"I've lived a life seeing things beyond normal but this..."
Storms of Set were not something easily pinned down and recognized everyone. What with Kaiba being notorious about his loathing of his past, it created a duality for his storms. They weren't wild destruction, rather an intense cleansing event. The elements divinely called down were all intended to drive out a corruption be it man or demon. Kaiba's own intolerance for slow and steady things that were Ancient Egyptian related, made the wild storms he generated all the wilder.
Kaiba, Seto was being interrupted by divine duties and annoyed by it. Thus to fix this problem 'now' so he could get back to his sane, normal, mundane work.
Storms.
For just about everyone those storms were tsunami or hurricane warning intense. However; Malik had discovered over the years that those with a touch of the spiritual side to them would recognize them better. Stand in the storm, it would leave your soul feeling lighter, feather touch comfort by the divine hands of a god who 'did' care... Just had problems expressing it.
Those who knew Kaiba?
A host of Blue Eyes White Dragons flew around them, in his vision. Lightning that had 'every' reason to strike them struck a dragon and super charged the spirit. And while he couldn't see it from his position; the hail pelted the wings above them as the dragons flew in formation insuring that the helicopter didn't get smashed into the ground.
"I'm here. You are Protected under my wings," was a message he hadn't felt in ages.
"I never realized how much I needed this feeling," Malik confessed as he blinked away tears. It was a feeling that eased worry over his daughter. A feeling that eased his alarm at the barely visible power struggle happening near where Momentum was housed. It was Isis' motherly touch on one shoulder, Rashid's large strong hand on the shoulder.
"She's has so much potential, a lively soul. I can't wait to meet her."
Isis was sitting on his yacht the wind was rippling through her hair while a book rested on her lap. The day was bright, the waves gentle and Egypt was on the horizon. But Isis never met his wife or daughter.
'That isn't a memory, you were gone long before I was a man who was married or a father... What is this?' Malik asked himself as lightning danced off the wings of dragons.
"Beautiful and strong in spirit, I, too which to meet them as soon as we arrive." Rashids' voice was a relaxed rumble as he sat down at the table with Isis...
So who was steering?
Malik sat in the cockpit of the helicopter conflicted. When Yugi left, his royal court left to attend to him. Using Mahaado's name did not awaken the spirit in any of the Dark Magician cards they had gotten. Access to the Duel Spirit world was lost to everyone so there was no way to try and reach his tablet. 'When did I become a man given to flights of fancy?'
"They are 'not' coming back!" Mokuba snarled into the roaring rumble of the helicopter. Snapping Malik's attention back with his biting words as this haunted expression flickered on Mokuba's face as he looked about. It was an understandable expression, Malik had seen it on his face when he had been forced to retire his motorcycle. How the memories played so hard that when he would return to the garage, muscle memory sent him to a place now rented to another newer bike.
"Papa, do you miss your bike?"
"Yes, my little princess."
Lightning wasn't hitting them, but the winds were certainly trying to send them flying off course. The dragons couldn't do much for the winds and Malik was beginning to question the safety of using the helicopter to reach the battle ground.
"You see Kaiba? Yugi?" Malik asked ignoring Mokuba's likely expression of outrage for the worrying sight of abroad.
Mokuba slammed the helicopter into autopilot and snapped around enough so he could glare at Malik directly. "No. I don't hallucinate."
Sighing and openly rolling his eyes Malik let his gaze of the outside world strain to fine some sign of normality. Yet there was only the quiet horror before them. Momentum, for all the good it did, 'had' taken jobs away from sectors. The area they were flying over was once a distribution center for the city, an area where oil, gas, was collected before being distributed through out the city. After Momentum the power company and its stations were shut down and slowly the outlying businesses moved into those sections.
There were no longer any electric, gas, or oil companies. For Neo Domino, who had originated the program, the city had to be restructured, a task that took both decades to complete. The land being opened up allowed Momentum to expand, and once it reached its proper size it was able to extend its ability world wide.
Where they were now.
There were offices around the Momentum building, both for it and for new companies that came up in the wake of Momentum and the Zero Reverse incident. All of it was now powdered concrete. 'Kaiba upgraded his storms I think...' Malik mused as his gaze wandered over the numerous mounds of pulverized buildings.
"We should land," Malik suggested when the wind gusts started to bodily move the copter out of its flight path. "We're not too far..." He possibly lied. There were no roads anywhere in sight, instead there were impressive hills and valleys. Concrete dust kicked into the air by hail stones then buried under more hail. It had the effect of giving the ground this gray muddy appearance.
