Chapter 13
As I walked into the dining room, I took my place at the head of the table. I watched everyone slowly trickle in. I looked around the room noticing that Dean still hadn't showed up yet. I started to wonder if I had made a mistake and let myself get too close to him, when a chill shot up my spine. I looked up through my lashes and saw that Dean had sauntered in and sat beside his brother. Why did I let that bug me so much? I shook my head and waited. As soon as everyone made it in, I started my speech.
" Good morning.. I just wanted to bring everyone up to date on the attacks. From what the hunters told me, it seems like there is a new species of vampyers. We are going to have to go down ourselves and investigate. Now that means trusting these two hunters and using their knowledge to find them. Pam, Eric, Damon and Elena. You guys are going to run down there and do some spying." I said turning to Stefan, " You, Sookie and Bill are going to drive down with me, Bianca and the brothers."
"Alright.. Who is driving with who?" Stefan asked.
"In your vehicle it's going to be You, Bill and Sookie. Bianca, Sam will be in her car. As for me, I'll be with my dogs and Dean.. if he wants to ride with me or his brother."
"Dean.. I think you should go with Nikky." SAm said, smiling at Bianca.
"Alright. SO that settles that.. We will all meet in Salt Lake City, Utah. As for crossing the border, I got that covered." I clapped my hands, "Who's ready for a road trip?"
All of them smiled except for Eric. He grunted and got up and left the room. I rolled my eyes knowing that he wasn't impressed that I didn't ask him to ride with me. It was close to 1 o'clock and everyone was getting ready to leave now. I sped around grabbing the last of my things and locked up the house. As I walked towards the garage, I took one last look at my house. I might not ever see it again or it will be like I never left. As I made it to the garage Bianca and Sookie were talking about something and the boys were making plans on what to do in Salt Lake City. I got to my truck and yelled that it was time to go. But before I could even open up the drivers side, Dean appeared and tried to snatch the keys out of my hands. I gave him a look and he insisted that he should drive. I smiled and slowly handed him the keys. I wasn't really looking forward to the long drive anyways. After climbing into the passenger seat and getting comfy. I plugged my phone in and played some Ozzy. I could see a little smile from Dean and we were on our way.
About 3 hours later we got close to the border crossing. Dean slowly turned down the music and cleared his throat.
"Sooo… How are we exactly passing through.. Sam and I don't have passports and aren't exactly on the law's good side." He said. I could hear the nervousness in his voice.
"Nor do I. I never have to cross at the legal crossing. Or I use my powers to charm the guards to let me through." I giggled, "But I do know some vamps that work at the crossing for this purpose. I was able to get in contact with one yesterday and she will be working. So we are going to use her window and she will just let us go through."
Deann kind of relaxed but he maintained this silence that we had going. I texted Bianca to ask if Sam knew if Dean had said anything. He said that Dean didn't really talk too much this morning either so he doesn't really know what's going on. So I kept staring out the window, my mind buzzing. I slowly looked back at him and asked if he was happy to be going home.
"It's not really a home.. It's more of a bunker. But I am really excited to see my baby." He said with a smile. Continuing to start out the window.
But before I could ask who his baby was, we were next up at the booth. As we rolled up to the window, Alexandra was smiling and waving at us. Alexandra was a cute little blond with big hazel eyes and a big smile. All I do really know about her is that she didn't have a good start to being a vampyer.
"Heey! How are y'all?" She said with a southern drawl.
"I'm not too shabby. Now excited for the long drive. How about you?" I asked her while handing over some fake passports.
"Tired. But making it through." Her voice got a lot softer, "So what are y'all doing coming through the crossing? You don't come through often."
"You know.. Counts, and control. Gotta do some regulating." I said with a laugh. As I was leaning over Dean, I could feel his breath on my back. "Gotta go though.." I smiled and waved goodbye.
I slowly leaned back into my seat and stared out the window. The music got turned back up and I got lost in my thoughts again. As the landscape went back to fields and rolling mountains. I started to think about the message that I got. If he has been missing then who gave me my message? Who was the one that called me to my oasis that my father created? Then my mind went to the note that was left on my desk. Who wrote it? Where did it come from? A cold shiver went down my spine. I didn't have a good feeling about this.
My mind started to get out of control. It was trying to reason with itself. But my body was telling me something completely different. That's when Dean's voice came and pulled me from my thoughts. As I looked over, a tear escaped my eyes. I didn't even know I was crying.
"What's up?" He asked in a low voice.
"Nothing. I was just… It's nothing." I tried to play it off. But I was failing.
"That's not what the tear is saying." He smirked.
"It's hard to explain. I'll tell you when I have better words." I gave him a pitiful small smile.
"Kay." He said with a softer voice. He grabbed my hand and held it tightly as we drove to Salt Lake.
