor Rowan's place." said Sam.
"Okay, sis!" Lincoln says to Sam before looking back at you. "Sam's been learning about a lot of Pokemon as well. She got a job at the Pokemon Center here, helping injured Pokemon recover. She sometimes plays her guitar to help them relax, which really helps. Sometimes trainers come by just to hear her play since they like her music so much." Sam looks out a window and sees the Shinx they first met when they arrived in the dimension they're in right now, running around.
Sam smiles as she takes out a couple of bowls, pours Pokemon food into one, and water into the other; she opens the back door and sets them outside it. The Shinx runs over and starts chowing down.
"Looks like someone's hungry this morning." said Sam. Once breakfast was done, which consisted of fried eggs, sausage links, and toast, along with glasses of orange juice; the two sat at the dining room table and start eating. As they do, Lincoln looks at the food on his plate with melancholy on his face.
"This is the dish I helped you learn to make the day our lives changed, except for the toast part." said Lincoln, making a sad look appear on Sam's face.
"I wonder if anyone back in Royal Woods realizes we're gone." said Sam.
"Probably by now." said Lincoln.
"I wonder if we'll ever see our families and friends someday." said Sam.
"Maybe; but for now, we should just enjoy the peace and not having to deal with the looks and the reporters." said Lincoln.
"Yeah." said Sam with a small smile. After they finished breakfast, they cleaned the dishes. They went to their rooms to grab their backpacks that they took with them from their original dimension; they then exited the cabin and locked the door. Sam sees Shinx looking at her. "Bye, Shinx." They then walk towards Sandgem City, and to Professor Rowan's lab.
"Hey, everyone!" a voice says from behind them. Sam and Lincoln turn around to see Dawn running over to them.
"Good morning, Dawn." said Lincoln.
"What are you up to this morning?" asked Dawn.
"We were going to Professor Rowan's lab to get our first Pokemon." said Lincoln with excitement.
"That's great." said Dawn. "Can I come with?"
"We don't mind." said Sam.
"Great; let's go!" said Dawn as the three started walking towards their destination.
Minutes later, they arrive and go inside where they see Professor Rowan looking at some notes.
"Morning, Professor Rowan." said Lincoln, getting Professor Rowan's attention.
"Oh, Lincoln, Sam, Dawn; how are you three this morning?" asked Professor Rowan.
"We're great." replied Lincoln.
"Are you two ready to receive your first Pokemon?" said Professor Rowan.
"We've been ready for days!" said Lincoln with excitement. Professor Rowan leads them to a small table where three pokeballs were sitting.
"Are these the starter Pokemon?" asked Sam.
"Yes, Sam." replied Professor Rowan. He picks up one of the pokeballs and tosses it, releasing a light green turtle-like Pokemon with a brown shell. "This is Turtwig, a grass type."
He picks up another pokeball and tosses it, releasing a blue, penguin-like Pokemon. "This is Piplup, a water type."
He then picks up the final pokeball and tosses it, releasing an orange, chimp-like Pokemon that had fire on its rear end. "And finally, Chimchar, a fire type."
"Hi there." said Lincoln.
"Turtwig." said Turtwig.
"Piplup." said Piplup.
"Chimchar." said Chimchar.
"They're so cute." said Sam. Professor Rowan turned towards Lincoln and Sam.
"So, which of you will be choosing first?" asked Professor Rowan. Lincoln looks at Sam.
"You go first, Sam." said Lincoln.
"You sure?" asked Sam.
"Definitely." replied Lincoln.
"Thanks, little bro." said Sam. She walks to the three starters and looks at each of them before stopping at Piplup. She kneels downs towards it. "I think I'll pick Piplup."
"Pip." said Piplup. Professor Rowan walks to Sam and gives her Piplup's pokeball. Lincoln walks over and leans down towards Chimchar.
"I pick Chimchar." said Lincoln.
"Char." said Chimchar. Professor Rowan then gives Lincoln Chimchar's pokeball. Lincoln looks at Turtwig.
"I hope you get a good trainer, Turtwig." said Lincoln.
"Tur." replied Turtwig.
"There is another trainer coming later today; I'm sure she'll be pleased to have Turtwig." said Professor Rowan. He then walks to two, red, tablet-like devices that were also sitting on the table and picks them up.
"What are those things?" asked Sam.
