"Stop it!!! Leave Nezuko alone!!!" Tanjiro yelled, struggling in the serpent hashira's grasp as the wind hashira stabbed his katana through the wooden box containing Tanjiro's demonic younger sister.
Everyone's went wide when a small form knocked Sanemi away from Nezuko. "Shinazugawa-sama, you're being quite rude… You haven't even given all of us, or Oyakata-sama, a chance to speak on the matter…" A young girl with long, light purple and blonde hair spoke in a soft, soothing voice. Her piercing, purple and blue heterochromatic eyes held unreadable emotions. A pair of soft cat ears sat atop her head, as well the boy who moved to stand next to her.
"My sister is right, Shinazugawa-sama. At least wait before making such a harsh gesture towards the Kamados." The boy spoke in a similar tone as his sister as the twins gazed down at the dumbfounded wind hashira.
Soon after, each hashira bowed down in respect towards the young children who came out to announce the arrival of their father, Oyakata-sama.
As Tanjiro rested in the butterfly mansion, he couldn't help but think about the twin hashiras who had so boldly protected Nezuko. 'I'll have to thank them if I see them again..' He thought as he gazed up at the ceiling with a small, content smile grazing his lips.
His attention was soon turned towards the door of his room when a soft knock sounded from the other side. He smiled as he carefully moved to sit himself up. "Come in!"
The door slid open to reveal the girl who he felt he owed the most gratitude for. "H-how are you feeling..?" Her soft voice slightly broke which immediately caught Tanjiro's attention. He sniffed the air to check for any signs of sadness or discomfort from the girl.
The air held the scent of mostly anxiety and fear. 'Hmm.. I wonder why she's so scared?' He thought to himself before realizing he hadn't answered her yet. "Oh-! I'm alright! Thank you so much for protecting Nezuko!" The neko raised her hands and slightly waved them, her mask concealed the nervous smile on her lips. "I-it was nothing, really..! I-I'm Mikitama Suzuki by the way…" He looked at her with a soft smile as she moved to sit in the chair by his bed, finding her personality to be very endearing and adorable.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mikitama-sama! I'm Tanjiro Kamado!" Her anxious demeanor seemed to relax slightly due to Tanjiro's sunny personality but then he became concerned when he detected pain in her practically unreadable eyes. "Hey, uhm.. What's wrong?" He asked with pure concern in his kind eyes.
The small girl's shoulders tensed as her eyes went to the floor. She slowly shook her head as she started to absently play with her claws. "I-it's nothing, don't worry about it, Tanjiro-san…" She murmured softly and Tanjiro's worried frown deepened. "Don't lie, Mikitama-sama. Did something happen after the meeting?"
Tanjiro's concern for Mikitama only increased when a hesitant nod came from her. He moved so he could better see her face. "You can tell me… I promise." He knew she probably wouldn't want to put her complete trust in him since they just officially met only a few minutes prior, but he felt he needed to know if she was unsafe or anything like that.
A soft sigh came from the masked neko's lips as her ears slightly went down. Tanjiro's eyes stayed trained on Mikitama as he prepared to listen to whatever she had to say. "U-uhm… After everyone else had left already, including my brothers, Shinazugawa-sama… wasn't happy… He uhm… hurt me pretty badly…" Anger boiled up within Tanjiro, all he could think about was how someone could be so cruel that they'd attack a young girl like Mikitama.
Tanjiro took a moment to register what she'd said next. "I'm used to it though so.. It's not a big deal…" His eyes widened when he realized what she'd said. "Wait.. You're used to it??" He frowns more when her eyes widen and she quickly shakes her head.
'She's clearly been through quite a bit… I don't want to push her to tell me anything.' A sympathetic expression took over his face and he gently pat her head. "It's okay, I'll take care of Shinazugawa-sama so you won't have to worry about him anymore." His eyes held a glint of determination to protect his new friend.
Mikitama's eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope. "Y-you will..? Thank you, Tanjiro-san.. I-I really appreciate it…" Tanjiro flashed her a smile that firmly cemented his confidence that Mikitama would always be safe with him.
'No one will ever hurt her again. Not if I have anything to say about it.'
