Misunderstanding

Levi had just finished meeting with his squad that morning. As usual, he went to the washroom to wash his hands, which had become a habit.

Meanwhile, Petra went to his office to bring him the minutes of the meeting and his usual tea. I wonder where he went, she thought, wondering. She set the teacup and the document on his desk. And then, she finally decided to use the washroom.

When she opened the door, she found him standing at the sink, carefully washing his hands.

"Captain," she greeted.

Levi didn't look up, still focusing on the task at hand. "Hm?"

"I left the minutes of the meeting on your desk," she offered a polite smile, hoping to get his attention, "And your tea."

He glanced at her, giving her a quick once-over before his eyes flicked back to the sink. "Good," he said flatly. "Now, close the door."

Petra's eyes widened, and she instinctively grabbed a towel from the counter, clutching it against her chest as if to cover herself. Her mind raced. What is he talking about?

"I'm not prepared for this," she muttered, her heart racing.

Still not fully turning to face her, Levi momentarily stopped in his handwashing ceremony, quite puzzled. "Huh?"

She blinked and then awkwardly fidgeted. "I-I'm not..." she stammered, feeling utterly flustered.

He finally focused his gaze on her and sighed, his expression softening. "Close the door when you leave."

It took her a moment to process what he meant, and her face burned with embarrassment when she finally realized it. Slowly, she put the towel back where it belonged, her cheeks still flushed as she tried to recover.

"Right, I'll close the door," she mumbled sheepishly and awkwardly pointed her finger at the door, quickly backing out of the washroom and forgetting to do her purpose why she went there. She gently shut the door behind her, her hands shaking slightly. God, I need to calm down.

As the door clicked shut, Levi finished drying his hands and allowed a faint smile to tug at the corner of his lips. Misunderstandings, he thought to himself, shaking his head. They never fail to amuse me. Especially when it's Petra.

Author's Note: I wrote this over a decade ago in an alternate-universe setting. However, I decided to change the setting to canon universe because I think it's cute.

Disclaimer: The prompt is inspired by the movie I watched over a decade ago, and the characters definitely belong to the genius Isayama Hajime.
