-๑-๑ ஜ ๑-Chapter 45: Kidnapping done right -๑ ஜ ๑-๑-
Shinra.
That was the first thought that popped into Shizuo's mind.
He had no idea where Izaya's sisters were- hell, he couldn't even remember their age.
But Shinra was sure to know both.
Storming up the stairs leading to the young doctor's apartment. Worry and concern still rendered Shizuo's mind numb as all he could think of was Izaya back at the police station.
That officer called Vincent looked nowhere near like a guy that would refrain from using violence.
Just thinking about what he might be doing to Izaya right now to make him confess caused Shizuo's blood to boil.
It made him want to turn around, run back to that damned building and tear the entire place down.
To hell with reason, to hell with acting according to the police's wishes.
But he couldn't.
Not yet.
With three quick flicks Shizuo knocked at the door. Izaya's sisters were still in danger.
If he returned without surefire proof they were safe he would never hear the end of it.
A soft creak broke the numbing silence in the hallway as the entrance finally opened.
There he was, Shinra.
"Shinra, where-"
"Tony! What a surprise!"
…
Tony?
Fuck.
Body instantly tense Shizuo glanced past the doctor. Shadows of people and a weird device on top of the desk was visible for but a second before Shinra moved.
His eyes were serious - dozens of questions merged with worry sprang to Shizuo's face.
Shinra was still being surveilled.
"What about the movie? Did you like it?" Shinra suddenly asked and it took the blond a minute to catch up on their farce.
Right.
The hero.
"Yeah, it was better than I expected. In the end everyone was saved and the hero got the girl," Shizuo quickly lied, trying to come up with something that would make Shinra understand without having the police catch on.
A never seen amount of relief washed away the worry and soreness of Shinra's expression as he nodded quickly.
"Yeah, yeah, that's what I hoped," he laughed, taking his glasses off for a moment to wipe at the corners of his glassy eyes.
Quickly clearing his throat he put them back on.
"As you can see today I'm quite busy, so…" Shinra faded out, his eyes flicking to his back as he indicated that the police were going to stay even longer.
"...actually-" Shizuo quickly spurred to word, "I wanted to ask you for another recommendation." The doctor's ears perked and his expression grew tense.
"Ah, I see. What kind of movie are you thinking of?"
What kind-
Hell, Shizuo wasn't stupid, but nowhere near as smart as Izaya and Shinra. How was he supposed to ask about Izaya's sisters without asking?
"A family comedy maybe," he mumbled slowly, hoping Shinra would catch onto his real intentions.
The young doctor hummed, then nodded to himself.
"And the main protagonists are two brothers?"
Two-
What?
A frown spread across his forehead.
"No, rather-"
Wait.
And suddenly chills chased each other down his spine.
Izaya had no brother. Shinra was talking about Kasuka.
He didn't think about him at all.
He needed to warn him. Not because he was connected to Izaya per se, but it wouldn't take long until they drew a connection to Shizuo and then-
"Ah, then maybe you want to see something with a female lead for once?" Shinra quickly continued as the conversation was growing stall and slow- in other words suspicious.
Catching onto the meaning Shizuo quickly nodded, "Exactly but where is it-"
"Hey." A shadow loomed over Shinra's back as one of the officers approached the doctor from behind. "Who are you?"
Shit-
"Tony," Shizuo quickly said, giving his best to hide the urgency he felt in his legs.
The officer's face scrunched into annoyance as he sighed.
"Again? We already told you he is busy at the moment." Swiftly reaching into his pocket the officer drew his badge. Seeing as he was undercover it was the only way to confirm his orders. "Get lost."
Shit.
Shizuo couldn't just walk off.
He still needed to know where Izaya's sisters were.
"Are you in trouble Shinra?" he asked with real concern in his voice.
"Nono, I'm just an eye witness. They are making sure I stay safe, right?" Shinra quickly rambled, obviously overwhelming the officer in his quick change of sharade.
"... right."
This was nowhere near enough-
leaving was no option, and doing so without asking questions was weird as well.
"Woah, what did you see?" Shizuo tried again, faking overall excitement, but the officer was quick to react as he shoved Shinra back inside the apartment.
"That's highly confidential. I'm sorry but we have to ask you to kindly leave."
Tsk-
"... of course."
