I was sitting and reading one of Jonathan Gilbert's journals while Anna was still sleeping and Stefan was outside by the dock. I was wearing a pink jacket with a blue polka-dotted dress. Just like the first one that I read, Jonathan Gilbert's writing was so detailed. It made me a little jealous that I couldn't write as well as he did. I supposed I could still draw at least.

Jonathan Gilbert told the story of how he went to the Fells' house for dinner. It seemed like a bit of a mundane detail. I couldn't help but realize that he never mentioned a wife in any of these. I knew that he had a daughter, who was apparently a doppelganger like me, but maybe he was gay. Wait, no, he was in love with Pearl. His wife probably died or something. Anyway, he talked about how Thomas and Honoria were killed by a vampire and then he was. At first, I wondered how someone could write about his own death, but then I remembered his ring as I looked at my finger. I was shocked when I read the name that he used. It was Stefan Salvatore. I looked outside at him in shock.

"What are you doing?" Anna asked as she entered the room. She was still wearing her nightgown. She probably thought that she didn't need to put on clothes if we weren't going to be going anywhere. We might have to go get some food for later, but right now we weren't going anywhere.

"I was just doing some reading." I explained. I then considered that maybe she could help me with my theory. "So, Jonathan mentioned your mother a few times, but he never mentioned any references to a wife. I know that he had to have been married due to his child. Do you have any idea what happened to her?"

"Actually, yes." She answered. I hoped that also meant that she was going to tell it to me. "He told my mother about what happened. She died of tuberculosis. It was pretty much a death sentence if you caught it back then. It was the same disease that Stefan and Damon's mother died of."

"You didn't know his daughter, did you?" I questioned nervously. It would be a little bit weird if she had hooked up with someone who looked like me.

"No, she stayed mostly with her husband." She answered. I couldn't help but wonder how old the girl was, even though I knew people got married a lot younger back then.

"It must have sucked being married at such a young age." I commented. I knew that I wouldn't want to do it…as a guy or a girl. "So do you think that I'm related to her at all?"

"It would be more likely from your father's side than your mother's." She explained. Yeah, that was probably more likely. I still hated both of my parents. It was then that Stefan walked into the house. He still didn't look very happy.

"Are you still mad at me?" I questioned. He didn't really have any reason to be mad at me.

"Yes, I'm still mad at you." He answered. And yet he still was, despite the fact that I hadn't done it intentionally. I didn't want to die. I wanted to keep living. I was not someone who believed in sacrificing myself to save others.

"Stefan, I don't know what else I say other than that I'm sorry." I pointed out. "I won't let Elijah kill me if that's what you want. I'm not going to apologize for trying to protect my friends and family though. I just thought that he was going to protect me from harm as well as the rest of you."

I would do anything else to protect them as long as it didn't mean that I would be killed. I probably would even get injured for them as long as I didn't die.

"What does Jonathan Gilbert have to say about this?" He inquired looking at the book in my hand. I couldn't help but wonder what that had to do with anything, since it wasn't really relevant to our conversation.

"He says that you killed him." I replied. Stefan didn't look surprised by that, so I figured that it must have been true. "Why didn't you ever tell me about that?"

"Damon and I were angry at the Founding Families for what they did to Katherine." He explained. I still couldn't believe that they cared about her. Anna scoffed at him, as if she was saying that revenge wasn't the best option. It was also true that Katherine didn't warrant their desire for vengeance, since not only was she not dead or in the tomb, but she also didn't deserve it either.

"He made it sound like you were vicious, like a monster." I explained as he took a seat on the other side of me. I felt a little bit nervous, but I let him sit there as he touched my arm.

"I was." He confirmed. That was something that I never thought that I would hear about Stefan. "When I first changed, I didn't have a lot of humanity. I tried to be as disconnected from as possible. I would invite women over and compel them before I killed them. Bodies would decorate the house like furniture."

"You made it sound like you were Damon." I commented. Also, that simile didn't really make sense, unless people were sitting on the dead bodies or something.

"No, I was much worse than Damon and Damon, well he was more like me." He told us. That was something that would have been interesting to see. I probably wouldn't want to see it because as he said, he was a monster and that wouldn't be good for me, even if my ring prevented me from being killed.

"You know, I never found out what you did after 1864." I said to Anna. I really wanted to hear a lot more about her life since I really didn't know much about her past other than the fact that she was very old.

"I did what my mother and Emily had told me and ran." She explained. I wanted to listen intently to her. "I wanted to get as far away as possible. I was not too thrilled about having to wait 145 years to see her again, but I didn't plan on getting revenge because I thought that it would be a good way to get killed. I probably would have been a lot more reckless if Emily hadn't told me about the tomb. Anyway, to answer your question, I went to California."

"It must have been cool to see it before all of the craziness took over." I commented. I also couldn't help but wonder if Anna was throwing shade at Stefan when she said that she hadn't sought revenge. I didn't think that she was doing it intentionally because that would be pretty rude.

