Lee and Francine landed at Camp Raccoon about 30 minutes later, and it looked like the Agency was taking two men into custody and loading them on a helicopter. Lee noticed there was also a medevac helicopter. Billy walked over to Francine and him. "It was the Evanoff brothers, Lee. We have them in custody. We are searching the camp now for Phillip and Amanda. We checked the main office and the medical cabins. They were not in there. We have men searching all the cabins now." Lee looked at them. "No if they are hiding. They wouldn't be in the main office or the medical cabin. That would be too obvious. The sports equipment cabin. That is where they store all the equipment but there is an office in back for the coach. It just looks like its storage. There would be a radio in there and it would not be too obvious. I was here over the summer for Parent's weekend. It was Jamie's last year of being a Junior Trailblazer. Amanda gave me a tour. If Amanda was going to hide. That is where she would go."
He was not going to tell them that he knew that because Amanda had chosen the sports equipment as a place to hide where they could get some alone time while they were waiting for the next Parent weekend event to start.
Lee took off running to the sports equipment cabin.
The door to the cabin was locked. Lee broke down the front door with his shoulder. He burst in and saw all the equipment. Then he saw the coach's office. He heard a baby crying but then it stopped quickly. Was that his child? He was right. They were in there. He went to the door of the coach's office. He started trying to break it down. He was yelling "Phillip! Amanda! It's me. Let me in." Then he heard Phillip say. "Lee?" "Yes, it's me, the doorway's blocked. Let me in." Phillip started moving the desk he had moved to block the doorway, and Lee came rushing into the room.
There was a cut with dried blood and a big bump on Phillip's forehead. He looked at Phillip and reached over and put his hand on Phillip's shoulder, "Are you alright Chief?" Phillip nodded. "Yeah, and I have never been so happy to see anyone in my life. It was the Russians, Lee. They ran mom and I off the road. They wanted to kidnap us. Well, they wanted to kidnap mom anyway. They were arguing over whether to kill me or not. I am so glad you are here." Phillip hugged Lee hard.
Lee then heard the baby cry again. "Where's your mom?" He heard Amanda's voice. "I am over here Lee. In the middle of all the junk. Phillip built a fort around us. Come over here. Meet your son." Lee looked at Phillip. "Go outside. It's safe out there now. The Agency has the Russians in custody Look for Francine or Billy. Tell them to send the medics in here. And get yourself checked out while you are at it. That is a nasty bump." Phillip nodded and ran out of the cabin.
Lee went over to his wife. And started moving all the junk surrounding her to get to her. She was holding a baby who was wrapped in a Junior Trailblazers t-shirt. He went over to her and kissed her. "Are you all right? Is that our baby? Is the baby, ok?" She nodded. "He seems fine. More than fine actually. He's wonderful. Meet your son." Lee smiled. "It's a boy?" She nodded. "Yes. And he's impatient just like his daddy. He did not want to stay put." He kissed her again. "That is more like you than me. You are the one that never stays in the car." Lee turned his attention to his son.
He was very tiny and still covered in birthing fluids, but he was the most beautiful baby Lee had ever seen. Alex had dark eyes and a tiny bit of dark hair that was starting to grow. Lee kissed the top of his son's head. "Hi Alex. I'm your dad." He felt a connection to this child unlike anything he had ever felt in his life. He just grinned happily at his wife who was grinning back at him and then he kissed her again. "Wow. He is so tiny. He looks like you. He's got your nose. We never do these things the easy way do we?"
The paramedics interrupted them by racing into the office. They put Amanda on a stretcher, and she held their son in her arms. The umbilical cord had not been cut yet. Lee never stopped holding Amanda's hand as they walked to the medevac chopper. He saw Billy standing with the paramedics. "I'm going on the medevac chopper with my wife and son. Don't try and stop me." Lee told Billy. Billy smiled at him. "Of course you are. Why would we stop you? So it's a boy, Scarecrow?" Lee smiled at Billy. "Yeah I'm a father Billy. Alexander Matthew Stetson is the name we picked." Billy smiled at him. "Congratulations Scarecrow and Amanda."
Amanda spoke. "Billy, My son Phillip, where is he?" Billy answered, "The other helicopter. They are taking him to Parker as well. Francine and one of the paramedics went with him. They wanted to save the medevac chopper for you and the baby. Are you hurt Amanda?" She nodded. "Not really. I mean I just had a baby but I think I am all right other than that." Billy smiled at them. "I will come by the hospital later to see how you are all doing."
They loaded Amanda and Alex into the helicopter. Amanda gripped Lee's hand more tightly. He brought her hand to his lips. "I will check on Phillip when we get there. I promise." Amanda looked at him. "Phillip saved our lives. He was so brave. If he had not done what he did so we could get away. Gosh, I don't even want to think what would have happened."
The medevac chopper landed at the hospital, and Lee held his wife's hand while they took her out on the stretcher. "Agent Stetson, you are going to need to let go of her hand. There is a waiting area. We will get you once we have moved her to a room." Lee nodded. "You take good care of them, ok?" The paramedic nodded. "We will. You will be able to see them both again very soon."
Lee walked over to the waiting area and saw Francine. She came over to Lee and hugged him, "Is everything all right with Amanda and the baby?" Lee nodded. "I think so. He is tiny, but he looked healthy." Francine smiled. "He? It's a boy?"
Lee smiled a little. "Yeah, I have a son. Alexander Matthew Stetson. Five years ago, would you ever have thought that was possible?" Francine smiled, "Well yes. You did have four black books remember? I'm sure it is only a matter of time before some more little scarecrows show up on your doorstep. But that you are happily married and living in the suburbs. Never in a million years" He smiled a little, but he was also very worried about his family "Very funny. How's Phillip?"
Francine smiled. "They are examining him now. Giving him a cat scan. Seeing if he has a concussion. I asked them to put him in the same room as Amanda." Lee smiled. "Good thinking. I need to call Joe. Let him know what happened. See if he can keep Jamie for a couple extra days."
Lee went over to the pay phones and dialed the number for Joe King. "King residence. This is Carrie." "Hey Carrie, it's Lee is Joe there?" "No, he and Jamie went to the movies. I can give him a message if you would like." "Amanda had the baby. It's a boy. Alexander Matthew Stetson. We are at Parker General."
"Oh wow. Congratulations Lee. Except she was not due until November. Are she and the baby all right?" He sighed "I think so. They are checking her and the baby over right now. There is something else, Phillip is in the hospital too. There was a car accident. He hit his head on the steering wheel. "
Carrie groaned. "Well, Amanda should not have let Phillip drive. She is seven months pregnant. That boy probably drives like a maniac." Lee was getting annoyed. He wanted to just give Carrie a piece of his mind. He knew it was not the time or place. For now, he just wanted to stop talking to her. "It was not Phillip's fault. He is a great driver. Look can you just give Joe the message? Tell them to come to the hospital when they get back. Bye Carrie."
"Yes, I will give them the message. Bye Lee."
He went back over and sat next to Francine. He groaned as he sat down "Phillip is so right about his stepmother. She is a cold-hearted witch. Did not even ask if he was all right. Just assumed this was all his fault." Francine scoffed. "Wow. He saved their lives Lee. He is a hero. He was telling me what happened. What he did was so brave. He would make a great agent one day."
Just then a nurse came over. "Mr. Stetson you can see your stepson now if you would like. We have set him up in a room. Once they are done examining Mrs. Stetson, they will set her up in the same room."