"They are 'never' coming back!"
"Maybe that's why the deck won't work for you! Yugi was always about the 'heart of the cards' about connecting with the beyond in blind faith. Yet this deck is meant to reach 'him' specifically. So what is tainting your faith?"
Mokuba didn't bother dignifying Malik's short sighted comment before he turned back to the controls. He scoured the ground for a possible landing spot, not an easy thing to look for. The grounds were constantly being churned by the hail, and in the distance that twisted light was fading away into the darkness. 'The heart of cards was just a philosophy that Yugi used to explain how he was getting what he needed all the time. But he's God. He can do whatever, there's nothing stopping him from coming back except himself.'
Finding a landing spot felt preposterous at this point, every spot of land looked like another. Especially with the storm slowly winding down, the lightning wasn't providing enough light for him to make a more discerning call. 'The ground looks like gray mud, if I land and that soaked concrete dries is it going to trap the copter?' he pondered. It felt foolish, but the Dragons could make that a reality on their own.
"There should be... a small park where I could land." Mokuba noted as he began to circle as he tried to remember where it was. It wasn't just a park, it was the memorial for Zero Reverse. It didn't involve KaibaCorp, yet it was expected that all the large companies be represented. Thus Mokuba had attended as the head of KaibaCorp... A large fountain, some grass... 'So is the fountain in one piece or should I be looking for a massive plume of water?' he pondered.
The water would be pushing the concrete out so realistically it 'could' be visible, yet if the damage was severe or deep enough to damage the water lines...
"Wait... Mokuba... Do you see anything 'beyond' the Momentum office?" Malik asked, his voice strangely worried.
"What?" Mokuba took his gaze from examining the ground to the office. "It looks fi-..." the words died on his lips as he began to realize what Malik was talking about. The KaibaCorp Head Office was a tower north west of Momentum, but there were at least 20 city blocks and twice as many buildings between the two. From his office floor he could see Momentum and the numerous buildings between him and the Project.
Those buildings...
He swept his gaze towards the horizon and only empty space greeted his alarmed sight. 'He's at the Momentum main office.' Played on repeat in Mokuba's head yet this level of destruction...
"Big Brother! Why? Why won't you protect us?!" Mokuba stared at the blood soaked robed figure that 'felt' like his brother.
"Set! Please! There has to be 'something' you can do?!" Mai was actively shaking the figure, but while she whipped back and forth in a controlled manner. 'Set' didn't budge.
"We can't wait any more... God, Yugi whoever... Is that 'im?!" Valon demanded behind the pair. All around them Mahaado had generated an illusion of the universe, of Zorc and all the things Zorc was about to destroy.
The only part of the universe not visible was from where the two large tablets of Blue Eyes White Dragon and Mahaado's own Dark Magician stood. Side by side a pair of powerful thick stone doors, doors that had been forced open once and only once. While the planets and stars of a universe danced oblivious to the oncoming death.
These doors stood eternal.
"This is where we stood guarding the Pharaoh for these thousands of years." Mahaado had explained, "But Set never did approve, and for every day we stood guarding he stood trying to tear us open to get to the Pharaoh. So as to free Him from His self appointed task to keep the demon from all creation. Such uncultured barbaric methods though left the chains hanging and this is where his divine self resides. Uselessly holding chains for its prisoner has long since escaped."
'Pray to Kaiba if you want to protect those you love. Pray to 'Yugi' if you want something obliterated beyond redemption.'
Only Kaiba never answered...
The man who would protect a hospital and call down Ra wouldn't protect the universe when his brother asked him to?!
"So you're saying Big Brother protected... just Momentum Project's main office and left all of this..."
"This isn't residential?" Malik asked, since there 'was' still standing buildings, but he wasn't quite sure 'where' the residential was in this situation. "There are people in the area, but that is only in residential, so..." out of the window he could see other buildings standing. Some even had a light shimmering from a window or such, a faint reminder that the city hadn't been fully abandoned.
Kaiba allowing the destruction of a sector, but not the 'one' thing in that sector that could play havoc once more on the whole world?
"I can see lights in the distance so there are buildings still standing." Malik reported dutifully before returning his gaze on the front of the helicopter. "Any luck finding a semi safe landing zo... Stardust!"
