Ash pushed the doors open and was greeted by a dark room. "who goes there!" shouted someone in the room. drax thought the voice sounded a bit too young. "im ash ketchum from pallet town! and ive come to challenge you for the gym badge!" ash proclaimed. the lights suddenly turned on. revealing a boy at the other end of a gym battle field. "i accept your challenge! however, no that this will not be easy." the gym leader said. "i am brock. the leader of this gym. i use rock types, so i hope you came prepared."ash pulled out a pokeball. "ive been training for this!" he said. "im more then prepared!" another boy came out to the field. "this battle will be a two on two. the battle will be over when all of either trainers pokemon are unable to battle. only the challenger may substitute pokemon!" brock nodded and sent out his first pokemon. "geodude, lets go!" geodude landed on the field and got into a boxers stance. ash sent out his owb pokemon revealing a butterfree. they had dome some extra training before the gym and it was enough for caterpie to fully evolve himself. brock raised an eyebrow at ash's choice. "you do know bug types have a big disadvantage against rock types right?" he asked ash. ash simply smirked. "we'll see who's at a disadvantage when im done wiping the floor with you." he said. "your funeral." said brock. "geodude use rock throw!" brock shouted. "dodge and use dark pulse!" shouted ash. "butterfree dodged and then shot a blast of dark energy at geodude. geodude and brock were caught off guard by this as butterfree cant learn dark pulse. geodude pulled himself together too late as the dark pulse hit its mark. knocking out geodude in one shot. was stunned. "butterfree arent supposed to be able to learn that." brock said. "unless its a delta species." said drax grabbing brock's attention. "delta species?" asked brock. "pokemon that are the wrong type." drax said pointing a thumb at snorunt who was currently on his shoulder. "never heard of that before." said brock. he returned geodude and sent out his next pokemon. "onix, your up!" the large pokemon landed on the field causing the earth to shake. to drax's left he caught movement as a bunch of kids started making their way into the stands. "they must be family members of brock's." he thought, noticing the similar features on some of them.
"all right get ready!" said ash. "it wont be so easy this time." said brock. "onix, use tackle!" ash smirked. "shadow claw!" he shouted. onix was too close but to everyone aside from ash and drax's shock, onix passed through butterfree as though he wasnt there. "so its a ghost type then?" said brock as onix was hit by the shadow claw. "onix get up and use smac down!" onix did so and butterfree was too close to dodge. butterfree took the hit and was slammed into the ground. he wasnt knocked off his feet though and was tanking the hit. he the glowed red as he was replaced by hisuian zorua. everyone but ash and drax looked at the new pokemon in confusion. "the jig is up zorua!" shouted ash. "use bitter malice!" zorua's eyes glowed red and he lashed out at onix. slashing clawing and biting until onix was to injured to move. zorua finished with a hard slam from his tail sending onix to the ground. as the dust cleared onix was revealed to be out cold. "all right zorua!" shouted ash. zorua stood poud at his achievement. "well, i didnt expect that. a zorua in kanto of all places." said brock. "he's also not a delta species." said drax. "hes from sinnoh." drax decided to call it sinnoh to not confuse the present day locals. if his theory was right then ash's zorua was from the past. "i didnt know sinnoh had any regional variant pokemon." said brock. "we just found out ourselves. though we have no idea what he was doing in kanto." drax lied. "well in any case, congradulations ash. youve earned this." said brock, handing ash his badge. ash took it with a smile on his face. "alright i got the boulder badge!" ash exclaimed holding it up.
"good luck on your journey. though with how easily you spanked me you might not need it. said brock. "you should go on a journey too brock." said a new voice. everyone turned to see the rock selling guy from before. "dad?" said brock. "wait wait wait." said drax. "your kid is the gym leader and your selling rocks?" brock shook his head. "my dad hasnt been around for years." he said. "and i shouldve come back sooner." flint said. "you've had to do my job while i was away. all because i was too afraid to come home a failior." drax put a hand on ash's shoulder. "perhaps we should go. this is a family matter that we should let them talk out." he said. ash nodded as they went to the pokemon center.
drax and ash were halfway to the pokemon center when the redhead spoke up. "so whats next." she asked. "oh, i forgot you were still here." said drax. "what's your name anyway?" the girl got a tick mark on hwr head. "you dont know my name?! ive been traveling with you for 2 days now!" she shouted. "you never told us." said pikachu. "you kind of just startrd following us and didnt introduce yourself." said ash. the girl turned red at this realizing she actually never did. "sorry, my name's misty." she said. "better." said drax. "now if you had introduced yourself beforehand, we might have gotten along better at the start." misty rubbed her shoulder wth embarassment. "hey guys!" shouted a voice. the three turned to see brock running up to them. "everything go okay?" asked drax. "yeah, my dad's taking over the gym from here on. he told me to go persue my dream. i was actually wondering if i could join you guys." brock asked. "sure. the more the merrier." drax said. "plus someone needs to kerp this trouble maker in line." ash looked affronted at that. "hey im not that bad!" he protested. "you almost got us attacked by spearow." drax said. brock and misty chuckled at the two. this journey was going to be interesting.
