It was a quiet day in the Inkwell Isles. Gwen was sketching in her sketchbook until she heard her three best friends.
"Gwen! Gwen! Gwen!" All three cups called as they entered the cottage.
Gwen laughed as she faced her best friends.
"Hey guys. What's up?" Gwen asked.
"We just hooked Elder Kettle to the car battery again!" Cuphead answered.
Gwen shook her head.
"He's gonna get even with you guys." Gwen warned.
"Nah, he's cool with it." Ms. Chalice said.
Just then, Gwen remembered something.
"You know guys, there's gonna be a witch festival in Salem tomorrow. You guys wanna go?" Gwen asked.
"Ooh…!" All three cups said.
"Wait, why a festival about witches?" Cuphead asked.
"Well, about 250 years ago, the people in Salem, Massachusetts lived great fear of witches and anyone who was suspected of being a witch were executed." Gwen explained.
"That's messed up." Mugman said.
"I know. People were superstitious in those times." Gwen said.
"Can we go to the witch festival girlfriend? Maybe there's witches there!" Ms. Chalice asked excitedly.
"Of course we can Chalice. But there's really no such thing as witches you know." Gwen said.
"Yeah, that's what you said about leprechauns when we were in Ireland." Mugman pointed out.
"Okay yes, I was wrong about them. But I'm pretty sure this time there's no such thing as witches. They're just mythical dark magic users in fairytales and scary stories." Gwen said.
"Okay, enough debating about witches being real or not, let's go!" Cuphead said.
"Alright, we'll go first thing tomorrow afternoon." Gwen said.
"Yay! Whoo! Yay!" All three cups cheered.
So, they carry on the rest of their day until it was bedtime, and everyone went to sleep.
The next morning, Gwen magically dresses herself in a witch outfit. Just then, the cups enter Gwen's room, ready to travel.
"Alright guys, ready?" Gwen asked.
"Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!" All three cups exclaimed.
Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group teleported to Salem, Massachusetts. They appear in an alleyway. They emerge and notice the Salem Witch Festival was beginning. Many citizens dress up in witch outfits and have witch themed booths and activities.
"Guys, welcome to Salem." Gwen said.
"Woah!" All three cups exclaimed.
They looked around in awe of the festivities.
"Let's go fellas!" Ms. Chalice said.
They start their way through the city to participate in the fun activities. They played games, ate treats and drank Halloween themed drinks. Later, the group walk down Essex Street when they come across a creepy old house.
"What's that creepy looking house over there?" Mugman asked.
"That's the Jonathan Corwin House. To the locals, the Witch House Mugsy." Gwen answered.
"Is it haunted?" Cuphead asked.
"It's rumored to be." Gwen answered.
"Ooh, let's go check it out!" Ms. Chalice said excitedly.
"No guys. There's more to see in Salem and the history of the Salem Witch Trials." Gwen said.
"Ooh! Ice cream!" Cuphead exclaimed and pointed.
"Yay!" Both Mugman and Ms. Chalice cheered.
They all go to the ice cream stand and purchase ice cream cones. They pass several more booths until something catches Gwen's eye. She notices a young creepy woman in a tent with various witchcraft items. Curiosity got the best of Gwen and decided to check it out.
The woman approached Gwen.
"A customer. Welcome. Look around, let me know if you find anything you like. Candles, herbs, crystals, amulets. I have them all." The young woman announced.
"Oh, thank you. I'm just looking around." Gwen said.
"Take your time. I'm working on a spell for one of my clients." The young woman said.
"Spell?" Gwen asked confused.
"Yes. People order my spells for their desires and needs." The young woman said as she handed a bottle to a customer.
Gwen still didn't believe in witchcraft.
"Good for you that you still do 'witchcraft'. Well, I'll let you get to it then." Gwen said as she turned to leave.
"That's rich… coming from you." The young woman said.
Gwen paused for a moment. Then, she turned around.
"I don't know what you mean by that, but I'm no witch." Gwen said, brushing it off.
