RAW is WAR: 21/9/1998
RAW is WAR was live at Arco Arena in Sacramento, California. The show starts with the Rock making his way to the ring, where Mr. McMahon, Mankind, and Ken Shamrock are already there.
"Alright." Vince begins as the Rock's theme dies down. "Let me just say this, Stone Cold Steve Austin!"
'Austin! Austin! Austin!' The crowd chanted for the WWF Champion.
Vince ignored them. "Austin, if you're contemplating rushing this ring and savagely attacking me, Vince McMahon, you better think again!" Vince pointed to the stage and out came the Undertaker, Kane and the Bladewolf who stood there like bodyguards.
"Wait a minute." Jim Cornette started. "Protection."
"Smart move." Shane nodded.
"Business partners for protection." Cornette said.
"I can't think of any better business partners than those three." Shane added. "The Undertaker, Bladewolf and Kane!"
"Thank you very much." Vince nodded to the brothers before turning to the three men in the ring with him. "Alright gentlemen, let's get down to the business at hand; why i've asked you to join me here in this ring. Everyone knows that this Sunday on PPV, in the Fatal 4-Way match for the WWF Championship, that I have guaranteed that Stone Cold Steve Austin will no longer be the WWF Champion!"
The crowd booed in response.
"And you know, Jim Cornette, my pops is a man of his word." Shane bragged.
"I've heard that." Cornette nodded.
"And if you three gentlemen will listen for a moment, about to guarantee all three of you an opportunity of a lifetime." Vince said. "Before I do, I would also like to further state that I've ordered Austin, just to give you some idea as to what's going to happen this Sunday when Austin faces Undertaker, Kane and the Bladewolf. Austin, I know you can hear me. Let's give these fans a treat. Austin, you and someone other volunteer who wants to join you in this ring tonight..."
"What?" Cornette blinked.
"-Will have to face the most devastating trio in WWF history, the Undertaker, Kane and the Bladewolf here tonight!" Vince announced.
"No!" Cornette exclaimed as Shane laughed. "That's like a preview of Breakdown right here tonight!"
"My pops never ceases to amaze me." Shane chuckled.
"Now gentlemen." Vince addressed the Rock, Mankind and Shamrock. "I've sked you all three to come before us tonight to make certain that neither one of the three of you volunteer to be Stone Cold's partner."
"That's a smart move." Shane said as the crowd booed.
"Now, I know you've been there before." Vince said to Mankind, who nods. "I know. I'm not asking for any favours, because I don't ask for favours. I'm giving you the opportunity of a lifetime and I do that real well, I give opportunity. And what's the opportunity? it's real simple; why should you settle for anything less than what Kane, Bladewolf and Undertaker want? What they want is the WWF Championship. Why should you be allies against a common enemy when in fact all three of you should have a common goal, no less lofty than their goal as well? I would be proud if one of the three of you became the World Wrestling Federation Champion. And I can guarantee you that opportunity, just like I can guarantee that Austin, after this Sunday, will no longer be World Wrestling Federation Champion. All i'm asking that here tonight you don't volunteer to be Austin's partner, you take care of your own business. To hell with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Ken Shamrock, as WWF Champion, you came that close, Kenny. Rock, not just the People's Champion, the WWF Champion. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Mick, you can taste it. So Rock, if you smell what Vince McMahon is cooking, you will listen up because you damn sure don't want this smackdown. And Shamrock, you may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer as far as I'm concerned, but you're damn sure the most dangerous. And mankind-Mick... never mind. What I'm saying is, tonight, the opportunity is for one of you to be the #1 Contender. All you have to do is compete in this ring in a Triple Threat match. And the winner of this match will face the new WWF Champion in this very ring one week from tonight. Think about it. I'll even volunteer to be the guest ring announcer one week from tonight. All I can say is whomever it is you'll be facing, one week from tonight, damn sure won't be Stone Cold, thank you very much."
Undertaker's theme plays as Vince leaves the ring.
"Talk about having your cake and eating it, Shane." Cornette said as Vince walks up to join the Brothers of Destruction.
RAW then went to WWF Rewind, showing Jeff Jarrett's attack on Road Dogg with the guitar.
