Chapter 56- Arizona

I'm not going to lie, that storm scared me, I haven't been through one since the one that brought Callie to me. It's rained, but nothing like that. After dinner we headed home, dad and Alex went to make sure the dogs were ok. The kennel was full, for the weekend, I'm not sure why everyone and their grandma had decided to leave town this weekend, but it's ok, means money for us. We didn't charge much, trying to keep the price lower than others so we'd get the business. Dad had put the word out that we would from now on be accepting strays, cats and dogs. Him and Alex were working on changing one of the storerooms into an area suitable for cats. They were almost done. I haven't been helping with the kennel as much lately, I'd help clean them in the morning, and do the run for food, but other than that, I haven't done much. I'm not sure why. Callie had already gone to bed, and I was just heading in when Sofia stopped me. "Zo"

"yeah" I stopped in front of her door

"I just want to thank you again, for everything" she says when I looked at her I could tell she'd been crying. I give her a smile "it's no problem, if you need anything else" I see her nod, and look away. Hearing a small sniffle, I step into the room "Sofia" my voice is soft "are you ok?"

"yeah, I'm just" she starts to say then stops, I hear her take a deep breath "I just miss my mom"

"I'm sorry" I say sitting down on the bed "is there anything Callie and I can do"

"how about a hug?" her voice was quiet, I almost didn't hear her, I smile "I can do that" leaning over I wrap my arms around her, I feel her shutter in my arms. "I know we aren't your blood family, but everyone here, is here for you"

"I know" Sofia sniffles "thank you" I squeeze her tight and let go, leaning back in placing a kiss on her head. I leave the room, entering our room, Callie is sitting up in bed, waiting for me. "what took you so long?"

"Sofia" I say as I start undressing

"what happened with Sofia"

"she just needed some love"

"oh" Callie says pulling the blanket off her legs so she could stand "I got it" I smiled

"she's ok?"

"well I don't know if she'll ever be, but for now yeah"

"I should go check on her" she says standing up

"you can if you want, but I think she just needs some time to adjust, it hasn't even been 2 days"

"I'm still gonna go check on her" I nod and crawl into bed. Thinking about how quickly the next few weeks are going to go. I had a surprise for Callie, we were going to go away for a honeymoon, just the two of us. I was a little nervous, it hasn't ever been just the two of us, so I hope I don't disappoint her. It wasn't long before Callie was back "she's asleep" she says climbing back into bed, I smile, and slide down in the bed to get comfortable. Callie crawls in and lays her head on my chest. Intertangling our legs, she wraps herself around me, I love this woman, I have never loved anyone, the way I love her. I know in all reality we haven't known each other all that long, but I can't imagine my life without her. "I love you" Callie says, her voice telling me she's already half asleep.

"I love you too" I say kissing the top of her head, and squeezing her tight, yup, no place I'd rather be.
