Etrigan
Backstory:
His origins have been ambiguous—even to himself—after centuries of Etrigan tampering with his mind. Under meditation he believed he had once been a high priest in the Cult of Gaia who practised human sacrifice. It wasn't until Blood forced Merlin to unlock his real memories long forgotten that he learned the horrific truth. Jason was a simple peasant with a wife and two children until the fateful night he was chosen by Merlin to bind Etrigan for eternity. The strain of two minds and souls instantaneously forced together manifested in temporary insanity. Jason woke the next day covered in the blood of his murdered family. Discovered by his brother-in-law, an angry mob soon swarmed him. The imminent threat of death awakened the demon inside for the first time, and the ensuing massacre earned him the name Jason-of-the-blood.
Etrigan was originally summoned to Earth to serve Merlin in a desperate final attempt to protect Camelot, and his Eternity Book, from the evil witch, Morgaine le Fey.[4] When it became clear that the kingdom would fall regardless, Merlin bound the unruly Demon to a mortal peasant named Jason, while Merlin went into hiding to rest. In the chaos of the binding spell, the demon-mortal amalgam slaughtered Jason's wife and children. When the carnage was discovered, the town turned against Jason and Etrigan was inadvertently summoned for the first time, massacring the entire village.
From that day forth, man and beast worked in tandem. Etrigan incited war and strife and in return Jason gained wealth and status. At the end of the Fifth Crusade, in 1221 AD, Etrigan was summoned by Reynald de la Montaigne to siege the fortress of Al Salah. The Demon would only assist providing the commanding Bishop made a deal; he would defeat the enemy in return for the Eternity Book, and he borrowed the Commander's soul so he could not renege. The next day the Franks believed Etrigan had gone back on his word as their forces were slaughtered at the ramparts. Only when the crusaders forces were sufficiently depleted did Etrigan reveal himself to raise the fallen soldiers from the dead to avenge themselves.
Etrigan and Jason continued to pillage for centuries, even delivering the soul of Captain Scumm directly to Lucifer. They ravaged Europe and America until Etrigan went too far in 1917. At the third battle of Ypres, Etrigan was summoned to defeat the Germans, but he brought his own demonic forces from the Pit that murdered all of Captain Blood's troops as well. Blood almost went insane when he witnessed the carnage, so Etrigan hastily cast a blanket spell to spare his host's mind, only to erase the memories Blood's entire past.

Song: Rhyming Cries of the Devil
Jason Blood, renowned as the top lead demonologist in the world, embarked on a mission commissioned by an elite group of superheroes, the Justice League. His destination? Beautiful and historic Japan. Intriguingly, the nature of this mission fell outside the ordinary realm handled by the acclaimed group, fueling his curiosity. Whatever this exceptional case may entail, he was determined to face it head-on, equipped with his unrivalled expertise in demonology.
As Jason tread through the streets of Japan, he keenly observed his surroundings until his attention was grabbed by the heart-wrenching screams echoing in the air. Determined to uncover the source of this terrifying clamor, he hastened his steps, eventually arriving at a macabre scene that unfolded before his gaze. Amidst a frenzied uproar, both humans and demons found themselves engulfed in a frantic struggle, their efforts either aimed at combating the fearsome Devilman or desperately seeking escape from his wrathful reach.
Jason Blood, unwavering amidst the chaos, straightened his posture and initiated his incantation, reciting the ancient words that summoned forth his demonic form.
"Gone, gone, the form of man. Rise the Demon... Etrigan!"
As he uttered the final word, a cloak of flickering demonic fire enveloped him, marking the mesmerizing transformation into Etrigan, the demon whose words so expertly rhyme. As Etrigan materialized, the formidable Devilman turned his gaze towards him, captivated by his formidable presence. Devilman's voice echoed through the air, challenging the newly transformed demonic entity,
"Aha! You bear a formidable appearance. Can you withstand more than this array of weaklings?"
Etrigan, displaying no fear, expanded his stance, preparing for the impending confrontation. In a poetic verse, he responded,
"Behold, Etrigan is not a weakling. If battle is thy desire, be forewarned, for thou will lament what I can bring."
In a fierce contest, both fighters sprinted towards one another, their fists clashing to create a resounding shockwave that rippled through the air. Etrigan seized the opportunity, grabbing Devilman's face and forcibly slamming him into the ground with immense force. Not one to be caught unawares, Devilman responded swiftly, transforming his eyebrows into antennae, which swiftly evaded Etrigan's grasp before unleashing scorching heat from his eyes, causing Etridian to recoil. Seizing the moment, Devilman unleashed a flurry of claw attacks, attempting to capitalize on the opening.
