The land of Westeros is filled with thousands of stories and legends. Some depicting tales of giants or of people with great magic. Throughout the continents thousands of years of history, the amount of these legends of only grown. However, these legends only remained legends. There was however one mythical creature that proved to be real, demons.

Demons are monsters that come out in the night to feast on the flesh of people. These monsters possess inhuman strength and are able to regrow whole limbs in seconds. Some of these demons have been said to even wield powerful blood magic. The most frightening fact about demons is that they were all once humans. All it took was a few drops of blood to transform them into monsters.

The first demons appeared during the Age of Heroes, when Bran the Builder was exploring the vast North. The legends tell of how they would strike in the night and were able to devour entire villages. No matter how hard they tried, the humans were no match for them. Their steel shattered upon the demon's skin, and no matter how fast they ran they could never escape. The only place that was safe were those around weirwood trees. For some reason, the demons never went near the trees. Even with the protection of the weirwood the humans were stilled greatly outmatched. That was until Bran made a shocking discovery.

Bran found himself facing off against a demon as dawn was approaching. He had managed to pin the demon against a tree with his great sword. As the demon fought to free himself, it failed to notice the rising sun. The moment the light came into contact with the demon, it was reduced to ash.

It was at this moment the humans realized that the demons could be killed, that they had a chance. Although daytime didn't last forever, so they needed to find another way. And that solution was nichirin steel. A special metal that can be crafted into any weapon. More importantly, when it cuts off the head of a demon, it kills the beast. There are some that say that nichirin was gifted to the Northerners by the children of the forest; there is no evidence supporting it.

And so began the battle, the humans vs the demons. Even with their numbers, the humans struggled against the demons. But with combined efforts, the Northerners prevailed. However, another problem would soon occur. While the Northerners were busy fighting the demons, they failed to notice that some slipped past them and made it south. There they caused even more pain and suffering.

Years had passed before proper action was taken. Men from all across Westeros, from Dorne to the North, came together. These men had one goal on their minds, to rid the Seven Kingdoms of demons. It was here a new guild was formed, one who's sole purpose was to protect the people from demons. It was here the Demon Slayer Corp was born.

For hundreds of years the Corp stood tall, and for hundreds of years they prevailed. The war they waged managed to subdue to the rising threat of the demons. The Corp remained true to their duties and stayed out of conflict between the kingdoms. Even as Aegon the Conqueror arrived on dragon back, they were quick to bend the knee and prove they were not a threat to him.

However when the Dance of the Dragon occurred, there was chaos among the order. Members of noble families fled to aid their families, those loyal to them would follow soon. As a result, the Corp was nearly destroyed in the crossfire and the demons thrived. As payment to the Corp, they were gifted the castle of Harrenhal to use as their new headquarters. With the mighty keep, they were able to restore their numbers and return stability to the realm.

There has always been people who sought out to make the Demon Slayer Corp theirs, for their own army. The members of the Corp had stayed out of affairs and remain loyal to their duty. The Corp will always be a symbol of unity, where everyone is equal. Everyone from the highest born noble to the lowest peasant to even a bastard. Even women are permitted within their ranks.

What would happen if a certain bastard sought out to join the Corp?

(scene change)

Jon Snow, the bastard born son to Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell. A bastard is a child born from parents who are not married, in this case Lord Stark and an unknown mother. Jon never knew his mother, no one did in fact. He doesn't know if she was a fisherman's wife, or a servant girl, or even a whore. Whenever he would ask him, he simply turned away.

Unlike most bastards, Jon grew up in the halls of Winterfell alongside his half siblings, his father's true children. Jon couldn't complain thought for he grew up in a castle, trained under a master of arms, was fed well, and taught how to read and write. The luckiest a bastard usually gets is becoming a servant to their lordly father.

Living in Winterfell did have its downsides, mainly Catelyn Stark. She was Ned Stark's wife, the mother of his children, of Jon's siblings. To most people she was a kind and gentle woman, to Jon she always looked at him with hatred. To her Jon was always a reminder of how her husband was once unfaithful to her. She wanted nothing more than to see him gone, but no matter how much she tried to convince Ned, he would never send him away.

Today was a different day, for she would finally be getting her wish. It had not been long ago when Jon had turned 13. That means that this day has finally arrived.

Jon was in his chambers, packing his possessions into a trunk. A long journey awaited him, and it would be an even longer time before he could return to Winterfell. Today he was finally old enough to embark on his journey and start his training to become a demon slayer.

He may have grown up alongside the rest of the Starks, but he would never be a true Stark. He would never be lord of Winterfell or inherit a holdfast like his brothers. Jon would need to make a name for himself, he considered joining the Night's Watch and taking the black. But another solution came to him in the form of his uncle.

Benjen Stark, a member of the Demon Slayer Corp. Not only was he a member, but a hashira. The hashira, also known as the pillars in common tongue, were the highest ranked members of the group, revered for their skills with a sword and knowledge in the field. His uncle had happened to hold the title of the Moon Hashira. It was he who convinced Jon to join the Corp from all of his stories of facing off against demons and prevailing. He had agreed to take Jon under his wing when he reached the age of 13, and that time had come now.