And suddenly Shinra waved-
"See you at school, Tony!" giving that one important hint.
School.
It was afternoon- Shizuo didn't think they would still be there, he had thought they were at home and that Shinra would give him some kind of address.
Eyes stale and expression tense the officer stared at Shizuo.
"Yeah, you can fetch me from work to make up." The blond quickly reacted, pretending to be a teacher in his mind.
But the officer's stare remained. Unwavering. Piercing.
He noticed something.
Shizuo was terribly aware of that fact as soon as he met his eyes.
Slowly, as if backing away from a wild animal he made his way down the first flight of stairs.
From the side he could spot the guy turning to face one of his colleagues.
Glances were exchanged, quick words exchanged- and then they moved.
"Hey you, wait!" And Shizuo ran-
Teo, three steps at a time the blond jumped down the rails. Echoes of yelled commands hallowed in the narrow space as Shizuo turned to an emergency door.
His mind wasn't even working- if he had been Izaya he would have thought about the possibility of more officers being in standby down at the apartment complexes entrance- but fact was he wasn't smart.
He just had a good instinct- and it was that instinct that led him out onto the fire ladder in what must have been a decision making of half a second.
Hands grasping onto the iron rods he made his way down into an alley. The trash can protested angrily when the blond's weight dropped into its surface with full force.
It was loud but thankfully the city was louder.
Blue and red light flashed past the road and for a moment Shizuo's heart stopped.
"Shit-"
He didn't even know what they wanted from him, what they wanted to charge him for- but getting caught was no option.
With Izaya already retained on suspicions of being an incubus he didn't want to know just what would happen if they accused him of the same. But the light drove past as fast as it had appeared and the blond breathed a sigh of relief.
It was a race against time.
Who found them first?
Flicking out his phone the blond pressed the speed dial to the only relative he had left.
A surprised Kasuka greeted upon connecting, "What happened? Where are you?" Shizuo haud bailed the day before, with Izaya half dying, clearing a huge misunderstanding and the interrogation the last thing on his mind had been to call his brother.
He owed him an explanation but right now was not the time.
"Kasuka, take your fiance and leave the country. Now," Shizuo said quickly, the phone already leaving his ear.
"What-"
Snapped in half the device met the ground. Shizuo couldn't afford being tracked.
Eyes vigilant he stepped out onto the main road. Traffic was traversing in spades. It was rush hour, people wanted to go home as fast and as efficient as possible.
Honking resounded from a traffic light nearby and a car came to a standstill right next to Shizuo.
Perfect.
Grasping the opportunity by its roots the blond flung the door open and slipped into the passenger's seat.
A scream let loose by the woman driving the car.
"Shut up or I will give you something to scream for-!" Shizuo barked, slamming the door shut.
He was behaving like a criminal on the run- but wasn't that what he was?
Red and blue flashed past Shizuo's eyes as he quickly ducked in his seat.
"Hey, you-" he said, but was cut off halfway by tears.
quicering in fear
"Please don't kill me!" the woman sobbed, her long brown hair falling in her face as her palms tended on the steering wheel.
She was quivering in fear.
Guilt made its entrance as Shizuo lowered his voice.
"... I won't kill you," he assured quickly. It wasn't his intention to scare the woman. "Sorry, I just need to get somewhere, okay?"
He tried and it must have been something about his voice or expression, but when the woman turned to look at the stranger her expression relaxed a little.
She nodded, albeit slowly and switched gears as the traffic light had turned to green.
A shaking breath escaped Shizuo's lips as the car moved away from the police.
The woman seemed a little less scared.
Of course what did he expect? Just randomly hijacking a car, it was only natural that she feared for her life.
"Raira academy, bring me there and you will never see me again." He whispered softly, his eyes skimming the road for any police sirens.
It was when the woman's phone vibrated underneath his thighs that Shizuo noticed he had been sitting on it.
Taking the device he pulled it to his face.
"Can I?" he questioned, apparently surprising the women a little as she glanced at the phone then at Shizuo with perplexion.
Slowly she nodded and Shizuo was glad to find the phone unlocked.
Quickly he typed Izaya's surname. He was searching for news on the two siblings. Or in general news about the "Dangerous incubus on the run".
