A Double Twisted Nightmare Chap 9
September 28th
'Things are out of control.' Jill thinks as she watches the news. Somehow the t-virus had gotten in to the city itself and now at half if not more people are infected. She herself had a nightmare that she became one of them, but thankfully it was just that.
She had gotten word from Brad, he was on his way to her, he heard something too important to speak over the radio and that they had to leave Raccoon city.
'I hope that there is enough evidence now.' Jill had found quite a few pieces of strong evidence that links Umbrella and illegal human experimentation. Though what still puzzles her as to how the virus spread through the city.
Then a loud thump is heard, startled Jill gets up and moves, which saved her life. Right where she was sitting, an arm punches through wall behind her and a figure busts down the rest of the wall. It was covered in black trash bags from head to toe, and it was heading for her.
Jill grabs her gun shots at it but the bullets don't faze it. She runs like hell, going into rooms and jumping out of windows, but the creature seems to be one step ahead and beats her each time she gets close to an exit. Then finally a slab of concrete falls separating her from it, as she moves along an alley way she sees people panicking and running everywhere.
"Jill!" it was Brad and he looked roughed up.
"Damn it! I was too late!" he said as he looked her over.
"So do you know that thing?" she asked holding herself.
"Yeah it paid me a visit awhile ago. It is after the remaining S.T.A.R.S, probably because Umbrella knows what we've been doing." he said.
"Look, the city is lost. We have to get out here." Brad said as they walk the streets.
"But all the people who haven't been infected?! We can't just leave them!" Jill nearly yells at him.
"Jill right now the truth about Umbrella needs to get out and we can't do that if we're dead! Raccoon city is done! I've heard from some old contacts of mine that if this place isn't contained soon, then the President might have to nuke this place!" Brad said.
Jill looks at that horrified, she couldn't believe such measures were being considered.
"Anyway, did you have luck on finding Chris and Claire?" he asks her.
"No. I'm pretty sure there're not in the city." Jill said sadly. She had tried to find traces of the Redfield's for two months but they have vanished. She even tried Claire's college but was told she transferred to Raccoon University. She checked but there was no 'Claire Redfield' enrolled.
"Umbrella has bases in Europe. That is probably where they are." Jill said.
All of a sudden, zombies come out and start going after them. They get into a building and try to barricade the door but one of the zombies bites Brad. "Arrugh!" he said in pain. Jill brings out her knife and stabs the zombie, it backs off.
"Jill it's too late for me, get out of here while you still have the chance!" Brad yelled.
"No way! I'm not leaving you!" she yells.
"We're still team! And I say go and don't look back!" Brad shouts as the zombies try to get through.
"Brad! I won't let your sacrifice be in vain!" Jill said trying not to cry as she heads to the back.
She gets to the roof, after dealing with a rude man and waves down a chopper that has been flying. However she doesn't get on, the creature that she avoided earlier had come.
She hijacks a car nearby and attempts to run it over but it easily flipped the car. She was able to get out of it before it exploded, but even that didn't stop it. Jill thought for certain her life was over but then, "Hey Ugly!"
A rocket surges to it, but it grabbed it and throws it to a police car. It approaches the person who shot at it, but he lets off another round and this time it falls down. The young man quickly gets to Jill's side and pulls her up. "Hey lady come on! Let's get out of here before anymore show up!" he said.
"Who are you?" Jill asks. "Carlos, I explain more later!" he said as he helped her down the street, eventually reaching the subway station.
As they make their way to the train, Carlos speaks, "My full name is Carlos Ollivera, a corporal in the Umbrella Bio-weapon Countermeasure Services or UBCS for short."
Immediately Jill jumps back away from him. "Is something-?" he starts but Jill said, "Is this a joke?! Umbrella is the cause of all this!" she said angrily.
"Whoa! Calm down! I don't know the little details, but we are here to save you and others!" he said.
Jill didn't trust him but didn't have much of a choice but to follow him. "By the way, do you know what the creature was?" she asks.
"Nope, it had been regular monsters until I saw that thing." he said as they walk in the halls.
They reach a train where Carlos's leader is inside. "Carlos you've returned and with a young lady at that." the platoon leader spoke.
