Chapter 2
April, 1993
Boulder, Colorado. Webber Home.
Steve Webber parks his motorcycle in the driveway. "Hey, Lizzy, how are the studies going on?"
"My extra courses at CU for the past two years are significant. I should have my nursing degree before my 19th birthday. How's Med School?"
"This time next year, you can call me Dr. Webber."
"Oh, Steven, I'm proud of you."
"Back at you, kiddo."
"What about Sarah?"
"She's in her second year of college. She's taking pre-med courses. Dad and Carolyn have applied for Visas for all of us. We will be volunteering next year, and Dad has narrowed it down to three countries. Are you sure you won't miss spending time with your friends?"
"No, Terry's the only one I'd miss. I look forward to helping those in need. She told me about your advice. She's going to follow through with the transition."
"I'm proud of you, sis; you said 'she'."
"I wasn't raised to be intolerant. I wish I could see the end result before we leave. She's going to med school after college. After our year abroad, I'll celebrate with her. Can I take the bike out after dinner?"
Sure. You passed your test six months ago. When we get back, I'll help you buy your own.

Elizabeth's family throws her a party to celebrate her finishing nursing school. She gets a job at a community clinic. Steve and Audrey Hardy call to congratulate their granddaughter. Steve says, "Elizabeth, your grandmother and I are proud of you."
"Thanks, Gramps. Are you recovering from your heart attack last month? I'm sorry I couldn't make it to Port Charles."
"Yes, your grandmother has been my private nurse. You'll make it back when you can."
Audrey says, "Elizabeth, sweetheart, volunteering abroad is commendable."
"Thanks, Gram. I love you both."

The Webber Family begins orientation training and receives information about the villages they will administer to.
Sarah says, "You know, Lizzy, you can't bring your oil paints and palette to Sarajevo. You are a nurse now. It's time to give up your foolish hobby."
Jeff says, "Sarah Helene Webber, don't criticize your sister's art talent. She may not be able to bring paints to Bosina, but she can bring her sketch pad and charcoal pencils."

Robin and Stone walk by, arguing. "Stone, we can start small."
"Robin, I never needed to learn before; why start now?"
Robin whispers, "Remember how understanding your dyslexia helped you to read?"
"Point taken."
"Jason, could we use the Quartermaine Lake? I'm teaching him how to swim."
"Sure, you never have to ask. Good luck, Stone; it's not as hard as you imagine."
