A week had passed since the big World Tour when Branch found his sister curled up in her bed, crying. He sighed and walked over to sit by her. "Finally hit you, huh?" Willow responded by curling up tighter in her bed, her entire body underneath her blanket. "Yeah, I figured it would eventually. You lasted longer than I thought."
Branch touched the lump hiding under his sister's blanket and rubbed it in a comforting manner. "It's alright, sis. I'm here."
(Branch)
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's alright
The crying stopped as Willow peaked her head out of her blanket, her tear-stained eyes looked curiously as Branch continued his song.
(Branch)
Little darlin', it's been a long, cold, lonely winter
Little darlin', it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's alright
Branch grinned when he saw his sister looking at him. "There you are." He watched her sit up and pull her knees to her chest. "You wanna talk about it?"
"Poppy left me behind," She said, upset. "You and Biggie left me behind! I know you apologized, Biggie and Poppy did too, but it hurts. It hurts so much to know I wasn't even a thought when you left Lonesome Flats."
Willow wiped a few stray tears from her eyes. "Why does it hurt so much?" She asked him. "I thought I'd get over it by now, but I'm still hurting."
"We left you behind," Branch stated, a sad look on his face. "Being abandoned hurts, even when it isn't intentional." He growled frustrated. "When you hatched, I promised I would never abandon you like our brothers did. But we go on one little adventure with Poppy and I run off and leave you behind."
"You did the best you could," Willow said, crawling over to her brother. She leaned on his shoulder. "And you were so hopelessly in love with Poppy you probably wouldn't have been able to say anything anyway."
"If you're going for comfort, you're failing," Branch chuckled dryly. "That makes me feel worse."
Willow sighed, "Right. Sorry." She wrapped her arms around her brother in a hug. "We're a mess, aren't we?"
(Willow)
Little darlin', the smile's returning to their faces
Little darlin', it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's alright
Branch grinned at his sister. "No fair. I'm supposed to be the one comforting you."
"Who says we can't comfort each other?" Willow retorted smiling. "Last week was hard on both of us."
Branch sighed and hugged his sister. "Yeah." He stood up and pulled his sister out of her bed. "Let's get some breakfast."
"Can we finish the song too?" Willow asked following her brother into the kitchen.
"Sure," Branch chuckled and grabbed the pans. "You want pancakes?" Willow nodded and started grabbing ingredients.
(Branch and Willow)
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Little darlin', I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darlin', it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's alright
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun
It's alright
It's alright
The two siblings grinned as they sat at the table to eat their pancakes when the song ended. "We don't sing together enough," Willow said, taking a bite of pancake.
Brach nodded and took a bite of his pancakes. "Yeah. We should do that more often."
The two siblings ate in silence until Willow sighed. "Why can't I forgive Poppy?" She asked her brother. "I know she's sorry and I know she's giving me the space I need. I want to forgive her, but I can't."
Branch nodded. "I get it," he took another bite of pancakes. "You blame her for us being separated. You were imprisoned because she left you." He clenched his fists. "You went gray because of her. I don't think I've forgiven her for that."
Willow sighed and picked up her plate to wash it at the sink. "Yeah." She looked up at her brother. "Have you talked to her yet? I know you said you loved her, but what does that mean for you two? Are you a couple now? And if so, you should probably talk to her about how you feel about me going gray. Relationships don't last if you don't talk to each other."
"Not yet," Branch admitted. "We've all been busy rebuilding. I think she mentioned Queen Barb was coming over today to see what she can do to help."
"Barb's coming over?!" Willow jumped down, excited. "I haven't seen her all week!"
Branch raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, she will probably be here in a few hours. When did you start just calling her 'Barb?'"
Willow shrugged. "She told me to drop the 'Queen' part before we left Hard Rock City. She said since I stopped calling Trollex 'King', I should do the same for her."
Branch frowned. "Right, King Trollex." He forgot about the two royals having a crush on his little sister. "Are you going to hang out with Queen Barb today?"
"I don't know," Willow frowned nervously. "She's probably going to be busy with the rebuilding. She may not have time to hang out with me."
Branch sighed and stood up to wash his plate. "How about this? I'll go up there and talk to Poppy about us, and you go try to hang out with Queen Barb." He may as well get used to the Troll royalty liking his sister.
"Are you sure?" Willow asked. "I know you're still upset with Poppy. I don't want you to do something you're uncomfortable with."
"Yeah," Branch nodded. "I need to do this anyway." He smirked. "Maybe you'll get the courage to ask her out if you actually go and talk to her."
Willow glared at her brother. "You've been wanting to do that for a long time, haven't you?"
"Consider it payback for not only making bets about when I'd get together with Poppy but also for bugging me about it for months," Branch laughed as the two started for the door. "Now that you have two Trolls trying to get your attention, you can expect so much teasing."
