Chapter 29: Robotnik's Legacy Pt 1
Hope is in her room, working on a gadget to look at her notes. A drone looks at the young blond lady in the window. "Perfect, she has the blood of Doctor Kintobor. We need it to activate the next phase of our plan," EVE said.
Hope sighs as she looks at a photo of herself, Shadow, Rouge, and Omega recently. "It's so hard trying to be who I am without being matched up to Eggman or my half-brother Snively. I am not a monster like them," Hope said as she held onto the photo frame. "Is my family that cursed to go to evil? Please Shadow, help me," Hope is feeling hopeless at the situation.
"How sad not knowing your purpose in life," a weird robotic female voice said as Hope turned around to see out the window to see a human woman floating nearby.
"What in the world, who are you?" Hope asked.
"I am EVE, I am the head android overseeing Project Rebirth made by your ancestor doctor Ivan Kintobor," EVE said as Hope remembered that name.
"Kintobor, that is an old family that goes back thousands of years in my family. What do you want from me?" Hope asked.
'Well, you seem unsure about your place in this world. If I take you to my master, all things will become clear. In short, you will aid in Humanity reaching the highest levels and you will be a hero for generations to come," EVE said putting on a friendly smile.
Hope is uncertain about this but she is desperate to prove to herself that she can do good for the world. "Fine, let me see what you have in mind," Hope said.
"Excellent, come with me to your destiny," EVE said as she blasted the wall open to lift Hope in the air with a gravity bubble.
"Hope, what's going on?" Shadow opens the door to see Hope floating beside a weird woman. "Who are you and why are you taking Hope?" Shadow demanded with him rushing at the android.
EVE has a disgusted look on her face as she blasts Shadow with gravity orbs. Shadow launches Chao Spears and the attacks collide to trigger an explosion knocking Shadow into the wall.
"Sorry Shadow, I need to know my place," Hope said with a tearful expression on her face.
"Hope no!" Shadow shouted as EVE and Hope teleported away. Rouge comes into the room to see Shadow looking incredibly angry at something.
"Shadow, what is going on? Where is Hope?" Rouge sounded worried by the confusion.
"I don't know, a weird woman appeared and took Hope away," Shadow said as both Rouge and Shadow got a call from GUN Commander Towers.
"Shadow, Rouge. We have a bit of a situation here. One of the Mobians' city-states the Golden Hive Colony is asking us for aid. Team Dark and GUN Task Force X will be there to aid in protecting the city, get there ASAP," Commander Towers said.
"Yes sir, well we will figure out how to get Hope back. Now we need to go help the colony," Rouge said.
"Alright, Omega got repaired and stocked. Time to get to work," Shadow said as the duo went off with Shadow and Rouge being deeply worried about Hope.
"Shadow, we will take her back. You are not the only one who got attached to her, Shadow," Rouge said as the two teams got ready to roll out.
Meanwhile, Mina is at home in the living room as she and Sonic are watching a movie. Sonic gets a call from Charmy on his smartphone. "Sonic, I need you and Mina to come to the Golden Hive Colony," Charmy said.
"What is going on little buddy?" Sonic asked as he heard explosions with Mina getting worried from the sounds.
"These machines came back to kidnap people. They are nothing I have seen before not like the Swat bots and Egg Pawns. More monstrous and aggressive, please come here ASAP. I am protecting my good friend Princess Saffron. Get here fast," Charmy begged as he cut off the phone line.
"That sounds serious. I hope Charmy and his friend are okay," Mina said as she swiftly got into her adventurer's outfit and fixed up her hair.
"Well hearing about weird robot monsters is very concerning," Sonic said as Mina tapped her foot to be ready to go.
"Okay, baby. Let's go, head straight there. Going Mach 5 would get us there in no time," Mina said as they sped in the direction leaving sonic booms behind them. They look like two blurs spreading against the landscape heading for the Golden Hive Colony.
Within the hour, the duo managed to reach the city-state of the Golden Hive Colony which is based inside a massive tree looming over the forest. "Gee, this place is bigger than I thought," Mina said as they saw a ton of bee soldiers protecting the colony against unknown metal animals.
"Oh man, what are those things?" Sonic questioned as they saw large boars, eagles, and dogs transformed into cybernetic monsters with skin and blood replaced with wires and metal.
"We are going to help them deal with this," Mina said as Sonic used Spin Dash on a Cyber Dog to knock it into a big rock.
