Wela Volcano Park Trial
After getting Lynn's Machop treated at the Royal Avenue Pokemon Center, Lincoln takes Lynn to the PokeMart where she buys ten pokeballs; she also got a free Premier Ball. After that, Lincoln, Lynn, and the rest of the group exited Royal Avenue up north on their way to Wela Volcano Park where Lincoln's next trial awaits him.
"Boy, I hope I have a Pokemon battle with Kalani at the tournament." said Lynn Jr, punching her palm.
"Then you should spend a lot of time training your Pokemon, as well as capture more for your team." said Lincoln.
"Will do." replied Lynn Jr.
The group continues walking until they reach a road leading to a volcano.
"Here we are." said Kiawe.
"So, this is where my next trial is going to be?" asked Lincoln as he looks up at the mountain.
"That's right." said Kiawe.
"Is it safe to do something near a volcano that could erupt?" asked Sharon.
"It's fine." said Kiawe. "The lava at the top is hardened and there's a battle platform built on top of that."
"I hope so." said Sharon.
"Let's get going." said Lincoln. The group makes their way up the trail; as they do, they hear some rustling coming from some nearby brown grass.
"What's that?" asked Shiloh. They all look to see a small bird Pokemon with orange feathers on its head and gray feathers on the rest of its body comes hopping out of it.
"What's that?" asked Shelby. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Fletchling, the Tiny Robin Pokemon. While it's an amiable Pokémon, if you touch it unexpectedly, it will heat up its body in an instant, and you'll be burned." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"You want to try to catch this one, Lynn?" asked Lincoln. "A flying type Pokemon will have an advantage against Kalani's Hawlucha if you go against her at the Battle Royale Tournament."
"Yeah; and like you said, I'll need a variety of Pokemon on my team." replied Lynn, pulling out a pokeball. "Makuhita, you're up!" She throws Makuhita's pokeball and releases her; Fletchling sees Makuhita and begins to hover above the ground.
"Careful, Lynn; flying type Pokemon have an advantge over fighting types." said Lincoln. Fletchling flies at Makuhita with incredible speed and rams her, knocking her back.
"Whoa, that was fast." said Lynn.
"That must've been Quick Attack." said Lincoln.
"Makuhita, Force Palm!" said Lynn. Makuhita runs at Fletchling with an arm back while a white ball of light forms in front of her palm and she thrusts it into Fletchling, knocking it to the ground. As it gets up, it begins to twitch, and static surrounds its body.
"I think Fletchling's paralyzed." said Lincoln. Fletchling was able to fight through its paralysis and flies at Makuhita, pecking her, and dealing super effective damage. "This Pokemon doesn't know when to quit."
"Another reason for me to catch it." replied Lynn. "Okay, Makuhita, use Focus Energy!" Makuhita becomes covered in an orange glow. Fletchling tries to fly at Makuhita, but its paralysis stops it in mid-flight. "Now use Arm Thrust!" Makuhita runs at Fletchling and repeatedly strikes it with her hands, landing a critical hit on it, and knocking it to the ground; it struggles to get up.
"I think it's weak enough for you to catch now, Lynn." said Lincoln.
"Sweet." said Lynn as she takes out an empty pokeball. She throws it at Fletchling and hits it; it gets sucked into the pokeball and after it wiggled around, it clicks.
"You caught Fletchling, Lynn." said Lincoln.
"Yeah!" said Lynn. She and Lincoln began cheering while repeatedly high fiving each other.
"Great work, cuz." said Shane. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and uses it to look up Lynn's new Fletchling.
"This says your Fletchling's a boy, he knows Tackle, Growl, Quick Attack, Peck, Agility, and Flail; he has the Big Pecks ability which prevents his defense from being lowered." said Lincoln. Lynn walks to Fletchling's pokeball and picks it up.
"Welcome to Team Lynn, Fletchling." said Lynn.
"I'm gonna train up my Pokemon before continuing." said Lincoln. "I feel like I haven't done much with them for a while with all the stuff I've been doing recently, and I want them to be ready for the trial."
"I'll train up my Pokemon also." said Lynn.
During the training, Lincoln's Torracat learned Bite, Swagger, and Fury Swipes; his Rufflet learned Slash, his Herdier learned Work Up and Crunch, his Phantump learned Leech Seed and Curse, his Gyarados learned Twister and Ice Fang, and his Lycanroc simply got stronger.
Lynn's Crabrawler learned Power-Up Punch, her Makuhita learned Whirlwind and Knock Off, her Hawlucha learned Encore, her Machop learned Knock Off and Fletchling got stronger. During the training, her Fletchling began to glow.
"Lynn; your Fletchling's evolving!" said Lincoln. Everyone watched as Fletchling began to grow; when he stopped glowing, he now had black and yellow wings, and a pointed crest on the back of his head.
"Sweet!" said Lynn. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at Lynn's newly-evolved Fletchling.
