Chapter 12: A New Person with Supernatural Power (2):

Hiroshi's POV:

I was going to give up. I then found a letter written my Mr. Yamamura.

"By the time you've read this, I have been killed by my niece's curse. It's time you know the truth. Her mother didn't want to kill her, but Sadako's power was out of control. It was either that or bare with the torture done to her mind. Sadako's mother tried to save them both, but Sadako's power drove her mad. So, her mother was left with no choice. She killed her and when that happened, her mother was so sad, she killed herself. But since that day, Sadako has vowed to make everyone pay! I ask you to forget about this whole thing! This is my last request!"

...

I was then walking, unsure of what to do now. I then saw Det. Harashima. "Why did you come to this small island," asks Det. Harashima.

"I would ask you the same thing," I said, "hasn't investigation of the case ended?"

"Yes, in fact, I am no longer a police officer," says Det. Harashima, "and it's all thanks to you. Personal reasons brought me here. After getting off the boat, I climbed up here. I didn't expect to see you."

"Is that so," I asked, "has Ryūji Takayama come here too?"

"Cut the act," says Harashima, "you've met him, haven't you?"

Mayako's POV:

I was still looking for Ryūji. I know he has to know something about taking down Sadako! I tried to make a call, but...

"The phone is not turned on or beyond the reception range! You may leave a message."

I hung up. I then saw him. I walked over to him. "What do you want," asks Ryūji.

"You know very well," I said, "how do we destroy Sadako? She has to have a weakness!"

"Sadako cannot be destroyed," says Ryūji, "you can't kill the dead!"

"What is your connection to her," I asked, "is she a relative of yours?"

"I have nothing to say," says Ryūji.

"Then you do have a connection," I said.

"There are some things in this world you could not possibly understand," says Ryūji, "if you really think I'm related to her, then you must assume I have the same power. Would you like to try me?"

"Back off," I said. I then almost fell, but he saved me.

"It's not safe to say here," says Ryūji, "leave."

Hiroshi's POV:

A cab took me to where Mayako is. She looked depressed. I walked over to her. "What's wrong," I asked, "you saw Ryūji Takayama? Why so quiet?"

"I saw him," says Mayako.

"I see," I said, "where is he?"

"He just left on the ferry," says Mayako.

"What did he say to you," I asked.

"He said there is no way to destroy Sadako," says Mayako, "you can't kill a ghost!"

Ryūji's POV:

I was riding the ferry. I looked back at the island.

Dr. Domyoji's POV:

Dr. Mitsuo Andō came over. "What's the matter," I asked.

"Was there an accident in your lab," asks Dr. Andō.

"We can settle it," I said.

"I hear it's a big problem," says Dr. Andō, "I think you're very capable. This is my personal advice to you. Prof. Inawashiro will not win. The votes for him have been suppressed."

"First of all, he's being treated," I said, "and second, why tell me?"

"I'd like you to join us," says Dr. Andō.

"You mean..."

"I do hope you'll be able to save Prof. Inawashiro, but you don't have a future with him. I believe you may have what it takes in the Forensics business. Well? I don't think you'll object."

"Have you finished," I asked.

"What?"

"Excuse me," I said. I then got up and walked away.

Hiroshi's POV:

Mayako was looking at the letter. "He must've watched the video so he would die," says Mayako, "I guess that's one way to go. What should we do from now on?"

"I don't understand how Poseidon expected me to stop her," I said, "but I do hope she doesn't know either."

"He says you do know," says Mayako, "what is it you're not telling me?"

I can't tell her I'm in love with the thing we must destroy. "I don't know," I said.

"There has to be someone with answers," I said, "and we will find it! I think we have to go back to Tokyo!"

...

I called Dr. Domyoji. "Something urgent cropped up yesterday," I said.

"Have you found the person who put the curse," asks Dr. Domyoji.

"What," I asked.

"Ryūji Takayama came here yesterday," says Dr. Domyoji.

"What did he want," I asked.

"He said you'd die soon," says Dr. Domyoji. I said nothing. "Hello... why won't you speak?"

"Things that I don't understand have happened," I said.

"You believe in the curse," asks Dr. Domyoji.

"You have no idea," I said.

"Why did you keep it from me," asks Dr. Domyoji, "tell me everything that took place."

"I can't do that," I said, "I don't want to get you involved."

"Ryūji Takayama said I won't be able to save you," says Dr. Domyoji, "science will fail, he said. I don't want to believe him."

"I'll tell you," I said, "but you must make me a promise."

"What is it," asks Dr. Domyoji.

"I've decided to investigate on a girl named Sadako Yamamura," I said, "I want you to learn everything you can about her!"

"Is she the one behind this so-called curse," asks Dr. Domyoji.

"She has this videotape and anyone who watches it will die in 13 days," I said.

Dr. Domyoji laughs, but then realizes I was being serious.

...

"What are you doing," asks Mayako.

"Sending material, I collected to a friend who studies viruses," I said, "I told her about the videotape. If anything should happen, at least I've told my story."

"So that's why," asks Mayako.

"What," I asked.

"Writing to the one you're most worried about," says Mayako, "explain to her at the same time why you're with your ex."

"Silly girl," I said, "she has to be at least 25! Even if I did have feelings for her, she'd just say no to save her reputation." I then noticed she seemed a little sad. "What's wrong?"

"I'm so useless," says Mayako, "we've come this far and finally, we see a little hope. But I can't help crying. When you said Sadako possessed me, I started to worry... can we ever defeat her?"

"I'm sure we'll get out of this somehow," I said.

"Attention, all passengers, the ferry is now ready!"

"Let's go before we miss it," says Mayako.

Mayako's POV:

We returned to Tokyo. "Mayako," says Kunihiko Yasuoka, "glad you're back. Are you free tonight?"

"I'll call you if I'm free," I said, "bye!"

Hiroshi's POV:

I called home to let them know I might be a little late.

"I can do this alone," says Mayako, "your family hasn't seen you in a while. Go and see them again."

"No, I have to be there," I said, "I got you involved, so I can't let you go alone."

Dr. Domyoji's POV:

I was in my lab, but someone broke in. "Who's there," I asked.

The mysterious woman then left. I took a look and saw they were researching on Ryūji Takayama! I then took another look, and a shiver went down my spine... they hacked the computer, and I saw the symbol for Hydra! I then learned something else, Hydra stole the cells! Could all this talk about curses be some sort of Hydra conspiracy? But that wouldn't make sense! What is really going on?

Ryūji's POV:

I entered and saw Mai was missing. I ran off, looking for her!

Hiroshi's POV:

We were on our way to see Dr. Domyoji, but then I had a call. "Hello," I asked.

"Don't come here," says Dr. Domyoji, "you may put yourselves in danger! I think Hydra has infiltrated this hospital!" She then hangs up.

"What is it," asks Mayako.

"I-I don't know," I said, "Dr. Domyoji was talking crazy, but she may be of no help. I think the only option we have... is to confront Sadako herself!"

To Be Continued

In the next chapter, Hiroshi and Mayako continue to try to learn more about Sadako.
