It has been a while since Gwen and the cups dealt with their new witch friend Temperance Williams in Salem after being tricked into collecting ingredients for a forbidden potion to resurrect the convicted witches to take their revenge. Since then, Gwen helped Temperance see the error of her ways and became friends with her.
It was another afternoon in the Inkwell Isles and Gwen was once again finishing up studying in the family room for an upcoming test at college. She placed her papers in her folders and school bag.
"That should do it. But what do I do now?" Gwen asked herself.
Just then, Cuphead and Mugman come walking in bickering as usual.
"I wanna get a puppy!" Cuphead argued.
"No, I wanna get a kitten!" Mugman argued.
"PUPPY DOG!" Cuphead yelled.
"KITTY CAT!" Mugman yelled.
They both kept yelling the same thing until they started physically fighting each other. Gwen is once again not surprised and minded her own business.
"Don't get involved Gwendolyn." Gwen said to herself and left the cups alone to fight.
Gwen goes outside and went off for a little walk in the forest. She stared at the surrounding trees and wondered what else she could try that she'd never done before.
Just then, a few bees flew past her head.
"Oh! Sorry." Gwen apologized.
She noticed the bees flying into an old beehive hanging above a tree that didn't look in good shape.
"Oh my. That beehive looks bad." Gwen said, looking at the poor beehive.
Just then, the beehive collapsed to the ground and was destroyed. Gwen quickly used her ink pen to make a forcefield to shield herself from the frenzying bees.
"Oh dear." Gwen said worryingly.
After the bees calmed down, Gwen looked down at the destroyed beehive and noticed the little queen bee helplessly struggling. Gwen knelt down and cautiously reached her hand for the little bee.
"It's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you." Gwen said gently.
Gwen bravely lifted the forcefield and gently scooped the queen bee in her hand.
"Are you alright little one?" Gwen asked.
The queen bee was crawling around her hand when Gwen got an idea. She takes the queen bee as all the worker and drone bees followed her. In a clearing not far from the cottage, Gwen magically created a beekeeper nest and gently placed the queen bee inside. The worker and drone bees joined the queen as they started settling in their new hive.
Gwen noticed the bees knew she wasn't going to hurt them, so they trusted her and didn't sting her. Just then, she heard the cups coming.
"Hey Gweny! Whacha doing?" Cuphead asked.
"Oh, just helping these bees settle into their new home." Gwen answered.
"Aw, you're helping these bees." Mugman complimented.
"Thanks buddy." Gwen thanked.
The cups join Gwen and watch the bees finish claiming the hive as their own.
"Well, they look happy." Cuphead said.
"Yeah Cuphead. Now, they have a new home." Gwen said.
"So, what now?" Mugman asked.
"Now, we leave them 'bee.'" Gwen joked and giggled.
Mugman giggled.
"Get it? Bee?" Gwen asked.
"Yeah. We get it." Cuphead said.
"Come on guys. Let's go." Gwen said.
The trio leave the beehive and head back home. The cups returned to playing in the front yard while Gwen went to sketch in her sketchbook.
Later, Gwen and her family have dinner together until it was time for bed.
The next day, Gwen decided to check on the beehive. She goes back into the forest and approached the beehive. She noticed the bees were settling in nicely into their new home.
"Aw, you guys love your new home?" Gwen asked.
The bees look at her and all nodded at her.
"That's great." Gwen said.
A few bees bring out a tiny cup of honey and push it toward Gwen.
"For me?" Gwen asked.
All the bees nodded. Gwen took the tiny cup and sipped the honey.
"Mmm. So sweet." Gwen said, admiring the taste.
The bees smiled, happy that Gwen loved their honey.
"Give me some of that honey!" Cuphead said as he tried to reach into the hive.
"Uh, I wouldn't do that if I were you." Gwen warned.
But Cuphead didn't listen and opened the hive. Suddenly, a swarm of bees flew up, making Cuphead scared.
"Uh oh…" Cuphead said worryingly.