"Yes sir, but I found her with a monster I've never seen before. We got to get this train moving." Carlos tells him.
The older man looks at Jill and recognizes her, "Why Miss Valentine! A pleasure to make your acquaintance." he said.
Carlos was confused, "You didn't take names? For shame, this is Jill Valentine of the former S.T.A.R.S." the leader explains.
"My name is Mikhail Viktor, the leader of this unit. We have been brining survivors here." Mikhail said.
"I see. Is there a plan?" Jill asks not impressed.
"We've been cut off from the outside world and I have been trying to keep my men alive, but as you can imagine it's harder than it looks." he said holding himself, he is injured.
"Yes, I see that Umbrella doesn't care for its people." she said.
"You might be right. Listen right now I'm down and a lot of my men are gone, we can really use someone of your expertise here." he said.
"Fine but only for the others." she said.
"All right here's a radio. There should be some supplies up top, get geared up and get back before any real trouble heads your way super cop." Carlos said as he goes back to attend Mikhail.
Jill get upstairs, grabbed some things when Carlos's voice came through the radio. "Jill when you get up top can you see if there's anything you can do about the power supply? The train won't run without it." he said.
"Fine. I'll see what I can do." she said.
It wasn't easy: first she had to play hit and run with zombies, then she had to put out the fire in the alleyway and then backtrack just to find everything she needed. Now she is in the repair shop and hears something. "Friend? Or Foe?" she wonders aloud, uses the bolt cutters and opens the door to find an injured man by a car.
"H-Hey!" he said. She goes over and kneels down.
"You with UBCS?" she asks.
"Y-Yeah. Don't worry I'm just injured, not infected." he said.
As Jill looks over his wounds, a man comes forward with his gun pointed at the injured man. "W-Wait! I'm not infected!" he said before he was shot by the mystery man.
Jill looks horrified before looking over at the shooter. "What the hell?!" she shouts at him.
"Calm down he was most likely infected." he said before walking away.
"So you killed your comrade because you thought he was infected? I see you don't care about human life!" she yelled at him as she follows him.
He stops, "Do you not care about your own life? I understand now why S.T.A.R.S. was disbanded. Too soft to get the job done!" he said before he goes up the steps. "If you can't keep in mind your goal, go back to the station." he said before he left.
'What an asshole!' Jill thinks before going back to the dead man. She finds his journal before going out the door mystery man went through.
She finds another UBCS member but he committed suicide after he was bitten. She then makes her way to the power station, takes out a couple of zombies inside before going around back. "Ugh! What a smell!" she said holding her nose.
She walks along a fence before finding a corpse holding a case, as she gets it spiders burst out of his belly. "What-?!" Jill said alarm.
She calms down and opens the case, discovering to her delight a lock pick. 'Now this I can use!' she grins for the first time tonight. She then runs back to the toy store, stopping here and there for lock she can pick, then unlock the store. She finds a fancy box and opens it to find another jewel inside. She then goes to the market to find another box and another jewel. She then back tracks to find stuff she couldn't get to before. Then she goes back to the power station and unlocks the door.
Just as she was about to go through the door she hears something behind her. She turns and looks but sees nothing, until she looks up and sees a huge spider like creature.
It moved at lighting speed, grabs her and injects eggs into her esophagus. "Shit!" she said as it let her go. Thankfully she had a first aid spray with her, she uses it and pukes up the eggs. "Disgusting! But better out than in." she sneers.
She readies her shotgun and goes in to see a nest for the creatures. She turns on all the switches and blasts away the varmints when they get too close. Once all four are on she heads up to pull the main lever and with that the nest is brunt away, the power back on. "Good riddance!" Jill said. She then calls Carlos, "Hey the power is on!"
"Very good but now the traffic control system needs to be fixed, you know where it is?" he asks.
"Yeah, I'll head that way." she said hanging up. She makes her way back to the repair shop, when a wall bursts open, it was the creature from before.
"Shit! Why now?!" she said dodging it and runs like all hell.
When she gets to the repair shop, she radios Carlos, "Carlos! That thing is still around and its following me!" she said.
"What?! Get back here, on the double!" he said.