"Good to see you two, we could use the help. GUN is sending their teams to help as well," the Royal army soldier said as he wielded his energy pistol called a Plasma Stinger.
"I guess Shadow got the call huh," Sonic said to see the cyber dog get back up to lunge at him. He dodges but the beast pounds the ground to unleash a wave of energy to stun Sonic. Another Cyber Dog tackles him to send him flying across the ground.
"Sonic, are you okay?" Mina asked as she made a group of Cyber Boats floats with the Hover power. She zaps them with bolts of lightning with one breaking out and smashing into her. Mina regains her footing as she peppers the charging beast with fireballs but it's not stopping making Mina roll out of the way.
"Yeah, these guys are tough. Tougher than any robots I fought before," Sonic said as he noticed these beasts were once animals transformed by twisted science becoming vastly more aggressive and durable than before.
"Then we need to hit them even harder, Plasma," Mina gathers energy into her palms to blow apart groups of machine hybrids but a Boar withstands the damage to try to impale Mina with its tusks. "Drill," Mina goes into her Drill state to tackle the big cybernetic monster to land the hit to slowly pierce the beast to split it down the middle.
Gore spreads onto the ground to see Mina covered in a blue goo which is like blood to these cybernetic monsters. "Gee, this is gross," Mina said as she fired a big beam of flames to crave through the horde of monsters.
Sonic uses a Blue Tornado to suck up the surrounding creatures to use a follow-up Light Speed Attack to cut all of them down. A Cyber Eagle is firing its laser bolts at Sonic to backflip away with a Boar hitting him in the back and knocking him onto the ground.
Mina holds the eagles in the air with her Hover color power but a Cyber Dog opens its mouth to shoot balls of explosive energy. One of the balls hits Mina sending her flying into a tree she kicks off the tree to strike the pursuing Cyber Dog with her leg.
Sonic jumps above a Boar to use his Bounce attack to slam hard onto the back of the monster several times with each bounce hitting harder than the last. Sonic managed to break the Cyber Boar's back making it unable to move and then he finished it off with a Spin Dash.
Mina can see the soldiers are getting overwhelmed by the cyber enemies with a Cyber Dog ripping out the torso of a Bee Mobian killing him with blood dripping from its razor-sharp mauls. It launches bolts of energy to strike Sonic's back to stun him in place.
The Cyber Eagle dives into Sonic but Mina manages to catch the metal beast in a wave of weightlessness with Sonic using his Homing Attack to destroy it.
"Time to clean this up," Sonic and Mina combine their attacks. Sonic sets up a Blue Tornado to create a vacuum to suck in all the enemies trapped inside. Mina drops several Plasma orbs to blow away multiple cyber enemies to clear out the area.
"How interesting you rats fighting back," a female voice said as Sonic and Mina looked around to see a hovering blond-haired human woman donning a white bodysuit and a black visor over her eyes.
"Who are you?" Sonic demanded.
"I am EVE, one of the last combat androids of the 21st century. I am honored to take these beauties for our goals," EVE said with a cheerful smile.
"What goal is that?" Mina asked.
"The death of the Mobian race and the rise of Humanity's place back on top," EVE said as both of them were confused and disgusted by this.
"What are you talking about," Sonic said.
"Yes really, you want to create genocide against us Mobians?" Mina is angry at this.
"Of course, I do. You things were never meant to exist in the first place. With the help of Hope, we will change this world and bring humanity back under my master's supervision," EVE said.
"Not on my watch," Shadow teleports to get behind EVE to deliver a powerful kick. EVE blocks his strike but Shadow punches her in the head to knock her back a bit.
"You little pest," EVE scorned him.
"Good to see you here Shadow," Sonic said.
"Good thing I am not late," Shadow said as Rouge, Omega, Ace, Whisper, Tangle, and Shard arrived as well.
"Rouge, everyone is here now," Mina said.
"I overheard what you said. Hope will never join you," Shadow said being firm about it as EVE is not sure about this.
"How do you know, why did she leave with me then? She wants to find her place in this world and when she triggers Project Rebirth, she will be a hero to Humanity. Allowing humans to go into a golden age under my Master's guided hand and you Mobains will transform into the cybernetic labor force to make this golden age possible," EVE said.
"You want to turn all Mobains into robotic slaves for your twisted future. Insane," Shadow cuts through her nonsense as EVE laughs at this.