The bees started chasing Cuphead and started screaming and running all around the forest.
"I warned him." Gwen said, unfazed.
Just then, Mugman approached Gwen.
"Hey Gwen, what's going on?" Mugman asked.
"Oh, Cuphead angered the bees." Gwen answered.
Mugman looked at Cuphead being chased by the angry bees.
"Yep. He never learns." Mugman said, shaking his head.
Cuphead kept running until he suddenly fell into a mud puddle, thus losing the angry bees as they flew back in the hive.
Cuphead got out of the mud puddle, all covered in mud.
"Something tells me your name is now Mud!" Mugman taunted as he approached his brother.
Feeling insulted, Cuphead shoved Mugman into the mud puddle, thus getting him dirty too. Mugman angrily gets out of the mud puddle and prepared to attack Cuphead laughing at him.
"Why you…!" Mugman angrily exclaimed.
"GUYS!" Gwen yelled.
Both cups looked at Gwen.
"Come on, let's get you two cleaned up before Elder Kettle gets steamed again." Gwen said.
Back at the front yard of the cottage, Gwen washed the mud off the cups with the garden hose until all the mud was cleared off.
"There. All clean." Gwen said.
"When will their honey be ready to harvest?" Cuphead asked.
"Not for a while Cuphead. Making honey takes time and patience." Gwen answered.
"What are you gonna do with the honey and the beeswax?" Mugman asked.
"I was thinking of selling the honey and the beeswax for anyone who wants to make candles, lip balm or something." Gwen answered.
"Neat." Mugman said.
Just then they hear someone coming. Fearing it was the Devil; the cups quickly hide behind Gwen.
"Who's there?" Gwen called.
Appearing from the trees, Gwen's former boss Rumor Honeybottoms approached the trio.
"Oh! Mrs. Honeybottoms! I didn't expect to see you here." Gwen said in shock.
"Hey sugar. I heard you got a studio of your own now and have your own assistant. You're doing pretty well for yourself. I'm so sorry about what happened." Rumor said and apologized.
"It's alright Mrs. Honeybottoms. I understand you had a job to do, as heartbreaking as it was." Gwen said.
"Thanks sugar." Rumor thanked.
"But I have to go back to school because I need to get a degree and a business license to keep my studio and my assistant her job." Gwen explained.
"Oh, that's good you're going to school." Rumor said.
Rumor noticed the beehive Gwen set up for the bees.
"Say, did you make that beehive?" Rumor asked.
"Yeah. These poor bees lost their last hive, so I took the liberty to give them a new hive." Gwen said.
"You always had a heart for helping others." Rumor complimented.
Both Gwen and Rumor look at the happy little bees settling in their new hive.
"What are you gonna do with the honey and beeswax?" Rumor asked.
"I was thinking of selling jars of honey and beeswax to whomever for candles and stuff. Why?" Gwen explained and asked.
"What if I purchased your honey and beeswax. We could use more of that stuff back at the Honeycomb Herald." Rumor offered.
"Really ma'am?" Gwen asked.
"Of course, honey. You forget I make the best honey and make good use of beeswax. We could go into business together. Kinda like old times." Rumor said.
"You know ma'am, I think I'll take you up on your offer." Gwen said.
"Wonderful! I'll be on over for your first harvest." Rumor said.
Both Rumor and Gwen shake on it and the group leave to return home.
The next day, Gwen was reading one of her favorite books "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving. She hears her cup brothers Cuphead and Mugman with Ms. Chalice once again playing marbles in the living room.
Cuphead wins the latest round of marbles.
"I win again!" Cuphead said happily.
"Hmph!" Mugman huffed and folded his arms.
"Aw come on Mugsy, it's just a game." Ms. Chalice said.
"Yeah, but I can't win without overthinking it!" Mugman complained.
"That's because I don't overthink it, remember?" Cuphead reminded him.
Gwen quietly snickered under her breath.
All cups turned to Gwen, giving her an unamused look.
"Don't you have anything better to do?" Cuphead asked.
