Tommy was trying so hard to make it home by Christmas. It was the first time he was going to be celebrating the holidays with Buck, and he wanted it to be the one to remember. He wanted to make it special.
When Tommy was told that there was going to be a chance he wasn't going to be in L.A for Christmas. He did what he could to get out of it, but he was the only one that had the experience, so he was assigned the position. Tommy didn't know how he was going to break the news to his boyfriend. He was going to be as devastated as he was.
Buck and Tommy talked on the phone every night. There were a lot of tears from Buck. Tommy tried to reassure him that he'll be home for Christmas, but Buck wasn't sure. He wasn't going to get excited until he knew for sure that he was home. Tommy knew that it was his mission to get home as soon as possible. He couldn't stand knowing that Buck's heart was broken.
Tommy knew had to do something, he had to come up with a plan. He wanted to spend Christmas with his boyfriend as it meant a lot to the both of them. He had thought about what he was going to say to his boss to convince him to leave early, he would lie if he had too, he risked putting his job on the line. He wanted to go home. He paced back and forth outside of his boss's office going over what he was going to say, but the more he thought about it, the more nervous and anxious he got. He just had to go in, say what he needed to say and hope for the best.
He stood in front of the door and knocked.
"It's open." The man inside said.
Tommy opened the door and stepped in.
"Do you have a minute?" Tommy asked.
"Of course." The man said as he gestured towards the empty chair in front of his desk.
Tommy walked over and sat down. "I wanted to talk about Christmas."
Captain Williams placed the pen he was holding down on his desk. "Christmas? That's just a few days away."
"I understand, but I need to get home." Tommy told him.
"Everyone wants to be home for the holidays." Williams told him. "I don't know why that's important."
Tommy didn't like where this was going. He wasn't prepared for this scenario. "There's someone in my family that needs me to be home." That was part lie, part truth. "I wasn't expecting to be gone this long." Tommy explained.
Captain Williams didn't seem to like that statement. "Do you think that I can make an expectation and let you end your assignment early just so you can go home and celebrate the holidays with your family?"
"No, sir." Tommy looked down.
"I'm going to be away from my family this year and I'm not complaining." Williams told him. "This is what happens when you're in this field, you miss everything."
Tommy began to think about if this job, this career was really worth it anymore. He was going to miss his first Christmas with Buck because of this job. "I understand that sir, but it's really important for me to get home."
"If family is more important than this job, I see no other choice, but to let you go." Williams couldn't be serious. Is this how his career was going to end?
"You can't do that, sir."
"Of course, I can." He said with a smirk.
"No, I mean, you can't fire me. I quit." Tommy stood up. "My family is way more important than any job." He made his way towards the door. "I'm sure your boss is not going to be happy to hear about this. Letting one of your best men quit all because you wanted allow him spend the holidays with his family." Tommy opened the door and stepped out. He took a deep breath and sighed. This was something he had to do. It didn't go the way he planned, but now he was able to get home to Buck.
Later That Night.
Tommy had been travelling all day. Once he left Williams's office, he went straight to the dorms where he was staying, packed up bags and got the airport to get to on the first flight to L.A.
As soon as the plane landed, he was anxious to get disembark and get home. Once the plane doors were open, he stood up from his seat, grabbed his belongings and tried his best to get off the plane.
When he was making his way down the jet bridge, he turned his phone on and saw that he missed some calls and text messages from Buck. He didn't tell him that he was coming home. He wanted it to be a surprise.
Sorry, I missed your calls and messages. It could really busy at work. I'll talk to you in the morning. Love you.
He hated that he had to lie, but else was he supposed to do.
Tommy made his way through the airport and towards baggage claim. He grabbed his suitcases and made his way towards Uber pickup. It was just before midnight when he landed. He knew that Buck would be sleeping.
The uber made its way towards Buck's loft. Tommy was getting excited. He was getting so close to seeing his boyfriend. He couldn't stop smiling.
The driver pulled in front the building. Tommy got out, grabbed his bags from the trunk and made his way inside. Buck had given him a key just before he left as a way to let him know that he had a place to come home to.
Making his way up towards the apartment via the elevator, Tommy started to get butterflies. He wanted this to work out. He walked down the hallways and stopped in front of Buck's door. He took a deep breath and unlocked the door. He slowly opened the door and stepped in. The apartment was dark, but he could hear Buck upstairs snoring softly.
Tommy placed his bags down and closed the doors behind him. He took off his shoes and his jacket and slowly and quietly made his way upstairs. When he got to the bed, he made his way towards Buck's side and bend down. He took his hand and brushed it through Buck's curls. It took a minute, but Buck opened his eyes and saw that Tommy was right in front of him.
"Oh my god, Tommy!" Buck said as he shot out of bed. "What are you doing here?"
Tommy laughed. "I came home to you."
"How?"
"By the power of flight." Tommy joked.
"You know what I mean." Buck said.
"My captain wasn't going to let me leave and come home for Christmas. He threatened to fire me, but I decided to I gave him a big F.U and quit." Tommy told him with a smile.
"Your job meant a lot to you." Buck said.
"Yeah it did, but you mean more to me. I couldn't stand not being with you for Christmas. Risking my job was nothing. You are my world." Tommy told him.
All Buck could do was give him a kiss, the first one they've had since he left.
"Come to bed and get some sleep. We're talk more in the morning." Buck suggested.
Tommy couldn't agree more. It had been a long day, and he needed sleep. He stripped down and got into bed beside Buck. He didn't want to be anywhere else. This was the place where he wanted to be. He didn't care about what he was going to do for work, he'll figure that out later, but for right now, he was home with Buck, ready to celebrate the best Christmas he's ever going to have.
"I love you, Tommy."
"I love you more, Buck."
THE END
