Lincoln vs. Roark
The next morning at the Pokemon, after everyone showered, got dressed, ate breakfast, brushed their teeth, and got their Pokemon back; they started walking over to the gym.
"So, which Pokemon are you going to use against Roark, Lincoln?" asked Dawn.
"I'll start off with Bibarel since she has a water type move." said Lincoln. "If I have to, I'll use Monforno if she becomes unable to battle due to him knowing a couple of fighting type moves, and I'll save Zorua for last."
"Sounds good to me, bro." said Sam. Two minutes later, they all arrive at the Oreburgh Gym.
"Here goes nothing." said Lincoln before he and the girls enter the building. They look around the main area and see a large battle arena with large rocks all over it.
"Good morning, everyone." said Roark's voice, making them look to see him walking over to them.
"Morning, Roark." said Lincoln.
"You're here early." said Roark.
"I really want to have our gym battle." said Lincoln.
"Well, if you're ready, then let's get started." said Roark. "And I should warn you that I won't be going easy on you."
"I don't want you to." said Lincoln with determination in his voice. "I want you to give our battle everything you got!"
"That's what I like to hear." said Roark.
"We'll be over there rooting for you, bro." said Sam while pointing to one of the rows of bleachers that were circling the battle arena.
"Do your best, Lincoln." said Dawn.
"I will." said Lincoln. He and Roark step into the battle arena while Sam and Dawn sit down in the bleachers.
"I hope Lincoln will be all right." said Dawn.
"Don't worry about my bro." said Sam. "He's been through a lot in his life."
"Really? Like what?" asked Dawn. Sam looks away with some melancholy on her face.
"We'll tell you sometime soon." said Sam. Dawn had an upset look on her face after seeing the expression on Sam's, but she decides to ask about it later and focus on supporting Lincoln.
On the battle arena, Roark and Lincoln were standing on opposite ends of it as a gym official steps to the center.
"This gym battle is between the gym leader, Roark; and the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the official. "Both trainers will use three Pokemon each. The trainer who is able to defeat all their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the battle begin." The official steps to the side as Roark and Lincoln each pull out a pokeball from their pockets.
"Geodude, time to rock!" said Roark as he throws his pokeball, releasing a Geodude.
"Bibarel, let's do this!" said Lincoln as he throws his pokeball, releasing his Bibarel.
"Geodude, use Sunny Day!" said Roark. Geodude forms a ball of light between its hands and launches it up into the air and through the ceiling; the sunlight coming in through a skylight became very intense.
"Nice strategy." said Lincoln. "That move weakens the power of water moves."
"I see you figured out why I used it." said Roark. "As a rock Pokemon trainer, I must take type advantages into consideration and have strategies to counter them."
"Yeah, but Bibarel has other kinds of attacks." said Lincoln. "Bibarel, use Rock Smash!" Bibarel runs towards the Geodude and slams her tail onto it, doing super effective damage to it, and driving it into the floor.
"Wasn't expecting that." said Roark with an impressed tone of voice. Geodude picks itself off the floor and Lincoln notices some cracks on its forehead.
"Looks like Rock Smash weakened Geodude's defense." said Lincoln.
"That won't stop us." said Roark. "Geodude, use Rollout!" Geodude tucks itself into a ball and rolls quickly towards Bibarel.
"Bibarel, use Defense Curl!" said Lincoln. Bibarel tucks herself into a ball and strengthens her defense. Geodude reaches Bibarel and slams into her, not doing as much damage as it normally would have and bounces off her body.
"That's some strong defense." said Roark.
"That's thanks in part to Bibarel's Simple ability." said Lincoln. "It doubles the power of all stat-changing moves."
"I see." said Roark.
"And just because Sunny Day weakened all water attacks, doesn't mean they still won't be effective against rock Pokemon!" said Lincoln. "Bibarel, use Water Gun!" Bibarel uncurls herself and releases a strong spray of water from her mouth that hits Geodude, doing super effective damage, and sends it crashing into a boulder on the field where it passes out.
