The Equalizer

Ch.1

[ A woman in a fancy dress and heels is running for her life frantically looking around during the night. She runs into a gate and tries to break through it. A man in a black hood comes out of a white van and then grabs her. She screams as she's carried away.]

Robyn knelt at the edge of her toilet retching and depositing vomit into the toilet.

Aunt Vi knocked on the door, "Robyn are you ok?"

"Yeah auntie I'm good," Robyn choked out.

"I'm going to make you some chicken soup," Aunt Vi said nodding.

Dee walked into the kitchen dressed in her casual but cute outfit. "Hi auntie where's mom?"she asked helping herself to some coffee.

Aunt Vi stirred the chicken soup on the stove. "Oh the poor thing seems to have a stomach bug, that's why I'm making this homemade soup." She gestured to the pot.

Just then Robyn entered the kitchen looking slightly pale.

"Hey auntie."

"Hey Robyn."

"Whoo is that chicken soup that I smell?"

"Just for you and coming right up."

"I could use a bowl of soup."

Robyn then turned her attention to Dee.

"Where are you going looking so cute?"

"Hey mom. Mel and I are going shopping today."

"That sounds fun enjoy yourself. Wait, are you trying to impress a boy?"

"I had that same thought," Aunt Vi chimed.

"Maybe," Delilah said playfully.

"Mom are you feeling any better?"

"Not quite but I'll get there," Robyn said putting a hand on her stomach.

Aunt Vi put a bowl of soup on the table in front of Robyn. "Just what the doctor ordered," she handed Robyn a spoon.

Robyn began to eat her soup when she got a message from Harry.

"Oh. I got to go just got a message from Harry," Robyn said.

"Not with your condition. Eat your soup first." Aunt Vi crossed her arms and wagged her index finger.

"Ok. Because you said so auntie."

"And let me take your temperature," Aunt Vi said getting the thermometer from the first aid kit.

"Being sick is a dog," Robyn said.

In the bar a middle aged White woman sat wringing her hands. "My daughter Bathsheba hasn't been seen in days. She has these friends that she likes to go to clubs with and this terrible boyfriend. I just know he had something to do with it. The middle aged woman showed Robyn the picture of her daughter with her friends and boyfriend. Her boyfriend has a lot of gold chains and a black beanie on his head.

"Don't worry we'll find your daughter," Robyn said assuredly.

In the lab Harry looked into his computer "So security cams around this club called The Velvet Rope puts Bathsheba in the back parking lot where she starts running from this guy; Renaldo Reyes who's been arrested for DUIs, Drug possession and spent some time in prison for gun trafficking."

"Gun trafficking huh? He has quite the rap sheet." Robyn gagged and then made her way to a trash can in the lab.

"Holy Moses Rob. Are you ok?"

"I'm just not feeling that well but I think it's just a twenty-four hour flu, but it'll pass."

"Maybe we should rain check and I have Mel do some of the investigating."

"No, I'm up for the challenge," Robyn said before throwing up again. Robyn thought to herself "I haven't been this sick since I was pregnant with Delilah. Immediately her mind went to the weekend where Donte visited and they ate at a fancy restaurant before going to his hotel. Then there was the week before where she had the "casual dinner" with Miles.

Mel got Robyn some ginger ale from the bar. "Rob you should go to urgent care or at the very least go home and get some rest." She said with concern.

"I can't there's a woman who needs my help. I just need to put something light on my stomach and I'll be good as new."

Robyn got up to leave, she walked five steps and then passed out/

Robyn woke up in a bed at Mel and Harry's place.

"What happened? Robyn asked.

"You passed out on your way out."

"Oh."

"Rob you can afford one day of rest while I take the lead on this one."

"Alright just this once," Robyn said.

Later at the at the drugstore Robyn went up the aisles until she reached the pregnancy tests. She picked up one and paid for it at the register.

At home nobody was there which was perfect because it gave her privacy.

As she waited for the test's results she couldn't help but think of the two men in her life and how she couldn't pick between either of them in general, and now she could be in even bigger mess.

When the timer for the test rang, Robyn tentatively went toward the test. She crept towards it like it had an alarm system then picked it up sure enough there was a plus sign on the test.

"Yu have got to be kidding me," she said flatly.
