A/N: A short scene following my idea how Flynn may react upon discovering his girlfriend will be his new boss, should they have been dating since the Closer era. I'm not a very angsty person so I apologize if this is not what you have in mind about baring so much emotion in such a situation. I know it is a serious situation and may entail a great deal of serious conversation between them, but I'd like to keep it light and fluffy. I hope you'd still enjoy.
It was dropped on them like a bomb. Loud and alarming, totally unexpected, and earth-shattering; leaving a big wave of devastation to everyone affected by it. None looked more gravely affected by the news than Andy Flynn. To say the least that he was upset and angry was an understatement. Of all the bastards or bitches in the world, the one to have to take over the Major Crimes department was his girlfriend of two and a half years, and one would expect that a relationship that long would entail a great deal of honesty, and she didn't even tell him. She must have known long before today.
He crushed the empty bottle of soda he was holding, making a loud, crumbling noise that made everyone in his department look his way. He didn't care. They were all gathered at the Murder Room when Chief Pope announced the changes that were happening in the LAPD. For one, he was stepping down and Commander Russel Taylor would be filling the post as Police Chief.
Everyone was silent, listening intently to the balding police chief. Then the announcement came, an announcement that whacked the equilibrium and peace of his world. Chief Johnson resigned and took Seargent Gabriel with her, and to take over as head of Major Crimes was Captain Sharon Raydor.
He didn't have time to assimilate the news, to let it sink in first before he could gauge his feelings over the fact that his girlfriend was going to be his boss. He let his temper get the better of him again as the surprise ensued a rude expletive from his mouth after he crushed the can of soda.
"Fuckin' Hell!"
His colleagues, albeit used to his temper, were stunned by his insolent display of displeasure in front of the chief of police.
"Lt. Flynn, this is the first and the last time I will let your abominable behavior slide. I suggest you keep the foul language away from your superiors' ears," said Pope.
As a result, Andy uttered a curt "Excuse me, chief" before striding out of the Murder Room.
Pope gave him a nod of acknowledgement and allowed him to sulk his displeasure out of his presence. He knew the two were not exactly on good terms.
Sharon was best at hiding her emotions. Her expression was always unfathomable. No one could tell what was going on in her mind, except the man who owned her heart, the man who was keeper of her secrets, keeper of her heart, and she could see from where she stood up front in the middle of the Murder Room with Pope that his face turned red with anger, you could almost see the smoke emanating from his head before he excused himself out of the room. She should remind him to drink his blood pressure medicine.
She knew he was not upset about the commendation. He was after all, she learned in those years they were together, her number cheerleader. He was always proud of her even if they argued and bickered at times. Perhaps it was somewhat her fault for not telling him beforehand. She didn't find the right time… perhaps she should have made the right time to give him a few days or even a week to accept the circumstances that she would be his boss.
"I want all of you to extend the same respect, courtesy, and cooperation you have given to Chief Johnson to Captain Raydor."
I could sense the displeasure of everyone in the department but unlike my hot-tempered boyfriend who was blatant with his feelings, the rest of the department was subdued, even Provenza who must have expected to fill in the post after Chief Johnson's departure was not overtly throwing his animosity despite his disappointment.
"Commander, I want you to talk to Flynn. I don't want him to give Captain Raydor a hard time," said Pope.
Commander Taylor patted the back of the older officer.
"Don't worry. I'll have a word with him tomorrow."
They all went back to their business after Pope dismissed them. It was almost five thirty and Sharon lingered on, hoping to talk to Andy. He must still be in the PAB, his things were still on his desk.
By the time everyone from Major Crimes had left, Andy's things were still on his desk, and he was still nowhere in sight. The auburn-haired Captain sighed and gathered Andy's dark grey Montblanc leather satchel from his desk that she gave him for their last anniversary, which happened to be his birthday too, and went out in search of him.
She wasn't a very sentimental person, but Andy was, not to a lot of people's knowledge. After dancing around their mutual attraction for almost a year, they had become official. On the day he brought her to Cancun to celebrate his birthday two years ago, she was persuaded by the sexy hot-tempered Lieutenant to officially be his girl.
Provenza had gone to the men's bathroom on their floor and on the floor above in search of Andy, but he was not sulking in either bathroom. He tried the Break Room, and the unofficial smoking area on the roof deck but still he was nowhere in sight. He knew he was just as frustrated as everyone on the squad to have the uptight, no-nonsense Darth Raydor as their new boss, but he wanted to talk to his partner about taking a reign of his emotions. Provenza had overheard Pope and Taylor talking about him.
Provenza was about to give up and go home when he found Andy leaning back against the side of his car with Captain Raydor standing across from him. Andy's parking spot was inconspicuous. He loved that spot because it was located at the far end of the second-floor car park, away from the cctvs and far from building door. He sometimes took a nap during breaktime instead of having lunch and no one would bother him.
His first impression was that the wicked witch was giving his friend a piece of her mind for his behavior this afternoon but as he drew closer, there was something different about them. For one she stood much closer than an appropriate distance considering they were only talking, and they were not even friends supposedly, but their body language was different. He knew it was not his business, and he should just ask Andy about it the next day, but he was totally intrigued with their body language. It was not a typical Flynn-Raydor interaction. He stealthily approached so he could observe them closely and hear their conversation without them knowing. To his surprise, he saw Captain Raydor hand Andy his satchel bag.
"I'm sorry for the way I behaved. I wasn't thinking straight…" started Andy as he accepted his bag from her.
She remained quiet. Looking at him, waiting for him to continue.