"Geodude is unable to battle. Bibarel is the winner." said the official.
"Way to go, bro!" said Sam.
"Keep it up, Lincoln!" cheered Dawn.
Meanwhile, outside the gym, a green portal opens and the Loud parents and sisters, along with Clyde, Stella, Zach, and Liam step out of it, much to the surprise of people who were nearby.
"Well, here we are." said Lisa. As everyone looks around at their surroundings, they notice people gawking at them.
"What are you all looking at?!" Lola loudly asked.
"Well, we did just come out of a portal that popped up out of nowhere." said Stella.
"I wonder what kind of stuff is here?" asked Lana.
"Wow, the sun here is really bright!" said Lori as she shields her eyes from the intense sunlight.
"Is it always like this in this dimension?" asked Rita.
"Who cares?" asked Lynn Jr. "Let's just find Lincoln and Sam."
"Where can they be?" asked Leni. Lisa takes out her tracking device and turns it on; a few seconds later, a dot appears on the radar screen, making her look towards the gym's doors.
"It seems that our brother is right in this building." said Lisa.
"If Sam's with him, then she might be inside, too." said Luna.
"Let's go see." said Lori as she and the others enter the building.
Back in the gym on the battlefield, Roark was returning his Geodude to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Geodude." said Roark before putting Geodude's pokeball away and pulling out another one. "Hope you're ready for this one, Lincoln."
"Bring it on!" said Lincoln.
"Onix, time to rock!" said Roark as he throws his pokeball, releasing an Onix.
"WHAT IS THAT?!" a voice that Lincoln recognized shouts out, getting his and Roark's attention. They look over to where the shout was from, and to Lincoln's surprise, he sees his parents and sisters, along with Clyde, Stella, Zach, and Liam, all staring at the Onix.
"What are you guys doing here?!" Lincoln asked in a surprised tone.
"Lincoln!" shouts his family and friends, getting Sam and Dawn's attention.
"Luna?!" said Sam, getting Luna's attention.
"Sam!" said Luna as she runs to Sam and gives her a big hug.
"What are you doing here?" asked Sam as Luna nuzzles her cheek.
"Sam, I am so sorry!" said Luna. "I was wrong about you and Lincoln! Please forgive me!"
"Pardon me, but who are these people?" asked Dawn.
"The two adults are Lincoln's parents, most of those girls, except the one with the white shirt with the red star on it, are his sisters, and the others are friends of his." said Sam.
"Who's this?" asked Luna as she looked at Dawn.
"This is Dawn." said Sam. "She's a friend Lincoln and I made here."
"Nice to meet you." said Luna.
"Your outfit is, totes, cute." said Leni.
"Sorry to interrupt this introduction, but what's Lincoln doing in there with that thing?!" asked Rita.
"And what's that big beaver in front of him?" asked Lana.
"I'll tell you guys later." replied Lincoln. He focuses his attention back on his gym battle.
"Who are those people?" asked Roark.
"They're friends and family." said Lincoln.
"Oh, are they here to watch?" asked Roark.
"I guess." said Lincoln, though he had no idea what his family and friends were doing in this dimension, or how they found him.
"Well, let's keep going then." said Roark "Onix, use Tackle!" Onix lunges at Bibarel and rams her, knocking her back, but not doing much damage due to her increased defense.
"Sam? What's going on here?" asked Luna.
"How about you all sit and watch?" said Sam. "We can explain afterwards." Not knowing what else to do, Lincoln's family and friends joined Luna, Sam, and Dawn in the bleachers and watched the battle to see what happens. Stella gives Dawn a quick glare before turning her attention back to the battle.
"Bibarel, hit Onix with Water Gun!" said Lincoln. Bibarel releases a spiral of water out of her mouth, and it hits Onix, dealing super effective damage to it.
"How did that creature produce water like that?" asked Lisa.
