A/N: Sean and Lorelei's date night ends with a surprise.
The day before Lorelei's OBGYN appointment, she was in the bathroom, getting ready for her date with Sean. He had not long arrived home and was in the guest bathroom also getting ready. Lorelei checked her make-up and hair. Her make up was light, and her hair was clipped back half up, half down, left in its natural waves. She was wearing the necklace Sean had given her for her birthday, as well as a matching set of earrings he had given her for Christmas. The dress she was wearing was one she had bought while out with Rosalee and Juliette. It was a grey maxi dress with a black trim. It hugged her figure, showing off her growing bump. Once she was sure her make-up and hair were perfect, she returned to the bedroom, sitting on the bed to slip on her black heels. They weren't too high as Lorelei didn't want to risk tripping. The growing bump was starting to throw her balance off a little. Once the shoes were on, she stood in front of the full-length mirror, checking her appearance out. Her hands came to rest on her bump, rubbing it gently. Most of her clothes were a lot looser than this. She wasn't ashamed of her baby, but the baggier clothes drew less attention.
She saw Sean appear in the mirror behind her, his hands sliding around her waist, his hands settling on top of her own. "You look beautiful." He said, before brushing her hair off her neck and pressing a kiss on it.
Lorelei smiled, pulling away and turning around to get a better look at him. Damn, that man was handsome. Even though she saw him in a suit every day, something about the one he was wearing…it made her want to shove him on the bed and have her way with him. It was plain black, with a plain back tie and white button up shirt. Lorelei smoothed her hands up his chest before wrapping her arms around his neck. "You're not looking too bad yourself." She told him.
He gave her a smirk, bending slightly to kiss her gently, trying not to smudge her lipstick. "You ready to go?" He asked.
Lorelei nodded. "Yeah. Just let me get my clutch and wrap."
Sean pulled up in front of the La Vue Waterfront Restaurant. He got out of the car, handing the keys to the valet before coming to the passenger side to help Lorelei. Lorelei slid her hand into the crook of his arm, as he escorted her into the building. Lorelei glanced around, feeling a little nervous and out of place. She had never attended a restaurant such as this before. She was in a completely different tax bracket compared to the other patrons. It was a beautiful restaurant, however. Sean led them towards the maître d'.
"Captain Renard. Welcome back." He greeted Sean warmly, shaking Sean's hand before his gaze fell on Lorelei. "And who is stunningly beautiful woman?"
"Hello Gerad. Allow me to introduce my soulmate, Lorelei." Sean introduced.
Lorelei offered her hand to Gerad, who took it gently, pressing a soft kiss to the knuckles. "Enchanté Miss Lorelei. Welcome to La Vue."
Lorelei blushed slightly. "Thank you, Gerad."
Gerad led them through the restaurant to a table with a view overlooking the water. Sean helped Lorelei into her seat before taking his own. Gerad handed them menus, advising them their waiter would be with them shortly, before he left. Lorelei's gaze drifted out the window. The sunset over the water was breathtaking. "This view is beautiful."
"It certainly is." Sean replied. Lorelei looked back to find him gazing tenderly at her. Lorelei smiled shyly, feeling her cheeks warm up as she looked down. Sean reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "I'm glad I finally have the chance to show you off. This night out is long overdue."
Lorelei squeezed his hand before reluctantly pulling away to open the menu. "What do you recommend?" She said, glancing over the top of the menu at him.
Sean smiled at her before opening his own, quickly glancing over it. "For you, I would recommend the Boeuf Bourguignon."
Lorelei hummed in agreement. "That does sound good."
The waiter approached their table, introducing himself before asking for their drink orders. They ordered those, before Sean asked if Lorelei was ready to order their meal. She nodded and they ordered their entrées and mains. Throughout their meal, they discussed many things, as well as making plans for the baby's nursery. After dinner, they returned to the waiting car and made their way to the venue. They parked the car and walked to the short distance. As they entered the venue, Sean slid his arm around Lorelei's waist, pulling her close to him. It was much more intimate than simply being on his arm. Lorelei was aware a number of people were looking at them with interest. "I do not usually attend these events with a date." Sean whispered when he saw Lorelei noticing the looks. Lorelei nodded in understanding. She could imagine how it looked. The police captain, a renowned bachelor showing up to an event with a younger pregnant woman on his arm must have been a sight.
*Sean's POV*
Sean led Lorelei up the stairs towards the box seats he had acquired, keeping her close. Pregnancy had only made her even more beautiful, and he noticed a number of men and women checking her out. He wanted to make it clear that she was very much taken. As they entered the box, Deputy Fire Commissioner, Stephen Wallace stood up and greeted him. "Sean, glad you could make it." Stephen said, shaking Sean's hand. He gestured to his woman with him. "You remember my wife, Penny."
Sean nodded. "Of course, lovely to see you again Mrs Wallace."
Mrs Wallace smiled at him warmly. "You too Captain."
Sean looked down at Lorelei. "This is my soulmate, Lorelei Burkhardt."
"It's lovely to meet you both." Lorelei said, smiling brightly at the both of them.
"You as well dear." Stephen said. "Burkhardt? Sean, don't you have a Burkhardt at your precinct?"