"The land was beautiful back then. It still looks pretty good today, but it was much better." She confirmed. I do wish that I had been able to go back in time and see it. "But I think Stefan really wants to tell you a story and you should let him do the talking."

"I'm sorry." I apologized to him with a blush. "You can continue."

"Well like I said, Damon was more interested in us surviving than revenge and savoring being a vampire." He continued. That was hard to imagine. I couldn't but wonder at what point Damon had changed. "He told me that he was going to abandon me and that was when I decided to turn it all off."

"I keep hearing that phrase, but I don't really know what it means." I admitted. I wished that they had explained it better to me.

"A vampire has the ability to shut off their emotions." Anna explicated. How did they do that though? "It's mostly caused by traumatic events where they don't want to feel anymore. I've never personally come to the point where I had to, but I could see why others did it. One advantage I've heard is it allows you to think completely rationally. You can make the most logical decision without having emotions get in the way, but the result also can be very monstrous."

"Is that what you were like?" I asked Stefan. I hoped that Anna would never do it because I didn't want to know what she would be like without any sort of emotions. I liked her the way that she was.

"Well one advantage for me is it stopped being about revenge and I just wanted to feed." He stated. That didn't sound that much better. In fact, it might have been worse. At least there was some sort of rationale to killing the Founder Families. "However, the logic was not something that I used."

"How did you get away with all of it?" I questioned. I didn't see how he could kill so many people without anyone noticing it.

"There was a war going on." He reminded me. Oh yeah, lots of people were dying but it was still a little hard to believe. "One thing that I would do was go to barracks and feed from already dying soldiers. I figured that I was doing them a favor since they likely wouldn't live anyway. During one of the nights, I saw a woman in a cloak and decided that she would be my next victim. That's how I met Lexi."

"Lexi, as in your best friend Lexi?" I questioned. I then realized that he didn't know any other Lexis, or at least didn't mention them. It was a bit surprising that she would choose to be friends with him considering that he tried to eat her.

"Alexia Branson was what she was known as then." He stated. "She had heard Mystic Falls was a great place for vampires. She had no idea of the massacre. I took her home so she would have a place to stay for the night. Once she got there, she was appalled at the state of the house."

"I imagine that any normal person would be." Anna quipped. We both glared at her. That was uncalled for. "Sorry."

"She vowed to change me for the better and get me to feel." Stefan continued. Okay, so she chose to be friends with him because he tried to eat her. That was still pretty weird. "Over the new few months, she tried to get me to feel anything. She did have success and got me to turn it all on…"

"Are you okay?" I asked, noticing that he looked like he was about to cry.

"Talking about her makes me think about…" He trailed off. I assumed that he meant it made him think about how Damon killed her. He didn't seem like he was still mad at Damon for it at least. Had he just accepted that Damon killed people at this point. That was basically what I had done because I didn't think that I would be able to be around him otherwise.

I wasn't entirely sure what the purpose of the story was. To my knowledge, Stefan didn't think that I actually wanted to die. I didn't have a death wish and I didn't want to be a martyr. It seemed like no seemed to get that. I'm 16 fucking years old. What person my age would want to give up their life like that? Maybe if it was a spur of the moment decision and it was the only choice, I would sacrifice myself, but as far as I knew, Klaus didn't even know about my existence. Elijah didn't even know until Rose told him.

I decided that I needed some time to myself so I would take a bath. It had been a long time since I had had time to take one. I filled the tub to the brim and then disrobed before getting in the water. The warmth of it felt nice as it was touching my body. It felt like somewhere that I could just fall asleep in. I also felt nice to fully stretch out. I poured some soap in and then leaned my head back before I fell into a slumber.

"Mary, are you okay in there?" Anna asked, knocking on the door and snapping me awake. I looked around. "You've been in there a while."

"Yeah, I'm fine." I told her. "Yeah, I just fell asleep."

"No." She replied as she came into the bathroom. She seemed to be telling the truth. "So do you want to get some dinner after you're dressed?"

"Yeah, I guess so." I replied. "Do you think you can hand me a robe?"

"Sure." She replied as she gave me a pink bathrobe. I then stepped out. It was something of my mom's. It felt a little bit weird wearing my mom's clothes because I never thought that I would be able to wear my mom's clothes.

"Can I have some privacy to dry off?" I questioned. I knew that she had already seen everything under the robe, but we weren't together, so I had a right to privacy.

"Sorry." She apologized with a blush. I was pretty sure that she had moved on because she was dating Tina now. I also had no plans to become a vampire in the near future either.

After I was dressed, we went out to eat. It was kind of early, but we needed to go early as to not get caught up in Easter crowds. Stefan didn't come with. I did miss not being able to have an Easter dinner though. I figured that doing it with my parents would be too weird. I did wonder what they were doing back home. Was there going to be a big Easter dinner or was everyone just going to blow it off? I could see either one happening. I was a little surprised how not busy the restaurant was, but I supposed that not a lot of people lived out here. I also preferred it not being busy because it meant that we didn't have to wait very long for our food.

Once we got back to the lake house, I decided to open up one of the journals. I opened it to a page and found something useful.