"Nope. Homework's done; chores are done, some more wedding preparations are taken care of. So, I decided to read one of my favorite books." Gwen answered and continued reading.
Mugman walked up to Gwen, looking at the book she was reading.
"Sleepy Hollow? What's that?" Mugman asked.
"It's an isolated village north of New York City where Cordelia used to live." Gwen answered.
"Ooh. What's so legendary about that village?" Mugman asked.
"Because the people there believe in a ghoulish undead ghost called the Headless Horseman." Gwen answered.
Cuphead and Ms. Chalice suddenly joined Mugman.
"Headless Horseman?" Cuphead asked.
Mugman shuddered at the mention of the name.
"Yeah, he literally has his head missing. He chases his victims on his horse and beheads his victims with his sword, taking their heads with him." Gwen explained.
"But why?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"Because his own head was taken after he was killed during the Revolutionary War. He used to be a Hessian soldier fighting with the British against Americans. So, he rises from the grave and goes after people's heads until he gets his head back wherever it is." Gwen answered.
"Yikes." Mugman answered, wincing at the thought.
"But it's just a legend. The Headless Horseman is not real. It's just a local myth to scare people." Gwen assured him.
"Oh yeah? How do you know?" Cuphead asked.
"Ask anyone. Papa told me there's no such thing." Gwen answered.
"Yeah, like you thought the Devil, leprechauns and witches weren't real?" Ms. Chalice asked, proving a point.
"I know, but this one's different. It's a myth made up by superstitious people." Gwen said.
"Oh really? How can you be sure unless we go there and see him for ourselves?" Cuphead asked.
"You wanna go to Sleepy Hollow to find the Headless Horseman?" Gwen asked then laughed.
"Go ahead and laugh, but I wanna see if this headless guy's real or not." Cuphead said.
"Why?" Gwen asked.
"Because I wanna go on another adventure in the human world! And if he's real, you gotta do our chores for a week!" Cuphead answered excitedly.
"Have you forgotten we already came back from Salem after our ordeal with Temperance?" Gwen reminded him.
"Yeah, now I wanna go on another one." Cuphead shot back.
"Me too." Ms. Chalice agreed.
Gwen thought for a moment, then got an idea.
"Maybe Temperance might know if the Headless Horseman is real or not. I could call and ask her." Gwen said.
"Can't hurt to ask the witch." Mugman agreed.
Gwen grabbed her magic telephone, got out Temperance's business card and dialed the number.
Back in Salem, Massachusetts, Temperance was in her personal cottage in the woods working on another potion when her telephone rang. Temperance set down her staff and walked up to her phone.
"Who would be calling me at this time of day?" Temperance asked as she picked up.
"Temperance's Spells and Potions. Temperance Speaking." Temperance answered.
"Hi Temperance. It's me, Gwen." Gwen answered.
"Oh, hi Gwen. I didn't think you'd call. What spell or potion do you need?" Temperance asked.
"Uh, none of those thank you. I had a question." Gwen answered.
"Sure, what is it?" Temperance asked.
"Um, I was wondering, is the Headless Horseman real or not?" Gwen asked.
Temperance paused for a moment, trying to take in what Gwen asked.
"The Headless Horseman? As in that headless ghost from that old story in Sleepy Hollow?" Temperance asked, trying to understand.
"Well, you see, Cuphead here thinks he's real, but I obviously don't. So, I wanted a professional's answer." Gwen explained.
"I see. You didn't think I was a real witch at first, remember?" Temperance reminded her.
"Don't remind me." Gwen said, unamused as Ms. Chalice smirked.
"But to answer your question, I don't know. I've never seen him." Temperance answered.
"Oh, well thanks anyway." Gwen thanked.
Gwen looked at the cups.
"She doesn't know so we can assume he's not real." Gwen said.
Cuphead groaned.
"Gwen, just because we've never seen him doesn't mean he's not real. Why don't we travel to Sleepy Hollow and find out for ourselves?" Temperance suggested.
