Angela arrived home and hung her coat and purse on the coat rack. She crossed over to the couch and sat down and laid her head back and sighed. She couldn't believe how much things had changed in the last few hours. She wasn't sure what she should do. Normally, she would talk things over with Tony but considering the circumstances it didn't seem like it would be a good idea. So she would have to figure out this problem for herself.
So what should she do? Should she marry Andy? She did like him and enjoyed spending time with him but was that enough to marry him? Didn't he deserve to marry a woman who loved him? Tony had said you don't think these things you feel them. Maybe he was right but the truth was she was a thinker. She wasn't the type of person who could make a decision this big without weighing the pros and cons first. She got up off the couch and walked over to the desk and got out a pad of paper and a pen. She walked back over to the couch and sat back down. She needed to list the pros and cons of marrying Andy.
Pros: He treated her well
He loved her
He had a good job
He was a good cook
Cons: He wasn't Tony
She wasn't in love with him.
She looked at her list. The odd thing was the pros outnumbered the cons but the cons were more serious. She threw the pad on the coffee table and sighed. This was getting her nowhere. She needed to talk to someone.
"Hello Dear. I see you're back from your date with Dr Dork." Mona came in from the kitchen with a bowl of ice cream. She sat down on the couch.
Angela looked over at her and rolled her eyes. "It's Andy Mother. And you know most Mothers would be thrilled if their daughter was dating a Doctor."
"Well I'm not most Mothers."
"Isn't that the truth." She looked over at her. "Is that my butter brickle you're eating?"
"Of course." Mona took a big bite. "Tell Tony he'll have to buy more."
"No problem. Anything for you."
"Thank you. So how was your date?"
"Well I guess I better tell you. Andy proposed tonight."
Mona dropped her spoon into her bowl in shock. "He did what?!"
"He proposed."
Mona put her bowl on the coffee table and grabbed Angela's left hand. Seeing that she wasn't wearing a ring she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh thank goodness you said no"
"I didn't say no."
"You must have. You're not wearing a ring."
"I told him I would think about it."
"What's there to think about?
"Well I don't want to be alone the rest of my life and I do like Andy…"
"What about Tony?"
"What about him? He's with Kathleen now."
"For now. He'll come around sooner or later."
"So what am I supposed to do? Wait around hoping that sooner or later he decides he doesn't want to be with Kathleen? That he really wants to be with me?"
"Well it's better than marrying Andy."
"So you would rather have me be all alone than married to a man who loves me?"
"Angela, do you love him?"
"Well no. But I do care about him."
"And you love Tony. That's the bottom line."
"That doesn't matter. He's with Kathleen. Whatever I feel for Tony is irrelevant."
"Angela you're talking crazy! Your feelings for Tony aren't irrelevant."
"Well they have to be. That's the only way I've been able to get through the last few months. Besides Tony has met her Father and helped her redecorate her apartment. Does that sound like he is planning on ending things with her?"
"Well okay maybe not now. But he'll come to his senses."
"Well I can't wait forever."
"So what if you marry Andy and then Tony breaks up with Kathleen? What then?"
"I guess I'll be married to Andy."
"Oh yeah. You'll be married to one guy and in love with another. That's a great idea!" Mona rolled her eyes.
"Look Mother, I know you don't like Andy all that much. But.."
Mona interrupted her. "It doesn' matter whether or not I like him. What matters is that you don't make the mistake of marrying him. And okay ask yourself this; Is it fair to marry him when you don't love him?"
Angela shook her head. "No it isn't but I'm just…. I'm tired of waiting around for Tony and I don't want to be alone."
Mona rubbed her eyes in frustration.
The front door opened and they both looked over and saw Tony walking in. He hung his coat on the coat rack.
"Hello Ladies."
"Hi Tony." Angela returned.
"You might as well tell him Angela."
"Tell me what?" Tony sat down on the chair closest to the front door. "Is something wrong?"
"No, not exactly. Ummm Andy proposed tonight."
Tony felt a jolt go through him. Andy proposed? Angela was going to marry another man? He couldn't believe it!
"Don't worry Tony she didn't say yes." Mona said.
He inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.
"But she didn't say no either." Mona glared at her daughter.
"Really" He cleared his throat. "So why didn't you say yes?"
"I have to think about is a big decision."
"That's true."
Angela stood up. "Well I'm going to bed now. Good night." She walked over to the steps and ascended the stairs.
Mona picked up one of the pillows and whacked Tony on the head.
"Ow!" He rubbed his head. 'What was that for?"
"Are you going to let her marry him?!"
"What do you mean let her? I don't own her."
"So you're telling me you'd be okay with her marrying Andy? With him moving in here?"
'Well I admit it would be an adjustment."
"It would be more than an adjustment. It will completely change things around here. Unless you do something to stop her. "
"Mona, there's nothing I can do. I'm with Kathleen,"
Mona stood up. "I swear the two of you are the most stubborn people. Maybe someday one of you will end this stupidity." She picked up her bowl and went into the kitchen.
Tony leaned his head back. He couldn't believe that Angela might marry Andy. Mona was right. It would completely change things. Would he be able to still live here? Would he be able to handle seeing them together? The sad thing was if he hadn't started things with Kathleen she never would have met Andy and he never would have proposed. They wouldn't be in this predicament if he had left the hotel room that night instead of staying and changing their relationship.
What had he done? And what the hell was he going to do now?