"Oh, I know you're not. You are something much more than that. I can sense your magic in that inkwell and great power in you beyond the mortal world." The young woman revealed.
Gwen's eyes widened, feeling nervous.
"Who are you?" Gwen asked nervously.
"Temperance Williams." Temperance introduced herself.
"Gwendolyn Mae Emmons. Gwen for short." Gwen introduced herself.
"Charmed." Temperance said.
"How do you know about…?" Gwen was about to ask until Temperance interrupted.
"Believe it or not, I am an actual witch. You know, conjuring up spells. There was a whole hysteria about it 250 years ago?" Temperance asked.
"Yeah, I learned about the Salem Witch Trials in high school. Over 200 people were wrongfully convicted of being witches and 25 of them were executed. Those people were crazy." Gwen answered.
"Indeed, they were crazy. In fact, their souls still haunt this place, demanding justice for being wronged." Temperance agreed.
"So, how'd real witches avoid being caught?" Gwen asked.
"Let's just say they had their ways. They kept a low profile away from society." Temperance answered.
"What about you? You don't seem to be hiding." Gwen asked.
"As you can see times have changed. People think I'm just some retailer in a costume participating in the Witch Festival. They don't think I'm a real witch. I let them think that." Temperance answered.
"So, why are you trusting me with your secret?" Gwen asked.
"Because you too have your secrets. I'm not easily fooled." Temperance said with a smirk.
"Well, I gotta check on my friends. It was nice to meet you, Temperance." Gwen said as she turned to leave.
"Wait, before you go, let me give you my card if you ever need spells or magic from me." Temperance said as she handed Gwen a business card.
"Okay, thank you." Gwen said.
"Don't worry, I got your business card." Temperance said as she held up Gwen's business card.
Gwen is shocked and checked her pockets.
"How did you…?" Gwen was about to ask.
"Witchcraft, remember?" Temperance reminded her.
"Oh, right. See ya." Gwen said then turned to leave.
Gwen caught up with the cups who were playing some festival games and winning prizes.
"Hey Gwen, check it out! I won this black cat toy!" Cuphead bragged and showed the stuffed animal.
"Aw nice Cuphead." Gwen complimented.
"And look what I won!" Mugman said as he held up a book about the history of the Salem Witch Trials.
"Nice, another book to add to your collection." Gwen complimented.
"And check this out girlfriend!" Ms. Chalice said as she held up a witch hat and put it on her head.
"That looks cute on you Chalice." Gwen said.
"You betcha Gwen!" Ms. Chalice agreed.
"Wanna go get some lunch? They're serving clam chowder." Gwen asked.
"Yeah!" All three cups agreed.
The group sit at a picnic table with bowls of clam chowder with slices of sourdough bread.
"Oh yeah, that hit the spot." Mugman said with a full stomach.
"You said it." Cuphead agreed.
"The human world has the best food." Ms. Chalice said.
"Yeah. Even the Inkwell Isles has great food too." Gwen said.
"True." Ms. Chalice said.
"I thought I'd find you here." A familiar voice said.
Gwen shockingly turned around and noticed Temperance behind them. Then she sighed of relief.
"Oh Temperance. It's just you. I thought you were someone else." Gwen said.
"I know very well who you thought I was. And rest assured, I have no affiliation with him." Temperance assured her.
Temperance shows her bare hands.
"See? No burn scars." Temperance said.
"I see." Gwen said.
"Mind if I join you?" Temperance asked.
"Uh, no not at all." Gwen hesitantly said.
"Thank you." Temperance said as she sat down next to Gwen.
"Who's your new friend?" Cuphead asked.
"Guys, this is Temperance Williams. A witch shop retailer who sells witchcraft stuff." Gwen introduced.
"Your friends are not from this world, are they?" Temperance asked, figuring it out.
"You could say that." Mugman said.
"Oh, don't worry. Your secret is safe with me." Temperance assured them.
