Chapter 49: Enjoy
What a sight.
Grunting noises of unwilled captives resounded as they hammered against the bars of their cells. Izaya had been moved to his own personal space. It was at least one positive perk about having the police suspect him to be an incubus. He was dangerous, so putting him with a stranger was no option.
The cell itself was quite… simple, really.
A bed made of bars and a sorry excuse for a mattress sat in the corner. Right next to a small table, a meal consisting of dry bread and an apple had been served right next to what was supposed to be a toilet.
Talk about appetizing.
Sitting on top of the bed Izaya had pulled one leg up and casted his glance towards a small barricaded window. It was barely the size of Shizuo's palm but presented the pretty view of an oak tree's leaves.
The sun was glowing strongly and the slightest patterns of leafy shadows reached into the cell.
Again violent punches and rattling sounds filled the air.
Rolling his eyes Izaya hoped the guards would stop patrolling soon as the captives only enraged when they saw them advance.
It took a few minutes until everyone calmed down again and peaceful silence returned to the cell.
Feeling his expression relax, Izaya closed his eyes once again as his lips curled into a faint smile.
What a sight. Yes.
Not the cell, no, but Shizuo.
Recalling the new look the blond, pardon, now black haired brute had presented Izaya couldn't help but let his mind wander.
This day had been a long one- getting shot, waking up at Shizuo's place, the confession, the sex, the police station-
Izaya was almost grateful for the time received in solitude. With no way to act or busy himself he had more than enough time to sort his thoughts.
The topic of his capture was an easy one. Izaya expected to be freed by the end of the week. Seeing as he had had sex with Shizuo just an hour prior to getting caught he had to have enough energy within himself to manage at least seven days.
It was easy, he just had to wait.
And then-
A smile forced itself on his expression.
… Shizuo had looked attractive. Not that Izaya wasn't a fan of his usual attire but having his hair dyed black and styled in a manner only some kind of high standing head of a company would wear had something alluring to it.
It made his mind trail back to moments he had rather ignored so far. For example the day Shizuo fucked him across his desk, handcuffed and all.
Or the way they ended up in that alley- at home too.
One round, two, three had not been enough.
And then that day-
The last time they had met up before Izaya had started to vastly misunderstood Shizuo`s intentions.
Biting his lower lip Izaya somehow couldn't help but think he hadn't been happier in his life. Just thinking about the way Shizuo had looked at him after he had passed out in the shower just stirred him up in a way he had never experienced before.
All his life he had cursed his genes, but right now he felt like they had finally acted in his favor.
Had Shizuo not tried to save his life the day Izaya started to fade none of this would have ever happened.
Izaya wouldn't have experienced this warmth, the feeling of somehow belonging to someone. And Shizuo-
Sighing softly Izaya let his head thud back into the hard mattress and stiff cushion.
He couldn't wait.
As soon as he cleared his name of all accusations his life was suddenly something he looked forward to. He didn't exactly know what Shizuo's plans were from here on out, but somehow he had a feeling no matter what it was the blond was going to suggest, he was going to like it.
The soft clatter of keys against iron startled Izaya from his daydreams as he turned his head to gaze towards the bars acting as the door of his cell.
Unnatural silence filled the rows of the prisoners as a certain police officer entered the hall.
Vincent.
This wasn't the first time Izaya interacted with the police and he had never feared to do so either, but this guy was a different matter.
He was off.
Eerie.
Something about him just struck Izaya in all the wrong ways.
And it seemed he wasn't alone as none of the captives acted up as soon as the officer stepped into the hallway.
"Orihara, your meal, you haven't touched it I see." Sleep smile that couldn't care less about Izaya's well being sitting awfully gross in place he put down another plate with food.
Seeing as Izaya hadn't touched the food it was probably part of the protocol to remind the captives to eat.
"Ah, now that you say it, I didn't realize at all."
Bullshit. Of course he had noticed the food. But sitting here in his new cell anything but eating had been on his mind, really.
Izaya wanted to get on that officer's nerves as much as possible.
He knew that probably wasn't the wisest move to pull, but the guy was just unsympathetic to a point where Izaya didn't care whether he would make this week in his cell more bothersome than necessary as long as he managed to piss him off.
But somehow the sarcasm he showed didn't seem to have its desired effect.