"I can't! It will follow me there and the train can't move! I'll call you once I get to the control room!" she shouts before leaving the shop dodging the creature and zombies.
She finally arrives at the subway control room, "All right I'm here! What do I do?" she asks Carlos upon radioing him.
"Plot our route, we need to get Fox Park Station!" he said. Jill works the controls, it was a bit tricky, and got the route they needed.
"We're all set! I'll get back to the station!" she said.
"Ok be careful!" he said. Jill leaves the room but finds a zombie getting up and it's head exploded into something strange. "The hell?!" she said shooting it with her shotgun and running. She gets to the donut shop but as she steps out to get to the station, she sees the creature seemingly attacking the zombies.
"What in the world is it doing?" she wonders aloud as she watches. She bolts once the creature is done with the zombie and comes for her. She dodges zombies all the way back to the station before shutting the shuttered gate. She goes downstairs to find Carlos waiting for her, "Thanks supercop, but we still need to wait a bit before we can go. The finer touches and all that junk." he said, they turn towards a door that opens and two people come through.
"Hey Nicholai! You've been quiet for awhile, thought maybe for a moment you bought the farm." Carlos said.
"In your dreams." he said and Jill recognized him as the one who shot Murphy.
"Hey, why is that woman here?" Nicholai asked.
"She has helped us get the trains back on. Give her some credit." Carlos defends her.
"You can't be serious Carlos. This woman is too soft, she'll get us all killed because she can't use a gun to save herself." he said before walking away.
"Easy sarge! I'm sorry, we're all wound up one way or another." Carlos apologizes to Jill for Nicholai's rude behavior.
Just as they get ready to descend downstairs, the creature had found it's way into the station. "Oh, come on! We need a fucking break! Hey!" Carlos said as Jill hit the shutters but stayed outside of it leaving Carlos by himself.
"Its after me! I'll by time, get the train going!" she said running down the hall.
"Damn it! Jill!" he shouts after her.
Jill uses whatever she has to stun the creature, but stays on the move knowing that it would recover. She reaches a dead end room but it had a vent that she could crawl through. Making sure she distracted the creature, she goes through the vent and finds herself in the sewers. She then find a steel bolt door and shuts it. 'That thing can't get through that but just in case, I better get as far away as possible'.
She then checks out the sewers, sees something in the control room and had to wade through the waters. "Ok these clothes are so done." she said.
As she continues she sees a new creature, it had two legs and is rather big but she easily outmaneuver it.
She finds a a dead end room with papers that said the creatures are called Gamma. 'I see... it looks like only one of them is a real threat, but I can't underestimate them.' Jill thinks. She also finds a grenade launcher with flame rounds equipped.
She leaves and uses it on the creatures she comes across and find items that are useful before finding a lab. She find a battery pack and leaves for a door she saw earlier and explores it. Unlocks a door and uses the battery pack on another, where she finds cool stuff in the security room.
Then she unlocks the door she needs before trying to reach for Carlos, "Hey, can anyone here me?" she asks.
"Jill! Thank God your alive! Listen the train is ready, make sure you lost that freak before coming here." Carlos said.
"Ok see you soon." she responds.
She climbs up a ladder but just as she reaches the top, a huge hand grabs her head. The creature had beaten her to the surface and tosses her out of the man hole. She looks at it and sees that it had a flamethrower.
She runs for the building that had a shutter, before slamming it to the ground. Jill takes a breather, "That shithead can use weapons?! I got to lose it!" she said.
She grabs what she can before dodging zombies and reaching higher ground as she hears the creature roar "STARS". She keeps on moving climbing higher and evading the creature.
Eventually she reaches the roof and the creature meets her there. "Hmm.. I'll go for the fuel tank." Jill said.
She uses a lot of ammo but the tank finally explodes however the creature was down but not out. "Seriously?!" Jill shouts. She unloads whatever she has and dodges it's strikes, until finally it fell mummering "STARS".
Unfortunately the flames made the building unstable, Jill makes a risky jump and lands on a window cleaning machines. However its cable snaps and she falls on the ground hard, but had to move before it fell on her. Once she is settled she radios Carlos, "Hey it's me. I got that bastard, now I'm heading back."
"Good but what the hell? Why did you lure that monster?" Carlos asks.
