So... We're mostly told that Jaune is a clever strategist in RWBY and... We mostly don't see that. Hence why fanfiction's taken up the slack.
Written with WanderingReader.
Jaune confronted the insanely dangerous terrorist Adam Taurus in the library, the injured Blake Belladonna on the floor between them. He had crash landed his rocket locker nearby. He had his sword and shield out, as Adam glared death at him.
"J-Jaune... Please run...!" Blake begged.
"Too late," Adam stated. "Your pet human can't protect you, mi amor."
He lifted his sword up.
"Any last words, human?"
Jaune took a deep breath.
"Yeah," his eyes went wide and he pointed behind Adam, "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!"
Blake gaped at this.
Wha... Is that his idea?! There's no way he could-!
Adam turned and stared back.
"What? What is it, you worthless-?"
Jaune turned, threw Blake over his shoulder, and ran for his life out the door.
"... How... How did that work?!" Blake gasped.
Jaune grinned.
"I'm very convincing when I have to be!"
Adam roared in rage, and unleashed a Moonslice right through the wall behind Jaune. Blake gaped at him. He grinned, though far more nervously.
"And a VERY fast runner!"
Alternatively...
Jaune took a deep breath before steeling himself. Then he smirked.
"Just a few. Would you like to see a neat trick I learned from a family friend?"
"And what's that?" Adam demanded.
"Right behind you."
Blake's eyes widened as the world decided to make a whole lot less sense.
"Hah! You expect me to fall for some simple trick like that!?"
Jaune's smirk didn't fade. If anything, he looked even more smug.
"Too late."
Unfortunately for Adam, he had failed to notice the large Atlesian mech stepping out from behind a column that couldn't have possibly covered the whole thing previously. Even more unfortunately, he continued to fail to notice it before taking a rather large blast to the back of the head and being sent flying off as the mech moved to pursue.
Blake just lay there for a moment as her eyes shifted between the mech's impossible hiding place and Jaune.
"What... Why was there a- HOW was there a-!?"
"Like I said, I learned it from a family friend. Old Man Creed always told me how important it was to plan ahead for worst-case scenarios."
"But how did it even fit there!?"
"Not important; I'll explain later. For now..."
Jaune walked over and drew Blake up into a bridal carry.
"Let's focus on getting you somewhere safe, alright?"
Caught in a mixture of confusion, relief, and no small degree of embarrassment over her current positioning, the overwhelmed cat-faunus could only nod.
"Honestly, it wasn't even that Impressive. Now, some of the stories that Old Man Creed would tell you about his days in the Great war, THAT is some impressive stuff..."
And so Jaune jogged off to find a safe place to drop off his wounded and totally-not-blushing classmate while regaling to her the tale of a man that once hid an entire tank column in an empty field.