Shizuo had never taken any particular interest in the law or the regulations concerning incubus- but right now he wished he did.
He felt oddly lost without Izaya by his side.
He would know what to do, what to say.
Turning sharply at a corner, Shizuo held onto the door.
"Not so fast-" he quickly said, causing the woman to flinch.
"Sorry-!"
She was scared and obviously trying to get her dangerous stranger to his destination as fast as possible.
Glancing through the glass the blond blinked.
He knew this part of the city quite well. The school wasn't far.
"Thanks, you can stop here," he announced, opening the door in a low tempo zone. Surprised by the quick action she hit the brakes. Quickly without wasting another moment the blond slipped out of his seat, "Sorry for the scare."
Doubt flashed across the woman's expression as her gaze followed Shizuo as he disappeared into an alley.
Shizuo knew the streets here better than his own back pocket. He had lived in the area when he was still a small child, and his current flat was not too far off either.
Quickly turning by a corner he entered the school ground. It was the backside. Only a few kids were still there, playing soccer it seemed while a teacher watched them from the side.
Glance directing towards Shizuo the teacher frowned as she moved over.
Not giving her the chance to complain about why Shizuo had entered the school grounds he quickly interrupted.
"Excuse me-" he announced quickly, hurrying his steps up as he approached the teacher.
Put off, the woman blinked. "Yes?"
"I'm looking for Mairu and Kururi Orihara."
The teacher hesitated for a moment but recognized the names.
"We tried to reach their guardian, but no one picked up."
Good. She didn't know about Izaya yet.
"I know, I'm here to pick them up in his stead," Shizuo quickly explained, giving his best and most assuring smile.
But the teacher wasn't easily fooled.
"And you would be….?" She faded out. Distrust swayed in every syllable spoken.
"A friend of the family." Shizuo tried, but wasn't convincing her at all.
"I'm sorry sir I can't just hand them out to a stranger." The woman curtly announced, her stance growing fierce.
Shit- this was bad-
"I'm not-"
"Sensei!" Blinking, the woman turned. One of her students waved down from a window up high. "There are some officers that want to talk to you!" the boy yelled, only causing more surprise to reflect on her expression.
"What?"
Police.
Feeling his blood run cold the blond quickly turned.
They were already here?!
"Ah, hey you wait!" the teacher called, but Shizuo made sure to get out of her sight as he skipped out of a side entrance of the school.
He had to get in there- preferably before the police fetched Izaya's siblings-
It was then, a pure coincidence, that Shizuo saw two girls.
Up ahead they were standing at the end of the street, talking to two police officers.
Shizuo had never really seen the two, but now looking at them he just knew it was them.
They smelled like Izaya.
Steps speeding up he quickly approached the group of four.
The girls seemed on edge. Ready to run and bail at a given chance. If not for the smell then Shizuo would have recognized them this way for sure.
"Where are your parents?" One of the officers asked with a hint of annoyance as Shizuo approached.
"Ah, there you two are! I was looking for you!" Having his most trustworthy smile on his lips he approached the small group.
Quizzical expressions met his own as neither of the twins seemed to recognize Shizuo and their lacking recognition didn't go by the officer's attention.
"Sir, I'm sorry, who are you?" one of the two asked, approaching Shizuo with one hand raised.
He seemed to care about the twin's well being-
Good.
That meant those two officer's weren't there to take the girls into custody.
"I`m their father. I meant to pick them up from school, but the traffic…" Shizuo smiled apologetically.
The other officer sighed, obviously much less suspecting than his colleague.
"They should wait for you inside the building next time."
"That's what I told them too," Shizuo agreed, and glanced towards the two. They were Izaya's siblings.
If they were anything like him they should be able to pick up on his sharade.
Mairu was the fastest as she quickly hurried over to Shizuo's side.
"Sorry, daddy, we won't do it again," she apologized while grasping her sister's hand to follow.
The officer nodded, seemingly as much relieved as he was pleased by the outcome.
"Alright, take care," he raised the tip of his cap in a greeting motion as he turned.
Shizuo did the same as he bowed shortly.
"Thank you." And with that the two disappeared. Silence ruled the next few seconds as the three stood, not daring to move a muscle.
"So-" Mairu was the first to speak, "Did we get ourselves kidnapped or why are you pretending to be our father?"