"So, Temperance, what exactly do you do?" Cuphead asked.
"I sell witchcraft items to people and my spells if they want." Temperance answered.
"Are you an actual witch?" Mugman asked.
"Yes." Temperance answered.
"Ha! I told ya witches are real girlfriend!" Ms. Chalice exclaimed.
"SHH! Not so loud!" Gwen scolded.
"Sorry, geez." Ms. Chalice said.
"Okay Temperance, I'll ask it. What do you want with me?" Gwen asked, getting to the point.
"Well Gwen, I could use your help with something." Temperance answered.
"With what?" Mugman asked.
"You see, I'm working on a very rare potion, but I am lacking very crucial rare ingredients." Temperance answered.
"Ooh! What kind of ingredients?" Cuphead asked.
Temperance pulled a list out of her pocket.
"I have a list of the remaining ingredients I need for the potion." Temperance said as she handed Gwen the list.
"I need ghost's teardrops, a stick from the Land of the Dead and fur from the Devil." Temperance explained.
"Weird ingredients for a potion." Ms. Chalice said.
"So says the girl who can turn into a ghost at will." Temperance said.
Ms. Chalice looked at Temperance unamused.
"Collect those three ingredients for me and I'll reward you handsomely." Temperance offered.
"Before I say 'yes', what does this rare potion do exactly?" Gwen asked.
"It's a surprise." Temperance hinted.
"Alright, we'll do it! We love surprises!" Cuphead quickly agreed.
"Cuphead!" Mugman scolded.
"Then I guess we have a deal. Come back to my tent when you have all the ingredients, and I'll get to work on the potion." Temperance said as she got up to leave.
The group glared at Cuphead.
"What? Sounds like a fun adventure." Cuphead said nervously.
"Cuphead! We don't know what this rare potion is capable of!" Gwen scolded.
"Aw come on girlfriend, it won't take long. Let's get going." Ms. Chalice said.
Gwen sighed, knowing she couldn't talk her friends out of this.
"Alight fine. But just this once. You remember the other time we were tricked into collecting ingredients and that almost got us killed." Gwen reminded them.
"Great! Let's go! We should start with the tears of a ghost." Cuphead said.
Gwen thought for a moment and smiled as she got an idea.
"I got an idea where to get ghost tears from. But first, we need to make a quick stop." Gwen said.
Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappeared. They reappear in Ennistymon Village, Ireland outside Darcy's cottage.
"Wait, what are we doing back in Ireland?" Mugman asked.
"I'm gonna need Darcy's help for my plan." Gwen answered.
Gwen approached the door until she suddenly heard Darcy playing the enchanted violin in the garden. She followed the sound and found Darcy. She suddenly noticed Gwen's presence and stopped playing.
"Gwen!" Darcy exclaimed excitedly.
Darcy ran up to Gwen and hugged her.
"I'm happy to see you too, Darcy." Gwen said.
"What brings ye here today?" Darcy asked.
"Darcy, I need your help with something." Gwen answered.
"Anything for ye." Darcy said.
"Thanks, let's go." Gwen said as she took her hand and took her to the cups.
Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappeared.
They reappear in the creepy cemetery in the Inkwell Isles.
"Wait, the creepy cemetery?! But those mean ghosts live here!" Mugman protested.
"What? Why are we here in this cemetery?" Darcy asked.
"I'll fill in you in." Gwen said.
Gwen explained the situation of Temperance and the ingredients needed for a rare potion.
"Why do ye trust that witch? Witches are not to be trusted." Darcy asked and warned.
"I don't trust her Darcy. But I'm going along with this and find out what she's up to." Gwen explained.
"Alright, I trust ye Gwen. So, do we get the taibhsí to cry tears?" Darcy asked.
"I have an idea now huddle up guys." Gwen said.
Gwen whispered her plan and explained their roles. The three cups run off into the cemetery and started vandalizing the tombstones by writing insults on them.
"Oh, I hope there are no ghosts around to scare us today." Gwen said loudly, hoping to get their attention.
