Chapter 8

Her heart fluttered in her chest as she stood there, in front of almost all of Asgard, next to her stood Thor. In front of them stood the All Father, as intimidating as ever as he read over a script that had been passed down from generation to generation. Asgardian weddings were so similar in some ways to Midgard ones yet so very different. They had many more traditions and were more flashy and long.

She felt so out of place, yet as she stood next to Thor, his larger body towering over her own small frame, she felt safe. Protected. Something she hadn't truly felt since being with Inuyasha.

She tried to steel her heart and thoughts, she could not feel this, should not even bring Inuyasha into the equation, what if by doing so she projected the feelings she once had for her first love onto Thor? As soon as the thought occurred to her it was gone, she was not desperate or disillusioned enough to let that happen. She knew first hand the pain of having one's love for another projected onto you because of similarities, she would never do that to anyone, let alone someone she cared about.

She pondered that last thought, when had she grown to care so much for the man standing next to her? Sure, she viewed him as a friend and treated him as such yet when did he worm his way so deeply into her heart!

Was it the way he smiled at her? Called her his lady, as he-

Yet before she could ponder the feelings any further Thor took her small hand in his slightly larger and rougher one and turned to her. His blue eyes gazing into hers. "I hereby take you as my wife. To Stand by me in times of joy and woe. And vow to be your companion in this life and the next. Until the flow of time ends and we all perish, my loyalty will belong to you and you alone. As will my heart, body, and soul."

While she knew he was merely playing his part it could not be helped the way her heart skipped a beat at his words, they filled her with a warmth she had not known she was missing. With a watery smile she recited the words and phrases drilled into her by royal tutors. Placing a hand over his heart, and he hers, she lifted her head and let her lips meet his.

They were now man and wife.

All around them she could hear cheering and laughter yet it was nothing compared to the blood rushing in her ears and the rapid beating of her heart.

It was in that one chastise kiss that she knew she was gone, she had fallen for the man she would now call her husband.

Until death did they part.