"What? You can't be serious. Cuphead wants to do that too." Gwen said.
"Yes!" Ms. Chalice said excitedly.
"I can help you settle your argument with Cuphead. We'll go to Sleepy Hollow, wait for nightfall and find the ghost then I can determine if he's real or not." Temperance offered.
"I don't know about this." Gwen answered nervously.
Gwen hesitated until Cuphead and Mugman give her the puppy-eyed look.
"Guys! Not the faces! No!" Gwen groaned.
But the cups kept at as Ms. Chalice turned up her charm at Gwen. Finally, gave into their faces.
"UGH! Fine!" Gwen frustratingly answered.
"Whoo! Yay! Whoo!" Both cups cheered.
"We'll do it." Gwen sternly agreed.
"Wonderful. Why don't you and the cups stop by my cottage and then you can teleport us to Sleepy Hollow?" Temperance asked.
"Fine, we'll be there in a minute. Bye." Gwen said and hung up.
"Another fine mess you got us into guys." Gwen grumbled as she grabbed her satchel.
"Aw come on Gwen, it'll be fun." Cuphead said.
Gwen packed her book, then tapped her ink pen and disappeared to Temperance's cottage.
At the cottage, Temperance packed her back until she noticed Gwen and the cups appearing in front of her.
"Gwen, you've come back." Temperance said.
Temperance gave Gwen a hug, happy to see her again.
"Yeah, I did. So, are you ready to go?" Gwen asked.
Temperance patted her bag.
"Alright then." Gwen said.
Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappeared.
They appear in the nearby woods outside of Sleepy Hollow, New York. They take in the sights as they started their way towards the town.
"Wow, so this is Sleepy Hollow." Mugman said.
"Yeah, it's smaller than I thought." Gwen said.
"Appearances can be deceiving. You lived in a big city once." Temperance said.
"Aw come on, this place isn't so spooky." Ms. Chalice said.
The group continued into town until they reached the town square. They notice the citizens starting at Gwen and her friends and kept their distance.
"What's eatin' them?" Cuphead asked.
"Don't mind them Cuphead. These people here are very superstitious. They're very weary of outsiders." Temperance answered.
"I noticed." Mugman said.
"Okay, let's do what we came here to do." Gwen said losing patience.
"Gwen, if we're to find this ghoul, we have to wait till nightfall at the witching hour." Temperance said.
"So, what are we supposed to do until tonight?" Gwen asked.
"We could just explore while we're here." Ms. Chalice suggested.
"Fine. Let's look around." Gwen hesitantly agreed.
The group start to explore around Sleepy Hollow, visiting shops. Later, they stop at a tavern for dinner. The group order root beers while Temperance had a cup of tea. For dinner, they order roast turkey, potatoes, gravy and roasted squash.
"This isn't so bad. These people really have good food here too." Cuphead said.
Ms. Chalice was eating a turkey drumstick.
"I agree! This New England food is awesome!" Ms. Chalice said.
"I've never seen a chalice eat so much." Temperance said as she sipped her tea.
Mugman drinks his root beer in one gulp.
"OUCH!" Mugman cried as held his head.
"You shouldn't do that. It causes severe but brief pain in your brain." Temperance advised.
"I know. It's called brain freeze." Mugman complained.
Just then, they notice a live band playing music and couples go on the dance floor and started ballroom dancing.
"Look at them. Dancing away like they haven't a care in the world." Temperance said.
"Have you ever fallen in love?" Gwen asked.
"No. Who'd want a creepy witch like me?" Temperance asked sadly.
"Don't talk about yourself like that. You are not alone." Gwen said, recalling Quadratus's advice.
Temperance looks at Gwen and gives a little smile.
Suddenly, a strong black-haired gentleman approached their table and bowed to Gwen.
"May I have this dance?" The gentleman asked.
"Uhh…" Gwen hesitantly answered.
"Wonderful!" The gentleman said and took Gwen's hand and led her away to the dance floor.
"Hey! She's already someone else's girl!" Mugman called.