"You should know Shadow. You and my master are more alike than you think," EVE summons a wave of cybernetic Bee Mobians who got twisted by the Metal Virus becoming hybrid nightmares wielding grafted weapons on their metal bodies.
"Those are the people who were kidnapped," Ace said as Whisper felt deep sympathy for them.
"This is awful they are just cybernetic monsters now," Whisper said.
"Are these beauties nice, this is due to my creator's ultimate weapon? The Metal Virus can turn a simple creature into a deadly weapon via special nanites my master controls. This is the key to our domination and you will get a taste of it," EVE summons a huge cyber Cobra on the field. "This is a Gigantic Cobra from Africa aka Efrika like you beasties like to call the landmass these days. This was a test subject for the Metal Virus turning it into a killing machine. I hope you have fun," EVE said as the Cyber Cobra let out a piercing shriek as the cyber bee Mobians swarm the city.
"Oh crap, what now?" Tangle asked.
"Me, Sonic, and Shard will manage this while everyone else goes defend the city," Shadow said.
"Alright, don't do anything stupid," Rouge said kissing him on the cheek for good luck.
"I will be careful," Shadow said as the three hedgehogs prepared to fight the large robotic snake while Mina and others defended the city against the horde. "Stay on task Sonic and Shard," Shadow said as the three hedgehogs face off the massive robotic snake.
The Cyber Cobra spits out jets of acid from its mouth as they roll out of the way. The torrents of green liquid strike a rock to melt into a puddle of goo. "That is not good," Shard said as he transformed his arm into an arm cannon to fire energy orbs at the monster. The snake evades the orbs while striking its tail onto the ground to kick up dirt to block the view.
"Gee, I can't see anything," Sonic said as Shard used his sensors to see through the dirt cloud.
"Sonic, look out," Shard said as the huge cobra lunged at Sonic in the dusty clouds with both Sonic and Shard using dual Homing Attacks to knock the beast backward. Shadow teleports behind it to launch several Chaos Spears to pierce into its back causing explosions.
The Cyber Cobra slams its head onto the ground to unleash shockwaves to blow them back with Sonic slams into its head with a Spin Dash. The monster hits Sonic with its tail as it tries to bite Sonic with its huge fangs.
Shard goes in front of him to grab onto the monster's fang. "Hey Sonic, you okay?" Shard asked.
"No sweat, thanks for the save," Sonic commented as Shard punched the robotic snake to make the head recoil. The Cobra spits acid right at Shard for there is no time to dodge.
"Black Shield," Shard creates a black diamond barrier that negates the acid attack leaving him unharmed. Both Shadow and Sonic use Homing Attacks to slam into its head but the beast managed to shake off their attacks.
"This acid is getting annoying," Shadow said as Shadow spots a tank of acid on the machine hybrid's neck.
"Target the acid tank on its neck," Shard scanned the Cyber Cobra to see a weakness they could exploit.
"Right," Sonic said as Sonic drew its attention to Shard blasting off pieces of its armor further weakening it via energy blasts. Shadow heads in to charge up his Chaos Lance as the Cyber Cobra sweeps away Shard and Sonic to fire beams of acid at Shadow.
Shadow is evading its attacks with one acid beam hitting him dead center. Shadow activates the Flame Shield prototype Hope gave him as a red flaming barrier negates the acid beam protecting him from harm. "Chaos Lance," Shadow threw an energy projectile to strike the acid tank and make it burst open.
The acid pours over the Cobra to melt it into a pile of goo. "Yes, direct hit," Sonic said.
"I don't miss," Shadow said as they managed to take out a powerful machine hybrid. The others were within the huge tree with Mina assisting in protecting the Golden Hive Colony. She looks inside to see tons of waxy buildings etched onto the bark of the tree interconnected to each other. "Looks like a real beehive but now on a much larger scale," Mina said as she got a call from Charmy.
"Hey Mina, I need your help defending the royal family. There are a bunch of bad guys crowding up in here," Charmy said.
"Don't worry Charmy, I will be there to help you. Where are you located?" she asked.
"Well, on the top level where the royal section is. Keep going up and you will find it," Charmy said.
