Chapter 10
Alex met Marie at the Tower and they quickly headed upstairs. Everyone had gone home so it was just the two of them. Tomorrow was another day and now that they'd effectively stopped Enigma's original plan, it was quite possible that the villain would go underground.
"So why all the secrecy?" Marie wanted to know as they took seats at the computer.
"We think that Enigma has a helper inside the NCPD," Alex admitted after explaining all that had been going on.
"Oh, that'll do it. Though it would explain the ability of Enigma to get places she shouldn't be able to," Marie shook her head.
"Lyla is on the case. She's got a guy she trusts inside the NCPD," Alex promised.
"That's good. So, there isn't much I can do huh?" Marie asked.
"Kara told me you're feeling a bit adrift. I know that J'onn was thinking that his actual detective agency needs to work like one. Our cover could be blown if we're out and about and clients are not getting their face-to-face meetings or the information they asked for," the redhead told her.
"Be a PI in my spare time? Not sure why I didn't think of that. I'll have to talk to Todd and see if he's in. How would that work with my engineering gig though? I mean I still have bills to pay," Marie pointed out.
"J'onn has all the details sorted. He'll bring this up once we nail Enigma and get this over with. Besides, we have other plans coming up and I'm going to need everyone refocusing their efforts," Alex smirked.
"What have you been up to?" The Amazon helper gave her a look.
"I haven't been able to say anything to Kara yet," the redhead admitted.
"Hey look who I found wandering around downstairs," The sound of the elevator and Kara's voice made them turn their heads. The blonde was exiting the lift with Todd.
"You guys having a secret meeting?" Todd gave Marie a look.
"You know how can I plan your birthday party if you keep following me?" The Amazon helper shot her own look back. While she was attempting to cover for herself, she actually did need to plan a birthday party. Marie hoped that Alex wouldn't think less of her.
"You're planning a birthday party?" Todd's shoulders sagged.
"Well, I was but now all you're getting is pizza and beer," Marie teased him by sticking out her tongue.
"That doesn't sound so bad…" he trailed off. Marie pulled him close and leaned into his side.
"She was bouncing ideas off me and I told her that J'onn had an idea for you guys to help us here or more inside the detective agency," Alex admitted.
"Ah, I did have a phone message from him but I tried to call him back and he didn't pick up. I wandered down here thinking he might be around," Todd said.
"Yeah, we're eyeball deep into this Enigma problem and he's gone off to M'gann's place," Kara told him.
"Long day?" He asked.
"You could say that. Why don't you guys come back to my place? We'll have some food and talk birthday party," Kara offered.
"I could eat," Marie said.
"Call Kelly. Have her meet us there," Kara told her sister. Alex nodded and quickly grabbed her phone. Hopefully now, she'd be able to tell her sister the good news.