Etrigan's swift reflexes enabled him to intercept a claw attack with his right hand, followed by a powerful counterpunch that propelled the Devilman toward the moon with otherworldly force, creating a huge crater upon impact. The devil let out a guttural groan, gazing down to find an imprint of a fist etched into his chest. To his astonishment, he realized he had been sent soaring up to Earth's very own lunar satellite. With a surge of astonishment, Devilman mentally noted,
"What in the actual hell? No ordinary devil can wield such strength. Can't underestimate this one."
In a split second, he vanished from the moon's surface and reappeared on the Earth's soil, diligently swiping away the residual moon dust still clinging to his powerful frame. Devilman grinned mischievously, acknowledging Etrigan's strength,
"I must admit, demon, you possess extraordinary force. I can't remember the last time anyone has ever punched me so hard. It's evident that you're no ordinary demon. Therefore, facing off against you will be an exhilarating experience when I tear you limb from limb."
Etrigan, mirroring Devilman's smile, clenched his fists forcefully, resulting in a resounding pop from his knuckles. He responded with a fierce rhyme,
"Etrigan is ever prepared, eager for a fight. The more challenging the foe, the more I'll bite."
Devilman made an attempt to assault Etrigan, only to find himself intercepted and hurled high into the sky. However, displaying extraordinary agility, the devil sprouted wings and glided through the air, cackling in triumph. He then executed a daring dive bomb, swiftly striking Etrigan's face with a powerful kick, sending the mighty demon crashing to the ground.
Devilman unleashed a fiery blast, but to no avail; Etrigan stood resiliently unmoved, unaffected by the attack. Undeterred, Devilman soared through the air once more and attempted another dive bomb, only to find Etrigan expertly evading his attack. Swiftly, Etrigan snatched a colossal boulder, hurling it at Devilman. With a surge of fiery energy, Devilman dissolved the boulder into dust. Just as the devil rejoiced in his apparent victory, Etrigan took advantage of the momentary diversion, swiftly emerging from the smoke, delivering a powerful punch that connected with Devilman's face.
The resounding impact of the punch sent Devilman plunging to the ground, but with an indomitable spirit, he quickly rose to his feet, seizing the opportunity to intercept Etrigan's next punch. A defiant determination burned in his eyes as he proclaimed,
"Very good. Now it's my turn!"
With a defiant surge of strength, Devilman unleashed a powerful counterpunch, propelling Etrigan backward and crashing him into a nearby towering building. With a sudden disappearance, Devilman vanished into the shadows, leaving Etrigan momentarily confounded. Emerging from the debris of the building he had been hurled into, Etrigan scanned his surroundings, keenly searching for any signs of his elusive adversary. His eyes gleamed with steely determination as he confidently declared,
"Hiding will not let thou win. When I find thee, I will flay you of thou cowardly skin."
Suddenly, Etrigan was jolted from behind by a stealthy attack from Devilman, who seamlessly teleported in and out, delivering sneaky blows before swiftly vanishing. With a mischievous grin, Devilman taunted,
"You'll have to catch me first!"
The relentless strategy continued, with Devilman teleporting in rapid succession, striking Etrigan from behind, only to vanish in a fleeting instant. This relentless pattern left Etrigan baffled, his attempts at retaliation thwarted by the elusive Devilman.
Etrigan, displaying both patience and cunning in combat, carefully observed Devilman's pattern of attacks, anticipating his every move. As he sensed the moment was right, he seized the opportunity to clutch the devil's throat, stifling his escape. Devilman gasped, struggling, but it was too late. Etrigan unleashed a relentless assault, forcefully slamming his foe into the concrete, his fists pounding mercilessly against Devilman's face, driving his head deeper into the solid ground.
Etrigan, poised to unleash the full fury of his flaming wrath, was momentarily caught off guard as Devilman turned intangible, effortlessly slipping through the ground and emerging unharmed. Frustration surged through the demon, his attempts to strike or burn Devilman thwarted by his foe's elusive ethereal state. Despite Etrigan's futile efforts, the intangible devil remained unscathed, effortlessly slicing through his defenses with a relentless counterattack.
Seething with frustration, Etrigan channeled the ancient magic within him, commanding it to manifest his will. With a fiery determination, he invoked a spell in verse, reciting the ancient incantation:
"I evoke the powers of Hell over my foe I cannot touch. Grant me the power to crush him in my clutch."
With a monumental surge of strength, Etrigan landed a ferocious punch, slamming Devilman into the side of a towering garbage truck. Stunned and in agony, Devilman gasped for breath, his once impenetrable intangible form rendered useless against the force, his chest momentarily collapsed in before it started healing. As he struggled to comprehend the unexpected turn, a single question escaped his lips,
"H-How did you...?"
Etrigan's malevolent chuckle echoed through the air as he raised his clenched fist high. With a sinister edge to his voice, he responded with a chilling rhyme:
"Demon to devil, those born from the dark. As long as I can, I'll harm thou flesh with my mark."