"Okay, Charmy. Hang tight and keep your friend and her family safe," Mina is rushing up the levels to head for the top level of the giant ancient tree. She sees the Royal Defense Forces holding back the weird cybernetic monsters made of transformed animals and Mobian Bees, "What a mess," she thought as a Cyber Dog craving into the head of a fallen bee soldier with blood dripping from its sharp mauls.
The Cyber Dog screams to lunge at Mina as she kicks it in the head to knock it into a waxy building. She keeps going higher until she hits the third level for Tangle and Ace are fighting a group of Cyber Bee Mobians.
"Hey Mina, We will crave you a path to the Royal level," Tangle uses her long tail to grab onto the neck of a Cyber Dog to snap its neck and then toss the corpse into a group of Cyber Bee Soldiers.
"Ensnare," Ace sends his shadow to hold onto three targets at once with Tangle using her tail to knock them out the windows to see them fall to the ground below.
"This is nuts, these things are insanely strong," Tangle bounces on her tail to spring jump above a charging Cyber Boar. She grabs a broken wooden pole to plunge it into the back of the Cyber Boar. "Eat this," Tangle's tail forms into a fist to slam into the wooden stake impaling the monster and killing it instantly.
Ace sends his shadow like a projectile to tackle a boar to stun it as he draws his pistol to blast it in the eyes blinding it. He dodges its blind rage as he makes his shadow capture the cybernetic monster. "Entomb," Ace made his shadow cover the whole monster as he made his hand into a fist for the shadow to implode to crush the monster into a bloody mess.
Ace fires precise shots with his custom pistol to kill off the Cyber Bee Soldiers as one of them dives toward Ace. He kicks the cyber soldier to entrap it in his shadow with Tangle crushing it with her tail fist.
Ace sets his pistol into burst mode as he picks off flying soldiers with precise shots with Tangle kicking and punching monsters making them fall off the tree. "Phantom defend," Ace summons his living shadow to form a barrier around Tangle to protect her from explosions.
"Thanks, buddy," Tangle said as she used her tail to swing and climb to evade the Cyber Soldiers' plasma weapons. She lands on top of a roof to kick pieces of rubble to knock each of the soldiers out of the air with Ace landing burst shots to kill them off.
"There, go forward Mina and we will cover your six," Ace said as he aimed a wrist-mounted grapple hook to grab onto a soldier to pull them into Tangle's kick knocking it into a building.
"Thanks, guys," Mina said as she ran up the sections to be on the second level to see a horde of monsters. "Time to blast through them," Mina engulfs herself in flames to use a Flame Boost to blast her way through the hordes of monsters to set them all on fire.
Mina slams into a Cyber Boar turning it into a flaming heap as she stomps her feet to turn every enemy around her into blue cubes. She stomps apart to see all the cubes breaking apart and clearing the way.
Mina reaches the top level to see several soldiers lying dead on the ground with blood smears on the walls. "Mina," Charmy said covered in blue blood from the cybernetic creatures and soldiers.
"Good thing you are safe," Mina said as she looked over to see a cute-looking female bee Mobian bowing her head in respect.
"Oh, thank you, Mina. Charmy told me all about you." the young lady said
"Oh, you must be Saffron Bee, the princess of this nation," Mina said as Saffron is a yellow and black striped bee who is about 14 years old the same age as Charmy while standing 2'3 tall. She is sporting a pink dress with a brown bomber jacket over it, white gloves, and pink boots.
"Yes and I am happy you and your friends managed to answer the call to our aid," Saffron fixes her blond hair and antennas.
"Thanks to everyone, we managed to survive this," Charmy said as they were hit by a large blast. "Charmy," Saffron said as she grabbed a Plasma Stinger pistol to start firing at EVE but she put up a barrier to protect herself. "Get out of my kingdom, you witch," Saffron said as she got hit by an orb of energy to sent her flying onto the floor.
"Sorry for crashing this party but I want to drop this," EVE tosses a metal orb to land near Charmy and Mina.
Nanites burst out of the shell to begin infecting Mina and Charmy. "Oh no," Saffron said as she fired her pistol but EVE laughed at this.
"It's too late, they are now infected with the Metal Virus," EVE laughs at Mina feels her body getting overwhelmed with lots of heat making her unable to move. She drops onto the floor as she begins to shake violently.
Mina screams in pain as Sonic, Shadow, and the others approach. Sonic rushes over to see Mina twitching a lot. "What did you do with her?!" Sonic demanded as EVE laughed at his pain.