"Hey, Jonathan researched the Originals." I replied. I couldn't help but think that that was very convenient. I did wonder how he managed to find out such information, especially in 1864. Were there books about them and if so, how had he gotten the information on them? "The wood from one tree and one tree alone could kill an Original. When the tree burned down, all hope was thought to be lost, until it was discovered that a silver dagger dipped in the ash of the tree could neutralize them. I wonder if this dagger exists."

"I know it exists." Anna stated. "I've seen them before."

"Damon has one that he's planning on using on Elijah." Stefan added. What had they not told me? However, I felt that there was a bigger issue at the moment.

"But Damon can't use it because it will kill him." Anna remarked.

"It will bring death to any demon who wields it." I read. I couldn't help but wonder if Anna was speaking from experience as she had seen someone use one, but it probably wasn't worth taking a chance on.

"John is trying to get Damon killed." Stefan replied as he ran into another room frantically. The fact that John was doing that really didn't surprise me. I wondered if he would see any repercussions for such a thing.

"Stefan, what did you do?" I asked as I entered the room. I needed to figure out what the two of them were up to. I also had a feeling that it was more than just the two of them. "Just because you're mad at me doesn't mean that you have the right to make these decisions without me."

"Don't you see that we're trying to save you?!" He responded. I just stormed out of the room. He didn't get it that I didn't like not being involved in their plans. This was the second time that they had decided on something without me, and it really pissed me off. The only good news was that I was pretty sure that Anna was not involved in it this time. I was beginning to question if Stefan and I should still be together.

A few minutes later, Stefan came over to me. I hoped that he was going to apologize to me for planning things with me.

"So, Elijah's dead. Alaric was the one who used the dagger." He explained. I was glad that Damon wasn't dead, but I was not happy that they had done it without me. Minutes later, we got a text saying that he wasn't dead anymore. That was not good. Damon quickly rushed over with the dagger. He seemed to think that Elijah would come to get me. I was also pretty sure that he would not be happy about being stabbed in the back. Damon really needed to stop doing it. We had already seen what happened with Mason. Though, to be fair, he might have betrayed them anyway considering that he was working with Katherine. Anyway, now we needed to figure out what to do about Elijah.

"I can't believe that you went through with this without me!" I yelled. I was extremely pissed off and now I would have to be the one to talk to Elijah. I might have even been able to talk to him to get him to explain his plan to me, but I was pretty sure that he wasn't going to do that now.

"There will be more time for you to be pissed later." Damon explained. "Elijah will probably be here soon. He's probably on his way. Take this since you're the only one who can use it."

I wasn't sure how he was going to figure out where I was, but I imagined that he would have his ways. He had somehow found me at Slater's apartment so maybe he was tracking me. Maybe Luca and his dad were helping him out with that.

It wasn't long before the door flew open. I looked over to see a very pissed off Elijah. I would have to do my best to try to calm him down.

"I'm sorry about what my friends did to you." I stated. I didn't know if I was any good at this. "They did it without consulting me first."

"That is not of any concern to me." Elijah replied. I was pretty sure that it wasn't working. "The deal is off and even though I can't come in, I can wait out here, because you will run out of food eventually."

"You know I'm willing to keep the deal." I stated. I thought maybe that I could convince him to talk to me. "I'll come with you, as long as you don't hurt them."

"I'm not falling for that." He replied. He seemed to think that I was playing him.

"Well then I'll make you come in." I stated as I held up a knife. I knew it was going to hurt, but it wouldn't kill me. "I'll stab myself and you'll be forced to come in here and heal me, but I won't let you unless you honor our deal."

"I'm going to call your bluff. Your friends will never let you do that." He remarked. I took a deep breath and plunged the knife into my belly, cursing in pain. It hurt a lot. I would need to be healed soon. "Okay, the deal's on. Just let me heal you."

"Give me your word." I demanded.

"You have my word." He stated before I invited in him in, and I stabbed him with the dagger in the heart. He fell to the ground and then Anna fed her blood into my mouth. I took a deep breath as the wound healed itself. I hoped that I would never have to do that again.

"A little tip: the dagger needs to stay in." Damon commented. I was pretty sure that we had already figured that out. There was no reason to say it.

"Now we need to talk about this." I replied. "You know that I'm not looking to die. If we're going to beat Klaus, we need to be on the same page. So that's why I'm appointing myself leader in this. I need to know that you won't do anything without telling me first."

"I can definitely agree to that." Anna remarked. "For the record, I would like to say that I was never on board with this plan to begin with, nor did I even know that that it was happening?"

I was glad that she didn't know about it. Did they not trust her anymore since she was related to the Originals?

"Fine." Stefan added. At least we were all on the same page now. At least I was pretty sure that we were. I looked over to Damon.

"What are you going to do if I say no?" Damon replied. I really did not have any patience for him to be difficult at the moment.

"Damon, if you're my friend, you'll agree to this." I stated.

"You just had to pull out the friend card." He muttered. "Fine, I'm in."

So now Elijah has been captured and the gang have no plan. At least Mary is okay for now. Please don't forget to review.
