Doxy smiled at the sound of the owl in the night. There was something soothing about hearing an owl while she walked through the pitch black forest at 3.30 AM with only her flashlight to light her way.

Other people didn't understand these early morning walks of hers. Some people even called it dangerous. She always defended herself with that no creep would wait in a forest over night hoping that a woman would walk through it for him to get his hands on her. Creepy men were out in town or breaking into homes. They weren't lurking in a forest with only animals to keep them company.

"Doxy."

She got startled and shone the cone of light around while her honey brown eyes tried to look for anyone. She chuckled at herself and ran a hand through her long, straight, black hair.

"You're hearing things, Doxy," she said lowly.

She sometimes spooked herself in the darkness. It was the first time she imagined hearing her name but she could probably write that down to watching two horror movies yesterday and the fact that it was the early hours of Halloween.

"Doxy."

She stopped in her tracks and held her breath. One time could be written down to her imagination. Two times could not. She suddenly didn't feel alone anymore. It felt like eyes were watching her in the black night. Her heart stopped beating when she felt someone's breath on her left ear. Someone was right behind her.

"Doxy," he whispered.

She was not going to answer or even turn around to see who it might be. She was going to make a run for it and keep running until she was safely home behind a locked door. She started running but hardly got to take any steps. Whoever was behind her caught up to her in no time and grabbed her around the waist.

"Let me go!" She screamed. "Help! Somebody help me!"

She clung on to her flashlight as if it was the only thing that could save her while the person carried her away from the path and in between the big trees. Soon light appeared and she looked at three people covered in hooded robes holding a torch each. The person carrying her let go of her and she spun around to see a fourth person also in a hooded robe.

"What do you want?" She asked.

Her voice cracked in desperation and fear. None of them spoke to her. They just slowly moved closer to her, blocking her in between the four of them.

"Please, let me go," she begged. "Please! Just let me go. Don't hurt me."

She broke down in tears, sat down on the ground, hugged her knees, and sobbed like never before. She felt a hand on her back and shivered in fear.

"Hey, relax, babe," he said.

She looked up and saw her boyfriend Damian. He had been the one grabbing her on the path and carrying her in between the trees. He had pulled the hood down so she could recognize him. He grabbed her under her arms and pulled her up from the ground. She looked over at the three people carrying torches. They all pulled their hoods down and reveiled themselves to be his newest friends Finn, JD and Dominik. Friends she hadn't liked one bit since she met them. Friends she had warned him about but he ignored her warning.

"What's going on?" Doxy asked.
"Happy Halloween," Finn grinned.
"Even though you did ruin the prank before it got to the good part," JD said.

Doxy couldn't believe it. It was a sick Halloween prank. A prank that they didn't even get to follow through with because she broke down. She couldn't help but wonder what they originally planned on doing. Whatever it was, Damian had stopped it. She turned around and looked at her boyfriend again.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Doxy asked.
"It was just a prank, babe," Damian said.
"Pranks and jokes are only funny if everyone is laughing. I'm not fucking laughing, Damian," Doxy said angrily.
"I told you she would throw a tantrum about it," Dominik said.
"Some people don't like to have fun," Finn said.
"It wasn't fucking funny!" Doxy yelled.

Doxy could see the remorse in Damian's eyes. She already knew this had been Finn's idea but that didn't take the blame away from Damian. He had agreed to do it.

"I can't fucking believe you!" Doxy snarled. "I warned you about these guys!"
"Is he not allowed to have friends now?" Finn asked.
"He had plenty of friends before he met you," Doxy said. "For fuck sake, Damian! Just last week you wondered why several of your friends don't want to hang out with you anymore. This is why. Because of those three idiots and the things you do with them."
"I'm sorry," Damian said.
"Sorry isn't good enough," Doxy said. "We're over. I don't ever wanna see you again."

Doxy stomped past Damian and used her flashlight to get through the trees safely.

"You're leaving me over a prank?" Damian asked.
"Fuck you!" Doxy yelled.
"I think that's a yes, buddy," Finn said. "Don't worry. There's plenty of fish in the sea."

Finn placed his hand on Damian's shoulder but Damian shook it off.

"Don't touch me," Damian said.
"Don't act like I'm the bad guy here when she's the one who left you over a stupid prank," Finn said.
"Fuck!" Damian growled.

Damian ran in between the trees to catch up with Doxy. Soon he was caught in the darkness. He fumbled his way forward until he found the path. She was nowhere to see. She had made it there and made a run for it, taking the light from her flashlight and his life with her. He heard an owl in the distance and sighed heavily. Owls were her favorite animals. It felt like this owl was cementing the goodbye she had just given him.

"Wait up!" Finn yelled.

Damian turned around and saw his three friends come out through the trees with the torches in their hands. They lit up the path for him but they couldn't light up the darkness inside him. Doxy took his light and his heart with her and he knew he was never going to get it back. He was going to cut ties with these three men as soon as he made it safely out of the forest but he already knew that Doxy would never forgive him and take him back after the stunt he had just pulled.

"Happy Halloween, buddy," Finn said. "Are we good?"

They were far from good but he wasn't going to say anything. He knew Finn would make JD and Dominik run away with the torches and he would be left in the pitch black forest. He didn't know his way around it the same way Doxy did. He never cared to go there and learn all the paths and corners. Finn knew the forest a whole lot better. He needed Finn a little longer to get out. He nodded at Finn and hoped the light from the torches wasn't bright enough to show the tears pressing in his eyes.

"Happy Halloween," Damian croaked.
