Lee and Francine followed the nurse to the room. Phillip had a little white bandage where the cut was. Lee went over to him and put his hand on his shoulder. "How are you doing Chief?" Phillip smiled at him. "I'm fine, Lee. Or I will be it is just a little concussion. Mom and Alex? Have they told you anything yet?" Lee nodded no. Then Francine said, "I am going to go for now. I want to check in with the Agency. I will come back later with coffee. I want to meet my new little nephew. "

Lee smiled at her. "Nephew? I like it. Every kid does need a cool aunt. I'm glad my kid is going to have the coolest one. Seriously thank you for everything. Keeping an eye on this one for us. And for blowing the whole Bocelli Group operation. You were right. I really don't care about that anymore. I would have been madder if you had not come and gotten me. You really are a great friend."

Lee went over and hugged Francine. "No problem. See you both in a little bit."

"So, what happened out there Chief?" Phillip answered. "Well mom let me stay home from Dad & Carrie's because you know much I hate going over there lately. Carrie & I just fight all the time. I try to be good when I am over there. But she is just so stuck up and uptight. It is really hard. You know I have no filter. Like even Jamie isn't good enough for her and it's freaking Jamie. The most goody two shoes kid on the planet."

Lee laughed. "I don't know Jamie does have a smart mouth on him just like you do. He's quieter than you but it comes out." Phillip laughed. "Yeah but if you get Jamie's smart mouth or he starts making fun of you. It just means he likes you. Jamie really likes you now, Lee." Lee laughed.

"Stop interrupting me or my story will never end. Anyway, Mom was going to be all by herself at the house this weekend. I don't think she really wanted to be alone. She told dad I wasn't feeling well. The day started off really nice. It was just Mom & I and we were joking and having fun. She took me driving since my driver's test is coming up next week. Then we were going to go to Goofy Golf after. It was a really great day until mom noticed a car following us. She told me to speed up. So, I did. Then she told me to head for Fairfax County. She was hoping there would be some cops around. I did speed up but then the guys following us started shooting at us. They shot out one of the tires and we veered off into a ditch. I think I totaled the Wagoneer, Lee. I am so sorry."

Lee put his hand on Phillip's shoulder. "Oh my god, Chief. I do not care about that. Even if you had taken Vetty and you totaled her. You and your mom are more important. You can't love a car."

Phillip looked at him. "I kind of actually love Vetty. Don't joke about her getting totaled." Lee laughed.

Then Phillip said. "Let me continue the story. I think I blacked out for a second. I opened my eyes, and I heard a man with a Russian accent yelling at my mom to get out of the car. Mom was very calm, and I could tell she was thinking of a plan to get us out of it. Then they said for me to get out of the car. They were debating on whether to just kill me or keep me around until she had the baby as a way to control mom. Then mom said something, I can't quite remember what and the jerk slapped her with the back of his hand.

I got so mad when he did that. I just tackled him. I didn't care if they hurt me. I just wanted mom to get away. I yelled for her to run. The Russians had not expected me to fight back, they thought I was just a dumb kid, and I got the Russian dude's gun away from him. I held it on them, and I ran after mom. We ran into the woods.

At least we were on the outskirts of the woods surrounding Camp Raccoon. Mom & I know those woods really well. The only problem was that Camp Raccoon was about 6 miles away. And mom was pregnant. She was doing ok at first but then I noticed her grimace. She kept telling Alex to stay in there. Her labor pains had started. We hiked for a long time until mom couldn't walk anymore. I piggy-backed her the last couple of miles of the hike to the camp.

We got to the camp, and I started heading to the medical cabin. But mom told me no. Go to the sports equipment cabin. People who haven't been to the camp would not think there was an office in there. We got into the cabin. I grabbed some wrestling matts, and made a makeshift bed for mom. But then her water broke.

I tried the phone, but it was dead because its September. Camp Raccoon is closed for the season. There was no power or phone lines. There was a radio though. I radioed for help. I said exactly what mom told me to except I added the part about the baby eagle and the vultures. I had no idea if anyone heard me. There wasn't much battery power left in the radio.