"What are ye do-?" Darcy was about to ask until Gwen shushed her.
"Shh! Play along and keep your cool!" Gwen whispered.
Darcy nodded as they waited patiently. Gwen knew the ghosts were tricksters. They sat down on a log and waited for them to pull a trick.
The cups finish vandalizing and then hide in the bushes.
After a few minutes, a stick was suddenly snapped, making the girls alert. Then, Darcy suddenly felt a chill of air tingling up her spine.
"Ooh! The air be suddenly chilly!" Darcy exclaimed.
Gwen immediately realized they were here and tried to remain calm.
"They're here. Now, stay calm and don't move." Gwen whispered.
Darcy was started to feel scared as Gwen held her hand. Suddenly, Darcy felt something tickling her, making her laugh.
"Oh! Stop it!" Darcy exclaimed.
Suddenly, Darcy felt something push her off the log.
"Hey!" Darcy exclaimed.
Suddenly, the ghosts Emma and Jasper reveal themselves looking down at Darcy.
"Hello little girl." Jasper greeted and waved.
Darcy screamed and attempted to get up until the other ghost Duke revealed himself next to Gwen. He takes his skull cap off, revealing his brain with spiders.
"Top of the evening, lass." Duke greeted.
The spiders crawled off Duke's brain.
"Oh, Mary and Joseph! Taibhsí!" Darcy exclaimed.
Darcy attempted to run away until Gwen stopped her.
"Darcy! It's okay! I know them!" Gwen said to calm her down.
Gwen stood up as Darcy hid behind her.
"Took you three long enough. Did you have to scare my friend?" Gwen scolded the ghosts.
"Aw, come on kiddo, you brought us a new face to scare! We're just havin' fun with her!" Duke said as he circled around Darcy.
"Gwen, you know these Taibhsí?" Darcy asked confused.
"Oh yes lass, we go way back." Duke said as he tousled Gwen's hair.
"Uh, 2 years ago." Gwen corrected him.
"Uh oh! Someone's vandalized the tombstones!" Jasper pointed out.
The three ghosts look and are shocked at the vandalism.
"Stupid kids! No respect for the dead!" Duke angrily exclaimed.
"Don't worry. I can restore it." Gwen assured them.
"Me too." Darcy said as she held up her violin.
Both girls magically remove the vandalism and restore the tombstones back to normal.
"Ah, much better." Emma said, feeling satisfied.
"You didn't do this, did you kiddo?" Duke asked.
"No, we didn't do it, I learned my lesson. Besides that's not why we came here Duke." Gwen said.
"Then what do you want this time dearie?" Emma asked.
Jasper attempts to scare Gwen until Duke slapped him.
"Well… my friend Darcy's got a violin performance coming up and she wants an audience to perform for." Gwen lied.
"What? We're not interested in boring recitals." Duke said disappointingly.
"Oh no Duke. It's actually for a really creepy haunted house show. To make the guests feel uneased as they enter. Her role is to scare people with her music. They'll never see it coming." Gwen explained and lied.
"Oh…" All three ghosts said.
"So, I thought if anybody knew anything about scaring people, it was you guys. She wants an expert's opinion on her performance before she goes live. Isn't that right Darcy?" Gwen explained and asked Darcy and winked.
Darcy nodded nervously and held up her violin.
"Well, why didn't you say so kiddo?" Duke said.
The three ghosts sit down on the log, now willing to watch Darcy perform.
"Thanks guys." Gwen thanked.
Gwen turned to Darcy.
"Okay, play the saddest haunting melody you know." Gwen whispered.
Darcy thought for a moment and remembered a song.
"I know just the one." Darcy said.
Darcy walked up to the ghosts with her violin and prepared to play. She started to play the song "Canzonetta" Andante (2nd mvt) from Violin Concerto. She played until the ghosts started to get emotional from her performance. Gwen signals the cups to get ready.
Just then the ghosts started to get teary eyed as the cups quietly snuck up to the ghosts with a glass bottle.