"Fletchinder, the Ember Pokemon, and the evolved form of Fletchling. It scatters embers in the tall grass. Then bug Pokémon, frightened by the flames, come flying out, and Fletchinder gobbles them up." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"This says Fletchinder is now part flying, part fire, he learned Ember when he evolved, and he now has the Flame Body ability which has a chance of burning a Pokemon that attacks him physically." said Lincoln.
"Nice." said Lynn.
"Congratulations, Lynn." said Shelby.
"And since he's part fire now, he should have a resistance to fairy type moves." said Lincoln.
After that, the group continues up the mountain until they reach a gate with a path to the summit going right through it.
"Here we are." said Kiawe. "This is where your next Island Trial will take place, Lincoln."
"So, where's the Trial Captain?" asked Lincoln.
"That would be me." said Kiawe, surprising the Louds. "Don't be so surprised, Lincoln; Lana here was the Trial Captain of the Brooklet Hill Trial."
"I guess that's true." said Lincoln.
"You ready for this, bro?" asked Lynn.
"As ready as I'll ever be." said Lincoln.
"And only Lincoln and I can go up to the top for the trial." said Kiawe to everyone.
"So, we can't watch?" asked Shane.
"Let me try using my Rotom Phone to call your device." said Lincoln as he takes out his Rotom Phone to do so; a few seconds later, Shane's device rings and he answers via video chat and was happy to see that he can see what Lincoln's Rotom Phone was looking at.
"So, we can watch your trial on my device now?" asked Shane.
"That's right." said Lincoln.
"Be sure to record everything so we can show me and Linc's family." said Lynn.
"On it." said Shane as he has his device start doing so.
"I'll have my Rotom Phone fly overhead so you can all get a good view of the trial." said Lincoln.
"Are you ready now?" asked Kiawe.
"I am." said Lincoln.
"Then let's begin." said Kiawe. He and Lincoln then start walking up to the summit; when they reach the top, Lincoln sees the battle platform that Kiawe mentioned earlier.
"Awesome!" said Lincoln.
"Let's get started." said Kiawe. "This trial will test your powers of observation. You will watch a dance followed by an almost-similar one; you are to spot the difference betweent the two dances."
"Okay." said Lincoln.
"To pass the trial, you'll have to successfully do that three times." said Kiawe. "Are you ready?"
"Yes." said Lincoln. Kiawe snaps his fingers and three bipedal Pokemon with black skin and gray bellies, wearing skulls on their heads while holding bones with green fire at the ends of them. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at one of them.
"Marowak, the Bone Keeper Pokemon, and the evolved form of Cubone. The rich greenery of the Alola region is hard on Marowak. It controls fire to stay alive." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"Watch carefully." said Kiawe. Lincoln watches as the three Marowaks dance around then pause; the trio then does a similar dance and stop again. Lincoln looks carefully and sees the diffence in the two dances.
"The middle one is looking up." said Lincoln.
"That's right." said Kiawe. All of a sudden, the middle Marowak steps forward and gets into a battle stance.
"What's it doing?" asked Lincoln.
"You have to battle it." said Kiawe. Lincoln looks at his Rotom Phone at Marowak's information.
"This says its part fire and part ghost." said Lincoln. He takes out his Gyarados' pokeball and tosses it, releasing his Pokemon. His Gyarados glares harshly at his opponent, making it nervous.
"Okay, Gyarados; use Bite!" said Lincoln. Gyarados lunges at the Marowak and bites down hard on it, dealing super effective damage, and making it flinch. "Now use Twister!" Gyarados swings his tail, releasing a glowing twister that sends the Marowak into the air and makes it come crashing down, knocking it out.
"Good work." said Kiawe. "Now your next set of dances."
"I'm ready." said Lincoln. The Marowaks begin dancing around until they paused while holding their bones up; they repeated the dance and stopped again. Lincoln noticed one of the Marowaks was holding its bone down. "That Marowak is holding its bone down instead of up."
"Correct." said Kiawe. Just then, a man wearing a green tank top, green knit cap, beige shorts, black and gray striped socks, and brown shoes steps onto the battle platform. "Now you have to battle this trainer in a Pokemon battle." The man pulls out a pokeball.
"Go, Magmar!" said the man, throwing a pokeball and releasing a bipedal, red and yellow Pokemon with two flames coming out of the back of its head and a tail with fire on the end of it. Lincoln pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Magmar, the Spitfire Pokemon, and the evolved form of Magby. Its entire body is burning. When it breathes, the temperature rises. When it sneezes, flames shoot out!" said the Rotom Phone. Lincoln pulls out a pokeball.
"Lycanroc, go!" said Lincoln, throwing Lycanroc's pokeball and releasing him. "Okay, Lycanroc, use Leer!" Lycanroc glares at Magmar and his eyes glowed blue, weakening Magmar's defense.
"Magmar, use Feint Attack!" said Magmar's trainer. Magmar leaps to the side and disappears; it reappears near Lycanroc and punches him.
