Hello everybody! For those unaware, this is a reboot to my story "Rise of the Monster Hero" which centered around a prequel AU to My Hero Academia and focuses on the backstory of the canon expy of Godzilla, "Monster Hero: Godzillo". While I had fun writing the handful of chapters I did, things got a bit overbearing to plan out so I decided to reboot it here in the form of an adaption of the actual My Hero Academia series.
Some of this is retooled straight from the original story and will feature a handful of OCs from it based on kaiju characters (both Godzilla and non-Godzilla).
After ten long and grueling months, the day had finally arrived for young Izuku Midoriya.
The day of the UA Entrance Exam had come and he was ready, according to All Might at least. A nervous energy coerced through his body as he made some shaky steps towards the entrance, his anxiety weighing down on him.
Off to the side of Midoriya is another teenage boy, one with a lot more confidence. He's wearing a red shirt under a black coat that reached partway down his dark baggy pants, gray fingerless gloves, and black shoes. His hair is black and spiked up, pairing with his fierce red eyes locked onto the U.A. building.
The stranger glances to the side, hearing the small incident of Midoriya almost tripping onto his face but saved by a cute brunette girl. He rolled his eyes at the clumsy display but got distracted as something vibrated in his pocket. Pulling out revealed it to be his smartphone shaking to signal a call with"Father"on the screen.
The boy scoffed and declined the call, shoving the phone back in his pocket as he made his way inside.
Far away from the hero school, a man gave a sigh as he stares at his cell phone with an answering machine audibly playing. The man has a clean white lab coat over black apparel, contrasting his shortened black hair and slight facial hair.
Sitting at a desk in a somewhat spacious office, the man takes off his glasses and begins to rub his eyes in exasperation. He then stands out of his chair and looks out a nearby window at U.A. Academy, which can be seen in the far distance.
"Haruo..." The man mutters as he puts his glasses back on and continues to stare. He looks at his phone and considers trying again before he gets interrupted by a voice from an intercom.
"DR. SERIZAWA, PLEASE REPORT TO LAB 54. I REPEAT, DR. SERIZAWA TO LAB 54."
The man, now identified as Dr. Serizawa, gives a small grunt and gives the distant school one last glance before he makes his way out of his office.
"Wow, it's the Voice Hero Present Mic!" Midoriya tried his best to keep his excited voice down, "I love listening to his radio show! UA teachers really are all heroes..."
Midoriya's blonde childhood friend, Katsuki Bakugou, to his side mutters with annoyance, "Will you shut up?"
"Here's how our test is gonna go, little listeners," the hero Present Mic announces, "You'll have ten minutes within a mock city and, using your abilities and whatever equipment you want, defeat three kinds of faux villains worth different point values!"
"May I ask a question?!"
Present Mic paused as a member of the audience stood up, a boy with blue hair and glasses holding up a sheet of paper. Beside him, another boy with silver hair and gold eyes facepalmed, "Tenya, please..."
Tenya pointed at the sheet, "According to this handout, there should no fewer thanfourfaux villains for this exam! Such a potential error is highly unbecoming for the top hero academy!" He suddenly turned and pointed at Midoriya several rows behind him, "And you with the curly hair!"
Midoriya's face blanked, "Huh?"
Tenya glared, "Your constant muttering is distracting. If this is some kind of game for you-..."
He grunted as his seating neighbor grabbed his shoulder, "Okay that's enough professional criticism for a day!" With a pull, Tenya was forced back into his chair.
Before Tenya could say anything else, Present Mic answered his earlier point, "Well nice catch, Examinee 7111! The fourth faux villain isn't worth any points at all and is just an obstacle. Think of it like those Thwomp enemies in the Super Mario games, unstoppable living gimmicks in your way!"
Tenya nodded, "I understand, thank you! Sorry for the interruption!"
Seeing the boy satisfied, Present Mic continued, "Now for this exam, we'll be splitting you up in various groups..."
Shortly after the presentation, the examinees found themselves transported to the various areas around the mock city. Now all the hopeful teenagers just stand around and wait for the time to enter. Some are eager, some are steeling themselves, and some like Midoriya are dealing with an impending panic attack.
The green-haired boy couldn't help feeling underpowered compared to the group around him, surging with confidence. A variety of developed powers compared to something he wasn't even sure he had yet. But then his mood brightens when he's able to spy a familiar girl quietly standing in place.
Midoriya's eyes widened,"It's that girl from earlier! I should thank her for helping me."