Darcy continued to play when at last, the three ghosts started bawling their eyes out. Cuphead collected their tears until the bottle was filled up. The cups quickly ran back into the bushes. Gwen quietly sighed of relief, knowing her plan worked.
Darcy finally finishes up the song and the ghosts applaud her performance.
"Bravo! Bravo!" Duke cheered.
"That was… beautifully haunting." Emma complimented as she wiped her tears.
Jasper was still sobbing uncontrollably until Duke slapped him.
The ghosts flew up to Darcy, making her nervous.
"Lass, let me just say, you're really gonna scare the pants off those suckers!" Duke complimented.
"Uh, thank ye." Darcy nervously thanked.
"Just remember to make the surprise notes suddenly loud. That'll really give them a fright!" Duke advised.
"Oh, alright then." Darcy agreed.
"Well, that settles it. Thanks guys. Come on Darcy. Let's get you ready for the show." Gwen said as she led Darcy away.
Gwen and Darcy walked away. The cups quietly rejoin them, and Gwen quickly teleports themselves back to the Witch Festival at Temperance's tent.
Temperance approached the group.
"Ah, you collected ghost tears. Well done." Temperance complimented.
Temperance takes the bottle of ghost tears from Gwen.
"I see your music student aided you in collecting them." Temperance said.
"Aye. What is this beguiling potion ye be makin' chailleach?" Darcy asked suspiciously.
"It's a surprise. It'll be worth the wait." Temperance said as she went back in her tent.
"Come on, let's get the rest of the ingredients." Cuphead said.
Gwen teleports the group to the Land of the Dead. Gwen quickly picked a stick from an old tree and quickly teleported back to the Land of the Living. They reappear outside Temperance's tent.
"Will this stick do?" Gwen asked.
Temperance took the stick and observed it.
"Ah, it is indeed from the Land of the Dead. Perfect." Temperance said approvingly.
"So, all that's left is the Devil's fur?" Gwen asked.
"Yes. Bring me some of his fur and I will get started on the potion." Temperance answered.
The cups gulped, realizing they have to go back to Hell. Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappeared.
They appear in her prison bedroom in Hell.
"Okay, so what would the Devil be doing at this time?" Cuphead asked.
"Shh! Listen!" Ms. Chalice said, hearing something.
They barely catch a sound of the Devil singing to himself in another room. The group quietly sneak out of the bedroom and followed the sound until they reached a closed door where the Devil's singing grew louder with water running.
The cups try to keep in their laughter, realizing the Devil was singing in the shower.
"Ugh. The Devil sings in the shower?" Darcy asked disgustingly.
"Yep. I've heard his dumb singing a few times when I was a prisoner down here." Gwen explained.
"Okay, how are we gonna do this now?" Mugman asked.
Gwen thinks for a moment then realized she would have to do something drastic.
"Okay, one of us is gonna sneak in and snatch a bit of his fur." Gwen said.
"But who?" Cuphead asked.
"Draw straws?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"Nah, that's not good enough." Mugman disagreed.
Gwen loses patience.
"Fine, I'll go." Gwen groaned as she shapeshifted into a ghost.
She quietly flew through the bathroom door and noticed the Devil was behind the shower curtain in the bathtub singing to himself as he applied shampoo. Gwen quietly shuddered and moved closer to the shower, making herself invisible. Knowing he barely wears clothes; she peeks in and noticed the Devil happily singing to himself until he started coughing.
"Oh! I sang to hard I hurt my vocal cords!" The Devil groaned to himself.
Then, he opened his mouth to drink some water and gargled to clear his throat. While he was distracted, Gwen grabbed the Devil's razor and quietly shaved a little fur off his tail. After collecting some fur, Gwen quickly retreated out of the bathroom, rejoining her friends.
"Ugh. Got it." Gwen said as she held a bottle of the Devil's fur.
"Wow. How'd you get it?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"I don't wanna talk about it." Gwen quickly said.
Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappeared out of Hell back to Temperance's tent.
"Ah, you obtained the Devil's fur. Wonderful." Temperance said.
"Yeah. Now, what potion are you making? I'm tired of waiting. And don't say 'It's a surprise'. I'm done with your games Temperance." Gwen asked impatiently.
"I understand your frustration, Gwen. Come with me. You shall witness what this rare potion can do." Temperance answered.
The group followed Temperance inside the tent up to a large black cauldron.
"Now, I have everything I need to make this potion. Behold my power." Temperance said.
First, Temperance added a few herbs along with the ghost tears and the Devil's fur. She stirred the concoction until she stopped.
"Oh no." Temperance said.
"What's wrong?" Mugman asked.
"Well… I forgot the secret ingredient." Temperance admitted.
Gwen's eyes widened.
"And you pick now to tell us?" Cuphead asked.
"Ugh! What ingredient? We're done going to places and back!" Ms. Chalice said impatiently.
"Oh, you won't need to. One of you already has the secret ingredient." Temperance assured them.
"What do ye mean?" Darcy asked.
"Gwen, come here." Temperance said.
"What? Why me?" Gwen asked.
"You carry the secret ingredient. If you could give it a little of it, it will help." Temperance said.
"Wait, you mean…?" Gwen was about to ask.
"Yes, your cosmic power. Just put some in the cauldron." Temperance answered.
"Why?" Gwen asked suspiciously.
"You'll see." Temperance said.
Gwen hesitated but she eventually turned into her celestial form, shocking Darcy.
"Oh, Mary and Joseph! What happened to her?" Darcy exclaimed.
"I'll fill you in." Ms. Chalice said.
While Ms. Chalice explains Gwen's new powers to Darcy, Gwen raised her hands and shot some of her powers in the cauldron.
Temperance continued stirring until the cauldron started beaming bright.
"Oh, look away unless you want to lose your eyesight!" Temperance exclaimed.
Gwen, Darcy and the cups run for cover and duck in the ground. Suddenly…
BOOM!
The cauldron exploded a bright beam. After the explosion, Gwen, Darcy and the cups get up and go back inside the tent.
"What just happened?" Darcy asked.
Temperance levitated the cauldron up and poured the liquid into a bottle.
"Perfect! It's ready!" Temperance said happily.
"Okay! What does it do?!" Cuphead asked impatiently.
"Follow me!" Temperance said as she walked off.
With no other option, the group followed Temperance to Proctor's Ledge Memorial.
"Wait, isn't this where the executed witches were buried after they were hanged?" Gwen asked.
"Yes, Gwen. And it is time for them to have retribution they've longed for too long." Temperance said with a smirk.
The group gasped, realizing they've been double-crossed.
"You goggly geebag!" Darcy said angrily.
Darcy prepared to attack with her violin until Temperance shot a blast at Darcy, knocking her to the ground.
"Darcy!" Gwen exclaimed.
Temperance created a forcefield, protecting herself.
"For too long, witches have been persecuted, outcast, and executed out of fear!" Temperance angrily said.
Temperance regains control of herself.
"Boy, she's got a grudge." Cuphead said.
"Shh!" Gwen shushed.
"Even my own ancestors were also suspected of witchcraft and executed, thus outcasting our entire family!" Temperance revealed.
Gwen's eyes widened, realizing Temperance wants payback for witches being wrongfully executed.
"Now that the potion is ready, I will now cast my spell… of revenge!" Temperance angrily declared.
Temperance poured some of the potion over all the 25 graves. Then she took the stick and drew a large pentagram. She lit a black candle and prepared herself.
"Perdidit animarum redire ad corpora et ortum a sepulcro!" Temperance recited the incantation in Latin.
Suddenly, the pentagram started glowing bright until corpses from the 25 graves emerge from the ground. The group stood in horror as the zombie witches rose from their graves.
"Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-ZOMBIES!" Mugman fearfully exclaimed.
