EDIT: I don't know if it was me or FFN, but the content seemed to double up in some parts. Thank you THE God of War Kratos for alerting me to this, you're the GOAT.
In Saiyan culture, wrongs were righted with fists. Someone takes your drink? Punch them in the face. Someone steals your food? Punch them in the face. Someone punches you in the face? Punch them in the face. It was a very simple manner of resolving disagreements, but it worked most of the time.
Bardock wasn't entirely sure what grievance of Gohan's prompted his righteous sucker punch. It wasn't for getting buried under a mountain; even he could admit that he had it coming, his near-death experience not included. As far as he was concerned, they were square when it came to their altercation. The older Saiyan hadn't even seen Gohan since that encounter, so there shouldn't have been a reason for him to strike his grandson.
Yet, Bardock failed to contain the ugly mix of disappointment and rage that propelled his fist into Gohan's face.
Gohan, for his part, didn't even flinch as the earth-shattering fist slammed into him, kicking up a violent gust of wind in the process. It did absolutely no damage. Gohan maintained the same icy expression, not taking his eyes off of Bardock. To the side, Bardock noticed Trunks staring at the two of them, his jaw almost touching the ground.
Bardock wanted to be more angry at the ineffectiveness of his strike, but the sheer aura of his grandson killed any indignation that he might have felt.
"Nice of you to come-" Bardock's head shot downward, his teeth clacking together as his chin hit his chest.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY GOHAN," Chi-chi shouted as she ran past Bardock, and started fussing over Gohan's face before bringing her attention to his missing arm.
Bardock stepped back, rubbing his jaw as he watched Gohan grow more and more uncomfortable under his mother's attention.
Trunks shuffled up next to Bardock. "What was that about?"
"Huh? The punch?" Bardock idly flexed his hand as he took a moment to appreciate the sight of his grandson trying and failing to downplay the loss of a limb to his mother. "Your master has a punchable face."
Trunks huffed as he kicked at the grass. "You two are so weird."
Your hair is weird.
Instead, Bardock simply asked, "What do you mean?"
"Gohan was going nuts this morning, he must have flown around the planet like five times before he came back home. I thought mother messed up synthesizing his medicine again. Then when he gets back, he's all sweaty, and is like 'Trunks I have a very important mission for you.' At first I thought the androids showed up again, and he needed me to help hold them off." Bardock didn't miss the tightening of Trunks's hands into fists.
"But instead he sent you on an errand to his mom's house," Bardock said.
Trunks huffed again. "Yeah, and then when I asked him why, he got really evasive. I've never seen him like that before. Then, when I do get here, you call him out and sock him in the face. What happened between you two?"
Another wave of dull pain radiated through Bardock's chest. "Nothing that you need to worry about, we just had a disagreement."
"A disagreement that ended in you punching him on sight?"
"That's just what Saiyans do, you'll understand eventually," Bardock replied.
Trunks raised a single skeptical eyebrow. "Gohan's never done anything like that."
Bardock simply grunted in response. Chi-chi's fretting had died down, and while he couldn't see her face, the growing tension in her body told him enough about how their conversation was going. He strained his ears in an attempt to pick up on their hushed whispers, but had no luck in catching anything of worth.
Bardock leaned over to Trunks, and cupped his mouth as he whispered, "What's the deal with those two?"
"Gohan never spoke much about it," Trunks whispered back. "I asked mom, and she just said it's a mom thing."
A mom thing? What could she be mad about?
"And what do you think?" Bardock said.
"I think she's just mad that Gohan keeps getting hurt," Trunks replied. "Honestly, I think my mom would be the same way if I was in Gohan's place. She gets really weird every time I talk about helping Gohan fight the androids."
That one just didn't make sense to Bardock. His own mother was long gone, but he could still remember bits and pieces of his upbringing. They had their fair share of disputes, and even came to blows on occasion, but she never got angry at him for getting hurt. She was never concerned about him like how these Earth moms are, not like how Gine would have been.
"Earth is such a backwards planet," Bardock grumbled as stood back up to his full height. He watched the mother and son for a few more moments, then slapped his hands together in a single, powerful clap. Chi-chi and Gohan's quiet bickering immediately stopped as the pair brought their attention to Bardock.
"Alright, I can see that you two have a lot to talk about, but my food's getting cold," Bardock said as he pointed at Gohan, his tail swishing behind him. "You are going to come with me and Trunks and eat your fill. After that, you will talk to your mother, and figure your shit out. No more running away."
With his piece said, Bardock turned on his heel, and grabbed Trunks by the collar and kept walking.
"Let's go Trunks."
Too stunned by the audacity of the older Saiyan, Trunks was dragged into Chi-chi's house without a single complaint.
Hi, I'm back again! Sorry for the short chapter, I just wanted to get something out to prove that I haven't died or given up. With that said, my progress here isn't what I would call "acceptable." So, I will make you all a promise right now. I will post two more chapters with at least 1200 words before December. If I don't, then I'll uh, I don't know... But that doesn't matter because I will get those two chapters out!
Thanks again for reading! PLEASE comment your thoughts, feelings, and opinions, I appreciate everything you guys have said, even that AI shilling bot. Also, if that one guy is still here, I had Bardock calling Kakarot Goku for one simple reason... I wasn't thinking when writing that part and slipped up, my b 3. Although, since I am the author here, I'm just going to say that Bardock was being respectful of Chi-chi and was also in his feels a little when he was talking to her and called Kakarot by the wrong name.
That said, Bardock has a lot of respect for what his son has done, like killing the tyrant that almost genocided their race, so it's possible that he won't cling to his son's Saiyan name as tightly as the uber prideful prince of the Saiyans.
