Verdant Cavern

After leaving the Hau'oli City Cemetery, the group continues to travel north towards Verdant Cavern where Lincoln's first island trial was. As he does, he trains up the Ekans and Misdreavus he recently caught. His Ekans learned Glare, and his Misdreavus learned Astonish and Confuse Ray. They stop by a Pokemon Center where Lincoln drops off his Pokemon while he and his friends had some lunch.

"Do you think I can pass the trial?" Lincoln asked his friends as he ate.

"The trials are not to be taken lightly." said Kiawe.

"But Lincoln's been training hard all week." said Mallow. "I'm certain he'll do just fine."

"We'll see about that." said Kiawe.

"Don't doubt our brother, chump!" said Lynn Jr over the Rotom Phone, making Kiawe glare at her.

After they all ate and Lincoln got his Pokemon back, they exit the Pokemon Center. As Lincoln looked around, he sees a palm tree that had a pile of berries under it and remembered all that he learned about the different kinds of them at the Pokemon School.

"I should see if any of those berries are ones that can heal status conditions in case I need some during the trial." said Lincoln.

"Good idea." said Alola Lana. As Lincoln approached the berry pile, it starts to move around. Soon, a purple, lobsterlike Pokemon with red pincers and an orange antenna, comes out from it.

"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.

"Crabrawler, the Boxing Pokemon. Its hard pincers are well suited to both offense and defense. Fights between two Crabrawler are like boxing matches." said the Rotom Phone.

"A Pokemon that likes to box?" replied Lynn Jr. "Sounds like my kind of Pokemon."

"And I think it's a shiny Crabrawler, due to its colors being different from what the picture on the Rotom Phone is like." said Lincoln.

"I like the colors of its claws." said Lynn Jr. Lincoln then takes out his Misdreavus' pokeball and releases her from it.

"I'm gonna catch this one. It could come in handy." said Lincoln.

"Get it, bro!" said Lynn Jr.

"Okay, Misdreavus; use Psywave!" said Lincoln. Misdreavus releases a wave of psychic energy from her forehead which hits Crabrawler, doing super effective damage. It responds by swing its pincer at her, but the blow goes right through her.

"Why didn't it hit?" asked Lynn Jr.

"That must've been a fighting type move it tried using." said Lincoln. "Moves like those have no effect against ghost types."

"Wicked." said Lucy.

"Misdreavus, use Astonish!" said Lincoln. Misdreavus turns away from Crabrawler, then quickly turns back around, startling it, and making it trip on its own legs, hurting it. The Crabrawler then releases a bunch of bubbles from its body which hit Misdreavus, hurting her.

"Better do something fast, Lincoln." said Lillie.

"One more Psywave, Misdreavus!" said Lincoln. Misdreavus hits Crabrawler with another with another wave of psychic energy, hitting Crabrawler, and knocking it over. Lincoln then quickly takes an empty pokeball from his pocket and throws it at the Crabrawler, hitting it, and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.

"Way to go, Lincoln!" said Lynn Jr. Lincoln then looks up his new Crabrawler on his Rotom Phone.

"This says my Crabrawler is a fighting type, it's a girl, she knows Bubble, Leer, and Rock Smash; and she has the Iron Fist ability which makes her punching moves a lot stronger than they normally would be." said Lincoln.

"If I was a Pokemon, that would totally be my ability." said Lynn Jr. Suddenly, Crabrawler's pokeball becomes covered in energy and it disappears.

"Where did it go?" asked Lincoln.

"How many Pokemon did you have on you before you caught Crabrawler?" asked Sophocles.

"Six." answered Lincoln.

"A trainer can only have up to six Pokemon with them at a time." said Sophocles. "Any other Pokemon you catch after reaching that limit are teleported to storage."

"They actually invented teleportation there?" asked Lisa with astonishment.

"Yes." said Sophocles.

"Very fascinating, indeed." said Lisa with interest.

"How can I get a Pokemon from storage?" asked Lincoln.

"There's a PC in each Pokemon Center that allows you to exchange Pokemon you have on you for ones in storage." explained Sophocles. "I'll show you how to use it."

"Thank you." said Lincoln. They all then go back in the Pokemon Center where Sophocles shows Lincoln how to use the PC to swap Pokemon. Lincoln then exchanges his Grubbin for his new Crabrawler.

Once that was done, the group continues walking until they finally reach a cavern opening where they see Iliam and Professor Kukui standing in front of it.

"Alola, everyone." said Ilima.

"Alola, Ilima." said Lincoln. He hears Leni, Luan, Lola, and Lisa calling out to him, making him do an eyeroll.

"What are you doing here, Professor Kukui?" Mallow asked.

"I came to give Lincoln my support when he attempts the Island Trial here." said Professor Kukui

"Are you ready for your trial?" asked Ilima.

"As ready as I'll ever be." said Lincoln.

"Very well." said Ilima as he steps aside. "You must make your way to the back of the cavern where the Totem Pokemon is and defeat it in battle in order to earn the Normalium-Z Crystal."

"Okay." said Lincoln.

"And please refrain from catching any Pokemon until you've completed the trial." said Ilima. Lincoln nods and he enters Verdant Cavern.