Temperance turned to Gwen.
"Now with the executed witches back from the grave, we shall now take our revenge on everyone in Salem, then the world!" Temperance said and cackled evilly.
"It's all thanks to you Gwen. I never could've done it without you. You've been a very big help to all witches." Temperance taunted.
Gwen looked in horror, realizing she made a huge mistake. Temperance turned to the zombie witches.
"Go and take your revenge on those who wronged you!" Temperance yelled.
The zombie witches start making their way towards Salem, preparing to attack innocent people.
"What are we gonna do? What are we gonna do?!" Cuphead fearfully exclaimed.
"I started this mess. I have to undo it." Gwen answered, feeling guilty.
"But Gwen! You can't take on an army of zombie witches yourself!" Mugman protested.
"Mugsy, I caused this. I have to stop it." Gwen said.
"Gwen! No!" Darcy tried to stop her.
Gwen bravely runs off to face the zombie witches herself.
The cups and Darcy stood in fear, not knowing what to do. Just then a puff of smoke appeared before the group and the Devil appeared before them.
"AH! THE DEVIL!" All three cups exclaimed.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah whatever. Now then… WHAT DID YOU IDIOT CUPS DO?!" The Devil furiously yelled.
"Uh…" Cuphead hesitated to answer.
Neither Mugman nor Ms. Chalice could answer either.
"Fine whatever you ninnies. You!" The Devil said and pointed at Darcy.
Darcy was scared as the Devil approached her and grabbed her arm.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" The Devil furiously asked and pointed his flaming pitchfork at her.
"I-I-I-I-I was helping Gwen collect ingredients for a potion for that witch!" Darcy fearfully explained.
The Devil doused his pitchfork.
"You helped my beautiful flower gather ingredients for the most forbidden potion?!" The Devil asked angrily.
"What do you mean forbidden potion?" Darcy asked.
"That resurrection spell and potion is strictly off limits! Those 20 witches are in eternal servitude to me and suddenly they were taken away from me!" The Devil angrily explained.
"Oh no." Darcy said worryingly.
"Now, where's Gwen?!" The Devil angrily asked.
"S-s-s-she went to take on those zombie witches alone!" Darcy answered.
The Devil released Darcy then goes after Gwen.
Meanwhile, Gwen tried her best to hold off the zombie witches with her magic, but to no avail. The zombie witches raised their hands, and a giant streak of lightning formed in the sky. Before they could strike Gwen, the Devil quickly intervenes and deflects the giant lightning streak.
"Oh no." Gwen said worryingly.
The Devil quickly used his pitchfork and swiped all the souls of the zombie witches.
"Did you think you idiots could get out of eternal servitude that easily? I think not!" The Devil asked.
He made a soul tube emerge from the ground and has all 25 of them sucked down back to Hell. Just then, Gwen fired a flame thrower blast at Temperance's cauldron, thus destroying the potion for good.
"NO!" Temperance yelled in defeat as the forcefield lowered down.
Temperance fell to the ground in despair. Darcy used her violin to put the corpses back into their graves.
The Devil grabbed Gwen's arm and pulled her towards Temperance.
"You dare to make the forbidden resurrection potion and cast the spell you pathetic excuse of a witch?!" The Devil angrily asked.
Temperance trembled in horror at the Devil's presence.
"I have a suitable punishment in mind for you. I will see to you later." The Devil said.
Temperance squirmed in terror. The Devil looked at Gwen.
"As for you my beautiful flower, what were you thinking trusting a witch and do her bidding?!" The Devil angrily asked.
"I'm sorry! I thought…" Gwen tried to explain but the Devil cut her off.
"You thought? You thought?! How's that working out for you?" The Devil asked.
Gwen paused in silence, realizing the Devil has a point.
"Exactly!" The Devil said.
"But how did you…?" Gwen was about to ask until the Devil cut her off.
The Devil grabbed his tail, revealing the shaved spot.
"Oh…" Gwen said, realizing he caught on to her actions.