As Devilman attempted to escape into the air in his intangible form, Etrigan swiftly grasped his leg, denying him any means of evasion. With a fierce spin, the powerful demon hurled Devilman forcefully into the surrounding buildings, leaving a trail of shattered rubble in his wake. With a guttural breath, Etrigan transformed into a flaming pillar of hellflame, only to rematerialize near the fallen devil, his fiery form now materialized to confront the resilient enemy who pushed his way out of the debris.
Devilman's eyes burned with rage as he faced his towering adversary, his voice filled with fury as he issued his deadly command,
"Die, demon!"
Devilman unleashed a devastating fire-breath attack, engulfing Etrigan in a wave of flames. However, Etrigan remained unfazed, his expression betraying no sense of intimidation or concern. Etrigan's taunt reverberated through the air, his words dripping with dark menace as he declared,
"This is how thy plan to make me expire? Let me show thou the real heat of hellfire."
The demon expelled a fiery plume from the depths of hell, surpassing the heat of the devil's attack. Devilman desperately sought cover, but the blistering flames seemed to penetrate more than physical barriers, searing not only his flesh but also his soul and psyche as he cried out in pain. With a desperate surge of defiance, the devil roared,
"Back off!"
His powerful wings flapped with such force that the flames were not only repelled but also pushed back at Etrigan, sending the demon flying into a pickup truck. As he attempted to rise, his body was jolted by intense bolts of electricity discharged from Devilman, thrusting him deep into the vehicle. The devil's voice echoed with a furious declaration,
"You are not my equal! I am Devilman! I am who makes Satan tremble with my power! You are nothing compared to me, demon! Nothing!"
With a bone-chilling scream, he channeled every ounce of ferocity into a powerful surge, pouring every last atom of his strength into the overwhelming force of the electricity coursing through Etrigan's body. Although the attack brought pain with each passing moment, Etrigan refused to be intimidated, gritting his teeth as he stepped forward, gradually extending his hand to ward off the full force of the blazing bolt. His voice reverberated with determination as he proclaimed,
"Even if thou art truly the Devil, thou art still but a mortal man. Despite thy immense power, thou shalt never prevail against me, for I am Etrigan!"
With a vice-like grip, Etrigan seized hold of Devilman's wrists, unleashing a ruthless clawing strike into his midriff. The devil's cries pierced the air as his entrails spilled forth, staining the ground. But the devil's regenerative abilities were unyielding, allowing the gruesome wound to miraculously heal as the injury closed and vanished without a visible scar.
Determined to continue his relentless assault, Etrigan lunged forward, only to find himself abruptly suspended in mid-air by an invisible force. The devil unleashed his telekinetic powers, effortlessly suspending his adversary in the air, while simultaneously constricting Etrigan's airways, preventing any release of hellfire. With a mighty push, Devilman propelled Etrhan backwards, sending him crashing into a towering church bell perched within the belfry of a nearby church.
Etrigan winced, covering his ears in an attempt to shield himself from the overwhelming noise that reverberated throughout the belfry as the bell rang out upon impact. The flying Devilman saw this, and grinned at seeing a weakness. He flew to the belfrey, and grasped the bell's rope.
"What's wrong, Etrigan? Can't handle a little noise?"
With a knowing glint in his eyes, Devilman swiftly tugged at it with superhuman force, amplifying the deafening clang of the bell and intensifying the cacophony to an even more painful level. Etrigan's roaring cries pierced the air in response to the piercing ringing, unable to shield himself from the unbearably loud and high-pitched sound. Sensing an advantage, the devil cackled with anticipation.
"You know, I don't think this bell is loud enough. But I am."
The devil unleashed a pure ultrasonic beam at Etrigan, blasting him forcefully against the bell. The relentless vibrations reverberated through the air, intensifying the auditory agony and causing the belfry to shake uncontrollably.
"Enough!"
Etrigan bellowed as he grasped the bell he was pinned against, wrenching it from its moorings. Clutching it firmly, he swung the bell forcefully over his head, crashing it upon Devilman's head with a tremendous impact. Both them and the bell hurtled through the spiraling, wooden staircase, crashing into the ground as they fell, followed by the bell which landed with a resounding thud, trapping Devilman beneath its weight. With a burning fury, Etrigan commanded the spell with a forceful declaration,
"I command my ears to no longer pick up sound! Silence everything around me; let noise be bound!"
The demonic power surged through his being, extending a one-mile radius bubble around him, where all sounds were completely cancelled, creating a zone of absolute quietude, free from even a faint whisper. Etrigan skillfully leaped off the bell just as Devilman forcefully tore his way out of its confines. With a defiant determination, the enraged devil attempted to release another ultrasonic beam, only to be momentarily shocked as complete silence enveloped his surroundings. Despite the absence of sound, the concussive waves from his attack still struck Etrigan, causing pain. However, Etrigan, relishing the raw intensity of brute pain, wore a sly smile, unfazed by the absence of sound.
