Jack meets Elizabeth before school starts. Their first meeting didn't go well. Will this drive them apart or draw them together?

I did not like what the show did to Lucas Bouchard's character in seasons 10 and 11. So I decided to write a true hero's arc for him. I gave him a backstory that is what I think his past might have been like. I basically followed what the show gave us but changed it to fit my narrative of a hero's arc for our guy Lucas. This is my first attempt at fanfiction.

Jack works for the Police Department, but Elizabeth is currently looking for a new job. Jack was previously married until his wife passed away, leaving him with his infant son, Matthew. Elizabeth follows Charles back to Hamilton after he proposes to her in the schoolhouse. Charles and Jack think she has accepted Charles' proposal of marriage. Is this all a misunderstanding? Can Jack and Elizabeth find their way back to each other after her indecisiveness? This story is set in the time frame of the show. However, the storyline differs from it.