Cuphead blew a raspberry at him.
Meanwhile the gentleman leads Gwen into a dance with the other couples.
"So, you're new here, aren't you?" The gentleman asked.
"Just visiting." Gwen answered.
"Oh, where are my manners? I am Koen Van Garrett." Koen introduced himself.
"Gwendolyn Mae Emmons. Gwen for short. Look, why did you ask me to dance? I'm already engaged." Gwen introduced and asked.
"Look, I'll be real with you Gwen. I'm trying to get back at my girlfriend who's purposely making me jealous by flirting with other guys." Koen explained.
Gwen looked to the side and noticed a beautiful blonde woman dancing with another man and then switched to another man.
"Oh. She's quite a coquette." Gwen said, noticing her behavior.
"Yeah. That's my Theresia. The richest and most beautiful girl in Sleepy Hollow." Koen said.
"Oh, a real Katrina Van Tassell." Gwen grumbled.
"What?" Koen asked.
"Nothing." Gwen quickly answered.
Koen continued leading Gwen as he twirled her, hoping to get Theresia's attention. Then, Koen dipped Gwen and lifted her back up. Finally, he bowed to Gwen and kissed her arm, ending the dance.
Theresia was shocked at Koen dancing with Gwen.
"Okay, well I hope you get your girlfriend back. I'll just go back to my friends." Gwen said and excused herself.
Gwen quickly rejoined her friends at their table and sighed of relief.
"You okay Gweny?" Cuphead asked.
"Ugh! That buffoon was using me to get back at his flirty girlfriend!" Gwen said angrily and held her head in her hands.
"Don't worry about him Gwen. Men like him are all brawn and no brains. And stupid girls like her are bored with their lives." Temperance said.
"She's got a point." Mugman agreed.
"You got Clarence. He's a real man." Ms. Chalice reminded her.
"You're right. I do." Gwen agreed.
Just then, Theresia approached their table.
"You there, four-eyes." Theresia insulted Gwen.
Gwen glared at Theresia.
"Excuse me?" Gwen asked sternly.
"I don't know what your game is, but you keep your dirty hands off my Keon!" Theresia warned.
"Save your breath shrew. I don't even want your dumb hunk of a boyfriend. I'm already engaged. He was just using me to get even with you." Gwen insulted.
"Ugh! I don't have time for bumpkins like you." Theresia insulted and turned to leave.
Gwen got up from her seat and grabbed Theresia's shoulders and turned her around.
"You wanna say that again?" Gwen asked, feeling anger rising in her.
"I don't have time for bumpkins like you." Theresia once again insulted.
"That's what I thought you said. Now, let me offer this as a rebuttal. I could afford manners if I were as rich as pathetic coquettes you." Gwen insulted, intimidating Theresia.
Gwen released Theresia and turned to her friends.
"Come on guys. Let's go." Gwen said.
They pack their dinner to go and leave the tavern. When they get outside, it was after dark.
"After dark already?" Mugman asked.
Temperance looked at her pocket watch.
"Yep. We should head to the western woods. That's where it's rumored to be haunted." Temperance said.
"Yeah! Let's see if that Headless creep's real or not!" Cuphead said excitedly.
"Well, we ain't got all night!" Ms. Chalice said.
The group make their way to the western woods. Gwen arms herself with her glowing ink pen while Temperance armed herself with her staff.
After a while of walking, they find nothing but night animals and owls hooting. Mugman started to feel scared and hugs Gwen's arm.
"It's okay buddy." Gwen assured him.
"Don't worry. I placed a protective spell on all of us." Temperance said.
"Oh, uh, thanks?" Cuphead said.
"You're welcome." Temperance said.
Just then, they hear the sound of a horse neighing. Gwen armed herself and prepared for a fight.
"W-w-w-what was that?!" Cuphead fearfully asked.
Gwen and Temperance prepare themselves for battle. Just then, they start to hear croaky voices.
"Headless Horseman! Headless Horseman!"
