Mako Felix

District 2 Female

76 ADD

Mako never wanted to be a tribute, let alone a Victor. She only started attending the Institute so she'd have a place to stay after her father died in that quarry accident. She didn't even want to become a Peacekeeper, the fate of those who graduated the Institute without volunteering, but was on track to do just that before her apprenticeship at the blacksmith's shop set her on a different path.

No, Mako had no intention of entering the 76th Annual Hunger Games. A volunteer had been chosen, a backup in place. Mako, like all the children in Two, were perfectly safe.

She had no idea that the street urchin she had saved from a bunch of bullies earlier that day would be the one Reaped, much to the bullies' sick delight.

She had no clue that the selected Volunteer would get cold feet, or that the backup had died in a freak accident that morning.

All she saw was a crying twelve-year-old and all she heard were snickering girls and the deafening sound of silence when the escort asked for volunteers.

Mako had always been impulsive, always been the one to want to save the day.

Her teachers had always said her self-righteous attitude would be the death of her, but in that little girl's eyes, she was a hero.

And that was enough.

She certainly didn't feel like one when she returned three weeks and a half weeks later.

"It's always important that you do the right thing, even if no one else will."

A short chapter today, but I think I got the point across. Gosh, I can't believe we're almost done with this.
