It was a nice and warm late summer day. A breeze brought some fresh air with it, keeping the temperature in check. We are here in Immenshafen, a small city in Germany situated at a bay leading into the North Sea. In this particular town there was a central shopping street with a beloved ice cream shop. It is here where we meet four teenagers, they often hang out around this place, especially during summer times.
"You know, you could lay that to the side and relax a bit." Ann says directed at another girl at the table who keeps meddling with something that looks like a small ball connected to a rotor, while also looking at her smartphone.
"I could, but as always I like to keep 'playing' with it." Sophia responds. Then she releases the ball from her hand as the rotor springs to life and the little drone lifts into the air. The bottom part of the ball was made out of transparent material and houses a lens. It is currently fixed on the four teenagers and pressing a button on her phone, Sophia adds another picture of them to her library. After that the drone lands softly in her hand again.
"Nice. Show us the pic." Mats says with anticipation. He often helps out with Sophia's project since he is good with tools. Be it a car, furniture or else. He got that from his father and grandfather who are craftsmen and mechanics. He learns a lot from them. "Also you never told us how your show went."
"It was great. With our performance we sure will be casted for music videos or bigger events next time." Till respond. He and Ann are part of a local dancing school. They act as a duo performing street and hip hop style.
"I doubt it though. It was just a small regional competition."
"Hey, you want to be big. If you put more effort in it we might have been to other competition already." Till voices his concern.
"You are right."
"Here are your orders." A waitress approached them balancing a tablet with cubs of ice cream. One after another she puts a bowl in front of the four friends before leaving them with their ice and some parting words.
"Oh after this I have to go", Till announces.
"Are you working again?" Ann looks at her friend with worried eyes.
"Yeah gotta keep the cash flowing, you know?" He replies more jokingly.
Our four friends eat their ice cream while continuing their chatter. Though after finishing it Till gets up to get to his working place. "Sorry but I really have to go now."
"We see you and don't overdo it." Ann worrily looks at Till.
He smiles back. "Don't worry so much. I'll be fine." He then rushes out to head to the nearest bus stop where he helps someone in a wheelchair to board the bus. After that he follows in, being greeted by the driver.
"I really hope he is not overdoing it." Sophia looks at the other three.
"Yeah he did that before. I know he needs it to pay the fee for our dance school, but still."
"We can't force him, we need to be there for him when he needs us." Mats nodded at the others. Understanding where they come from, but also Till.
They have finished their ice at this point and are about to pay their bill. Everyone will go home from here. Sophia puts her little drone in a bag that hangs on the side of her chair and our friends stand up.
Matt was about to say something, while going backwards for a bit. A bad idea as he immediately bumped into someone. The boon of having a table at the edge where other people might pass by. Immediately though he turned around.
"I am sorry. I wasn't looking." The woman he bumped into immediately responded in english because so far the friends talked in germany.
"I also didn't watch where I was going. I am sorry miss." Matt responds and helps the woman up, while Sophia and Ann help out by picking up and giving her back the stuff she lost. And that was a small handbag and her phone, luckily it took no damage.
"Is everything alright?" Ann asks.
"It is." The woman hesitates for a moment. "I am looking for the Harmony Pfad Dojo. I hope I spelled it correctly." She pointed at her phone. "The navigation showed me a path blocked by a construction site."
"Oh yeah that road work started just a couple of days ago." Matt responds. "For the Dojo you can just follow this road a bit and turn left at the next junction and then follow till the end and it should be at the left corner of that junction. This road actually runs parallel to the one the nav probably showed."
"It is a small pathway connecting the road for pedestrians." Sophia adds. "I can walk you there if you want."
"Thank you."
With that Sophia parts from Ann and Matt while guiding the woman to her destination. Leaving only two friends remaining in front of the ice cream shop. Though wanting to go home they soon have to part ways too. They walk to the bus station and wait for their bus. "I heard at school that some martial arts instructor from the States is currently visiting that Dojo. I think that instructor was called Jason Lee Scott." Matt remembers some from his class talking about it. Though at that time he wasn't all that interested. But this town isn't known as a tourist spot which makes visitors from other countries rare so he remembered.
"I see." Ann isn't thrilled by that news. She doesn't really like fighting as such she doesn't really pay attention to any sports relating to it or any fighting school. She knows they exist and that is it. Also her bus arrives as such she has to go. "See you tomorrow."
"Yep." Matt replies they embrace in a friendly hug before he is left alone. Luckily though his bus will arrive in only a couple of minutes at least he doesn't have to wait for long.
Sophia in the meantime brings the woman to the dojo. There they are greeted by the owner who seems to be on his way back, as he just opened the front door.
"You must be Miss Kwan I suppose." The owner turns around, while speaking to them. "I think he is still training with his student Tobu Nobus. You can come in if you may. You don't need to wait outside."
Sophia, having fulfilled her role as a guide, felt like she does not need to stick around anymore. "I wish you a good day."