He could only take a single step before a familiar boy wearing glasses grabbed his shoulder, the one who singled Midoriya out in the presentation hall. Tenya glares, "That girl seems to be prepping herself, you shouldn't-..." Whatever Tenya planned to say is interrupted by his earlier seatmate, elbowing his side. It's not enough to hurt but it does cause Tenya to take a step back.
The silver-haired boy sighs, "Come on, he looks nervous enough. You don't need to pressure him." Opposed to Tenya's blue body suit, this teen has something resembling a bright orange and white uniform complete with a tie.
Tenya raised his eyebrows and took a more perceptive look at Midoriya to take in his current state before looking away in guilty, "I didn't mean for that."
Midoriya held a shaky hand, "N-No, I get it. I probably shouldn't bother her..."
"Probably," Tenya's companion replied, "But that just means you'll just have to talk to her once you both get into UA."
At that, he turned away and dragged Tenya with him by the arm. The interaction weirded Midoriya out a bit but he couldn't help but feel more relaxed from the friendly interaction.
"AND BEGIN!"
Nevermind.
After a bit of prodding from Present Mic on the announcement speaker, all of the examinees rushed into the mock city to begin their exam with Midoriya trailing behind. They all left Haruo standing there, not paying mind to being completely behind the pack.
The teen's body tenses up while his red eyes start to glow, something that happens casually while Haruo takes off his jacket and shoes to place on the ground. Turning back to the exam, his eyes shift to glowing blue as his body starts to change.
Minutes into the exam, Kyoka Jiro was having a hard time keeping her stamina. As soon as the exam started, she had been running around and destroying whatever robots she could. Thankfully her quirk, an extendable pair of earphone jacks coming out of her earlobes, worked great against the machines. She just needs to poke them and inject the increased sound of her heartbeat, rattling and destroying them through overwhelming vibrations.
At this point Jiro's certain a lot of points have been added to her name but she couldn't just stop and rest with such limited time remaining. She spied a two-pointer and sent out her jacks at it.
"DIE!"
The robot burst to pieces in a powerful blast, slightly burning Jiro's appendage and ringing her ears. She recoiled back and glared at the offender, an aggressive blond boy standing over the wreckage of the machine. He paid her no mind as he just admired his destruction, shooting an explosion out of his hand and blasting away to find another target.
Jiro growled, "Watch your friendly fire asshole!" She fought through the minor pain and ran along to find another robot.
By the time she found another 3-pointer, this one also got destroyed right in front of her. A massive teen, at least six feet tall with bulging muscles had landed and crushed the mock villain to bits. Brown hair covered his arms, reaching and connecting to the hair on his head and even extended into a beard that makes him look much older than a teenager. All round, the boy looked very apeish.
His imposing appearance and display of raw power made Jiro nervous. She flinched as his eyes turned to her.
"Sorry!" She stammered out, running to find another part of the city to explore, "Won't bother you!"
He watched her go with a raised eyebrow, then simply shrugged.
"SKREEONK"
A loud roar echoed in the distance, causing him to pause and look in that direction. While he didn't see what could've made that sound, two large 3-point villains soared through the air and slammed into the side of building.
Taking a moment to think, the tall boy turned and walked the opposite direction.
"SMASH!"
With a force of generations combined, Midoriya launched a powerful punch greater than his body could handle. The massive 0-point robot's head tore apart under the raw power and stumbled backwards as it crumbled. It came from pure instinct, seeing the familiar brunette girl in trouble and his body just moved on its own to awaken One for All.
While amazed at his newfound might, the boy couldn't help but notice the mechanical behemoth's descent towards a few confused examinees.
"Ah crap! I didn't mean to do that, what should I do!?"
Thankfully, he didn't have to do anything. Instead a sudden burst of light flashed in the machine's path, pushing it away and crumbling into much smaller and less destructive pieces. While the sudden action confused Midoriya, a rush of pain from his broken limbs and the realization of his falling body overtook his mind.
Below on ground level, the source of the flash of light sits on her knees and pants heavily. A young brunette woman with long hair reaching below her hips and bright blue eyes that had a slight glow to them. Her more striking features though are the white and red tattoo-like markings decorated over her tanned skin and the large moth wings stretching behind her back. Like her eyes, the wings had a slight glow to them, almost like they're reacting to the sunlight.
As she attempts to catch her breath, a boy walks over to her and sneered, "Well that was pointless of you, Miana."
He has black hair with yellow tips, spiked in all directions. Opposed to the Miana's eyes, his are a bright purple and he has his own set of markings, patterns of red and black on tanned skin. He also have a set of black and red wings that looked more insectoid than the girl's that also had a dim glow to them.
He knelt in front of her, "Now you wasted all of that power."