"She is infected and soon enough she will become a Cyber Soldier for our growing army," EVE said as she teleported away for GUN Airships to appear with friendly forces to land within the giant tree to begin wiping out the remaining pockets of Cyber forces.
Saffron looks over Charmy for he is violently shaking as well. "What is going on here? What is wrong with him?" Saffron asked being deeply worried to hold him in her arms.
"We need Stasis Pods ASAP," Shadow ordered as the GUN soldiers brought in two pods to place Charmy and Mina inside. "This will keep them okay until they need medical attention," Shadow said.
"Bring them to Tails and Nicole," Sonic said as Shadow nodded his head but Saffron stopped them.
"Can I go with you?" the little bee asked.
"Sure, stay close," Sonic said as Shadow teleported them back to Tails' Workshop for Tails and Nicole saw the news broadcast of the attack on the Golden Hive Colony from those weird cybernetic creatures and soldiers.
Both see the others appearing within the building. "Guys, we saw the news and oh no," Tails said as he spotted Mina and Charmy looking sick in the pods.
"What happened to them?" Nicole uses her sensors to detect some weird readings from Charmy and Mina.
"I need you to check them and see what is wrong with them. They got infected with something called the Metal Virus," Sonic said.
"The woman EVE called it the ultimate weapon created by her master," Shadow said.
"Sounds serious, come take them to the scanner and I can look at what's going on inside," Tails said as they put the pods on tables. Tails and Nicole are using scanners to check what's inside to see something very disturbing.
"This is not good. This Metal Virus is supercharged nanites that convert organic beings into cybernetic ones. This makes Eggman's Roboticization progression look outdated and it acts like a real virus adapting and growing at a rapid pace until it turns the victim into a hyper-aggressive subject," Tails said as he read the GUN reports Shadow to send him and his scans.
"Yes but thankfully the stasis pod is holding back the progress. Seems like it is preventable before complete conversion," Nicole said as Sonic was looking happy there was a chance to save Mina and Charmy.
"Okay, there is a chance. That's all I need to hear; how do we go about this?" Sonic asked to tap his foot wanting to get back into the action to save Mina and stop this new string of attacks from an unknown enemy.
"We need to know how this all works and how we can shut them down. We need to track down this EVE woman and gain knowledge from her databanks," Nicole said.
"Nicole, can you fix this?" Sonic asked.
"yes if I know how the Nanites work. I can adapt my systems and be able to control the nanites. Stopping the Metal virus in its tracks," Nicole said.
"We need all the help we can get. Do your best, they are counting on you," Sonic said as Nicole sports a sorrowful but strong expression to grab onto and place her hand onto Mina's pod.
"Mina, you have been a good friend to me and now I will pay your kindness back by saving you and everyone from this madness," Nicole felt a fire within her very being to gain the power to save everyone from this new crisis at hand.
Shadow looks out of the window to be worried about Hope. "Please stay safe out there Hope, I am coming to get you back," Shadow thought as they began their plans to fight back.
Elsewhere within an unknown bunker, Hope is in a lab area to wake up and get out of bed. "Where am I?" Hope asked.
"You are in the command bunker where my AI core rests," a strong bellowing voice said as Hope looked up to see a large robotic owl descending onto the floor to land gracefully. "Good evening Hope Robotnik. I am ADAM, I was made by your ancestor Doctor Ivan Kintobor," ADAM said.
'That name, which is an incredibly old name that was part of my family for eons," Hope said as she remembered parents in the past told her about her lineage of geniuses that span throughout the ages.
"Yes, and you are the current member who holds his blood and DNA. We need you to start a wonderful new age for Humanity called Project Rebirth. Putting Humans back on track as the superior species on this planet," ADAM said.
"What about the Mobians, are they part of this Project of yours?" Hope asked.
"They are not, the only logical thing is to wipe them off the face of the Earth," ADAM said as Hope was getting angry at this.
"You are asking me to help you commit genocide against innocent people of another race. What makes you think I would help you," Hope said as the robotic owl stared back at her with an empty expression on his face.
"You don't yet understand the gravity of the sins your family had made and why you are deemed dangerous by proxy," ADAM said as he was getting into her self-esteem issues. "Once you understand, you will have no choice but to help me. I will begin your lessons on your family's history, the world's true past, and the future you will bring to humanity," ADAM said as he began to rewrite the world into his image acting as humanity's new god.