"You're a jerk," Willow deadpanned before pausing. "Wait, two?"
"Yeah, Queen Barb and King Trollex." Branch raised an eyebrow at his sister's stunned face. "Couldn't you tell?"
"No!" Willow blushed. "They like me like that? Are you sure they're not just trying to be close friends?"
Branch groaned. "And these are the consequences of us living in a bunker for twenty-three years. No social awareness." He looked at his sister. "King Trollex was visibly flirting with you at the party. I thought you noticed since you were flirting right back."
"That was flirting?!" Willow started to panic. "I didn't know that!"
Branch paused, startled. He placed a hand on Willow's shoulder. "Calm down. If you didn't know you were flirting, then you weren't. It's not that big of a deal. Flirting is intentional. You have to want to flirt to do it."
Willow took a deep breath. "Alright." She furrowed her brows. "I didn't even know he was flirting." She looked at her brother concerned. "Was it obvious he was flirting with me?"
"Maybe," He shrugged. "King Quincy had to point it out for me to notice it." He frowned at his sister. "Do you like him back? Because if his flirting makes you uncomfortable, I can make him stop. I'm sure he'll back off if I told him to."
Willow shook her head. "Don't do that," She put her face in her hands. "I don't know. Maybe I do like him back. But I kind of like Barb, too. Is it bad if I like two Trolls at the same time?"
"Well I don't like it," Branch grimaced. "But that's just because I'm your big brother and you being with anyone automatically grosses me out." Willow snorted at that. "But in general? Nah. You can like them both if you want. You just need to tell them that." He shrugged. "You never know, they might be okay with it."
"Maybe," Willow nodded. "But what if they don't? I don't want to lose them as friends if it doesn't work out."
"'Relationships don't last if you don't talk to each other.' Isn't that what you said earlier?" Branch asked, amused. "Just talk to them. They seem like good Trolls. Aside from Queen Barb trying to take over the world anyway." He looked up in thought. "Are you sure you want to date her?"
"Why wouldn't I?" She asked, grinning. "She's fiery and passionate, if a little misguided sometimes. She loves her people and plays the guitar so beautifully and she has such pretty red hair.."
"Okay okay," Branch grunted, covering his ears. "Please stop talking about Queen Barb like that." He shuddered. "It's gross."
"Hey, I spent months listening to you gush about Poppy," Willow shoved her brother. "I think you can handle a few minutes."
"Nope, not listening." He stuck his fingers in his ears. "La, la, la, I can't hear you!" He started running to Pop Village with Willow running behind him.
"Branch you jerk!" Willow yelled, laughing as she chased her brother. "Get back here! I want to keep telling you how cool Barb is!"
"What's this about how cool I am?" Willow froze at the sound of Barb's voice. Barb smirked at Willow's blushing face. "Hey, Willow. What's going on?"
"Barb!" Willow smiled. "It's good to see you." She laughed sheepishly. "How much of that did you hear?" She could hear Branch laughing behind her.
"Just that you think I'm super cool," Barb chuckled and started strumming on her guitar. She tilted her head and smirked. "I see you kept your piercings."
Willow touched one of her earrings. "Yeah, I like them." Branch was less enthusiastic, but they were hers, so he left her alone about them. "They feel right."
"They look right, too," Barb nodded. "You wanna hang out? I've got to talk to Popsqueak about some rebuilding details, but after that, I'm free for the rest of the day."
"Sure," Willow grinned. "I don't have anything planned." Barb nodded and walked away from the Pop Troll, ready to talk to the Pop Queen. Willow groaned. "Was that as awkward as it felt?"
"So awkward it was painful," Branch chuckled, walking over to his sister. Willow fell to the ground and groaned, her hands on her face. "But that's okay. Awkwardness happens, and Barb seemed happy to see you. That's a good sign."
"You think so?" Willow asked, moving her hands away from her face.
Branch nodded and sat down beside her. "Yeah. So when you go hang out with Queen Barb, just relax and be yourself. That's who she wants to hang out with anyway, right?"
"Yeah, you're right," Willow sat up and looked at her brother. "Did you just give me dating advice?"
Branch shuddered at the thought. "Please don't say something like that," He begged. "I think I'm going to be sick if I think about it too much."
Willow rolled her eyes and grinned. "Shut up you big dork." She nudged her brother's shoulder before resting her head against it. "Thanks, big bro."
Branch chuckled and leaned his head against hers. "Anything for you, little sis." He held his fist out. "You and me?"
"Me and you," Willow tapped her fist against her brothers.
I thought we needed some moments between the siblings. We don't get enough of those. Sorry this chapter is much shorter, but I wasn't sure how long to make it.