Sean nodded. "That is correct. Detective Nick Burkhardt. He is Lorelei's older brother."
Mrs Wallace laughed. "Oh heavens, I thought having one loved one involved in the emergency services was bad enough, I couldn't imagine having two." She told Lorelei.
Lorelei laughed as well. "I am sure they will be responsible for me going grey prematurely."
"Don't I know it. I was so glad when Stephen was promoted. He's behind a desk nowadays."
"Thankfully Sean is most of the time as well." Lorelei told her. "And might I say, your dress is stunning Mrs Wallace."
"Why thank you dear, but please, call me Penny. Now, don't tell anyone but I got it on sale at Nordstrom. 50% off."
"We must have gone on the same day."
Mrs Wallace slid her arm into Lorelei's. "Come dear, lets allow the men to talk. We should get you off your feet. Don't worry Captain, I'll take good care of her." Mrs Wallace assured him, seeing Sean's reluctance to let go off Lorelei. However, he conceded, allowing the older woman to steer his soulmate over to their seats. Sean was surprised, but also not surprised, at how easily Lorelei had won over the older woman. Sean had only really seen her interacting with her friends, but the ease at which Lorelei was able to interact with people of all walks of life amazed him. She had a degree of poise and grace that women twice her age could not pull off. Her naturally charismatic personality drew people in, her kindness, intelligence, beauty and respectfulness to all aiding in that. He recalled that even Adalind seemed to have been drawn in. At first, he thought her stating she would choose whatever side Lorelei was on had been some kind of joke, but now he wondered if she had been sincere. Lorelei was a natural born leader, truly a Queen. And Sean was the lucky person who got to spend the rest of his life with her. What had he done to be given such a precious gift.
Stephen clapped him on the back. "It seems congratulations are in order Sean." He said, a genuine smile on his face. "Although I'd wager there will a lot of disappointed women when they hear you are off the market." Sean shrugged. That was their problem. Although he hoped they wouldn't give Lorelei any trouble. "When will Baby Renard be making an appearance?"
"Early November." Sean told him, feeling a smile creep across his face at hearing the words Baby Renard. He still couldn't believe it sometimes. They were over halfway there.
"I look forward to meeting the little tyke." Stephen said, as the lights started dipping low, an indication the performance was about to start. "Welp, we better take our seats."
Sean took his seat beside Lorelei, who turned her attention away from Mrs Wallace, her face lighting up as she looked at him. He took her hand in his, pressing a slow kiss to her knuckles, before lifting the arm rest up. Lorelei snuggled closer to him as he wrapped one arm around her shoulders while the other came to rest on her stomach.
Sean couldn't recall much about the performance. His gaze had kept drifting to Lorelei, watching her reactions to the performance. Occasionally she would look up at him, with that beautiful smile as she lifted his hand off her belly to kiss it before resting it back on her belly. The hand on her stomach was almost continually rubbing it, as though trying to persuade his daughter to kick hard enough so that he could feel her. His other hand resting on her shoulder, alternating between rubbing her shoulder and playing with her hair.
When they had arrived home, Lorelei had pulled him to the living room and turned on some music, asking him without words to dance with her. And he had, holding her close, breathing in her scent as they slow danced in their living room. Lorelei pulled away slightly, her hand coming to rest on his cheek, her blue eyes staring into his. He almost lost his breath, seeing the love in them. "I love you, Sean Renard. So, so much." She said, her voice catching a little. "I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together."
Sean smiled down at her. "I love you, Lorelei Burkhardt. More than you'll ever know." He took a deep breath, stepping back slightly as his hand slid into the inner pocket of his suit jacket to retrieve the item, he had place in there earlier in the evening. He knelt down in front of her, seeing a look of surprise cross her face as she saw the open box in his hand. "Lorelei, will you marry me?"
The smile on her face was wider than he had seen before. She glanced briefly at the ring before returning her gaze to his face. He could see tears in her eyes. Lorelei nodded. "Yes. Yes." She said, throwing her arms around his neck, kissing him deeply. Sean wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her tightly as he returned the kiss. God, he felt such relief. He hadn't allowed himself to think about it, afraid his nerves would shine through, and Lorelei would pick up on it. But she'd said yes.
They pulled apart, smiling at each other like idiots. "Do you want to see the ring?" He asked her.
Lorelei laughed. "Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that." Sean laughed as well, removing the ring from the box which was placed on the table beside them. Lorelei held out her left hand and Sean carefully slid it onto her ring finger, with the heart facing outwards. The ring was a white gold claddagh ring with a sapphire set as the heart and diamonds across the band. Lorelei admired it for moment before returning her gaze it him as he stood up, his hand still clasped in hers. "It's beautiful Sean. I love it." She said softly, traces of tears of happiness in her eyes and the beautiful smile still lighting up her face. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her lips to his for a moment. "Fais-moi l'amour, mon fiancé bien-aimé." She whispered.
Sean swept her into his arms, carrying her bridal style to their bedroom, kicking the door closed behind him as he carried her into the bedroom.
A/N: You know, I didn't really intend on having an engagement so soon. But I started writing and thought it might make a nice addition. What do you think?