"Lycanroc, use Accelerock!" said Lincoln. Lycanroc becomes surrounded by a white aura and he charges at Magmar with incredible speed; he rams into Magmar, dealing super effective damage to it, and knocking it out. "Great job, Lycanroc." Magmar's trainer returns Magmar to its pokeball; he gives Lincoln pokedollars and walks off the platform.
"Well done, Lincoln." said Kiawe. "Now for the final set of dances."
"I'm ready." said Lincoln. The trio of Marowaks do another set of dances while he watches; after the second one, Lincoln sees that a fourth, much larger, Marowak was among the trio. "There's a fourth Marowak."
"That's correct." said Kiawe. The fourth Marowak suddenly flares with Z-Energy.
"Is that Marowak a Totem Pokemon?!" asked Lincoln.
"Yes, and to finish and pass your Island Trial; you have to defeat it." said Kiawe.
"Ready, Lycanroc?" Lincoln asked his orange wolf Pokemon, making him bark in response. The Totem Marowak lets out a cry, making a bipedal, dark gray lizard Pokemon with a purple belly with pink markings run out to join it. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at the newcomer.
"Salazzle, the Toxic Lizard Pokemon, and the evolved form of Salandit. Salazzle lives deep in caves and forces the Salandit it has attracted with its pheromones to serve it." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"Lycanroc, use Crush Claw on Salazzle!" said Lincoln. Lycanroc rushes at the Salazzle and thrusts a claw coated with a blue aura into her belly; she slumps due to Crush Claws' secondary effect of weakening the defense of the Pokemon it hits.
The Salazzle responds by releasing a spray of purple vapor from its mouth.
"Dodge it!" shouts Lincoln. Lycanroc leaps out of the way, dodging the Salazzles attack; but while he was doing that, the Totem Marowak comes out of nowhere and strikes him with its bone club, doing super effective damage. While Lycanrcoc was trying to shake himself back to his senses, the Salazzle sprays bits of fire from her mouth at him, hitting him, but not doing a lot.
"What are you going to do now, Lincoln?" asked Kiawe.
"Keep battling!" said Lincoln.
"Yeah!" said Lynn as she was watching the trial from Shane's device. "Louds never quit!"
"Gotta even the odds." said Lincoln. "Lycanroc, use Accelerock on Salazzle!" Lycanroc moves at fast speed while coated in a white aura, slamming into the Salazzle, and knocking her out.
"Yeah!" cheered Lynn. "One down, one to go!"
"You can do it, Lincoln!" said Shiloh.
"We're cheering for you!" said Shelby.
Back at the battle, Lycanroc and the Totem Marowak were staring each other down.
"Lycanroc, use Bite!" said Lincoln. Lycanroc leaps at the Totem Marowak with his jaws open; a glint appears in it's eyes and it dodges the attack.
"I think that was Detect!" said Alola Lana. The Totem Marowak swings his bone club at Lycanrock.
"Dodge and use Rock Tomb!" said Lincoln. Lycanroc jumps up to avoid the Totem Marowak's attack and drops a bunch of rocks onto it, dealing super effective damage, and lowering its speed. The Totem Marowak bursts out from the rock pile and does a fiery somersault towards Lycanroc and slams into him.
"Use Leer!" said Lincoln. Lycanroc gives the Totem Marowak an icy stare, making it nervous and lowering its defense; the Totem Marowak responds by throwing its bone staff at Lycanroc, hitting it, and doing super effective damage. Lincoln then watches the bone staff come back around towards his Pokemon.
"Jump up, Lycanroc!" said Lincoln. Lycanroc does so and the bone staff misses; while the Totem Marowak was busy catching it, Lincoln sees an opportunity to launch an attack. "Use one more Acclerock!" Lycanroc, one more time, moves quickly at the Totem Marowak and slams into it, dealing enough super effective damage to knock it out.
"He won!" cheered Mallow.
"That was amazing!" said Hau.
"It sure was!" said Shelby.
Back at the battlefield, the Totem Marowak got to its feet and walks over to Lincoln; it holds out a closed hand to him then opens it, revealing a Firium-Z Crystal.
"You have passed the trial, Lincoln." said Kiawe. "Marowak has deemed you worthy to receive the Firium-Z Crystal."
"Awesome!" said Lincoln as he accepts the Z-Crystal.
"Now watch as I demonstrate the poses required to activate it." said Kiawe. He then shows Lincoln what he has to do to activate his new Z-Crystal.
"Thanks, Kiawe." said Lincoln. He and Kiawe head back to the rest of the group who rush over to congratulate Lincoln on his victory.
"You were great, Lincoln!" said Mallow as she threw her arms around Lincoln in a hug, making him blush; giggling from everyone who was watching makes her let go with a blush on her face.
"That was awesome!" said Shiloh.
"Thanks, everyone." said Lincoln.
Lincoln has passed the Wela Volcano Park Island Trial and earned a Firium-Z Crystal. What will he and Lynn do now as their Alola adventures continue?