"Okay, this is getting out of hand." Ms. Chalice said, now feeling scared.
"Temperance, do you sense any ghostly presence?" Gwen asked.
"Oddly, no. I don't. This is something else." Temperance answered.
Suddenly without warning, a headless figure appeared from out of nowhere on a horse with a sword and a flaming pumpkin.
All the cups scream and run for their lives except for Gwen and Temperance who prepare themselves for battle.
"Well, who do we have here?" Gwen asked bravely.
"We're about to find out." Temperance added.
The Headless Horseman charges at the women, only for Gwen to fire her cyan beam attack at the horseman, knocking him off his horse.
Temperance raised her staff.
"Fulger!" Temperance yelled and a lightning bolt shot out of her staff at the horseman.
"Wow, you can fight?" Gwen asked impressed.
"A witch has to be ready to protect herself like you do." Temperance answered.
The Headless Horseman struggled to get up, only for the women to realize there were two bodies moving in the black cloak and outfit.
"What the? I don't think that's a ghost." Gwen said shockingly.
"That's because it isn't. They're living." Temperance pointed out.
"They?" Gwen asked.
"Look." Temperance said.
They looked and both bodies stand up. Gwen used telekinesis to pull off the cloak to reveal… Keon and Theresia in disguise.
"You two!" Gwen angrily exclaimed.
"How pitiful." Temperance insulted.
"You… you two are bewitched!" Koen exclaimed.
"It was supposed to be a prank and you cast spells on us!" Theresia exclaimed.
"We have to warn everyone!" Koen said fearfully.
"Oh… you won't be doing that." Temperance said grimly.
"Oh yeah? Watch us!" Theresia yelled.
"Gwen, will you do the honors?" Temperance asked.
"With pleasure." Gwen said as she pointed her glowing ink pen.
Before they could run, Gwen erased the couple's memories of their powers and collapsed to the ground.
The cups returned, noticing what just happened.
"Wait, it was those bullies the whole time?" Cuphead asked.
"Boy, did we get tricked." Mugman admitted.
"Don't worry guys. We had it under control." Gwen assured them.
"Are they okay?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"Don't worry. Gwen erased their memories of our magic. Now they will remember nothing of our attack." Temperance answered.
The couple got up, not having a clue what just happened.
"W-w-where am I?" Koen asked.
"I- I don't know." Theresia answered.
"That was a really bad fall you two had." Gwen lied.
"Fall?" Koen asked.
"Yes, you two tried to scare us in that horseman disguise but you fell off your horse and hit your heads." Temperance added and pointed to the disguise.
"Oh. Is that why my head hurts?" Koen asked.
"Mine too?" Theresia asked.
"Yes, now you two better go home and get some rest." Gwen advised.
Mugman approaches the couple on their horse.
"Here's your horsie." Mugman said.
The couple got up on their feet when the group suddenly hear a neighing noise.
"Oh, is that another horse?" Cuphead asked.
"I don't know." Koen said.
Suddenly another headless figure on a horse emerged from the trees.
"Oh great, another prankster?" Gwen asked unamused as she prepared to attack.
"Gwen, wait!" Temperance exclaimed.
But Gwen used telekinesis on the headless figure. She goes up to him to rip the disguise off.
"Okay, wise guy! Take it off! This joke's getting old!" Gwen yelled as she tried to rip off the costume.
"Uh, Gwen…?" Ms. Chalice asked nervously.
"That's not a disguise…" Mugman nervously added.
Gwen took one look at the headless figure and peeked down where his head used to be. Her eyes widened as she gasped and started to back up fearfully.
The group all realized it was the real Headless Horseman.
"G-G-G-G-Gwen can we…?" Cuphead nervously asked.
"RUN!" Gwen yelled.
The group ran for their lives as the real Headless Horseman got up on his horse and chased after the group. Koen and Theresia retreated back to Sleepy Hollow. The group ran in the woods until Gwen catches sight of a bridge.
"Guys! Head to the bridge! He can't get us if we get to the other side!" Gwen called.
