Izuku was nervous. He had done well on the written exam for U.A., but now came the other test—the one that involved fighting and demonstrating abilities. This was the test that usually prevented kids without quirks from advancing to U.A., where no one believed a kid without a quirk could handle it. But here he was, standing ready to face it. He reminded himself of the training Yamcha had given him over the last six months, the abilities he'd developed, and the strength he'd built up.
As he walked toward the entrance, he felt his nerves swell, especially as he saw others gathered, equally determined to make it into U.A. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, grounding himself.
His mind drifted back to a night a few weeks prior when Yamcha had first shown him the Kamehameha. Yamcha had unleashed a blinding beam into the ocean, a display of power that left Izuku in complete awe. Now, Izuku could perform a version of that move himself—not anywhere near as powerful, but a true Kamehameha nonetheless. He'd never witnessed anything as awe-inspiring or intimidating in his life, and the memory alone was enough to settle his nerves.
He opened his eyes and looked at everyone gathered by the gate. There were so many. Wearing his orange gi with Yamcha's emblem on it, he sat down for a moment, closing his eyes once more to meditate and focus his mind. He needed to trust in his teacher's abilities, to believe in himself, even if his nerves told him otherwise. He centered himself, then pushed himself up, ready for what lay ahead.
Izuku suddenly felt a hand press against his shoulder and turned to see a tall teenage boy with glasses. He had short dark blue hair and carried himself with a very formal almost stiffness to how he stood. He had this kind of aura of discipline around him. He figured he was really serious as the way he carried himself.
"Oh, hello! Nice to meet you, I'm Izuku Midoriya," he greeted, managing a smile. "You ready for the exam too?"
The boy adjusted his glasses and nodded with a determined look. "Indeed, I am!" he said, his tone sharp and formal. "I am Tenya Iida, from the esteemed Iida family. I noticed that you seemed to be gathering your focus, which is most admirable. However, it's unusual to see a candidate meditating before such a high-stakes exam. Are you prepared to uphold U.A.'s rigorous standards?"
Izuku nodded his head, as he knew till recently that meant no one without a quark was even allowed. "I am going to do my best," Izuku said nervously as he chuckled a bit, "Well, I know I am a bit different; you see, I don't actually have a quark or anything. I just trained really hard for this exam, with my um rather unique teacher and his cat."
Tenya's eyes widened slightly in surprise. "No quirk?!" He glanced at Izuku's gi and the emblem on it, his surprise shifting into respect. "A bold move, then, and one I cannot help but commend. It takes considerable courage to stand here under such circumstances."
"Thanks," Izuku replied with a nod, feeling the encouragement lift his spirits. "I may not have a quirk, but I believe in my training. I just want to give it everything I have."
Tenya nodded approvingly. "Then may we both strive to meet and exceed U.A.'s high expectations. Let us endeavor to perform to the best of our abilities!" He extended his hand with a firm expression.
Grinning, Izuku shook his hand. He hadn't expected such a formal introduction but found himself appreciating Tenya's unwavering sense of purpose.
Izuku took a deep breath, reminding himself of the story Yamcha had told him about Krillin—how he'd faced his own fears and insecurities, and through training and determination, had become the strongest human on Earth. Izuku couldn't help but be inspired. If someone like Krillin could reach such heights, maybe, just maybe, he could achieve his own dreams too.
With newfound resolve, Izuku slapped his cheeks lightly to focus himself. As the gates to the testing area opened, he immediately sprang forward, surprising everyone around him. His intense training had granted him speed and agility that rivaled those with quirks. He zipped past the other examinees, leaving them momentarily stunned, including Tenya, who stared after him in shock.
'How is he moving like that without a quirk?' Tenya thought, bewildered, but then quickly composed himself. Determined not to let Izuku's head start distract him, he decided to go a different route, figuring it would give him a better chance to find robots for points without interference.
Izuku's confidence surged as he demolished the first robot. As he weaved between attacks, his instincts and training seamlessly took over. He executed a swift *Wolf Fang Fist* his fists a blur as they crashed into the robot's metal plating, denting it with each blow. His finishing double-fisted strike sent it hurtling backward into another machine, taking them both out in one powerful move.