As Jon was packing his items, he heard the door behind him creak open. He turned around and saw his two younger siblings there, Arya and Bran. These two always looked up to Jon as if he was their real brother, which angered their mother. However, her scolding never stopped them from interacting with him.

"Is it true" asked his sister Arya. "Are you leaving already?"

"Uncle Benjen wishes to leave as soon as possible. That way we can start our training quicker." replied Jon. Benjen had showed up last night, wearing his black uniform with his nichirin broad sword at his side. That night a feast was held in his honor; as they ate, he recited tales of the various monsters he has slayed. But the festivities had now come into an end, and it was time to depart.

"Are you really going to become one? Old Nan said that demon slayers were the strongest warriors all across the Seven Kingdoms. Even the women were tough." Bran stated. The boy of six often dreamt of growing up to be a legendary warrior. Like the legendary Dragonknight, Aemon Targaryen, or the famous Water Hashira, Duncan the Tall. "I heard that most people die during the test. That they force you into a place filled with demons and leave you to fend for yourself." he said filled with worry.

"You worry too much Bran." Arya said sharply. " Jon is going to be trained by our uncle, and he is one of the strongest demon slayers there is."

"And hopefully I'll become stronger than him one day." said Jon. Jon put the last of his belongings in his trunk and closed is. With that he had everything he needed and was ready to depart. He turned to face his younger siblings.

"The next time you all see me, I'll be a member of the Demon Slayer Corporation. I'll be dressed in all black with a nichirin sword at my side.". There was a short silence before Arya and Bran jumped onto Jon. Jon wrapped his arms around them and hugged the two tightly. To be honest Jon himself was unsure if he would return alive.

(scene change)

Jon was saddling up his horse, preparing for the journey that awaited him. His uncle was off taking to his father, addressing any last issues before they would leave. Jon heard footsteps coming from behind and turned around, coming face to face with his half-brother Rob.

"So, leaving are you?" his brother asked, his face stoic like their father. "How are you feeling?"

To be honest Jon was considering his options. There was no real place for him here at Winterfell, but the Demon Slayer Corp would be even more treacherous. He could back down now and save himself the trouble. He would be called a cower of course and mocked by most. He would however be able to stay alive alongside his siblings. Jon eventually responded to Rob; his tone unaffected by his doubts. "Leaving is harder than I imagine."

"For me too." said Rob. "Have you said goodbyes to the others?"

"Arya and Bran were saddened to see me go, Sansa could care less about me, and Rickon was with your mother." said Jon. He would have liked to Rickon one more time, but he knew well that Catelyn wouldn't have permitted it.

"Sansa may be more like our mother, but she doesn't hate you." Rob responded, he then smiled at Jon. "The next time I'll see you, you'll be in all black."

Jon forced himself to smile back. "It has always been my color. How long do you think it will be?"

"Soon enough." Rob promised. He pulled Jon to him and embraced him fiercely. "Farwell Snow."

Jon hugged him back. "And to you as well Stark. Take care of yourself."

"If anyone should be saying that it's me." said Rob as the two broke apart and looked at each other awkwardly.

Soon after that Uncle Benjen came in with his horse ready to go. Benjen had on the uniform of the Demon Slayer Corp. It consisted of trousers with leather boots and a wool tunic, all of which was black. The fabric used to make the uniforms was of a special kind, being durable yet comfortable to wear. Even in the harsh snows of the North or the sweltering heat of the south. Over his uniform he had on a long coat with the sigil of House Stark sewn on the back. This was something done traditionally by members of the Corp who were apart of noble houses.

Moon Hashira-Benjen Stark

Even with Benjen being ready to depart, Jon still had one last person he needed to say goodbye to. His father, Ned Stark, strolled up beside him. "It's a noble thing you are doing. A Stark has always served in the Corporation since the beginning." he said to Jon.

Even though the two were talking, they didn't turn to face each other. "I'm not a Stark, only a Snow." Jon said in a tone similar to Ned.

"That may be, but my blood flows through your veins and every Stark before me. You may be a bastard. but you are still my son." Ned said firmly.

Ned put his hand on Jon's shoulder, as much as Jon hated to admit it felt nice. Jon turned his head and looked at his father in the eyes. "Thank you, father. I promise, this won't be the last you see of me."

Jon walked back to his horse and mounted it; Benjen came riding right up to him. He looked Jon dead in the eye. "Last chance, if you wish to stay here then now is the time to tell me. Once we ride through those gates, there is no turning back. For the next few months, you'll be subjected to intense training, and I won't hold back on you." he stated firmly.

"I'm ready." Jon said without a second thought or any hesitation.

Benjen merely nodded as the two riders kicked their horses into a gallop and rode off away from Winterfell. As they got further from the castle, their images started to fade away. There were those who watched the two depart, unsure if either of them would return again.

There we go the Prologue is now completed. I hoped you all enjoyed it. See ya next time!