After the Oddities vs. The Headbangers match, Michael Cole was shown backstage with the Brothers of Destruction for an interview.
"Undertaker, Kane, Bladewolf, you've heard the warning from Stone Cold Steve Austin." Cole started. "And usually, Stone Cold is a man of his word."
"You know, Austin, you spew so much venom I believe it's starting to infect your own mind." Undertaker stated, glaring at the camera. "Who are you to warn us about anything? Son, you better take a long hard look at what's standing in front of you. Yes, we made a business deal with Vince McMahon, and I don't really care how you feel about it. The fact of the matter is is due to that business deal, we get our opportunity. Our opportunity at what? The World Wrestling Federation title. And one of us will take it and there's nothing that you can do about it. And tonight, you should spend a lot less time running your mouth and getting your final arrangements in order. Because if you show up in that ring by yourself, there's going to be a funeral."
The brothers then took their leave.
It was time for the Brothers of Destruction to face Stone Cold Steve Austin and whomever was going to team with him.
In the arena, Undertaker's theme hit and the lights went out before the pyro exploded on the stage, and out comes the Brothers of Destruction to a huge ovation from the crowd.
"The following three-on-two Handicap contest is scheduled for one-fall with a twenty-minute time limit. Approaching the ring with a combined weight of 964 lbs... KANE, THE BLADEWOLF AND THE UNDERTAKER!" Tony Chimel announced.
"Yeah, there's Kane, Bladewolf and Undertaker!" Shane cheered. "My pops' business associates! We're just six days away from the crowning of a new World Wrestling Federation Champion! But which one will it be? Will it be Kane? Will it be Bladewolf? Will it be Undertaker? OR will Austin manage to slip through another one?"
"How can one man, Shane, fight these three monsters?" Cornette questioned.
Undertaker walks up the steps while Kane and Bladewolf get onto the ring apron. Undertaker raises his arms, turning the lights back to normal, then the brothers enter the ring. The Phenom's theme dies down, and as soon as it did, Stone Cold Steve Austin's theme hits.
"And their opponent, from Victoria, Texas, weighing 252 lbs, the World Wrestling Federation Champion... STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN!" Tony Chimel announced before leaving the ring.
Austin walks up the steps and stands on the ring apron, staring down the Brothers of Destruction who stare right back.
As Austin looks ready to enter the ring, DX's theme hits and out comes Billy Gunn.
"Wait a minute!" Cornette exclaimed. "D-generation X member, Billy Gunn!"
Gunn makes his way towards the ring, and even Austin is surprised to find out Billy Gunn is going to be his partner tonight. As Gunn starts to enter the ring, both he and Austin are quickly attacked by the Brothers of Destruction, causing the referee to quickly call for the bell to begin the match.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
"Oh man, we're starting off!" Shane exclaimed. Kane and Bladewolf took Gunn into the corner, taking turns in kanding punches. "Kane, Bladewolf and Gunnin one corner, Austin and the Undertaker in the other corner! Here we go!"
Bladewolf lands a big right hand, knocking Gunn down and he rolls out of the ring but Bladewolf and Kane quickly follow him out to continue their assault. In the ring, Undertaker continued to go at it with Austin in the corner, landing big shots to the midsection of the WWF Champion. Undertaker then irish whips Austin into the opposite corner hard, causing Austin to clutch his back in pain as he stumbled out and away from the Phenom.
"Man." Shane shook his head.
"I have got to wonder what Billy Gunn is thinking." Cornette said. Bladewolf sent Gunn into the barricade, allowing Kane to start stomping away on his chest. "He's going to bring Vince McMahon down on all the members of DX. Is he trying to stir up trouble? Are all the members of DX in on this?"
Undertaker lands an uppercut on Austin, then another right shot to the chin. Undertaker briefly takes his attention off Austin to see his brothers dismantling Billy Gunn outside the ring. When eh turns to refocus on Austin, the Texas Rattlesnake quickly attacks with repeated kicks to the midsection of the Phenom, then comes out with a right hand, driving the Undertaker back.
"Austin going at it right now!" Shane shouted. Austin lands another right hand, getting Undertaker on the ropes. "Wham! He's battling the Undertaker back! Not an easy task to do!"