"Look, I'm beaten up as it is. I don't need a lecture right now." Jill said.
"Ok see you shortly and ... thanks." he said before hanging up.
Jill goes across a fire truck and jumps down. She has a bittersweet smile as she stares at the back of the RPD building. She finds good things and dodges zombies before reaching Kendo's gunshop.
As she grabs much needed things, Kendo jumps out with a gun. "Shit! Jill, you scared the crap out of me!" he said.
"Never mind that I'm glad your still alive!" she said.
"Hey, I've found some people and we're taking the train out. You wanna come with?" Jill asks.
Kendo however was distracted by something, "Hey are you ok?" Jill asks.
"Yeah...Look Jill thanks for the offer but I've got other arrangements." he said before walking to his home.
"All right but you get outta here. Your the best at guns!" she said.
"Thanks Jill, by the way there's a key to the alleyway in the shop. Use it to get the station." he said before shutting his door.
She grabs the key, unlocks the alley and and dodges zombies before reaching a house. She finds what is good and leaves, but a burning object is thrown in front of her. She turns and sees to her horror the monster was back and had a new weapon on it.
"A rocket launcher?! How did it find one?!" Jill yells making a run for it down that alley. She gets to the other side of the power station, between zombies and rockets being thrown at her. It blew up a police car in front of and she dodges before calling Carlos again, "Hey, I didn't kill it like I thought I did. It's still following me." she said.
"Your shitting me right?! What the hell does it take to kill it?!" Carlos yells.
"I'll let you know if I live!" she before disconnecting.
It blocks her escape with a rocket, then fires another at her feet, causing her to fly over the barricade. As she gets up she sees something, 'Hey its that statue mentioned in the paper! If I can just get there..' Jill get an idea.
She takes the catwalk for the road it out when she hears Carlos's voice, "Hey Jill! Meet me at the station!" he said.
"Are you crazy?! It will follow me there!" she shouts at him.
"Look I've got an idea! Trust me!" he said before disconnecting.
She runs towards the donut shop and sees the head on top of the toy shop. 'All right! Now I just have to wait for the creep-'.
"Shit!" Jill shouts, a rocket hits the statue and it tumbles down her way. She moves out of the way before she gets crushed, but the creature appears before her. She stuns it, grabs a case it dropped and runs toward the alley leading to the station.
"This way!" Carlos was waiting for her. They run, the creature shoots rocket at Jill who falls but gets back before it catches her. Carlos shoots at it and it falls for a trap in the ground. Carlos then blows up the fuel tank behind it and they get the shutters closed.
"Thanks, I'm sorry I gave you a hard time earlier." Jill apologizes as the walk to the subway.
"Look it's ok. You've been through hell and back. Now let's get you and the others to safety." Carlos said.
As the shutters from before open again, Carlos then spoke, "I might not be on the train. We are probably going to get new orders, but I want to help save the city." he said.
"Carlos... I don't think there is anything you can do. The city has been hit too hard." she tells him sadly.
"Well, we've got to try." he said.
As they reach the bottom, they find Mikhail and another in deep conversation. "Ah! Thank you Miss Valentine. Your STARS reputation is well deserved. Now get on aboard." he said before turning to the mystery man.
"Carlos, Tyrell. I need you two to go back out and find Dr. Nathaniel Bard." he order them.
"Wait, we can just leave them." Jill tries to protest.
"Don't worry once everyone is safe, then train will be sent back." Mikhail tells her.
"This Bard should have created a vaccine for the virus, we need him and the shot." he tells them.
Carlos sees Jill in the doorway of the train, "Look it will be all right. I won't leave this world until sunshine is on you." Carlos said cheekily.
"Ok." Jill said and gets on. She sees Nicholai sitting, "I see you made it. Maybe you do know how to stay alive. Just remember, the only that matters is your life." Nikolai said, Jill ignores his words.
"Good luck." Mikhail said to the two outside and gets on. He radios the ones inside the cab, "Get us out of here." he orders and the train moves. Jill watches as Carlos and Tyrell disappear from view.
As they travel, Jill overhears Mikhail and Nikolai talking. "Bard is probably dead, why did you send them on a wild goose chase?" Nicholai asks Mikhail.