"These are pokedexes." said Professor Rowan. "They contain information on all Pokemon you may come across in the future." He then looks at the Turtwig and points the pokedex at it.
"Turtwig, the Tiny Leaf Pokemon. Made from soil, the shell on its back hardens when it drinks water. It lives along lakes." said the pokedex.
"Like I just demonstrated; to look up a Pokemon's information, just hold out the pokedex towards the Pokemon." said Professor Rowan.
"Cool." said Lincoln.
"It will also tell you what the Pokemon's gender, moves, and abilities are." said Professor Rowan. "For example, this says that this Turtwig is a boy, he knows Tackle and Withdraw, and he has the Overgrow ability which increases the power of his grass type moves if he only has a fourth of his stamina remaining."
"Can Sam and I try using them on our Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.
"Of course." said Professor Rowan as he hands Lincoln and Sam each a pokedex. Lincoln points his pokedex at his Chimchar.
"Chimchar, the Chimp Pokemon. It agilely scales sheer cliffs to live atop craggy mountains. Its fire is put out when it sleeps." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Awesome!" said Lincoln. "This says my Chimchar is a boy, he knows Scratch and Leer, and he has the Blaze ability, which is like Overgrow, but with fire attacks." Sam then points her pokedex at her new Piplup.
"Piplup, the Penguin Pokemon. Because it is very proud, it hates accepting food from people. Its thick down guards it from cold." said Sam's pokedex.
"Cool!" said Sam. "This says my Piplup's a dudette, she knows Pound and Growl, and she has the Torrent ability which is like Overgrow and Blaze but with water attacks."
"Now you know how the pokedexes work." said Professor Rowan.
"Thank you, sir." said Lincoln. Professor Rowan reaches into a desk drawer and pulls out ten empty pokeballs.
"Do you know how to catch Pokemon?" asked Professor Rowan.
"Yeah." said Lincoln. "First you need to battle the Pokemon to wear it out, then you throw an empty pokeball at it."
"Correct." said Professor Rowan. He then hands Lincoln and Sam five pokeballs each. "So, what are your plans now?"
"It's the weekend right now so I don't have school to attend." said Lincoln.
"And I have weekends off from working at the Pokemon Center." said Sam.
"Maybe I'll spend some time hanging out with my new Chimchar, maybe train him up a bit, and maybe catch some Pokemon for my team." said Lincoln.
"I'll do the same with my Piplup." said Sam.
"Very well." said Professor Rowan. After that, he, Dawn, Sam, and Lincoln exit the Pokemon lab. They soon see Shinx running over to them with a smile on its face.
"Hi, Shinx." said Sam. Shinx runs over to Sam and nuzzles her leg. "I wonder what my pokedex will say about this little guy." She then points her pokedex at Shinx.
"Shinx, the Flash Pokemon. All of its fur dazzles if danger is sensed. It flees while the foe is momentarily blinded." said Sam's pokedex.
"Hey, Shinx; we have some new friends for you." said Sam. She turned towards Piplup. "Hey, Piplup; say hello to Shinx." Piplup waves at Shinx, who smiles in response.
"Say hi to Shinx, too, Chimchar." said Lincoln.
"Chimchar." said Chimchar, waving at Shinx. Shinx waves a paw in response.
"They seem to be getting along already." said Sam.
"Maybe you should catch Shinx for your team?" suggested Lincoln.
"I don't know; I don't want to have to battle and hurt it." said Sam.
"You don't necessarily have to battle Shinx." said Professor Rowan. "Battling a Pokemon just make them easier to capture." Sam then kneels towards Shinx.
"You want to join my team?" asked Sam. Shinx smiles and nods. Sam smiles back as she takes out an empty pokeball and presses the button to enlarge it; she then presses it against Shinx's head, making it open up, and suck it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Awesome!" said Lincoln. Sam then gets a notification on her pokedex, making her look at it.
"This says that Shinx is a dudette, she knows Tackle, Leer, and Thunder Shock; and she has the Intimidate ability which reduces the attack of the Pokemon she's battling against." said Sam.
"Congratulations, Sam." said Professor Rowan. Sam tosses Shinx's pokeball to let her out of it.
"Welcome to the team, Shinx." said Sam. Shinx smiles as she runs around the group, making them laugh.
Lincoln and Sam are already off to a good start as Pokemon trainers. What other Pokemon will they see? What new experiences will have in Sinnoh? Wait and find out.