Austin Irish whips Undertaker off the ropes. The Phenom rebounds, ducks a right from Austin who charges into the ropes. They both rebound off opposite ropes but Undertaker lands a leaping clothesline which takes the WWF Champion down.
"Ohh!" Shane exclaimed.
"Oh!" Cornette winced.
"Woo!" Shane whooped.
We have got action all over!" Cornette said. Outside the ring, Billy Gunn had managed to fight back against Bladewolf and Kane, raking the eyeholes of Bladewolf's mask, then reverses an Irish whip by Kane which sends the Big Red Monster into the steel steps.
"Oh! Kane!" Shane shouted. "Nice! On in the World Wrestling Federation you see action like this!"
In the ring, Undertaker and Austin had gotten to their feet, Undertaker hitting an uppercut that rocks Austin onto the ropes. The Undertaker Irish whips Austin, who bounces off the ropes, ducks a right from Taker, bounds off the ropes again as Undertaker turns around... AND TAKES HIM DOWN WITH THE LOU THEZ PREZ!
"Thez Prez!" Cornette shouted. "Thez Prez! And Austin's all over him!"
Austin gets to his feet, rebounds off the ropes, raising his arms up and then brings an elbow down onto Undertaker. As this was going on, Billy Gunn climbed onto the ring apron while Bladewolf and Kane went to the opposite side to stand in their corner. Austin pulls Undertaker to his feet, wrenching on the arm before he tags Billy Gunn in. Austin held Undertaker open, to which Gunn lands a kick to the Phenom, then focuses on the left arm, wrenching it or yanking on it.
"And now Billy Gunn." Cornette said. "Billy Gunn has got to be fatigued. He's already wrestled one match tonight!"
Undertaker grabs Gunn by the throat and throws him into the corner, then lands a punch to the man's face. then lands a second punch. Undertaker scares the referee back, then lunges at Gunn for a third punch only for Gunn to duck and avoid it, getting Undertaker into the corner now. Gunn unloads with a series of right punches, then pulls the Lord of Darkness out of the corner to irish whip him off the ropes. However, Undertaker reverses and aims for the big boot but Gunn ducks it
"Oh, missing with the boot now!" Shane caught. Undertaker bends down for a back body drop but Gunn scouted it and... HITS THE UT! "Yeah!"
"Oh!" Cornette exclaimed.
Gunn hooks the Undertaker's leg.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Thr-!"
Undertaker kicks out at two.
"No." Shane shakes his head.
Gunn pulls Undertaker over to his corner and tags in Austin who comes in, landing a kick to Undertaker midsection, then grabs the left arm to twist around it. However, Undertaker reversed, twisting around Austin, and pulls him into a clothesline.
"Oh!" Shane exclaimed. "Taker clothesline! Man, devastating!"
"This Sunday, these three men, the Undertaker, Kane and the Bladewolf are going to be in the same ring with Steve Austin, only Austin's going to have no help." Cornette said. Undertaker pulls Austin over and tags in Bladewolf. "It's a Fatal 4-Way match."
Undertaker holds Austin, allowing Bladewolf to land a boot to Austin's midsection.
"And the Undertaker, Kane and the Bladewolf know that." Cornette continued as the crowd got an 'Austin!' chant going.
Austin scrambled into the corner and turned into a right hand from Bladewolf, dropping him again. Bladewolf gets Austin sitting in the corner before he presses his boot down on Austin's head, causing the WWF Champion to yell in pain while the referee started the five count, getting to four when Bladewolf let up and whirled on the referee who quickly backed off from the Demon Wolf.
"Austin and Bladewolf, a well-known history there." Shane said.
Bladewolf stomps on Austin's chest, then lands a big right hook to the forehead. Bladewolf pulls Austin to his feet, then rams his head off the top turnbuckle. Bladewolf adjusts his right elbow pad before approaching Austin, who quickly starts fighting back with frantic kicks to Bladewolf's midsection, then comes out the corner with a fury of punches that drive Bladewolf back a step before Austin reverses their positions, now Bladewolf is in the corner.
Austin goes for an Irish whip, but Bladewolf reverses it. Austin collides with the corner and lunges just as Bladewolf did, taking the Intercontinental Champion down with a clothesline.
