Relic
RECAP:
Clark goes to the cave and find's Jor-El's pendent which provides him with his Jor-El's flashbacks. He and Lana investigate Dexter's story. Chloe is too busy with the Torch to help them, so Clark doesn't share that he's having visions. Clark explains to Lana that he just came across things as he went through the public records. As in the show, Clark uses Jor-El's jacket to frighten Mayor Tate into confessing.
Later in the barn…
Clark stared out at the night sky, his mind a jumble of thoughts regarding destiny. Jor-El, his biological father had come to Smallville and met his grandfather.
"If there's anything you ever need, you know where to find me." Hiram Kent said in the last entry.
Clark had always felt lucky having the best parents in the world. And when he learned they had just randomly found him in cornfield, he was even more grateful. But now Clark knew the truth. It had never been luck that the Kents had found him; they had been chosen.
They are a flawed race Kal-El. Rule them with strength. This was the last message Jor-El had left for him in the spaceship.
Jor-El had fallen in love with Louise, a being from a supposedly flawed race. What had happened for Jor-El to lose that love and respect? It was unlikely Clark would ever get the chance to ask him. Would something in Clark's alien nature eventually overcome him and he would turn into an unstoppable tyrant?
Clark didn't want to rule. He had nothing but admiration for the people on this planet he was lucky to call home. His father, his real father, Johnathan Kent, was adamant in telling Clark he would form his own future through his choices.
You have no choice, Kal-El, Jor-El had said last year.
A creak in the barn made Clark turn his head.
"Hi," Lana said as she climbed the last step.
"Hey."
"Dexter's been freed."
"Thanks to you."
"I don't know if I did anything. If Mayor Tate hadn't suddenly confessed, nothing would have changed."
"You believed in him. That means something."
Lana smiled and Clark became distracted by how beautiful she looked in the starlight.
"Clark, can we be friends? Ever since you came back, I feel like you've been avoiding me. I know we're not together anymore, but you don't need an excuse to come and see me. So, come on. No strings. No pressure for this to be anything. We'll just be friends."
Lana held out her hand and looked up at him with her eyes wide with hope.
Clark felt his throat tighten. He was touched by Lana's kindness. This was what he loved and admired above all else about her; her unwavering strength and willingness to stand by those she loved.
"I can do that." Clark took her hand and forced a smile.
All the while, his broken heart screamed "I love you".