Once inside, he looks around at how big the area inside was. He then sees a path and starts to walk down it. Suddenly, a Yungoos comes out of a nearby burrow and stands in front of Lincoln and snaps its jaws at him, making him take a step back.

"That's not very nice." said Lincoln. He then takes out his new Crabrawler's pokeball and lets her out of it. "Crabrawler, use Rock Smash!" Crabrawler swings down one of her pincers onto the Yungoos, doing super effective damage, and knocking it out. Lincoln then decides to spend some time training Crabrawler by battling Pokemon found in the cavern. She soon learned Pursuit.

As Lincoln walked across a rock bridge going across a chasm, he hears a voice calling out.

"Well, well, well, look who's here." a voice that Lincoln recognized said. Lincoln lets out a moan and looks ahead to where the voice was coming from and sees Tupp, along with Zipp and Rapp standing on the other side of the rock bridge.

"What are you guys doing here?" asked Lincoln.

"We came looking for that Totem Pokemon we heard was here." said Zipp.

"I missed you, cutie!" said Rapp, making Lincoln blush.

"But we haven't seen it, and we don't want to waste a trip, so we'll just settle the score with you instead." said Tupp. He throws a pokeball, releasing his Salandit.

"I guess a warm-up wouldn't be such a bad idea." said Lincoln as he takes out a pokeball. "Rockruff, go!" He throws Rockruff's pokeball and releases him. "Rockruff, Bite!" Rockruff jumps at Salandit and bites it, hurting it, and making it flinch. "Now use Rock Throw!" The pebbles around Rockruff's neck glows and a barrage of rocks is released from his tail, and they hit Salandit, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it out.

"No way!" exclaimed Tupp before he tosses pokedollars to Lincoln. All of a sudden, Team Skull hears growling from behind them, making them look to see a large, brown, weasel-like Pokemon with a cream-colored belly and fur on its head bearing its sharp teeth at them.

"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he points his Rotom Phone at it.

"Gumshoos, the Stakeout Pokemon, and the evolved form of Yungoos. Although it wasn't originally found in Alola, this Pokémon was brought over a long time ago when there was a huge Rattata outbreak." said the Rotom Phone.

"That thing doesn't look friendly." said Zipp.

"Let's get out of here!" said Tupp. As Team Skull tries to run across the stone bridge; Rapp, who doesn't look where she was going, falls down into the chasm, only to save herself by grabbing onto a small ledge.

"Help!" Rapp shouts to her friends, but they were too far away to hear her.

"I can't just leave her like that, even though she's a member of Team Skull." said Lincoln. He runs over to help her, only for the Gumshoos to block his path. "Out of the way; she needs help!" The Gumshoos responds by snapping its jaws at him. Lincoln then takes out his Crabrawler's pokeball and lets her out of it.

"Hurry! I'm losing my grip!" said Rapp.

"Crabrawler, use Leer!" said Lincoln. Crabrawler stares harshly at the Yungoos, making it nervous, and lowering its defense. The Gumshoos responds by running at her and ramming her torso. "Use Rock Smash!" Crabrawler swings her pincer at Gumshoos and strikes its head, doing super effective damage, and lowering its defense. The Gumshoos then flings sand into Crabrawler's eyes.

"Cheap move!" said Lynn Jr.

"Crabrawler, try using Pursuit!" said Lincoln. Crabrawler moves towards the Gumshoos and manages to strike it with her body, sending it flying into a cavern wall, and knocking it out. Lincoln then quickly returns Crabrawler to her pokeball and runs over to where Rapp was barely hanging onto the ledge. He quickly grabs Rapp's hand just as she loses her grip and pulls her up to safety. Once they catch their breaths after that ordeal, Rapp tackle hugs Lincoln to the floor.

"You saved my life!" says Rapp before she pulls her mask off and peppers Lincoln's face with kisses, making him stare with stunned shock and a blush on his face while his sisters giggle on the Rotom Phone.

"W-W-Well I wouldn't have felt right about just letting you fall and getting hurt." said Lincoln. Rapp squeals with glee and plants a big wet kiss on Lincoln's cheek.

"As much as I want to spend some more time with you, cutie; I'm gonna find my 'friends' and give them a piece of my mind." said Rapp before pulling her mask back over her face and runs off while giving Lincoln a wink. After he gets over his shock, he looks at his Rotom Phone and sees his sisters smirking at him.

"I wonder if Mallow will be jealous." said Lola. Lincoln blushes a bit before getting up off the ground. He then continues walking around the cavern and soon reaches an opening in the back of it.

"This is the only place I haven't looked yet." said Lincoln.

"You think that Totem Pokemon is in there?" asked Lana.

"Must be." said Lincoln. He then steels himself and enters the cavern.

Meanwhile, near the Verdant Cavern entrance, Rapp was beating up Tupp and Zipp.

"How could you two boneheads just leave me like that?!" asked Rapp as she stomps on Tupp's back.

"We didn't know!" shouts Tupp.

"Have mercy!" said Zipp. As Rapp continued giving her friends what she thought they deserved, she was thinking about how Lincoln saved her.

'Lincoln is so cool!' Rapp thought to herself. 'I will make him mine soon.'
