Chapter Two

-"He texted Kono and said his flight landed at 1300. He sees all the text from Lynn. She texts him nonstop through the day and night. She thought she was proving she cared about him, but to him, it was like her wanting to keep track of him all the time. She was jealous, clingy, and too obsessive. He never introduced her to the rest of the team or had her meet Mary, Joanie, or even Aunt Deb when she was alive. She wanted to go with him to his Father's grave, but he told her he needed to do it alone.

-" Catherine is the only person he took there because she always knew how to calm him without saying a word. He landed and saw Kono.

-"Hey boss.

-" You know I am not your boss anymore.

-"You always be my boss and they hugged. They get in the car.

-" So you want to tell me why I need to cover for you?

-"He smiled sheepishly; Adam & I had a talk. He told me Catherine was here. I needed to talk to her because we had never had a chance to really talk since she left.

-" It's okay, boss; I am glad you are here. You two are so stubbone but belong together. I never told you that we kept in contact after she left. She never asked about your personal life, only if you were okay.

-" His heart flutters. I thought she just didn't give a damn about my feelings. Did she ever say why she joined the CIA?

-"No, all she said was it wasn't her choice. She refused to say anything more and made me promise not ever to tell you this much. She said you were happy and moved on with Lynn, and she would never upset your life again. Forgive me for saying this but Lynn is not the right person for you. I never told you, but she was calling me, and Chin was trying to get info on you and Catherine.

-" What, she never met you two.

-"I know, but Melissa gave her our contact info. We gave it to her when Danny got stuck in that building with you. In case she needs help with Danny's recovery.

-"Oh, that's how she got it.

-" She tried to get us to meet her but we always make excuses. We figured you would have to introduce us if you wanted her to meet us.

-"Kono, I was a fool; I knew from our first meeting I didn't care for her. I was hurt and tired of Lou and Danny, the pitiful look, and everyone asking if I was okay. So I pretend with her and everyone else. In time, I realized I took Catherine for granted and maybe there was a reason she joined the CIA and lied to me.

-"I tried to talk to her when we rescued my mom. She said we said everything, and I had moved on, and we both have different lives now. She hopes it works out with Lynn.

-" Boss, I saw her looking at you and you at her when you both thought no one was looking. I even saw her crying when you were talking to your mother. I pulled her aside, and she said it hurt her to see you with Lynn, but she was to blame; I just hugged her, but Lou interrupted us before I could get any more out of her.

-"Steve sighed and said I am an idiot. Kono, I need to see her.

-" Boss I don't know if she will see you. I'm not sure if Adam told you, but this lawyer is in love with her.

-"Yeah he told me, and he frowned.

-"I tell you she doesn't love him, and I think she is only with him because she believes you are happy with Lynn and will marry her. She told me Lynn told her that when you went to get her gear. I didn't believe it was true, but she did, I think.

-"I can't believe she told her that when she knew I barely saw her and made it clear I wasn't looking for anything serious. Kono, please help me meet her.

-" I tell you what, you go get checked in your room. I asked her to meet me for dinner, but you showed up instead.

-"Yeah, that should work.

"I asked her if she would come alone so we could really catch up without anyone else, like Adam and her friend Dave.

-" Dave he growled and said what a dubious name. Kono laughed.

-" Her phone ring is Danny. Hello Danny.

-" Hey Kono, did Steve make it? I have been calling him, but he is not answering.

-" Yes, Danny, he is with me now.

-" Hi Danny, I told you I'll let you know when I make it.

-" I know, but the Team is worried.

-" Kono, you sure you don't need me?

-" Yeah brah, I am sure. Thanks anyway. We are at Steve hotel now so we have got to go. Bye, Danny.

-"Man, sometimes he goes overboard with his worrisome. I know, boss, but Danny and they laughed. I let you know when she accepts and dinner time. In the meantime, you better come up with a plan to get your girl back, and she smile. Will do and thank Kono, and he gets out of the car.

-"He checks in, and once he gets in his room. He looked at his phone, he had It off. 20 missed texts and calls from Lynn and 5 from Danny. He shakes his head.

-"Steve was thinking about everything Catherine did for him and how he should have never let her go. He should have spent more time and done more things with her. Like all the stupid stuff he did with Lynn which he hated every minute.

-"His phone rang; he answered without looking because he hoped it was Kono with good news.

-" Hey baby, Lynn and he made a disgusted face. I was checking to see if we could have dinner tonight.

-"No, I am out of town helping a friend with a problem.

-" What friend?

-"Look, Lynn, we'll talk when I get back; he meant to end it. Go to go and he hung up.

-"Lynn said what the hell and wonder what friend. She called Melissa because she could find out from Danny.

-"His phone rang again; this time, it was Kono.

-"Okay boss, it's all set: dinner for two at 7:00 PM at the Cesar. I got you a private table so you could talk without a lot of interruption.

-" Thank you, thank you Kono.

-"You welcome Boss and tell Cath not to be too mad at me.

-" I will, and I owe you big time.

-" Just be good to my Sista and invite me to the wedding.

-"He was going over and over in his head all the things he would say to her. He was prepared to beg if necessary.

-"Catherine told Dave she was meeting Kono for dinner. She said she wanted some girl time alone. He said he understood. Catherine knew she didn't love him or never would; she just needed something to make her try and forget Steve. It wasn't working, and seeing him when they rescued his Mom just made it harder.

-"Steve wore her favorite jean; she always said his ass looked hot in them, and her favorite blue button that she said brought out his beautiful blue-gray eyes. He was a little nervous and hoped she didn't leave. He will get there early and wait till she sits down.

-" Catherine entered wearing a beautiful blue dress with curled hair and the anchor necklace Steve gave her. She shouldn't have worn it, but she still did. It represents the Navy, where they both met. Steve always liked her in dresses and with curled hair, although he did say she was beautiful in anything. Why in the heck was she thinking about him now? He is in Oahu with his blonde girlfriend.

-" Catherine never forgot all the nasty things she said to her when Steve went to get his gear. Sleeping in his bed, deleting her contact, taking her place, and spending lots of money on her. He hated her, and all their friends just loved her. They were getting married soon and planned on having a kid right away. It broke her heart, but she would never let Lynn see it. All she said I am happy for you and then went outside. When she broke down in the car, she couldn't let her or Steve no how broken she was. If he were happy, then she would be happy for him.

-" She was shown to her table and wondered why Kono paid so much for private dining. There were two doors to get inside, so she sat down and didn't see Steve entering.

-"He walks up to her and says, hello Lieutenant.

-"She startled. Steve, what are you doing here?