They head to the bridge, and they all started crossing the bridge until they reached the other side. They notice the Headless Horseman trapped from the other side like he was barred from crossing.
"Nyah! Nyah! Nyah nyah! Nyah!" Cuphead taunted and blew a raspberry.
"Cuphead don't get him mad!" Mugman exclaimed.
"Why not?" Cuphead asked.
Just then, a flaming pumpkin was hurled at Cuphead, knocking his head off his body but he is unharmed.
"That's why." Gwen confirmed.
"Don't lose your head!" Ms. Chalice taunted.
Gwen took a look at the Headless Horseman struggling to control his horse.
"Guys? I think he's trying to get our attention." Gwen said.
"He wants to talk to you Gwen." Temperance said.
"What? Why does he want a word with me?" Gwen asked, confused.
"I think he needs your help." Temperance answered.
Gwen was shocked and looked at the Headless Horseman gesturing her to come over to him. She gulped and bravely walked on the bridge towards him.
"Gwen! What are you doing? He'll kill you!" Ms. Chalice called.
"Don't worry Chalice. I'll be fine." Gwen assured her.
Gwen continued with caution with her ink pen ready to defend herself. She was about 6 feet away towards the Headless Horseman.
"If I come to you, you promise not to chop my head off or my friends?" Gwen asked.
The Headless Horseman nodded. Gwen took a deep breath and walked toward him until she was close enough.
All three cups fearfully cover their eyes, preparing for the worst. The Headless Horseman pointed his sword at her magic inkwell then at her ink pen and finally one of her eyes.
"Huh?" Gwen asked.
"I think he's saying, 'magic inkwell, ink pen and an eye?" Temperance said, studying his movements.
Suddenly it clicked for Gwen.
"Wait! You want me to create an eyeball to see in your past?" Gwen asked.
The Headless Horseman nodded.
"But why?" Gwen asked.
The Headless Horseman pointed at where his head used to be.
"Oh… you wanna know who took your head and where it is now?" Gwen asked, figuring it out.
The Headless Horseman nodded.
"So, you can finally stop your rampage and rest in peace." Gwen concluded.
The Headless Horseman nodded again.
Gwen magically created an eyeball in her hand and held it up.
"Show me where the Headless Horseman's head is and who took it." Gwen said aloud.
The eyeball started glowing, then it floated in the air. Gwen reached her hands to the Headless Horseman.
"Hold on." Gwen instructed.
The Headless Horseman grabbed her hands as a white beam shot into Gwen's eyes, taking her into her subconscious.
Gwen opened her eyes and found herself in the Sleepy Hollow churchyard with the Headless Horseman next to her.
"Huh, we're back in Sleepy…" Gwen was about to say until the Headless Horseman put his finger on Gwen's lips, shushing her.
They both watched and notice blue-coated soldiers burying his body in a dug-up grave. Sometime after his burial, a cloaked figure with a shovel digs up the grave and retrieves the skull.
Gwen took a closer look at the hooded figure. He holds the skull in his hand as he pulled his hood off, revealing himself none other than the Devil himself.
"The Devil! He has your head!" Gwen exclaimed.
The Headless Horseman was shocked himself.
"Now, all we gotta do is find out where he took your head." Gwen said.
They move forward to another memory and find themselves in a room full of trophies and various items.
"Odd, I don't remember this room." Gwen said looking around.
Then, they notice the Devil opening the door with the head and placed it on a tall pedestal.
"Ah, another trophy to add to my collection." The Devil said gleefully then he leaves.
"So, that's' where your head is! In the Devil's trophy room!" Gwen said, solving the mystery.
The Headless Horseman used his sword and points at his head.
"So, you want me to go get it back for you and you'll stop your rampage once and for all?" Gwen asked.
The Headless Horseman nodded.
"Okay, deal." Gwen agreed.
They both shook their hands on it.
"Wake up! Wake up!" Gwen yelled.
The two were spirited back to their bodies as Gwen regained control of her subconscious.