"Oh! Austin coming out!" Shane said. "you gotta give Stone Cold respect! He is one ass kicking machine!"
Bladewolf leans on the middle rope, and Austin bounces off the opposite ropes, charging to drive his leg into the back of the Demon Wolf then goes for the cover.
"Going for the cover!" Shane shouted.
"One!"
"Two-!"
Bladewolf kicks out, shoving Austin off him.
"Only a two count." Shane said.
Austin grabs Bladewolf, pulling him to his feet. He walks them over to his corner, tagging in Billy Gunn who comes in and lands a kick to the ribcage of Bladewolf. Gunn grabs the arm and twists around it, only for Bladewolf to pull him into a goozle which he tightens, almost choking Gunn who clutches at his arm. Bladewolf throws Gunn into his corner, causing Gunn to bounce off and Bladewolf floors him with a big boot to the face.
"Oh!" Shane and Cornette winced at the impact.
"Man, what a boot!" Shane commented.
Bladewolf tags in Kane, holding Gunn down for Kane to run, hit the ropes and come back with a running elbow drop to the chest of Gunn. Bladewolf gets to his feet and exits the ring onto the apron.
"Now Kane in." Cornette said.
Kane pulls Gunn to his feet, though Gunn stumbles back against the ropes as he was still trying to shake off the cobwebs from the boot to the head by Bladewolf. Kane takes advantage by clotheslining Gunn over the top rope, sending him to the floor outside the ring.
"Sent to the outside now." Shane said. "it's gut-check time for Billy Gunn."
Undertaker drops down from the apron to grab Gunn and rams his head off the steel steps. Undertaker tosses Gunn back into the ring, where Kane goes on the attack with a stomp to the chest of Gunn. Kane pulls Gunn to his feet, scoops him up and powerslams him to the mat, then brings his elbow down onto the man's head.
"kane is pulling out all types of stops from the aresenal." Shane said.
Kane grabs Gunn's arm and turns, holding his hand out to let Undertaker make the tag. Undertaker enters the ring, landing a kick to Gunn's ribcage, followed by a right uppercut that sends Gunn down onto his back. Undertaker eyes Gunn, then gets down to press his hand onto Gunn's face, then shifts to grip his neck, choking him. Undertaker pushes a weak Gunn onto his back, hooking the leg.
"Oh here we go." Shane said.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Thr-!"
Gunn kicks out at two.
"And no!" Shane exclaimed.
Undertaker gets to his feet, then pulls Gunn to his. He Irish whips the DX member off the ropes and bends down, but Gunn lands a kick to the shoulder which snaps Undertaker upright with a cold glare on his face.
"Watch out!" Shane shouted just before Undertaker floors Billy Gunn with a huge clothesline. "Oh!"
Undertaker gets to his feet, then lunges right at Austin, clobbering the WWF Champion with a right hook.
"Austin got nailed by Taker!" Shane said. Austin is in the ring but the referee keeps him back. "Austin is fired up now!"
Undertaker pulls Gunn over to his brothers, who enter the ring and start assaulting Gunn in the corner with punches and kicks.
"And look at this, all he's doing is diverting the referee's attention!" Cornette said as Bladewolf gets out onto the apron with Undertaker, letting Kane be the legal man.
"Billy Gunn is in the wrong corner." Shane stated. the camera got a shot of Austin's intense look. "Oh, look at the intensity in Austin. Wouldn't want to meet Stone Cold in a dark alley."
Kane pulls Gunn to his feet, then lifts him up only for Gunn to counter as he lands behind Kane. Gunn runs, rebounds off the ropes, only to come running right into a huge big boot from the Big Red Machine.
"Oh!" Shane and Cornette exclaimed at the sight.
"good night!" Shane added.
Kane goes for the cover.
"One!"
"Two-!"
Austin breaks it up with a kick to Kane.
"Smart move." Shane nodded. "Austin saving the match, saving his partner."
Kane drags Gunn over to his corner, to which Undertaker is tagged in. Undertaker lands a forearm to the back of Gunn, while Kane brings his forearm down onto Gunn's back from his position, and Bladewolf punches Gunn in the face from where he stood on the ring apron.
