Josie got super serious all of a sudden. "Gabriel, listen to me and do as I say." Gabriel simply nodded his head. "What's going on, Mom? Is our island being attacked by pirates?" Josie continued, looking at Gabriel with a grin on her face before she responded, "I don't know yet. Hide. Don't come out until I get you. You hear me?" 'This must be serious. She's never been this serious before.'
Josie left the room; that would be the last time Gabriel would see her alive.

Josie died attempting to protect the island from pirates. She was a former pirate herself, but Gabriel didn't find out until after her death. Marines later came to stop the pirates, but by then, the damage had already been done, and Gabriel was left as an orphan. On that day, after seeing the marines take care of the pirates who killed his mother, Gabriel vowed one thing: "I will join the navy and eliminate all evil pirates." The scene transitions to a room with two people in it. One is Gabriel himself, grown up quite a bit now, standing at a whopping 10'5, wearing a normal navy uniform, and now at the rank of Captain in the navy. He was glaring at a man he called a mentor or even a friend. It was a very laid-back man wearing shades and a yellow striped suit. This man was Kizaru.
When the marines came to save the island from the pirates, Kizaru驼峰, who was a vice admiral at the time, was there. He was the one who found Gabriel, and even though he had just met the kid, he took a liking to him.

Gabriel, who was raising himself with help from other villagers, and Kizaru, who would visit from time to time, until he became an admiral. When Gabriel turned 15, he finally joined the marines. Kizaru immediately wanted him to join him on all of his missions, and that he did. Kizaru took Gabriel to Egghead from time to time, even to get acquainted with his other friends, Vegapunk and Sentomaru, and through the 3 years leading up to this moment, they all became quite close.

"Who are we supposed to be going after again?" Kizaru asked his subordinates. "You're supposed to know this. You're actually supposed to tell us who we are going after," Gabriel jokingly said. "We are going to saboady the supernova Straw Hat Luffy hit a Celistial Dragon. This isnt a time to joke around"Sentomaru said seriously
"Lighten up, Sento. We can handle this, but I understand this Luffy guy is crazy... hitting one of those guys, he must have a death wish," Gabriel sighed. He didn't really like the celestial dragons, but even he wouldn't do something like that. Sentomaru alerted everyone, "We're almost there. Everyone, get ready." Kizaru then had them fire the cannons and rode one to the island. While Gabriel jumped to the island, landing a ways away from Kizaru.
When Gabriel landed, he was right in the middle of a group of pirates who looked at him with surprise. "What's a marine doing here now!" a large man carrying a sword just as large on his back said. "We won't let you catch us alive. ATTACK HIM!" the one he assumed was the captain said. Gabriel got into a combat stance similar to Muay Thai, and when the first pirate swung his sword, Gabriel blocked it easily with an armament haki-coated arm. The captain then delivered two punches to the stomach, which made the man cough blood, and a kick to the head of the pirate sent him flying. The second pirate tried to get a sneak attack in, but using observation haki, Gabriel dodged it easily, grabbed the pirate by the head, kneed him twice in the face, and threw him to the ground. But he wasn't done; he attempted to stand back up, but seeming bloodthirsty with a wild look in his eye, the captain jumped in the air and started spinning down towards the pirate.

The impact caused a dust cloud and made the ground beneath the pirate. As the other marines caught up, they sweatdropped. "Captain, don't you think you went overboard?" "Nope!" Gabriel said with a big smile on his face. The marines facefaulted. "Captain Gabriel sure doesn't know how to hold back, but at least he's on our side." All the marines present agreed with this. Clearly, Gabriel was on a different level. At only the age of 20, he was stronger than most in the navy, besides most vice admirals and obviously the admirals and above. Even then, the gap between him and the vice admirals wasn't that big. With his potential, within the next couple of years, he could easily catch up. "You guys need to keep up," the Captain said with a smile. He then jumped away again. "How are we supposed to do that when you're moving like that, captain!!!!" All the marines said in unison.
Gabriel lands next to AdmiralKizaru. "Done having fun already?" Kizaru lazily said. He was surprised as Gabriel usually left no pirates behind when capturing them. He must be interested in this Luffy character, he thought. All of this, but still held an indifferent look on his face. "I wanna see what this Luffy kid is about. He has D. in his name like me, and he's Garp-sans grandson. He might be interesting," the Captain thought to himself.
He then activates his Armament Haki and launches toward the Straw Hat captain.