Showing the sleekest smile Vincent merely replaced the tray with something more pleasant to the eye. Some kind of stew and what Izaya suspected was a few pieces of a freshly cut orange.
"Of course. Demons don't need food do they? Except for the prey they assault that is," Vincent smiled and stepped back from the cell.
Izaya's eyes narrowed.
… prey huh?
The keys clattered against the iron anew as the officer flashed him another smile.
"Do continue acting suspicious, please, it just acts in my favor." And with that he was gone.
Soft whispers and murmurs arose from the rest of the cells but Izaya didn't pay them any mind.
Sight trailing to the new and actually decent meal he analyzed his options. Leaving the food again was probably going to annoy the guy to some degree.
But leaving it-
Izaya wasn't stupid, he knew that acting in that way was probably just what Vincent wanted. It wasn't like the police could keep him captured for much longer just because he refused to eat. And still…
In their eyes he was a demon, nothing that deserved being judged by human law. If he strengthened their beliefs it wasn't going to act in his favor.
With a sting of guilt Izaya remembered Shizuo's expression when he told him he had to stay here for a week.
His worry. And fear.
The care thow two implied was stronger than his urge to annoy Vincent and so Izaya pushed himself off the bed.
Lazily and not quite interested he picked up the spoon to tilt a potato over.
One twice he flipped it before letting it disappear behind his lips.
… well. At least the cooks here seemed to be better than those back at Raira Academy. With the slightest hint of a smile he remembered the cafeteria.
The amount of times Shizuo flipped his tray and started throwing the tables-
Now he was flipping tables too, but in a way Izaya couldn't deny favoring.
Another spoonful was swallowed as Izaya chuckled.
Yeah, waiting inside this cell wasn't going to be as daunting as he had thought it to be.
"Hey, if I were you I wouldn't try that."
A spider crawling across Izaya's face would have probably startled him less than the voice that suddenly addressed him from his neighboring cell.
Another inmate of this temporary prison was staring at him from the reflection of a mirror in the opposing cell. Both the content of his words as well as the unexpected gaze tipped Izaya slightly off as he glared.
"What?"
The guy was roughly his age, a little younger maybe but their physique couldn't have differed more. Compared to Izaya who was undeniably fit yet lean, this man seemed fairly famished in comparison. Long dark hair framed a face that could have easily been mistaken for a girl`s as he looked forth from a set of bangs.
It was then that the door at the far end of the corridor opened once more and he quickly backed into the far off side of his cell.
"Ditch the food," the stranger hissed with tight lips and Izaya stilled.
… had they done something to it?
Feeling incredibly nauseous he looked at the curry that suddenly seemed much more dangerous than the impending danger of being found out.
Quick and smooth, before anyone was able to notice a thing the spoon was cleaned and set right next to the plate as if the food had never been touched and Izaya withdrew to his bed.
Not a second too late as his favorite guard returned.
"I almost forgot. It's common practice to provide even demons with something to pass time." An arrogant smile decorated Vincent's expression as he approached Izaya's cell.
He had a book at hand and with a quick flick of his hand he tossed it inside the cell. "Have fun."
If Izaya hadn't been on edge because of what was possibly coursing inside his body he would have probably laughed at the joke- it was a good one. Something he would have enjoyed and quickly replied to, but right now all he felt was unsure hatred as he picked the piece of literature off the ground.
It was the bible.
"I have read that one already," he announced between tight lips as he tossed the object back into the hallways.
Stepping aside with ease Vincent gave an uninterested shrug as he picked it off the ground once more. "Really? Too bad."
"Take that while you are at it." Following the direction Izaya was pointing into, Vincent's sight fell onto the tray with food. A smile was all he showed as he hummed.
"Are you not hungry?"
Now? Definitely not anymore.
Moving confidently as if he had nothing in the world to fear, Izaya approached the cell's bars. Arrogance defined his expression as he sneered.
"I prefer a real dinner outside of these cells, thank you very much."
Unsettling the guy had been his goal and it seemed he somewhat succeeded as Vincent's mood soured.
"Enjoy the rest of your life then," he announced curtly before turning into the hallway and back to the door.
Familiar silence returned perturbed by nothing but a few whispers of other inmates that were now picking the conversations they had paused back up.
"Did you eat some?" it was just one of the many whispers traversing in the limited space that was directed at Izaya.
Moving over the raven let his back thud against the wall separating him from his newfound friend.
… or enemy?