Then mom's labor pains started coming faster. I was going to go to the medical cabin and get some supplies. But I saw flashlights in the camp. The Russians were there searching the camp for us. There was a box of Junior Trailblazers T-shirts and some towels. I grabbed those.
Then I pushed the desk up against the door of the office. I helped mom with her pants. I am going to need so much therapy for that.

I could see the baby's head. I have never been so scared in all my life. Mom just told me what to do. It was crazy Lee. I mean I should have been the one talking her through what to do. She kept telling me all I had to do was help guide him out and catch. I did and I wiped the guck out of his mouth and wrapped him in a t-shirt. I think all that took a lot longer than it felt like because it was morning again when Alex finally came out. Mom & I could hear the helicopters, shouting and gunfire outside."

I started building a fort around mom and Alex. I figured I wouldn't make it easy for the Russians to get her. Then I heard someone break the door down. Alex started crying but mom stuck her finger in his mouth and he stopped. I got so scared. I grabbed a baseball bat. But it was just you. Seriously I have never been so happy to see anyone in my life."

Lee could not believe the story Phillip had just told him. He walked over to Phillip and just hugged him. "Thank you. You are amazing Chief. What you did? That was incredible. I can never repay you for saving them." Lee reached into his jacket pocket and took out his car keys and threw the keys on the hospital bed. "She's yours." Phillip looked at him confused. "What?" "Vetty, she is yours. I can't put a car seat in her anyway." Phillip looked at him. "Lee, I just wanted to take her to the prom this year. I can't accept that. Mom is not going to let me accept that."

Just then they wheeled Amanda into the room. The nurses helped her into the other bed. The nurses left. Lee walked over to his wife and kissed her. "Are you all right?" She smiled. "Yes, I am going to be fine. They want to keep me a couple of extra days because well between the six mile hike and the car accident. It may take my insides a little longer to heal. But I should be fine in a few days. They are still running tests on Alex. So far, he has been passing them all with flying colors. Phillip sweetheart, are you ok? How is your head? What did they say?"

Phillip spoke. "I've got a concussion, and they want to keep me for observation overnight." She looked concerned. "Oh sweetheart. Well, I'm sure grandma will come back from her trip as soon as she hears. Hopefully, it will be tomorrow, so you don't have to have Carrie take care of you. Now when I came in, I heard you say mom is not going to let me accept that. What won't I let you accept?"

Phillip looked at her. "Lee wants to give me Vetty. Because of what happened. I just want to take her to the prom, mom. I won't accept it."

His mother smiled. "Well sweetheart, you know you should take an actual girl to the prom too. But it's Lee's car if he wants to give Vetty to you. I am not going to stop him. He was going to have to get a new one anyway. We can't put a car seat in the corvette. Lee, I am going to need a new car too. My car is a goner." He nodded. "Consider it done. You want another Wagoneer, right?" She smiled and pulled him over for a lingering kiss. "Yes. I have to say it is nice having my own personal sugar daddy."

Phillip groaned. "Oh gross. Please remember I am in the room too before this conversation goes any further. Also seriously I can have Vetty for real, mom?"

His mom smiled. "Sweetheart, everything you just did. You saved your new little brother's life and probably my life too. I am so proud of you. You were so brave"

Phillip's face got red. "Aww thanks mom. I was so scared the whole time. I really wasn't that brave and you should not have had to be calming me down and telling me what to do when you were in labor. It should have been the other way around."

Amanda looked at her son. "Sweetheart you were wonderful. Take the compliment and the corvette. But you can't officially have her until your driver's test. Oh sweetheart, with your concussion we may have to delay it. I am so sorry."

Phillip looked at her. "It's ok, mom. I don't care. Vetty is going to be mine. I will be good to her. I promise Lee."

Lee smiled at him. "Oh I know you will, Chief."

Phillip totally deserved to get Vetty for all that.

I know in the beginning I said that this story would only be 3-4 chapters. I lied it is more likely going to be 6-8 chapters the way I have been cutting it.