Miana glanced at him, "Others could have been hurt by collateral...I couldn't just leave it."
"I'm sure there were instructors to keep people getting hurt, so while you were wasting time I managed to get some more points," The other just turned and scoffed, "If this causes you to fail, you have no one to blame but yourself."
He starts to walk away from her, leaving Miana to just sigh, "Hidemi..."
Back in the air, Midoriya is still in a massive panic as the ground is fast approaching. With one arm and both legs out of commission, all that can go through his mind is to sacrifice his last remaining limb to impact the ground. A risky move for such an unexperienced boy.
But it turns out he has no need to worry about that as something large leaps into the air and grabs Midoriya. They slam into the side of a building, kicking up a dust cloud as they both slide down the side of the structure to the safe ground.
Midoriya coughs heavily and tries to rub the dust out of his eyes, only to yelp as he's painfully tossed onto the concrete.
"Thanks..." Midoriya groaned as he looked at his savior, a large shadow hidden by the dust cloud. Glowing blue eyes glare down at him, only for the shadow to shrink in size until it shrunk to about Midoriya's own height. The air clears to reveal the same black haired teen who witnessed him almost fall on his face earlier that day.
He growled, "You stole my kill."
Suddenly reminded of Bakugou, Midoriya flinched on the ground, "Um, what?"
The stranger leaned down and glared, "That thing was mine to take down, I was bored."
Midoriya was confused about his priorities, given the robot was only worth zero points. "Bored...?"
"Falling boy!" The brunette from earlier, who was almost crossed by the massive 0-pointer, ran over to Midoriya. She leaned over him in concern, "Are you okay?"
Despite his pain and confusion, Midoriya managed a nervous smile, "A-Ah, no problem! Just had a little problem with my landing. I would've been in trouble if it weren't for..."
Midoriya glanced back only to see his savior suddenly gone. He thought to himself,"Oh...Well hopefully he didn't waste time saving me so he could get enough points...WAIT, POINTS!?"
"TIME'S UP!"
Outside of the mock city, the black haired teen just grumbled to himself as he walked away, having retrieved his shoes and jacket. While he had managed to score a lot of points between the various mock villains, they were weak. Under the raw power of his quirk they tore to pieces almost instantly. That massive 0-pointer looked to be something that could bring a little excitement but that wimpy boy took it out. Of course that display of power was incredible but judging by the excessive damage it left the user, a fight between them wouldn't be very worthwhile.
As he made it to the sidewalk and proceeded to walk home, he pulled out his cell phone to check any messages. When he found none, he just scrolled through his contacts and found the one named "Father". His finger hovered over the call button.
"..."
After a few seconds, he grunted and put it back in his pocket, choosing instead to continue walking in silence. He pulled out a pair of earbuds to put on and was about to select a song when a voice suddenly called out his name.
"Haruo! I thought I recognized you!"
Haruo stopped and looked behind him as he saw a brunette girl with a ponytail, tied with a yellow ribbon, run up to him. She wore a yellow shirt under a white jacket with black stripes along the sleeves, paired with a dark blue skirt over black tights. Her hair had bangs which slightly covered her equally brown eyes. A large smile adorned her face as she caught up with the red-eyed boy.
Haruo grunted, "Saegusa. It's been some time." The boy turned back around and continued walking, albeit slow enough to let the girl catch up to him and walk by his side.
She rolled her eyes at the comment, "Middle school ended only a couple months ago. I know you'reoh so busyall of the time, but it wouldn't hurt to give a call every now and then...Also I keep saying you can call me Miki, all of my friends do."
Haruo gave a scoff, "Is that what we are?" He left it at that until he noticed her glare, "Fine, helloMiki. Better?"
Miki gave a small smile as her answer, satisfied with the compliance of her stoic friend. The two continued to walk in an awkward yet comfortable silence. Haruo, however, felt the need to bring up an inquiry.
"So why are you here, shouldn't you be at that special psychic social group of yours?"
The brunette answered, "I decided to some time off from them. They're just some people I went to after school so it's not like I'm needed. Besides, I spent today applying to a new school."
"A new school?" Haruo pondered for a moment before he came to a realization and inquired with a raised eyebrow, "You can't seriously mean you applied for U.A.?"
She cheekily replied, "That's right, jealous I may have stolen your spot?"
The boy grunted, "Oh please. You all of a sudden decided to be a pro hero?"
"Nope." Miki continued, "Heroics aren't my thing, so I just focused on the written portions while I simply watched the practical exam."
Haruo frowned, "I see, you signed for General Studies. I should've known."