With barely a pause, Izuku leaped into the air as another robot lunged at him, its metal arm swinging just inches away. His reflexes kicked in as he dodged effortlessly, channeling his momentum into an overhead axe kick. His foot crushed through the head unit, deactivating it in a single blow. Using the shell of the robot as a springboard, he launched himself forward, twisting mid-air to land a spinning kick that toppled a nearby machine before it could react.
Landing with a crouch, he glanced around, breathing heavily but exhilarated. The sheer intensity of his training was paying off, allowing him to push through the robots without a single moment of hesitation. The only challenge was keeping up his energy as he powered through each attack, but he pushed forward, determined to leave everything he had on the field.
As he moved forward he was able to take down robot after robot rather easily as he wasn't even sure of his own score, but he figured it was in the high fifties, before the robots went away, and an alarm went off. He could tell something was changing, but he wasn't sure. At first he just heard the sound of the threat. He knew it was serious as he could see the ground shake due to the size and power of what was coming up at him. Then it made its appearance before him. It was as massive as it sounded.
Izuku stared at the towering robot, feeling its massive shadow cast over him. The other students scattered, panic clear on their faces as they retreated from the colossal machine. But something in Izuku kept him rooted in place, determination burning in his eyes. He clapped his hands together, steadying his resolve. This was his chance to make all the training pay off, to show what he was capable of without a quirk.
With a deep breath, he tapped into his last reserve of energy and focused his mind on the move he knew he'd need to give everything for. This was his moment.
"Kamehameha!" he shouted, channeling every ounce of his focus and strength into the powerful wave of energy Yamcha had taught him. His hands glowed with a brilliant, focused light as he launched the beam straight at the monster robot, directing his ki with everything he had. The beam slammed into the machine, the force of it causing Izuku to brace against the ground as the massive robot's metal exterior started to crack under the impact.
Izuku roared, his voice carrying as he pushed everything he had into the beam, a massive jolt of ki flying through the beam at the already cracking armor as everyone around was in shock of this ability, none of them had ever seen anything like it in their lives. The teachers too that were monitoring were in shock as well as the skill that was being shown, was beyond anything logical.
Soon to the complete and utter shock of anyone in eye show, the beam hit home destroying the robot in a great explosion, as Izuku fell to his knees and then onto his back for a moment gathering his breath sweating like crazy from the sheer effort he had put into the massive ki blast, that had ripped apart the machine that was apparently worth no points at all.
As Izuku lay catching his breath, staring up at the sky, he could hear the faint gasps and murmurs from the other examinees. He felt his entire body throbbing with exhaustion, his muscles heavy from the intensity of the Kamehameha. Yet, a deep sense of pride and satisfaction filled him. For the first time, he hadn't just relied on hope—he'd taken action, shown courage, and proven his strength.
After a few breaths, he managed to push himself up to sit, watching the smoke clear from the massive explosion. He couldn't help but smile to himself, still feeling a mixture of disbelief and exhilaration. *Yamcha-sensei was right. I really could do this* he thought, recalling his mentor's confidence in him. Even if the robot hadn't counted for any points, he had shown everyone—and, most importantly, himself—what he was capable of.
As he finally stood up, he noticed a few students staring at him, wide-eyed and speechless. He gave them a small, exhausted smile before dusting himself off, his eyes gleaming with newfound determination.
Izuku rolled over and pushed himself to his feet, "Wow, that was kind of fun," Izuku said as he smiled, proud of himself, and feeling that he could really be a hero. He looked over as he saw a few other students and gave them a thumbs up.
Nearby where Izukua was, Tenya and Ochaco were among those staring at him in stunned silence. Tenya adjusted his glasses, his mind reeling as he tried to make sense of what he'd just witnessed. When Izuku had mentioned he didn't have a Quirk, Tenya had been sure he meant he was quirkless, yet here he was, standing among the remnants of a decimated zero-pointer, having released a blast that defied explanation.