"You too and thank you for showing me the way."
With that Sophia leaves them alone while making her way back home as well a bit later than her friends, after leading Trini Kwan to that Dojo.
While keeping the guard up and a somewhat low profile a young man kicks at a striking target worn by another man who is a couple of years older. First hit is with the instep before the younger man uses the momentum to come in with the sole after extending the other leg, pushing into the target and even forcing the coach to take a step back. Using his arms to brace the fall and the spinning rotation the younger one quickly gets back up and into a fighting stance.
"That is enough for today." That man is Jason Lee Scott and he is now putting the striking targets away before snatching two towels, throwing one at the young man.
Catching the towel the young man bows respectfully. "Thank you for your teaching." Under his green shirt one can clearly see that he works out and trains regularly. "Our training helped me a lot."
"I should probably say that it is a great responsibility you load on yourself, but having worked with you for a couple of days I am sure you are aware of it." Both are using the towel wiping sweat from their face. "But I am still impressed how you managed to do that."
"It wasn't easy and they are not the same. I used the design and such, but in a way they are recreations. I did use whatever part was left though." The younger man called Tobu explains. "The most crucial part though was their energy source. I had to work on that for a long time."
"I bet Billy would love to talk with you about that."
"I haven't met him yet." Tobu really would like to meet all of them. It could be a great help for him to learn more. About their past and what it means to be one. Though at this point there is no turning back for him, as there ever was one for him.
Both men change clothes and take a quick shower before they step into the small reception hall at the entrance. There they are greeted by Trini.
"You must be Tobu."
"It is a pleasure to meet you." Tobu bows as a show of respect. "If you like I can show you them."
"I've seen them already but I wouldn't mind." Jason responds.
"That is one reason why I am here."
After saying their goodby to the owner they use Tobu's car and drive a bit outside the city. On a hill stands a big building. It seems to be mostly made out of concrete. With a dome on top that has a resemblance of an observatory. What is striking is the lack of windows. From the surrounding area the highest point near and far was chosen. Hidden behind a solid metal gate is a way to a small underground parking lot. Using a lift and following a hallway they get into a room with multiple consoles arranged in a circle. Multiple screens are stripped to the walls or rather built into it seems. Once they enter the light turns on in just the right intensity.
"Well this is the command center I built." Nobu shows them around.
"I never thought about it back then, but how did you manage to build all of this while keeping your secret?" Jason asks.
Tobu shrugs. "It wasn't easy. Especially since the bureaucracy in Germany usually takes like forever. But I managed to build up some connections. Also most of the interior I did myself."
"That is impressive." Jason admits.
"Jason look." Trini stands in a corner before a small pedestal containing five golden coins. "This is even more impressive." She proclaims.
"You really recreated all of it?" Jason asks.
"Well it was my first attempt so it was the easiest to work with something that existed." It still isn't an easy task but he managed to finish it. "Officially this is a research institute, and this central room is the mainframe room where all the databases are saved. Only a selected few so far know the real purpose." Tobu then shows Justin and Trini around the facility.
Somewhere in deep space a dark spaceship makes its way. Within lies something akin to a throne room. In this dark room someone sits on a pillow as someone enters the room. "Mylord, we will arrive soon."
"I am no lord." When standing up some lights turn on giving view on a creature half human half horse. It was of bright white color. "I have told you that so many times."
Opposite of the centaur stands a figure in black robe. Shadowy dark mist wobbles out from underneath and the sleeves. Wearing a hood the face is hidden underneath. "Excuse me, but for me you are. You are the most magnificent creature I have ever met."
Groaning the centaur turns to face the other side. "Continue with your report."
"The world we are approaching is called earth by its inhabitants. And it seems that whenever it is threatened a small team of five shows up to defend it."
"What type of threats?" The leader keeps his gaze out in the dark void of space.
"From my research it seems to have been Lord Zedd and the Machine Empire on another occasion. None seems to have managed to conquer earth."
"They should be formidable warriors." That is more mumbled to itself as the centaur speaks up once more. "Jador call everyone to me. I, your Captain Cereas, will announce our next action."
"As you wish mylord." Under another mourning Jador leaves the room and his captain to himself, while calling others to him.
It only takes a couple of hours, before a larger group gathers in the room. Cereas stands in front of them all.
"We will soon arrive at a planet called earth." He starts his little speech. The group he has seems to be a mixture of undeads. You have skeletons, zombies and the likes all hanging around in the same room right now. "That place is said to have formidable fighters, protectors of their world. Otherwise I don't see anything of value. Still that group is worth my time and thus our time. I will recruit them whatever it takes."
No one speaks. It's not like they can't, no one dares to speak when Cereas speaks. He normally commands without many words that is all it takes to spring to action.
"Now it would be easy to get them by our usual methods. That is why I want to change things. I want them alive. If they are as strong as claimed they will be a great asset to us. Whether that is alive or not, I will decide after we capture them. For that we will test their strength. Be prepared. As soon as we arrive we will begin. And we should arrive in." He looks at Jador.