"Maybe it's spit?" suggested Lana.
"Onix, use Bind!" said Roark. Onix lunges at Bibarel and wraps its body around her.
"Bibarel, Defense Curl again!" said Lincoln. Bibarel curls into a ball and raises her defense; suddenly, she pops out of Onix's grasp.
"But how?" asked Roark.
"Hard to keep a tight grip on a ball." replied Lincoln. "Bibarel, Headbutt!" Bibarel plummets down towards Onix and rams her head against Onix's, not really doing much damage.
"Dragon Breath!" said Roark. Onix fires a green beam of energy from its mouth, and it hits Bibarel, damaging her; she suddenly starts to twitch uncontrollably.
"Oh man, Bibarel's paralyzed." said Lincoln. "We won't let that stop us; Bibarel, Water Gun!" Bibarel fights through her paralysis and fires a spiral of water from her mouth that hits Onix, doing enough damage to knock it out.
"Onix is unable to battle; Bibarel wins." said the official.
"Great job, Bibarel!" said Lincoln.
"Way to go, Lincoln!" cheered Dawn.
"That was pretty cool." said Lana.
"You got this, little bro." said Sam.
"Little bro?" asked Luna.
"Yeah; we decided to make each other honorary siblings the night we came to this dimension." said Sam with melancholy on her face.
"What do you mean by 'honorary siblings' and 'came to this dimension'?" Dawn replied.
"I'm sure we'll be telling you about it after this match." said Sam.
Back on the battlefield, Roark returns Onix to its pokeball.
"You were great, Onix." said Roark. He puts his pokeball away and pulls out another one. "You're doing quite well, Lincoln; but you still have to beat my final Pokemon to win a badge from me."
"Pokemon?" asked Lynn Sr.
"Badge?" asked Lynn Jr.
"We'll explain later." said Sam. Back on the battlefield.
"Cranidos, go!" said Roark, throwing a pokeball and releasing a gray, bipedal, dinosaur-like with a blue pointed dome on top of its head.
"What was that device that creature came out of?" asked Lisa, referring to the pokeball. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Cranidos, the Head Butt Pokemon. It was resurrected from an iron-ball-like fossil. It downs prey with its headbutts." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"What is that device Lincoln has?" asked Lisa as she looked at Lincoln's pokedex. All of a sudden, the sunlight started to fade.
"What's going on with the sunlight?" asked Lana.
"Geodude's Sunny Day move must've worn off." said Sam.
"Sunny Day?" replied Lori.
"Geodude?" replied Lynn Jr.
"Sunny Day is a move that intensifies sunlight, and Geodude is another kind of Pokemon." explained Sam. The Louds, except Lincoln, along with Clyde, Zach, Liam, and Stella, all look at her with confusion on their faces.
Back on the battlefield, Lincoln was looking at Bibarel, who looked tired, with concern.
"You still want to battle, Bibarel?" asked Lincoln. Bibarel nods in response.
"Okay, Cranidos, use Rock Smash!" said Roark. Cranidos' head glows white and it charges at Bibarel; it rams its head against her; dealing super effective damage to her and weakening her defense; she struggles to her feet.
"Use Water Gun!" said Lincoln. Bibarel opens her mouth, but paralysis stops her from attacking.
"Use Focus Energy!" said Roark. A light blue aura surrounds Cranidos' body.
"Bibarel, try using Water Gun again!" said Lincoln. Bibarel tries doing so, but paralysis once again kicks in and stops her.
"Finish it with Thunderbolt!" said Roark. Cranidos fires electricity from its head and it hits Bibarel, dealing super effective damage and knocking her out.
"How did that creature produce electricity like that?!" asked Lisa.
"Bibarel is unable to battle; Cranidos wins." said the official.
"Excellent job, Cranidos." said Roark, making it do a small roar in response.
Back in the bleachers, Sam and Dawn were giving Lincoln some support.
"Don't worry, Lincoln!" said Sam.