Finally regaining his composure, Tenya approached Izuku, his face both stern and curious. "Midoriya," he began, voice filled with both admiration and confusion, "you told me you didn't have a Quirk, and yet…that blast was incredible. What exactly did I witness just now?"
Before Izuku could answer, a soft voice piped up. "That was amazing!" Ochaco said, stepping forward with wide, awestruck eyes. She looked at him, impressed. "I've never seen anything like that before! I thought only people with powerful Quirks could do something like that."
Izuku blushed slightly, rubbing the back of his head. "Um, thanks," he replied sheepishly, looking between the two. "I, uh, really don't have a Quirk. This…this is all training, actually. I've been practicing with a teacher who taught me how to use ki—it's like a life energy. I guess it's kind of like a Quirk, but it's something anyone can learn."
Tenya blinked, processing this, while Ochaco's face lit up with a smile. "Wow, that's even cooler!" she said, clearly impressed. "You've trained so hard to get here."
Izuku nodded, a bit shyly but feeling emboldened by their reactions. "Yeah…I really wanted to be here, to prove that I could be a hero, even without a Quirk." He glanced back at the demolished robot and couldn't help but smile to himself. "I guess I just proved it."
As Izuku was checked out by Recovery Girl and there was nothing at all found to be wrong with him. A group of judges for the exam, each a teacher at UA, looked over the shocking recording of the display of power that Izuku had performed moments before. None of them had seen anything like the strange orange clad green haired teenage boy. How he was marked as having no quark but used some powerhouse energy ability to blow away a massive robot like that was insane.
Aizawa, sat in on a table looking at the screen. He looked at the screen thoughtfully. He had seen a lot in his life, but never anything like what he had just seen. "It says the boy has no quark, but I am not sure. Anyone here recognize that boy's Quirk? Because if that isn't quark based, then it raises a whole lot of questions."
Cementoss crossed his arms thoughtfully, scratching his chin. "It didn't look like a standard energy-based Quirk either. The way he focused his power…it was more deliberate, controlled." He glanced around the room. "I'd almost say it was learned. But that kind of control takes years, not something you expect from an examinee his age."
Midnight leaned forward, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "That blast was...more than just strong. The way he gathered power into his hands was like something out of a martial arts movie." She shook her head in disbelief. "Yet there's no Quirk signature that matches anything we saw out there. It was more like raw force."
Snipe leaned back, folding his arms, his voice both impressed and curious. "I've never seen anyone, even pros, pull off a move like that without some kind of Quirk. And that kid has the nerve to take down the zero-pointer? I reckon we'd better take a closer look at his file."
Ectoplasm was still reviewing the footage in his head, fascinated by the precision and discipline in the boy's attack. "If he doesn't have a Quirk…then he's been training in some form of discipline that grants him power akin to one. But even those practices take exceptional focus. To be as young as he is and perform a blast like that...it's not typical of any student we've seen."
Then, in the corner, the principal of UA tapped the edges of his paws together in front of himself. The unmistakable and rather unique Nezu, UA's principal, was very intrigued by what he had seen as well. "This boy, Midoriya, seems to be a complete enigma." Nezu's beady eyes sparkled with curiosity and excitement. "He doesn't fit into any known category of Quirk user or non-Quirk individual we've seen. I believe we've stumbled upon something very, very interesting."
All Might, who had been standing silently, finally chimed in, his usual smile nowhere to be found. "It's not a Quirk, or at least not as we understand one." He clenched a fist thoughtfully. "Whatever he just did… it's no simple trick. That power was incredible, and he seems to have honed it through training rather than natural talent."
Aizawa nodded, still watching the screen. "Regardless of how he did it, there's no doubt he's serious about being here. I say we keep a close eye on him. He's unorthodox, but if this kid has that level of determination, he could be a major asset for UA."
Nezu nodded, a small grin forming on his face. "Then let's give him his chance. We'll monitor his growth carefully…Izuku Midoriya may just surprise us all."