"You didn't think I'd notice, did you?!" The Devil asked.
Gwen sighed, realizing she was in big trouble.
"Devil, she was blinded by revenge for the wrongdoings of the people who executed those people. Maybe there's another way? I can help her." Gwen asked, trying to convince the Devil.
The Devil gives Gwen a stern look.
"Perhaps there is." The Devil said, giving her a look.
"Oh no, is it…?" Gwen was about to ask.
"You know it." The Devil confirmed.
Later, Gwen, Darcy and the cups were down in Hell facing their punishment along with Temperance.
"You all get to spend the rest of the evening cleaning my realm. Now chop chop! Get to work!" The Devil ordered.
The three cups groaned as they followed the humans with the cleaning cart.
Hours later, the group finished up with cleaning the underworld.
"That was harder than I thought." Darcy said, wiping sweat from her forehead.
"No kidding." Temperance agreed.
"Yeah, we're stuck cleaning because of you!" Cuphead scolded.
"Hey, you agreed to help her with the potion!" Mugman argued.
"Guys! We're all to blame for trusting Temperance!" Gwen scolded.
Gwen looked at Temperance as she looked guilty.
"Temperance, why did you want revenge on everyone in Salem?" Gwen asked.
"Because my ancestors were wrongfully blamed for crimes they didn't commit. True they were witches, but they did nothing wrong or hurt anybody." Temperance sadly answered.
"So, you thought resurrecting them to make humans suffer would make you feel better?" Ms. Chalice asked.
Temperance nodded sadly.
"You know Temperance, I too committed acts of revenge on those who hurt me." Gwen admitted.
Temperance looked at Gwen.
"But it also got me in trouble. And I realized that I can't let hatred of others blind me and do bad things. Despite what I did, I was forgiven and learned from my mistakes and became a better person." Gwen explained.
"She does have a point lass." Darcy agreed.
"I… I guess I was too consumed by my desire for revenge I became the thing I sought to destroy." Temperance admitted.
"It's okay Temperance. It's not too late to learn from your mistakes and move on." Gwen assured her.
Temperance gave a little smile.
"Thank you, Gwen. All of you." Temperance thanked.
The group finished cleaning up the underworld.
"Ugh! Finally! Now can we go home?" Cuphead whined.
The group noticed Henchman inspecting their cleaning.
"Everything looks clean. Alright, you all may go now." Henchman said.
Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappeared back to Temperance's tent. They look at the mess Temperance made with the potion.
"I guess I should clean up my mess." Temperance said as she magically made some gardening tools come to life.
"Okay, we better get going. Good luck Temperance." Gwen said.
"Thank you. I wish you luck too." Temperance said.
Gwen looked on the counter and noticed a little bag.
"Hey, how much for that little bag?" Gwen asked.
"Nothing, take it. It's on the house." Temperance said.
Gwen takes the little bags, then drops Darcy off at her cottage in Ireland and then return to the Inkwell Isles. Ms. Chalice returned to Clarence's apartment and Gwen and the cup brothers went upstairs to bed.
While the cups brushed their teeth, Gwen quietly sprinkled the powder from the little bag on their beds and quickly retreated.
Just as the cups crawl into bed, the cups started to feel itchy and started scratching their bodies.
"Hey! I'm itchy!" Cuphead complained.
"Me too! Why am I so itchy?!" Mugman complained.
Just then, the cups noticed the little bag which is revealed to contain Itching Powder.
Elder Kettle was heard laughing.
"Gotcha boys! Now we're even!" Elder Kettle taunted.
Gwen was heard snickering.
"I warned you guys he'd get even. In fact, Elder Kettle asked me to help him get even." Gwen said.
Gwen and Elder Kettle leave the cups to suffer until the itching wore off and went to bed.
Gwen learned another lesson about trusting people without knowing their true intentions. As for Temperance, she cleaned her mess and started to learn from her mistake about revenge blinding her to do bad things without thinking about the consequences.