"You still got two Pokemon to battle with!" said Dawn. Not knowing what else to do or what was going on, Lincoln's family and other friends shout their support.
"You can do it, Lincoln!" said Lana.
"Remember, son; Louds never quit!" said Lynn Sr.
"Is Lincoln safe in there?" asked Rita.
"He's fine." said Sam. "Trainers' Pokemon don't attack other trainers."
"Trainers?" replied Lana.
"We'll explain later!" said Sam and Lincoln in unison. Lincoln walks over to Bibarel and lays her head on his lap, making her weakly open her eyes and look up at him.
"You were awesome, Bibarel." said Lincoln before returning her to her pokeball. "Take a good rest."
"Your Bibarel was tough, Lincoln." said Roark.
"Thanks, but she's not my only strong Pokemon." said Lincoln as he puts Bibarel's pokeball away and pulls out another one.
"Go, Lincoln!" cheered Dawn, making Stella glare at her again.
"Monferno, time to heat things up!" said Lincoln as he throws his pokeball, releasing his Monferno.
"Cool!" said Lana.
"Oh no, that monkey's tail is on fire!" said Leni with alarm.
"Chill, Leni." said Sam. "Monferno's tail is supposed to do that."
"Why?" asked Leni.
"It's just how it is." said Sam.
"Those devices and creatures are quite fascinating." said Lisa with interest in her voice. Back on the battlefield, Monferno and Cranidos stared each other down.
"Okay, Monferno; use Power-Up Punch!" said Lincoln. Monferno moves at the Cranidos with its fist coated in energy and lands a solid hit to the side of its head, sending it flying into a boulder.
"Whoa, that was a good hit." said Lynn Jr. A surge of energy suddenly rises up from Monferno.
"What's going on?" asked Clyde.
"Power-Up Punch increases the attack strength of the Pokemon that used it." said Sam.
"I don't really get it, but I'm guessing it's a good thing." said Liam.
Back on the battlefield, Cranidos was slowly getting up off the floor.
"Cranidos, use Bulldoze!" said Roark. Cranidos begins stomping down on the ground, releasing a shockwave that hits Monferno, dealing super effective damage to him, and making him fall to the ground; he gets back up and his feet sink into the floor that was softened by the attack. "Not only did Bulldoze do major damage to Monferno, but it also decreased his speed."
"It doesn't matter how much you decrease his speed; it won't matter with this move!" replied Lincoln. "Monferno, Mach Punch!" Monferno closes his hand into a fist, and it begins to glow blue; he charges at Cranidos with great speed and lands a solid punch across its face, sending it flying into a large rock; it then slides down onto the floor, unconscious.
"Cranidos is unable to battle. Monferno is the winner. The winner of the match is the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the official.
"You did it, Monferno!" said Lincoln as he runs over to Monferno and hugs him, making him smile.
"Lincoln won!" said Dawn.
"Way to go, bro!" said Sam.
"That was so cool!" said Clyde.
"What is this about?" asked Lynn Sr.
"Who cares?" replied Lynn Jr. "It was fun to watch."
Back on the battlefield, Roark returns his Cranidos to its pokeball.
"You were great, Cranidos." said Roark as he puts Cranidos' pokeball away and walks over to Lincoln. "You did an excellent job training your Pokemon, Lincoln."
"Thanks, Roark." replied Lincoln. Roark reaches into his pocket and pulls out a brown badge that resembled a mining helmet.
"For your victory here in the Oreburgh Gym, I present you with the Coal Badge." said Roark. He gives Lincoln the Coal Badge, along with pokedollars.
"Yes! I just won the Coal Badge!" cheered Lincoln while holding it up in triumph. Sam and Dawn applaud for Lincoln's victory along with Lincoln's family and friends who didn't really understand what was going on.
"You and Lincoln have a lot of explaining to do." Luna says to Sam.
Lincoln's family and friends have found him and Sam, and he has won his first gym badge. What else is in store for the two?
