KING GREGORY III- MATTHEW MODINE

JOCELYN DEJESUS- NAYA RIVERA

JOHN ORTON- JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER

Schreave Palace. Sacramento. Province of Angeles, Kingdom of Illèa.

If there was one thing that Crown Princess Hyacinth Schreave enjoyed doing, it was swimming. She could always be counted on to take a swim in the royal pool at least once a day as nothing could clear her mind like being in the water As she finished her fifth lap around the pool, she found her ladies maid waiting for her at the edge. Jocelyn Dejesus had been appointed as Hyacinth's personal maid a week after the heiress to the throne had turned 5. Jocelyn had no husband or children and as a result, her life revolved on the princess. To be honest, Jocelyn was more of a parent to Hyacinth then her own parents were, because the King was far too busy with matters of state to spend much time with his only daughter and her mother had died in childbirth.

"Did you see me Joce, I broke my record!" Hyacinth exclaimed as the maid smiled as she hit the stopwatch, seeing a 2 second difference.

"You were very fast Hy, but your father needs to see you in his office; so let's get you dried off." Jocelyn explained as Hyacinth got out of the pool. She dried the princess off and got her changed back into her proper clothes. As they left the pool, Hyacinth was nervous because when her father wanted to see him, it was usually because she was in trouble. When they got there, Jocelyn slowly knocked on the door to the King's main office.

"Come!" A gruff voice exclaimed as the two ladies walked inside. It was a very beautiful office adorned with fine Greco-Roman decor befitting a royal. At the far end of the room, sitting at his fine cherry wood desk was Gregory Schreave, third of his name, King of Illéa. Standing next to him was his faithful and somewhat unsettling man servant: John Orton. He had served the King for many years and had proven his loyalty, often through unscrupulous means. Hyacinth took a deep breath before approaching the desk and curtseying.

"You wished to see me, father?" She asked timidly as he looked up at the intimidating sovereign.

"I did, I have spoken with John and with the Prime Minister and we have come to a decision about your future. It has been two weeks since your eighteenth birthday and as such, we feel that it is time to take your next step as a royal." He explained as he took a puff off of his cigar.

"What do you mean father?" Hyacinth asked nervously as whe tried to avoid inhaling the 2nd hand smoke.

"You will have a selection." Orton insisted with a haughty look. "It has been arranged and forms are being sent out to all the provinces so that each may send their best candidate to seek your hand in marriage. Naturally, finding candidates who will willingly court you, may be difficult." Hyacinth was dumbfounded by the news. In the back of her head, she had always known that this day would come; but she thought that she would have had a little more time. She had never been in a relationship before and was understandably nervous.

"Does it have to happen so soon?" Hyacinth asked as her father shot her a dirty look.

"Every royal has found their spouse in a selection. Your grandmother had a selection, I had one, and you will have one as well." the King declared as he was starting to get irritated by his daughter's objections.

"But father...I was hoping..." Hyacinth started to say as the King stood up and glared at his inheritor.

"You do not contradict me!" He bellowed loudly as he slammed his fist on the desk. "When you are Queen, you can do whatever you damn well please. As long as I wear the crown, you will do as I say, understand?"

"Yes father." Hyacinth said softly as she retreated into submission.

"Good, a report from the Angeles Times will be here tomorrow to get your pre-selection interview and I expect you to behave accordingly. You are dismissed." Hyacinth curtsied once again as she made her way out of her father's office. Jocelyn was waiting outside as Hyacinth flipped her father off once the door was closed.

"It will be all right, Hy." Jocelyn said as she wrapped Hyacinth in a big bear hug.

"I wish he cluld just accept me as I am. He and John act like fiding me a husband or wife is like shoveling shit!" Hyacinth cried as she buried her face in Jocelyn's shoulder. Ever since she had come out as a transgender woman, her old man had treated her like shit on his boot.

"I know, but maybe you will meet a hot chick or guy who wants you, not just your crown?" She offered hopefully as Hyacinth nodded with a sad smile.

"I hope so Joce." Hyacinth said as Jocelyn kissed her cheek.

"How bout, I make us some hot cocoa. Would you like that, my love?" She asked as the princess nodded. The ladies maid took the princess's hand as they went off to the palace kitchen to drown her sorrows in hot chocolate.
