Gone Fishing
After school the next day, Lincoln decides to head straight to Route 3 to do some training for his Cottonee to get her ready for his upcoming Grand Trial.
"Hey, Lincoln!" Alola Lana calls out from behind Lincoln, making him turn around to see her walking towards him.
"Hey, Lana; what's up?" replied Lincoln.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go fishing today." said Alola Lana.
"I was planning on training Cottonee today." said Lincoln.
"Then it would help if you came with." said Alola Lana. "Grass types like Cottonee have a huge advantage over the water types we'll be catching, so she should get some good training there."
"That sounds like a good idea." said Lincoln. "Maybe I can catch a few for myself also."
"I'll go to my house and grab my fishing rod and Lapras, then I'll meet you at the beach near Professor Kukui's house." said Alola Lana.
"Okay, I'll go back to Kahuna Hala's place and get my fishing rod." said Lincoln as he starts running towards Iki Town.
Alola Lana goes back to her home and heads inside to grab her fishing rod.
"Hi, Lana." said Harper and Sarah when they see her enter.
"Hi." said Alola Lana.
"What are you up to?" asked Harper.
"I'm going fishing with Lincoln today." said Alola Lana.
"You're going on a fishing date with your boyfriend?" asked Sarah with a smirk, making Alola Lana's face turn red.
"IT'S NOT A DATE, AND HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND!" said Alola Lana as she quickly grabs her fishing rod, climbs onto the Lapras outside, and starts heading for Melemele Sea.
Meanwhile, outside Professor Kukui's house, Lincoln was standing around, waiting for Alola Lana when he sees her riding on her Lapras towards the shore nearby.
"Alola, Lana." said Lincoln.
"Alola, Lincoln." replied Alola Lana as she brings her Lapras close enough to the shore so Lincoln could climb onto it. They head off to an open area of the sea and cast their fishing lines into the water.
About a minute later, Lincoln gets a tug on his line.
"I caught something!" said Lincoln. He quickly pulls his line out of the water, along with a blue, clam like Pokemon with a pink, orblike head inside the shell. Out of curiosity, Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at it.
"Clamperl, the Bivalve Pokemon. Despite its appearance, it's carnivorous. It clamps down on its prey with both sides of its shell and doesn't let go until they stop moving." said the Rotom Phone.
"What's that inside it?" asked Lincoln as he notices a large, white orb inside the shell with the Clamperl's head.
"That looks like a Big Pearl." said Alola Lana. "Sometimes Pokemon are holding items when you catch them."
"I'll bet my sister, Lola, would love that, as well as the Clamperl." said Lincoln.
"Here." said Alola Lana as she hands Lincoln a few pokeballs that were blue and white with a red V going up the middle of them, along with three vertical yellow lines.
"What are those?" asked Lincoln as he grabs them.
"They're Lure Balls." said Alola Lana. "They're very effective at catching Pokemon that are caught on fishing lines."
"How come?" asked Lincoln.
"I never wondered, now that you mention it." said Alola Lana. Lincoln takes out his Cottonee's pokeball and lets her out of it.
"Alright, Cottonee; use Absorb!" said Lincoln. Cottonee releases a stream of green energy from her body which hits the Clamperl, draining it of stamina. It reacts by leaping at Cottonne and clamps onto her.
"That's Clamp!" said Alola Lana.
"Cottonee, use Fairy Wind!" said Lincoln. Cottonee releases a blast of pink wind from her body that blows the Clamperl off of her, sending it back into the water. He quickly takes one of the Lure Balls that Alola Lana gave her and throws it at the Clamperl, hitting it and sucking it in; the Lure Ball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"You did it, Lincoln!" cheered Alola Lana. Lincoln smiles as his new Clamperl's Lure Ball floats over to him and he grabs it out of the water. He then uses his Rotom Phone to learn more about his new Pokemon.
"This says my new Clamperl's a girl, she knows Clamp, Water Gun, Whirlpool, and Iron Defense; she also has the Shell Armor ability which keeps from taking critical hits." said Lincoln.
The two continue fishing for a while before Lincoln gets another bite on his line. He pulls it out, along with a Corsola.
"I'll bet Lola would like this one because it's not just cute, but also pink; her favorite color." said Lincoln. "Cottonee, use Leech Seed!" Cottonee then launches seeds from her body which hit the Corsola, making vines sprout from them, and wrap around it. The Corsola responds by leaping at Cottonee, and ramming into her. Suddenly, the vines around Corsola drains her of stamina and transfers it to Cottonee, healing the damage she just took a bit. "Now use Absorb!" Cottonee releases another stream of energy from herself that hits Corsola, draining it of a lot of stamina, healing her a bit more. Lincoln quickly takes out another Lure Ball and throws it at the Corsola, hitting it, and sucking it in; the Lure Ball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Good work, Lincoln!" said Alola Lana. Lincoln then looks up his new Corsola's information on his Rotom Phone.