"The brothers getting their shots in." Cornette said.
Kane gets out onto the ring apron as Undertaker starts the assault on Billy Gunn, landing a right hook to the forehead, followed by a boot to the midsection, then a sharp right to the jaw. Kane is now sat in the corner, and Undertaker tags in Bladewolf before pressing his boot into Gunn's face. Undertaker then stops and gets out onto the ring apron. Bladewolf then charges and drives his knee into the chest of Billy Gunn.
"Oh!" Cornette winced.
"Ouch." Shane nodded.
Bladewolf gets to his feet, flipping his hair back. He grabs Billy Gunn, turning him around, wraps his arms around him and then sends him off his feet in a release German Suplex.
"Oh God!" Shane laughed.
"German Suplex sending Billy Gunn flying across the ring!" Cornette said. Gunn weakly stretched his arm out towards Austin who has his arm out, trying to make the tag. "And Austin, trying to get Gunn back into this!"
Bladewolf walks over and grabs Gunn from behind and sends him flying with another release German Suplex.
"Oh, and another one!" Shane shouted. Bladewolf stares down Austin who glares at him then gives him the middle finger, to which Bladewolf ignores. "Austin trying to piss off the Bladewolf but it ain't gonna work."
Bladewolf walks over to Gunn and grabs him from behind, going for a third German Suplex... BUT BILLY GUNN LANDS ON HIS FEET!
"Woah!" Shane's eyes widened.
"he landed on his feet!" Cornette shouted.
Bladewolf turns... INTO AN ENZUGURI! Bladewolf is rocked as he falls to a knee, shaking his head. Gunn takes advantage as he wraps his arm around his head and... HITS THE DDT!
"And a DDT!" Cornette shouted. "Can Billy Gunn make the tag to Austin?!"
Austin is stomping on the steel steps, the crowd are slapping the barricades or clapping, trying to fuel Billy Gunn up as he slowly begins to crawl towards Austin who has his hand outstretched. He was halfway there... WHEN BLADEWOLF SITS UP!
"Uh-oh!" Shane exclaimed.
"Bladewolf sat up!" Cornette added.
Bladewolf gets to his feet and sees what's happening. He walks over and grabs onto Gunn's leg, forcing the man to balance on one leg but Gunn leaps... AND MAKES THE TAG TO AUSTIN!
the crowd explodes as Austin comes in, unloading on Bladewolf with right hands.
"Right hand! Right hand! Austin is pissed off!" Shane shouted.
Undertaker attempts to attack Austin from behind but Austin goes for the Stunner, only for Undertaker to shove him forward. Austin quickly counters it by kicking Bladewolf in the stomach... AND NAILS THE STONE COLD STUNNER ON HIM!
"Stunner!" Cornette shouted.
Austin hooks the legs.
"One!"
"Two-!"
Undertaker pulls Austin off, but Billy Gunn comes in to clobber him. Kane is now in but Austin quickly attacks him, clotheslining him over the top rope, then clotheslines Bladewolf over the top rope. Bladewolf lands on his feet, then pulls Austin out through the bottom rope, where he and Kane quickly start ganging up on Austin.
In the ring, Undertaker is going at it with Billy Gunn, knocking the referee down at some point. He then grabs Gunn by the throat, lifts him up... AND PLANTS HIM WITH A CHOKESLAM!
"Chokeslam by Taker!" Shane shouted.
Undertaker goes for the cover.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three!" The referee calls for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Undertaker's theme plays as the Phenom gets to his feet, then starts stomping on Billy Gunn as Kane and Bladewolf enter the ring to join their brother in the assault.
"Undertaker, Kane and Bladewolf... the most destructive force in the World Wrestling Federation." Cornette said.
"Look out! Austin!" Shane warned as Austin grabs a steel chair and slides into the ring.
"He's got a steel chair!" Cornette shouted.
Undertaker turns... AND GETS STRUCK IN THE HEAD WITH THE CHAIR! Austin then... WHACKS THE CHAIR OFF BLADEWOLF'S SKULL! And... DOES THE SAME TO KANE!
"My God!" Cornette shook his head.