"...who are you?" he hissed quietly, not wanting anyone else to partake in their conversation.
A snort was stifled as the stranger complained, "A bit late to be wary don't you think? Did you or did you not?" Izaya didn't like the way the stranger was commanding the pace at which they went but what he said was the truth.
Had he wanted to get Izaya into trouble then he would have had the chance to while Vincent had been present.
"... two bites." he answered truthfully, only to hear his cellmate draw a quick breath along with a curse.
"Fuck."
The word certainly caused Izaya's guts to sink. The response sounded too honest in its direness to be waved off as an exaggeration.
"Care to tell me what it is that I ingested?" Izaya whispered with an unease smile on his lips.
A sigh followed and suddenly his new friend rose to his feet, "You will realize soon enough." The bars were grabbed and before Izaya could even complain about his lack of answers the guy had pressed his face against the rods.
"HEY. SHITTY GUARDS. DO YOUR DAMNED JOB-" he blurted as loud as his frail body could possibly manage causing not only Izaya to flinch.
Just what on earth was he doing?
Quickly the door leading to the hallway opened once more. A set of two police officers quickly strode towards the troublemaker. With fervor and a hint of annoyance they brought their baton against the bars.
"Cease it instantly!" The taller one hissed towards the captive, but Izaya's friend didn't falter in the slightest. Ignorance was all he showed as he pointed to his own table and tray of food.
"I would if you hadn't forgotten my share of water," he critiqued the officer's service as though he was an important critic visiting a high end restaurant.
Madness defined the taller officer's face but he turned to glance at his comrade nonetheless.
"You forgot?" he asked, and the police officer's expression fell. "I thought I-" Quickly he cleared his throat as he corrected his way of speaking. "I apologize." A quick bow was given as he took the blame for what had to unmistakably be his own error.
A winning expression showed on the young lad's face as he raised a brow.
"New guy, huh?"
"Shut up. He will get your damned water so back off," the taller officer spat.
Raising his hands in defense as if to show he was unarmed Izaya's friend continued to play with the officers' mood as he stepped backwards.
"Appreciated."
With quick strides the subordinate officer left the hall, only to return, this time with the desired bottle of liquid. A cheshire grin spread across the prisoner's face as he grasped the desired object.
"Thank you very much."
Clicking his tongue the officer turned- and just like that the two of them left, leaving a pretty confused Izaya behind.
"Hey, new guy. Move over."
The command had stemmed from his newfound friend- curiosity higher than his caution Izaya did as he was told. Two bottles of water were held out from the front of the stranger's cell- steered just right so that Izaya was able to grab them.
With irritation Izaya realized the guy had been given his bottle of water all along and he just put on a show to receive another for apparently Izaya's sake. A frown crossed his expression as the guy continued. "Drink and pray."
to be continued~
xD alright who can guess what will happen now? C: xD I don't think it's too hard to think of it, especially since a reader suggested something along these lines once xDDDDD
Cough-
anyway!
I have an announcement to make!
I have not only returned today to update all my stories, BUT I have also finalized the date my Trilogy is going to start xD
First week of December 2023 will be the release of Yultesra part 1/3!
For those who don't know, I have been working on a fantasy trilogy for the past 10+ years and now the time has finally come to get it published xD
And well… I decided to upload the book here xD
That's right, you will get the entire first book xD
Every Saturday you will get another chapter until the end of November and in the first week of December I will physically publish the first part of Yultesra :3
I know you will probably ask, huh, why upload it here? No one will buy it if one can read it for free online….?
And you are right xD
But the thing is apparently when self-publishing my books on amazon only people from England, Germany/Austria and America can actually purchase a physical copy so far. And I know from reader stats on fanfiction that there are a lot of other countries who read my works, Russia, Japan etc. and so I thought I just didn't want to exclude those people from the story :3
Also, I am not writing to become rich anyway xD
All in front I want people to enjoy the plots and stories I come up with, so if you want to support me and it's an available option in your country you can purchase my book, but if you can't that's also fine :3
I'm just as happy and content to read your lovely comments xD
The first Shizaya stories were written so badly- and yet you stayed xDDD Some of you have been following me for years, some even became my closest friends, and some might have just joined- welcome to those who just stumbled across my works haha
So this book is like a gift to you all, for having accompanied me for almost ten years in my writing journey xD
With that being said… Enjoy! xD