"This says that my new Corsola's a girl, she knows Tackle, Harden, Bubble, Recover, Bubble Beam, Refresh, and Ancient Power; she also has the Hustle ability which make her physical moves stronger, but also less accurate." said Lincoln. Corsola's Lure Ball is then teleported to storage.
Lincoln then focuses on having Cottonee simply battle any other Pokemon he catches for experience, and as a result, she learns Mega Drain and Cotton Spore.
"Ready to go, Lincoln?" asked Alola Lana.
"Just one more and I'll be done." said Lincoln. He casts his line into the water and soon gets a bite; he pulls it out, showing a red fishlike Pokemon on the end of it. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Magikarp, the Fish Pokemon. In the distant past, they were fairly strong, but they have become gradually weaker over time." said the Rotom Phone.
"Not a lot of people catch this Pokemon." said Alola Lana. "Most just consider it too weak to be of use."
"Well, that's not very nice." said Lincoln. Magikarp looks over at him with awe.
"I think it likes the fact that you're standing up for its feelings." said Alola Lana.
"Maybe I can help it become stronger." said Lincoln before looking back at Magikarp. "Wanna join up with me?" Magikarp jumps out of the water and into Lincoln's arms.
"I'll bet that's a yes." said Alola Lana with a smile. Lincoln also smiles as he takes a Lure Ball out of his pocket and taps it on Magikarp's forehead, making it open up and suck Magikarp in; the Lure Ball wiggles a few times before clicking. Lincoln looks up his new Pokemon's information on his Rotom Phone.
"This says my Magikarp is a boy, he knows Splash, and Tackle; he has the Swift Swim ability which increases his speed when it's raining." said Lincoln.
After Magikarp's pokeball is transported to storage, the two then head back to shore and Lincoln hops off of Lapras.
"That was fun." said Lincoln.
"I enjoyed it, too." said Alola Lana. "See you tomorrow at school."
"See ya." said Lincoln. While Alola Lana heads back home, Lincoln goes over to the Hau'oli City Pokemon Center and swaps his Clamperl for his Magikarp. He then later calls his family to tell them about his day.
"I'm glad you're having fun there, Lincoln." said Luan.
"Yeah, makes me kind of glad I ended up here because of you." said Lincoln, making Luan look away with shame. "But at least I didn't end up at Aunt Ruth's house."
"At least there's that." said Lori.
"And you made some new friends." said Rita.
"Especially Mallow." said Lola with a smirk, making Lincoln blush.
"Oh, and I'm sending a couple more Pokemon for Lola." said Lincoln.
"Yaay!" cheered Lola.
"And one of them has something for you that I'm certain you'll like." said Lincoln.
"What?" asked Lola.
"You'll see." said Lincoln. He then uses the Pokemon Center's PC to send Clamperl and Corsola over to the Loud house.
In Lisa and Lily's room, the family gather around Lisa's Pokemon Transport System and watch as two Lure Balls appear. Lola grabs them and lets the Clamperl and Corsola out of them.
"I love Corsola's color," said Lola. "But who has the thing for me?"
"It's in Clamperl." said Lincoln. Lola goes over to the blue clam Pokemon.
"Okay, Clamperl; open up." said Lola. Clamperl opens her shell and Lola looks inside to see the Big Pearl, making her eyes widen with glee, and surprising Rita, Lori, and Leni.
"Is that a pearl?!" asked Rita.
"It's so big!" said Leni.
"It's the size of a softball!" said Lynn Jr. Lola clutches the Big Pearl tightly in her hands as she gazes it with delight.
"Thanks, Linky!" said Lola. "And Clamperl's head looks like a pink pearl!"
"Glad you like them." said Lincoln. After the family talks for a bit more, he ends the call and starts heading back towards Iki Town.
Meanwhile at Alola Lana's house, she was just getting back when she sees Harper and Sarah running over to her.
"Alola, you two." said Alola Lana. "Did you two stay out of trouble?"
"Yes, Lana." replied Harper.
"Did you have fun with your boyfriend?" asked Sarah with a smirk.
"HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND!" shouts Alola Lana with a blush before she starts chasing after her sisters while they run as they giggled at her.