"I really have no idea how I'm going to take this… Having my girlfriend boss me around all day at work…"
Andy avoided her eyes. His arms were crossed. It was evident he was confused and upset.
"Maybe I should put in for a transfer. It has been a big challenge enough whenever you end up working with us on a case."
Captain Raydor closed the little distance between them and touched his arm affectionately.
"Andy, no! You love Major Crimes. You love your work, your colleagues. They both bring out the best in you. I won't let you throw it all away. Besides, you ought to be used to it by now. You've been handling the challenge pretty well all these years."
A slow smile crept onto his lips. Damn she was beautiful, and he just couldn't remain angry with her, but he still maintained a frustrated expression.
Sharon knew she had him, and it pleased her. She moved closer, and with a flirtatious glint in her eyes, she whisper in his ear. Provenza almost missed it, but he was close enough to catch it.
"I don't hear you complain when I boss you out of the office."
Andy replied in exasperation, "That's different. I get to punish you after you boss me around. You think I can come in your office anytime and punish you when your behavior becomes too much?"
Sharon couldn't help but bite her lips to suppress a laugh. She looked at him in amusement. He really was naughty and if she didn't know him, she would think he was serious.
Andy gave her a wry smile.
"See? I don't think so… You can't even lie that you will let me have my way with you in your office."
Sharon leaned against the car just beside him, their shoulders touching.
"If it will make you feel better, when I become unreasonable and exert my power too much, you can wait till we are in the bedroom… then you can punish me twice or thrice as much."
Her expression became solemn, but her words were teasing that Andy could not help but grin and put his arm around her.
She leaned her head on his shoulder and added in a flirtatious manner.
"Or my lips can make it up to you… you know how my mouth can easily ease your anger and frustration away."
Andy laughed.
"Now you're talking! I love those lips on me, and I love to hear you scream when I punish you."
His fingers caressed her chin before drawing her face closer for a tender kiss.
She smiled back at him.
"And your punishments are always welcome, Lieutenant. They evoke a special kind of scream."
Her acquiescence incited him. Thinking they were alone in Andy's parking spot, Andy pressed her body against the car until their foreheads were touching, his arms around her, and his hands cradling the back of her head, his eyes boring in hers, and his lips merely inches away from hers.
"Since you love how I punish you, Captain. Does that mean you will be an infuriating, unreasonable obnoxious boss?"
Sharon could see the depths of his desire in his smoldering eyes, and it excited her relentlessly.
"It depends. Do you want me to?" she asked innocently.
"What I want is to hear you scream my name…"
She could feel his want pressing harder against her navel.
It drove her crazy knowing how much he wanted her.
"Don't I always, Lieutenant?"
Her words were barely out of her lips when Andy's lips crushed into hers as he molded her against his masculine frame.
Upon hearing the exchange, Provenza's jaw dropped to the floor. He could not believe his own ears and his own eyes. He must be older than he thought that his eyes and ears must be deceiving him.
Damn! Just how many years had Flynn been frolicking with the wicked witch of FID? With the way they were looking at each other this could not have happened two weeks ago.
He couldn't believe his radar had gone off. There were times over the years that Flynn had bowed out of a boys' night out because of a date. Never for the life of him had he thought Flynn had been seeing the same woman the past three years!
It had to have been three years. It's been three years since he told him he wasn't interested in any joints with women. Provenza didn't think much about it as Flynn started actively going to Sunday church around the same time ad thought it was the reason. Now he realized he had been attending church with an auburn-haired uptight Captain.
He cringed at how they were torridly kissing beside Flynn's car. Now he knew the ice queen was only a façade.
Egad! He didn't need to hear those intimate details in their conversation. He didn't need to know the specifics of their relationship. Had he known his friend and partner had lost his mind, he would have taken him to a psychiatrist.
He turned back and started towards his car after he found Andy lifting Captain Raydor by her buttocks and twirling her around a bit, giggling like a schoolboy. He decided against talking to Andy about his cursing because right now he could think of zillion curses seeing his friend badly smitten with Captain Raydor.
"You've been a bad girl, Captain Raydor. Keeping this transfer from me. I ought to teach you a lesson," he said, dropping her a few inches from his embrace so that her face was now levelled with his. She shrieked a little, thinking he had dropped her, but he only landed her gently on her feet before capturing her lips with his own.
She smiled after they had broken the kiss.
"Oh dear, looks like I will be up all night with my punishment."
"Looks like you won't be walking straight tomorrow on your first day at work, Captain."
They giggled as they drove off in Flynn's car.
Early the next day, Andy found Provenza seriously working on his computer. The squad room was still empty, and the best friends were the only two people around.
"Hey, Provenza, you're early today. Afraid the wicked witch will have your hide if you are as much as a minute late?" Andy laughed, pulling the seat out of his desk to settle down and drink his cup of Americano.
Provenza gave him a disgusted look and then resumed his typing.
"You looked awfully happy for someone who walked out of the room after hearing the news Captain Raydor is taking over Major Crimes."
Andy leaned back on his chair, grinning.
"I happen to wake up on the right side of the bed," he joked.
He gave Flynn another disgusted look. He was often grumpy that Flynn was used to his sour moods.
"I couldn't sleep a wink last night. What I witnessed by the parking lot yesterday was enough to give me nightmares for the rest of my career life. I am going to file a sick leave for three days in the hope that I could wrap myself around the fact that my best friend is banging the boss!"
Andy choked on his coffee upon hearing Provenza's words.
"And if I still cannot recover from what I have heard and witnessed, I'm putting a request for transfer... better yet… I should go on early retirement."