The dragon rose up as this silvery filament soaring up into the sky, sparks of light burst into being in the dragons' presence. For Malik it was the dragons' 'wings' that always got his attention, the dragon was on the scrawny side compared to others. Yet the wings were massive, giving the illusion, when it was rising up like this, that the dragon was a sheltering tent.
Stardust soared up, yet its attention was away from the pair and their helicopter for a time. Then the dragon twisted in the air to rotate itself into facing them. A sweep of wings and the dragon was darting towards them. Its slender body brought back the memory of Yugi's snake form. How it manifested three pairs of wings, Osiris' wings were red, but they were the same draconic fashion.
'Well the Crimson Dragon loosely ties the group to you right?' Malik thought to Yugi though Osiris definitely had a larger type of face than Stardust.
"Oh wait we don't speak dragon..."
"Hey Stardust," Witch chirped out as she appeared by the dragon's head. "Yusei through Aki wanted to know..." she began when she took in the sight of the people in the helicopter. "Why Ryu and Zalinka's dads are here. Oh that's going to go over well..." The witch mused aloud.
"Yeah, Ryu's using that deck that his father doesn't want him even touching isn't he?" Stardust asked and internally sighed. "Oh you can't understand me either... Ok I want Fairy's ability." He grumbled but retreated back to Yusei.
Meanwhile Witch made herself intangible enough that she could just float into the helicopter. "Ok, I get that you're worried about your kids. But you 'do' realize you're flying into an active, excuse me?" She cut herself off at the mad grab and slightly unhinged glare Kaiba was giving her.
"Where. Is. My. Son." Kaiba snarled at the witch as his free hand uselessly struggled to catch the fancy doll hovering in the air.
"Hello," Malik greeted with a suffering look on his face, his eyes pleading forgiveness when he opened again. "How goes the battle?"
"Well, until they can find Trueman and Yubel again no where. Yubel had a light off against Blue Eyes and this is the outcome... Everything is flattened." She gestured with her wand to the outside world. "Um, since I know its you, I'm kind of curious, why are you flying 'this' way? The fight is happening over at the Momentum building."
"Can you guide us to the park near the building?" Mokuba asked, with an edge of it being an order.
"Why? Wait why are we going there? The helicopter is going to be fine. Sure it might sink a bit under the weight but..." Malik asked growing confused. Outside far below there was this sea of gray mud. While it was true construction wasn't his thing, he was pretty sure concrete didn't revert... "Its Kaiba isn't it? You think he would just fix everything where it stands? Even slothed down into mud?"
The older man turned to look at Mokuba his confusion clear in his face, as was the bitterness in Mokuba's. All the while Witch felt relieved that her eyes didn't reveal her ping ponging between the two.
"Well he's not here to see what's going on, and he is the 'lesser' of the two gods." Mokuba pointed out with venom, his eyes scanning the churning mud like a laser at a barcode.
"You were there Mokuba." Malik pointed out sternly, "we all were. Sure Jounouchi managed to stop time, but it damn near killed him to stop time for all of Domino! Kaiba doesn't just fix the concrete below us into nice new slabs. He gets involved its going to remold itself right into its shape of whatever building. He's lesser sure, but he brought the whole city of Domino back to life out of sheer determination. Your brother is the only other being in the 'universe' who can defy death itself temporarily! What is wrong with you? Have you forgotten?!"
"And what good did that do for Zero Reverse? We lost Mai and Valon in it!" Mokuba shot back while Witch twisted her hands around her wand in growing anxiousness.
"He's not here 'close' isn't 'here'!" Malik pointed out, wondering if this was how Bakura felt when Malik had been particularly stubborn back in those days.
"Yet the sky has Blue Eyes, only a large portion of abandoned city is destroyed while at its epicenter is Momentum. He's 'here' and he's not doing a damn thing to help or come back!" Mokuba slammed the controls back out of autopilot so he could ignore Malik.
"He's here?" Malik repeated slowly, as though the notion was something that took a great deal of effort to process. "You think he would want this?" Malik flung his hand out to encompass the devastation around them in mounting anger.
"Well I'm sure not using that worthless deck! And he took the only real copies of the Blue Eyes cards!" Mokuba snapped back as Witch flinched.
"While its true..." She squeaked out as she floated between the men as Mokuba had stood up and helicopters weren't known for their leg room. "That the deck isn't here... Ryu 'is' using it, he's called out Superia, Black Luster Soldier, Bastest and a Change of Mind spell card activated for him..."