Etrigan swiftly capitalized on the opportunity before Devilman had a chance to react, delivering an uppercut that brutally propelled the devil through the roof of the bell tower. Rising a few thousand feet into the air, Devilman forcibly halted his ascent. Feeling cornered, Devilman silently shouted as he conjured a violent vortex and a barrage of lightning storms, using his surroundings to create as hazardous an environment as possible, all the while within the bubble where everything was deceptively tranquil and silenced.
Despite the visually chaotic storm, Etrigan fearlessly soared into the heart of the tempest, unfazed by the tumultuous weather. Devilman merged five tornadoes to generate a colossal vortex, accompanied by the most immense lightning bolt he could muster. However, this only slowed Etrigan's relentless ascent, as he pressed on towards his target, preparing to deliver a decisive and potentially lethal blow.
In a final act of desperation, Devilman conjured a spatial and temporal gateway, through which Etrigan was hurled, the demon's speed rendering it impossible to dodge. The portal closed behind Etrigan, and he vanished with it. Devilman, radiating victory, ascended higher into the sky, breaking through the silence bubble. Cocky and triumphal, he roared,
"Yes! I finally did it! No one defeats Devilman!"
His moment of triumph was shattered as Devilman suddenly felt a excruciating pain in his spine, followed by an involuntary cry of agony. Bewildered, he turned his head and beheld the impossible sight of Etrigan materializing behind him, returning from the mysterious realm he had been spirited away to, who had his grip on his spine, the flesh unable to resist.
"Im-Impossible! How-how are you back?"
Devilman sputtered in disbelief, the shock of the demon's unexpected return clear in his voice. Etrigan declared with wicked satisfaction, his words tinged with a sinister rhyme.
"It matters not, in any place or time. Etrigan has his victory, which is always sublime."
With a cruel grip, the demon crushed Devilman's spine in his grasp, and with a furious strength, Etrigan tore the devil asunder, the halves of his foe plummeting back into the bubble of silence.
"How could I… the mightiest of devils… lose to him?"
Devilman pondered silently in his own thoughts, undisturbed by any noise as he hurtled back into the tempest he had conjured. However, before the fierce winds and relentless lightning storms could assail him, Etrigan seized the opportunity to deliver one last crushing blow. The demon caught Devilman by the face, and forcefully slammed him back into the ground with brutal force, winning in the end. Rising his foot, Etrigan mercilessly crushed his adversary's head into the earth beneath his heel, sealing his victory.
With a silent roar, Etrigan raised his arms in triumph, exulting in the satisfaction of yet another conquered foe that added to the entertainment value of the battle. Harnessing his magical abilities one final time, the demon dispersed the magical bubble of silence and the vicious storms, allowing a gradual return of normality to the vicinity. As the city of Tokyo began to recover its equilibrium, it was surrounded by the aftermath of the carnage unleashed in the epic struggle.
As Etrigan's demonic form disappeared in a burst of hellflame, Jason Blood once again emerged within the flame, returning to his human form. Exasperated, he surveyed the devastated surroundings, muttering a weary sigh.
"He really went all out on this one. I better call the Justice League to give me a lift."
Strength: It's undeniable that both combatants are some of the most powerful of their franchises, but DC is just way overpowered. In Devilman Crybaby, he once punched Satan in the face so hard, it created a shockwave big enough to concave a huge section of the ocean from space. Such a feat would require punching with the force of 19 Exatons. However, not only can Etrigan punch Superman to the moon, he can toy around with Lobo, who's strong enough to pull suns around with chains. Conservatively, this makes Etrigan 9.17 trillion times stronger.
Speed: Even at his fastest, Devilman never shows to be much faster than the speed of light. Wheras Etrigan can keep up with Superman, making him so fast that pulling up a comparison would't be even funny.
Skill: Both are highly skilled combatants who have fought their share of hell fiends alike, but Devilman is more used to being the dominator of a fight, with his closest match being Satan, while Etrigan is much more used to fighting demons and magic castors on his level, and still win.
Experience: Even taking account to Amon's age, which would put him thousands of years over his host, Akira, Etrigan has been around much longer, being as much as 100,000 years old. Christianity religion is only 6000 years old.
Powers: Devilman certainly has some tricks, with elemental attacks, a healing factor, sonic attacks which exploits one of Etrigan's weaknesses, and can rip a hole through time and space. But Etrigan's magic is just as versatile, and then some, as he goes up against the likes of Morgan la Fay, and can keep up with her magic.
The winner is Etrigan.
Next time:
"Jackpot!"
"Fools set the rules in this world. Just look around. It's undeniable."
