Part Two
Maya rushed back to the hospital a few hours later when Miranda called her and told her that Carina was awake and was asking for her.
Maya walked through the halls and up to Carina's room and she nearly broke down in tears knowing that her wife was safe and was going to get through this. When Maya got to Carina's room she saw her sitting up on the bed, eyes closed with some toast and juice placed in front of her, seemingly untouched and she frowned.
"Carina," Maya softly called and watched Carina's tired eyes meet hers. "I know you probably have no appetite right now, but you still need to eat babe," Maya said, hoping her wife wouldn't fight her on this and was relived when Carina nodded, took a slow sip of the orange juice and then picked up her toast while Maya pulled up a chair beside her bed. "How do you feel, Car?"
Carina finished the last of her toast and sighed. "Sore," Carina answered shortly.
Maya nodded and gently took one of Carina's hands. "Do you remember what happened, Carina?"
Carina nodded and was about to speak when there was a knock on the door and Meredith came into the room, a grim expression on her face. For a couple of seconds, Maya was confused since Miranda was Carina's doctor but then her mind flashed to Andy and her heart sped up.
"Is she okay?" Maya asked, standing up, and facing Meredith.
"Who?" Carina asked, furrowed eyebrows. "did someone else get hurt?"
Meredith nodded her head but looked at Maya and shook her head. "Jo did, Carina," Meredith told her. "She's okay, she's just resting in the room next door. She has a broken leg, and she also hit her head." Meredith looked at Maya and the slight smile on her face disappeared. She looked briefly at Carina and back to Maya and when Maya nodded she spoke. "Andy is in bad shape, Maya," Meredith told her and wasn't surprised when Carina snapped her head up.
"Wait what happened to Andy?" Carina asked, looking from Meredith to Maya.
Maya sighed and looked down while Meredith looked on, waiting for Maya to explain since she too, wanted to know what led to Andy being in such bad shape.
"We were on a call in the cascades rescuing two vloggers who had fallen down a cave when dispatch had called for more aid cars and announced that doctors were hit by a car outside the reproductive rights clinic. I panicked and Andy wasn't able to hold my weight since I was moving a lot and she fell over the cliff and got severely injured," Maya explained, looking down.
"Is she going to be okay, Grey?" Carina asked, concerned for her wife's best friend.
Meredith nodded. "She has a major concussion and a massive cut on her leg, and it's broken but, yes, she should be okay. We just don't have a timeline on when she'll wake up." Meredith told the couple.
"Is anyone with her?" Maya asked, not wanting her to be alone but wanting to stay alongside her wife.
"Hughes and her cousin are with her right now. Amelia's her doctor and is checking on her every hour. We just want to make sure she's doing okay," Meredith told them.
Maya nodded and sat back down on the chair by her wife's side.
"I'll be back in an hour or two to check in again," Meredith let them know. After the couple nodded she turned to leave the room and closed the door behind her.
Maya turned back to Carina and gently cupped her cheek, running a finger over it.
"God, I was so scared, Carina. I'm so glad you're okay," Maya told her, relieved that Carina was awake and okay right now.
"I'm okay, Bella. I'm sore as heck but I'm going to be fine." Carina tried to reassure as she reached out to hold Maya's hand. "I'm not planning on going anywhere."
Honestly not my best writing but I wanted to get this final part out.