"I have sources that assure me that he is still alive. Why are you concerned?" he asks.
"If I remember right you were on watch when a zombie horde came upon us. Then you were the one said that are backs were covered, yet we were overwhelmed and taken off guard." Mikhail said giving Nicholai a look.
Jill realizes that Mikhail suspects Nikolai is up to something and unbeknownst to her Nicholai smiles like a cat that ate the canary.
Then all of a sudden the train rocks, she gets up and looks over at the disturbance. It was the creature, it was still alive.
"Why won't it die?!" Jill yells angrily.
All the people that were saved were now dead. Jill tries to rush the monster, but Mikhail stops her, "They're gone! Don't kill yourself over it!" he said and pushes her back to the other door.
Jill tries to leave but Nicholai locks it. "I want to live." he said before leaving.
"Bastard!" she yells and turns upon hearing gunshots.
"Nicholai! So this was your doing!" Mikhail shouts and he is grabbed with a tentacle by the monster.
It brings him closer, "Thank you for introducing yourself! Now die!" Mikhail said before denoting explosives that he had with him.
The explosion rocks the train and knocks Jill around. As she falls she yells, "Chris!" before falling unconscious.
Meanwhile Carlos and Tyrell had finally arrived at the RPD building. "Ok let's get in." Tyrell said.
"I hope Mikhail's information is right. At least the train is now out of here." Carlos said.
Then they hear gunshots, someone was shooting at a zombie. "Get away Brad! I don't want to do this!" a cop said to the zombie. Tyrell moves to bust down a barricade. The zombie takes a bite out of the cop and he shoots at before getting inside. Tyrell finally busts down the barricade, and they shoot the zombie.
Once the zombie was no more, Carlos checks it while Tyrell lock picks the door. Carlos finds a STARS id on him, "This will be helpful, though Jill will be sad to know that one of her teammates is dead." Carlos said. He looks around outside before following Tyrell in.
"Hey where did that cop go?" Carlos said looking around trying to find him.
"It doesn't matter, let's find Bard. He should be in the S.T.A.R.S room." Tyrell said.
"Wait, is this not search and rescue?" Carlos asks.
"No, according to Mikhail we're suppose to capture and detain him. He has valuable intel that is vital to what is going on." Tyrell responds.
He opens the shutters, "You go on ahead, I'll stay here to see if there is anymore information. And be careful!" he said.
Carlos makes his way to the hallway, where two cops are killed by something. "What the-?! A zombie didn't do that!" Carlos cautiously approaches the corner but whatever it was made tracks. He finds a lot of stuff in the deposit room and moves to go upstairs when a skinless creature appears.
"So that's it! Take this!" Carlos shoots at it before running to the women's shower. He finds that someone had put stuff and a detonator on the door separating men and women showers.
As he sets it up Tyrell's voice comes through, "Hey you at the room yet? I'm on my way up, I couldn't find anything else useful".
"No, but I'm about to be. Watch out for skinless fucks with long tongues." Carlos said as readies the detonator. He hides behind one of the showers, and the wall is gone, blasted into nothingness. He takes care of a few more zombies, before leaving the showers and runs back into the monster.
"Get lost!" Carlos shoots it until it was dead. He enters the room but no one is inside. There is an emergency beacon on one of the computers and he brings it up, where an older man is visible.
"Finally! I've been trying to reach the S.T.A.R.S for awhile now!" the old man said.
"Are you Nathaniel Bard?" Carlos asks.
"Yes. Please send S.T.A.R.S my way. I'm in the hospital. There's every monster you probably have come across, so tell them to be prepared." Bard said.
"I'm sorry but we're the UBCS. S.T.A.R.S was disbanded awhile ago. We will rescue you, just tell us where you are." Carlos said.
"Disbanded? I've been here so long I didn't know that. All right I'm at the Spencer Memorial Hospital, please get here before Umbrella has me killed. They don't want anyone to know about the vaccine." Bard said before the connection dies.
Tyrell had entered just as Bard was telling them where he is. "Tyrell, we can't let Umbrella have him. They must be killing researchers for some reason." Carlos said.