Gwen goes up to her friends and explained the situation.
"That big jerk took his head! No wonder Headless was so cranky!" Cuphead exclaimed.
"That explains a lot." Mugman agreed.
"Yep. He needs our help. So, let's go get his head back." Gwen said.
Gwen was about to teleport when the Headless Horseman's horse neighed loudly.
"What? You wanna come too?" Gwen asked.
The Headless Horseman nodded.
"Okay, but no chopping off my friends' heads." Gwen stated her condition.
Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappeared.
They appear in the Devil's trophy room in Hell.
"Okay, we need to find the head on a pedestal." Gwen instructed.
The group started their search. Ms. Chalice shapeshifted into her ghost form and searched the higher shelves. Suddenly, she noticed a human skull in front of her, making her gasp.
"Chalice?" Temperance asked.
"Guys? I think I found it." Ms. Chalice said fearfully.
"Great! Bring it down here!" Gwen called.
"Girlfriend! I ain't touchin' a dead man's head!" Ms. Chalice complained.
"Ugh! Fine you big baby!" Gwen groaned and used her ink pen to lower the head down.
She held the head in her hands as Temperance looked at it.
"Wow, this really is the Headless Horseman's head." Temperance said, fascinated.
Mugman looked at it disgusted until he fainted.
The Headless Horseman approached the girls.
"Okay, a deal's a deal." Gwen said as she handed him the head.
The Headless Horseman took the head, put his head back on his shoulders, now making his body complete once again. The Headless Horseman nodded Gwen, showing his gratitude for her help. The Headless Horseman along with his horse suddenly disappeared into thin air, finally at peace.
"Wow, he's gone." Ms. Chalice said.
"Oh, wow." Mugman said as he woke up from fainting.
"Yes, the Headless Horseman now can finally rest in peace." Temperance said.
"Oh, wait." Gwen said, remembering something.
Gwen used her magic to create a decoy skull in place of the stolen skull.
"Good thinkin' Gwen." Cuphead said.
"Alright everyone. Let's all go home." Gwen said.
Gwen teleports the group out of Hell, drops off Temperance at her cottage and says goodbye then returns home to the Inkwell Isles with the cups and they all return to their homes and head off to bed.
Some time has passed, and Gwen noticed it was time to harvest the honey. Gwen puts on a beekeeper outfit and helmet to protect herself. Gwen evacuates all the worker and drone bees including the queen bee. Cuphead and Mugman join Gwen wearing beekeeper outfits and helmets.
"Alright Gwen, what do we gotta do first?" Cuphead asked.
"Well first, we open the hive." Gwen said, then she opened the lid of the hive.
Gwen grabs a bucket and a scraper.
"Then, I grab one honeycomb at a time, scrape the honey and beeswax into the bucket." Gwen said as she demonstrated.
Gwen puts the first honeycomb layer back then grabs a second layer.
"Here Cuphead, now you do it. But scape the honey and beeswax gently." Gwen instructed.
Cuphead takes the honeycomb and spatula. Gwen puts the bucket under the honeycomb. Cuphead started scraping the honey and beeswax in the bucket.
"There you go buddy. Now you're getting it." Gwen complimented.
"I knew I could do it." Cuphead bragged.
Gwen put the second honeycomb back and grabbed the third layer.
"Mugman, you wanna try?" Gwen asked.
"Yes Gwen." Mugman agreed.
Mugman takes the honeycomb as Gwen placed the bucket under the honeycomb. Mugman started scrapping the honey and beeswax into the bucket. They finish the other layers until the bucket was full.
After filling jars of all the collected honey with saving one jar for themselves, Rumor and her workers arrive to collect the honey and beeswax. After shaking hands, the bees leave with the honey and beeswax back to the Honeycomb Herald. Gwen and the cups enjoy some lunch with fresh bread and honey.
Gwen had a great adventure with her friends in Sleepy Hollow and helped a ghost in need of help to be at peace. The Devil never noticed his skull trophy was a decoy and still believed he still had it.