"Mylord we should arrive at half a jemnach."
"That is still so long. Urgh you came to me too early." Cereas looks frustrated for a bit. "Well, do the preparation. I will wait here." Traveling through space is just too boring.
On the next day our four teenagers meet again. On with their daily life they go to school. Unfortunately they are not all together in the same class, and since their schedule for today is quite packed meeting each other has to wait for after class ends for today. After that though they are free to go and stick together. So as usual they go to the central shopping street. Today they accompany Sophia who needs new supply for her drones and electronics she works on. Maintenance. Repair. New models. For everything she needs the right parts. So that means shopping.
After school they meet at the bus stop right next to it.
"How was your day?" Ann asks without having anyone specific in mind.
"Everything as usual. It's a new school year." Till answers first.
"Yeah. It seems that the new research institute will not open for a while. Was hoping we might be able to go there soon." Sophia notes. She really would like to know what they are researching there. It is such a solid structure. Kinda like a bunker.
"You will get your chance. I am sure of it." Ann replies. She knows that her friend is sort of a science nerd and thus she was the most happy when she heard about it. "You wanted to buy stuff again. A new project of yours?"
"Kinda but I also run low on some stuff."
"Gonna grab them then." Mats says.
"Yeah, but Ann and me do have dance practice later."
They enter the bus that brings them towards the central shopping street.
Around the same time though Jason and Tobu are out at an airport. Jason has to fly back to home.
"Thank you again for your tutoring. It was a great help."
"You were a great student." Jason replies. "If you need anything, you can call me."
Both firmly shake hands, before Jason has to check in on his flight. "Trini is leaving soon as well. You need a team, it always has to be a team."
"I know. I am searching for candidates, as of speaking the computer is running through the data. I hope to find them soon."
"I wish you luck." They shake hands a last time before Jason adds quietly so no one hears them. "And may the power protect you." With these final parting words Jason moves on to board his flight, while Tobu heads back to his car and drives back into town.
Again at the same time the ship came to a halt. It was a lengthy ship with a bulky bow and a somewhat gothic architecture. Staying shy of earth's orbit it is camouflaged against the darkness of space.
On the throne room Cereas looks at the blue sphere. Somewhere on that planet his new crewmates live. He wonders how strong are they exactly.
"Mylord." Jador enters the room. "I have scanned the planet for its lifeforms and civilisations. It seems there are currently no Power Rangers active."
"Maybe they only come out when there is a threat then." Cereas moves through the room to grab a crossbow. "I will go down and see if I can draw them out."
"Mylord let me or Jador go. There is no reason for you."
"Do you think those Power Rangers could defeat me?" Cereas growls at his general.
"No, of course not." Jador was stepping back a bit and bows deeply. "I apologise."
"Tell me where I should go. Any energy readings."
"I couldn't pinpoint it." With a wave of skinny hands a wall of green smoke appears between the two. It forms a ring and in between the ring earth is shown, focusing on a particular coast in europe. "In that area I have some energy readings that differ from other places. Though it seems to be only small traces and masked so I couldn't exactly tell where."
"Then I will visit that place." Cereas uses the crossbow to point at a city. "Make sure our ship stays hidden."
"Yes. Mylord."
"You got everything?" Ann asks Sophia as they exit an electronic retailer.
"Yes. But I also ordered beforehand." She responds.
The four friends start walking down the streets. Since it is hot again they opted to go for ice cream again before Ann and Till are heading out for their practice.
"Good that you have found everything. I would like some new shoes for dancing." Till desires. "But I don't think we have the time."
"We could skip the ice cream." Mats suggests.
"Nah. Its good. It isn't like I need them right now."
They continue to walk to their favorite place. Suddenly the sky darkens as clouds cover it entirely.
"Did the weather forecast said anything about sudden change?" Till asks.
"Not really." Sophia is the one to reply.
"What is that?" Ann shouts out.
Before them a shadowy green mist appears in the middle of the street. Out of it a being, half human half horse covered in white fur appears. He holds a crossbow into the sky and shots a single bolt of ice as the temperature drops. The clouds above him form a shadowy face and project his voice amplified. "Resident of earth. I am Captain Cereas here to claim your treasures. Power Rangers come forth and join me and maybe I spare this world."
With that he keeps silent for a while. Everyone in shock and disbelief of what they just witnessed. No one dares to move, speak and too shocked to do anything really.
At the command center the alarm rings. Trini who is still there recollecting memories works on the consoles to get a view on the source but also tries to get in touch with Tobu. But he should still be on his way back and probably needs somewhere to safely park his car while also not being seen by others. The screen shows her what is happening in the city. While a microphone caught the amplified voice.
Being wary that they might not have much time. She sends a text message explaining what is going on, while heading out herself. Not before grabbing what is on the pedestal though.