"Don't worry Mikhail most likely will want him alive. He said there's a vaccine, so we just need to get it." he said. Tyrell then moves to the computer, "I'll bring up a map that will take us to the hospital."
"Yeah make it fast, I don't want to worry Jill anymore." Carlos said.
"Gonna have a date." Tyrell says teasingly.
"Ha, Ha. Very funny, no. She's out of my league." he said.
He finds Jill's desk and her journal in the top drawer. He opens it and sees that Jill had been pouring her thoughts and concerns about the mansion incident, finding evidence to bring down Umbrella and the disappearance of Chris and Claire Redfield. Chris was her teammate and Claire was his sister. Before the mansion the two vanished without a trace.
Carlos's radio come on," Carlos it's Jill." she said. "Hey you guys made it?" he asks.
"No the train derailed." Jill said.
"What? How did that happen?" Carlos asked concerned.
"The monster from hell came back, it killed Mikhail and everyone! As far as I know, I'm the only survivor." she said.
"Damn!" he said.
"Listen Nicholai had left us to die. So watch out-oh shit!" she yelled.
"Jill what's wrong?!" Carlos asked.
"I-It's still alive!" she said panicked.
"Where are you?!" he asks.
"I'm going to be at St Michael's tower!" was all she said before there is nothing more.
"Jill?!" he asks but she doesn't pick up.
"Tyrell, Mikhail is dead and Nikolai is a traitor. The monster is back and is chasing Jill again. I'm going after her." Carlos tells Tyrell.
"Ok I'll catch up with you once I've figured out a route for Bard and I'll watch out for Nikolai. Do you know where she is heading?" he asks him.
"St. Michael's tower." Carlos said.
"It is five miles east of here. You better hope she holds out." Tyrell said.
Carlos leaves to go back outside and finds a motorcycle.
He hot wires it and drives it, avoiding cars, zombies, and everything else. He then arrives at St Michael's tower and sees Jill shooting at much different looking monster than the one he remembers.
"Carlos! I'm almost out of ammo!" Jill shouts.
"Don't worry! The cavalry is here!" he yells.
They shoot at it with machine bullets and three mine grenades until it finally it collapses in front of the tower.
"Thanks for saving me again." Jill said.
"No problem but next time when I save you, let it be a regular monster." he said.
"Let's go the Spencer Memorial hospital. That's where Bard is." Carlos said.
They cautiously edge around the dead monster and go into the archway. But it was not dead, it gets up and swings it's arm in a roar.
It smacks Jill right into a wall and she falls unconscious. It grabbed Carlos by his legs and drags him toward it. He shoots up at the gate until it falls on the creature's arm severing it. Carlos gets the huge hand of him, then moves to check on Jill, but the creature regenerates its arm.
It shoots out a tentacle at him and touches his arm, the creature falls down. Carlos removes the thorn from his arm but the pain of the virus is too much. He falls to ground, shakes and salivates.
A shadow moves, it was Nicholai. "Things turned out very interesting. Thank you corporal, for your contributions to the Nemesis. And thank you Miss Valentine for this has been excellent." Nicholai said. He leaves, convinced that the two would soon be dead.
Tyrell found them about half a day later. "Jill! Jill! Wake up!" he said shaking her awake.
Jill's eyes flutters, then open. "Tyrell?" she asks.
"Good your fine. Carlos however is not." he said helping her up.
Jill looks over at Carlos and he is in rough shape. "Oh no.. He's infected?" she asked Tyrell as she checks Carlos over.
"Yes but there is a vaccine. It's at the Spencer Memorial hospital. If we're quick he can still be saved." he said putting Carlos on his back.
They make there way to the hospital, Jill taking care of any zombies that get too close. They arrive at the hospital, find a sickroom nearby and put Carlos on an empty bed. Carlos's face is contorted with pain.
"Keep fighting Carlos. You've saved me before, now it's my turn to save you." she said.
"Tyrell, stay here and keep an eye on him. I'll go find Bard and the vaccine." Jill tells him.
"Ok but stay in contact. Let me know if the situation changes." Tyrell said.
Jill then walks the horrors of the Spencer Memorial Hospital.
Our favorite rookie final makes his appearance along with Claire!