She rolled her eyes, "Well U.A. does have some top-quality education even in its Hero Course. Being the #1 heroschoolafter all. I'll probably see you there, you went on quite the rampage."
Haruo frowned, "Those things were pathetic, I could probably beat a few even without transforming. My quirk begs challenge and that shrimp stole some of that."
Miki let out a questioning hum, "The kid who punched the big robot? I saw you saved him. That's kinda out of character for you."
"I'm not a monster." Miki held back a laugh while Haruo shot her a deadpan look, "I mean I'm not avillain."
"No no, I understand. Go on."
With a grunt, Haruo narrowed his eyes at the path ahead of him, "It's whatever. With an unbalanced power like that, I doubt he'll pass. U.A. will have better opponents to stack up against and improve my quirk.
With a frown, Miki asked, "Is it not strong enough already?"
Haruo paused in thought, "No. I'll be the strongest, in control of absolute power. Maybethatwill get the old man off my back."
"Your father?" Miki questioned.
Haruo growled, "Who else? He still likes to keep me in check. We can't even have a single conversation until he brings up my quirk and how I use it. As if I need him to judge my every move so I don't destroy the entire city." His red eyes slightly glowed as his anger grew. "I don't need a leash!"
Miki remained silent, knowing to bite her tongue. While she felt Haruo was over-exaggerating, she also knew it wasn't completely false. Everything positive she's ever heard about Haruo's father, both from some public knowledge and from Haruo himself was solely about his role as a scientist, never about how he is as a parent. The famous quirk researcher Dr. Serizawa.
She doesn't even need to fully use her own quirk to sense Haruo's honest anger right now, so she tried a small trick she'd often used to help him out in the rare times they'd hang out in middle school.
While Haruo stewed in his anger, he felt a small wave of calmness suddenly came over him as his mind relaxed. Haruo still was thinking about his father, but it isn't driving him crazy like it was just mere seconds before. He was confused for a moment before glancing at the girl next to him, who gave him a small smile but said nothing.
Miki Saegusa! Quirk: Mental Force! Her mind is a powerful tool that allows her to not only affect the minds of others, but even gives her some telekinetic abilities.
Haruo muttered a small, "Thanks." His small sign of gratitude earned him a bright smile from the girl while they both walked in silence.
Eventually, the two stopped in front of a gate surrounding a rather large house, the name "Serizawa" being posted on the front. When Miki began to walk away, Haruo turned to her.
"It was nice seeing you again, Miki...I mean it."
She stopped and turned to look at her friend, seeming shocked for a moment before a wide grin split her face. She gave a peace sign and walked back on her way, Haruo waving a hand as he began to walk into his house.
Before he entered, he took a brief glance at his phone messages, not seeing any new texts or any missed calls from his father. With a click of his tongue, he put in his earbuds and walked in through the door.
Walking through the empty house, he passed an old photo sitting in a frame. It's clearly an old photograph, depicting a much smaller Haruo hugging the leg of a teenage girl with long green hair and yellow eyes. Behind her stood a slightly younger version of Haruo's father Dr. Serizawa, as well as a 20-year-old man with a similar physical appearance to the doctor. Next to Haruo's more timid form was another young child almost identical to him, with the most stand out difference being his bright orange eyes in comparison to Haruo's dark red, as well as stark white hair. There's also a slightly older girl with pale skin, light blue hair and dark blue eyes ruffling the hair of Haruo's lookalike.
Haruo headed deeper inside to a basement level floor, coming to a large white room. There are several damaged punching bags along with holes, scratches and scorch marks around what could've once been a pristine room.
Taking off his jacket and shoes again, Haruo activated his quirk one more time. His height and body increased with his clothes stretching to fit his new appearance, his skin changed into charcoal black scales, fingers and toes sharpened into claws, and finally a long tail emerged with white spikes leading from the tip straight to his neck. From where Haruo stood was now a 10-foot tall reptilian monster.
Haruo Serizawa! Quirk: Toho! This gives him the ability to change into a powerful dinosaur-like monster along with other powerful benefits!
"SKREEONK"
And there we go, the story of Godzillo begins. I can't guarantee how often I'll update, irl stuff gets in the way all the time so it's hard to make plans and stick to them.
But for the sake of upfront clarification, here are the newly included members of Class 1-A:
Haruo Serizawa - Godzilla
Shoichi Cooper - King Kong
Miana Tomoyuki - Mothra
Hidemi Tomoyuki - Battra
Shinjiro Hayata - Ultraman
If this does interest you, I would recommend taking a glance at the original version of this story since I do think there's stuff worth viewing and some of it will still go into this story.