Austin leaves the ring and makes his way up the walkway as his theme plays. in the ring, the Brothers of Destruction sit up, getting back to their feet. Undertaker has an enraged expression as he glares at Austin, who just gives him the middle finger before going backstage.
RAW went to a commercial break.
It was the main event, which was the Rock vs Mankind vs Ken Shamrock. Winner gets a WWF title shot next week on RAW. During the break, Mankind talks with Michael Cole.
In the ring, Mankind sits in the corner while Shamrock and the Rock trade blows. Mankind winds up working with the Rock momentarily as they stomp Shamrock down. There's a double-team clothesline on Shamrock, but then Mankind turns on the Rock. He catches Rock with the Cactus Clothesline out in front of Corny and Shane. Shamrock takes out Mankind with a baseball slide. Shamrock then starts controlling the violence at ringside.
He takes Mankind back in the ring, but Mankind pounds Shamrock down into a corner for the running knee. Shamrock surprises Mankind with a back suplex while the Rock comes back in the ring to put the boots to them. He lays the Smackdown on Mankind, but here comes Shamrock to walk into the slam to set up the People's Elbow. Crowd goes NUTS for it.
Rock then heaves Shamrock to the floor and pounds on Mankind, but he misses a wild swing and takes a Double-Arm DDT. Rock avoids a corner charge though, but Shamrock trips him up and there's a ringside battle over at the announce table. Shamrock whips Rock into the barricade and levels Rock with a clothesline. Back in, Shamrock goes after Mankind, but nearly gets the Mandible Claw applied on him. Shamrock gets away from Mankind for the ground and pound. Time for a sleeperhold. Mankind is bleeding at the bruised area he suffered at the hands of Kane back at SummerSlam.
Rock gets in the ring and applies the sleeperhold on Shamrock for the TRIPLE SLEEPER JAWBREAKER SPOT.
With everybody down, Undertaker, Bladewolf and Kane head down followed by Vince McMahon.
Mankind gets the MANDIBLE CLAW on Rock, but Shamrock breaks it up and gives Mankind the Belly to Belly Suplex. There's the ANKLELOCK, but the Rock taps him on the shoulder and Shamrock lets go of the hold thinking he's won only to turn around into a clothesline. ROCK BOTTOM to Shamrock! Cover, 1-2-NO! Mankind makes the save.
As he stands near the ropes, Undertaker then pulls Mankind out to the floor
"Oh come on!" Cornette threw a hand up.
Bladewolf stomps away on Mankind, then pulls him to his feet and throws him into the steel steps hard. The brothers set upon Mankind, stomping on him.
Apparently, ref Earl Hebner didn't see it. Hebner tries to send them out, but McMahon plays innocent.
Meanwhile, Rock finds the Hurricane DDT and gets two. It seems Vince wants the Rock to win. Shamrock finds the Hurracanrana and follows up with a powerslam for two. Rock sends Shamrock to the floor, which allows Undertaker, Bladewolf and Kane to attack him.
"Uh-oh!" Shane exclaimed as Undertaker punches Shamrock.
"And now, there's Undertaker, Bladewolf and Kane!" Conrette said.
The brothers take their shots in on Shamrock, then once he's laid out, they enter the ring to face down the Rock. The Rock doesn't back down as he attacks Kane, but Bladewolf punches him down. The trio get the Rock into the corner and unload with kicks and punches to the People's Champion, the Rock unable to defend himself from the three-on-one assault.
Undertaker barks orders at his brothers, who grab the Rock by the throat together. They pull him out of the corner and to the middle of the ring, lift him up... AND PLANT HIM WITH A DOUBLE CHOKESLAM!
With all three contenders down and out, the match ends in a no-contest. There's no winner.
Vince backs up, gesturing for the brothers to follow. As they exit the ring... STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN ATTACKS VINCE FROM BEHIND!
Austin quickly attacks Vince, then is run off by the Brothers of Destruction.
RAW is WAR soon goes off the air...
And that's it for this chapter. I'm thinking of just stopping the commentary, because while it can extend the writing, it is getting annoying to include and feels like a last second inclusion. Not all wrestling stories feature the commentary. Besides, just go on YouTube, find the show that took place and you'll hear the commentary there.
